Looking For Something is another collection of interesting, witty and exciting flash fiction stories written by Africa's flash fiction queen, Tolulope Popoola. This collection includes stories with twists and turns that you will not see coming! If you enjoyed "Fertile Imagination" you're going to love this one too. This collection features themes such as fatherhood, grief, relationships, betrayal, domestic abuse, friendship and more! Each story is short and straight to the point. Perfect if you enjoy reading short stories.
Tolulope Popoola was born in Lagos, Nigeria and has lived most of her adult life in the UK. She started her career as an Accountant, but discovered blogging in 2006, which rekindled her love for writing and telling stories. She took a few writing classes and then co-wrote an online fiction series which was well received.
In 2012 Tolulope quit her Accounting career to focus on writing and publishing. She has published a novel and eight collections of flash fiction stories, earning her the nickname of Africa’s Flash Fiction queen. She is also a writing coach and consultant for aspiring authors.
When she is not writing, teaching or coaching, she can be found reading, eating and listening to Afrobeats.
I really enjoyed this collection of slice of life flash fiction (short stories) most of which are probably set in Africa from what I can tell, since the author is Nigerian. The majority of the characters are Africans who are educated professionals. These stories are about their personal lives and from their personal perspectives all with a surprise ending. Things are not what they seem and the unexpected happens. The author's words flow easily and enjoyably which also make these stories treats.
Topulope Popoola is a Nigerian independent author whom I learned about through another independent author, Joanna Penn's, weekly YouTube program. Since I also write and is finishing up editing my first book as an independent author, I was inspired by the interview and decided I wanted to sample Ms. Popoola's writing. I plan to read more of her books.
Joanna Penn's of The Creative Penn interview with Tolulope Popoola.
Despite how breezy the stories are, this book didn't fail to deliver sharp thrills and twists. Now I know why the author is called the queen of flash fiction.
