Vengeful Bonds #1

Vengeful Bonds: Season One

Rate this book
In a world rigidly defined by secondary genders, a political storm brews, challenging the traditional alpha-dominated order with progressive ideals. Amidst this upheaval, eight strangers unite against Cerberus, a corrupt power broker. Their mission, born from loss, forges an unexpected bond, transcending societal norms.

This diverse group includes Fen, a sharp-witted omega hacker, Loch, the protective alpha leader, Binnie, a charismatic alpha political consultant, Saint, the former demolitions specialist who can no longer function in polite society, and Ollie, the analytical beta. Forced together by circumstance, they join Binnie in his secure residence for safety, bringing along Fen's Seth, an omega interpreter, San, an alpha artist, and Deacon, an unpresented makeup artist with a flair for the dramatic.

As they unravel Cerberus's sinister plots, they discover not just the hope of justice but also an unconventional love. Forming a formidable pack of four mated pairs, they challenge the very foundations of their world, redefining family and pack bonds in a society where loyalty and love are often confined by archaic norms.

Vengeful Bonds is more than just an Omegaverse tale of revenge; it's a journey of healing, self-discovery, and the forging of a polyamorous pack that challenges the very foundations of their world. Join them in the complete compilation of season one of this serialized adventure, where each chapter unveils layers of intrigue, romance, and a bond that defies all odds.

I honestly don't know what to make of this...

This is my first omegaverse full length book, and I really thought I'd be a big fan but there was just too much that bugged me.

The start of the book was really good - loved meeting the characters and seeing the vengeance plot taking shape - but after around 30% it was like a never ending sexfest with absolutely minimal plot. Like, the vengeance plot is mentioned in passing a few times, but it's just sex scene after sex scene until the last 2% of the book.

Are all omegaverse books just smut and no plot? If so I'm going to have to quit while I'm ahead because I NEED actual plot in my romance stories, otherwise just call it erotica and I can choose whether I want to read something that's predominantly sexual in content!

All I know about these characters is how they act when they're having sex! If I played a drinking game where I had to drink every time I read 'fuck me alpha, knot me, breed me, fill me with your pups and bite me' in this book, I'd be dead by the halfway point!!!!

I also got fed up with being edged about the mating bites. Like it was talked about for over 70% of the book before one of the couples finally got bitey. I'd make a shitty omega because if my alpha was constantly all talk about how they were going to mate bite me but never did it, I'd be off to find someone who has teeth and got on with the job 😂😂😂

I'm undecided whether I'll continue reading this series. I really liked the initial plot, but I can't be doing with another book where nothing happens except a shit ton of super repetitive sex. It was especially boring when the book follows four couples and they all say the exact same things and do the exact same things, so it's like reading the same sex scene over and over but just changing the names. Someone maybe needs to tell them there's more than two positions and one sentence of dirty talk - and that's coming from someone who's Ace AF 😂

5 ⭐️
spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
format: ebook

no thoughts, just vibes. maybe half a pinch of plot? barely.

i needed mindless smut and that’s exactly what this was. i love all of the characters. i actually was going in expecting san and binnie to be my favs, but ollie and deke completely stole my heart. what is it about betas? they’re just elite.

onley james + omegaverse is the best mashup and i cannot wait to keep exploring this series. the story actually started taking off towards the end and i am suuuper intrigued by the world-building.

i hope liam narrates this so i can add to my list of onley james audio rereads.

Read for a group challenge week 3. I felt sorry for Josh. I can see how enjoyable this would be spread out as a serial, but all together it was a sex fest with a cluster of characters. I couldn't tell if they were all pairing up or gearing up for a why choose. The whole Enigma reveal made sense but before that it was sex and sex and sex. Fave pairing was San and Binnie. Poor Ollie. Josh cropped up every now and then, but no revenge just yet, just couples forming and an unofficial pack. The whole split personality alpha thing was interesting.

If you told me two years ago that I’d be looking forward to reading an omegaverse story I’d say you’re lying. But here we are...

Vengeful Bonds is the first book under Onley James’s new pen name Nolah Harker. If you’re here for the 'tale of revenge' you might wanna skip this book bc I’m not lying when I say that 95% of this is basically an omegaverse fuck fest. The story follows not one, not two BUT eight POVs and surprisingly I was able to keep up. The pack and their destined fated mates are pretty obvious from the moments when certain characters meet but it works. It does end on a cliffhanger so if you're looking for a HEA maybe wait until the other book/s have been released.

I can totally see how this book wouldn’t be for everyone, but for me it was near perfect for what I wanted it to be. Yes, it is 90% smut, like.. there was maybe 3 conversations in the whole book that revolved around the actual “plot” (the plot that wasn’t Omegaverse related I mean), and honestly I am more than happy with that. I love Omegaverse stories, and this had all my favorite moments that one expects from an Omegaverse book (nesting, heats, ruts, bites, knots, scenting, Omega praise). I’m so glad that I subscribe to her Patreon so I can keep reading after that slight cliffhanger.
There wasn’t a moment of this book I didn’t full on love, I fell asleep reading it, had dreams about it and then woke up excited to keep reading. I fell in love with each and every character, and I am excited to continue to get to know them. And I am excited to see where they go with the whole Cerberus plot ends up!

2025 Re-read:
I enjoyed rereading this, but unfortunately I don’t think my 5 star rating holds. 😕
It’s still somewhere in the 4 star range, but I wasn’t as into all the spice this second time around. 😅 and there is ALOT of it. Lol. I still love all the characters though and I am excited to see where the story is going, even though how this one ends it feels like they have lost the revenge plot a little. 😅 Hopefully it all comes full circle, that would be cool!

Original review:
I’m almost embarrassed by how much I loved this book. And this will definitely not be a book for everyone, but I am a sucker for Alpha/Beta/Omega stories. And I DEVOURED this book.
The found family in this was wonderful and I loved how all 8 of the main characters were so different and unique.
I desperately need the next season! 😭

This is one of the coolest and most interesting omegaverse books I have read in a while. It’s certainly unique. Onley James as Nolan Harker has done as only she can do. Creating an entire world and cast of characters that become beloved family. They’re new family, but family nevertheless.

I was fully invested in this story from the time Fen meets Seth. Seth is this absolute golden retriever of an omega. He’s unbelievably sweet and just makes my heart happy. I love how he basically adopts Fen on the spot and tells him that he is going to come live with him and his bestie San. San is a laid back alpha, but also very protective of his Seth for sure and Fen by extension.

Things all start to change when we add in Loch (alpha), Binnie (alpha), Ollie (beta), and Deke (unpresented).

Fen is on a mission to take down the PMC company Cerberus and get justice/revenge for the death of his brother. This motley crew of characters are just starting to put together a plan to get the ball rolling, when biologically throws in a nice little monkey wrench.

Can I just say that the spice is spicy and had my kindle combusting? Cause yeah, that happened. More than once. That dirty talk was on point!

Let’s not forget that cliffy revelation… I mean, WTF? So good but now I’m dying to start the next one.

This book isn’t just a story. It’s an experience. One that you should definitely see for yourself if you love Onley James.

Vengeful Bonds: Season One is Nolah Harker a pen name for Onley James first book in the omegaverse and all I can say is what an amazing way to start. We have a wonderful mix of characters in the book. We have Fen and Seth who are omegas, Loch, Binnie, San, and Saint, who are alphas, Ollie who is a beta and Deke who at 21 is still unpresented. These 8 make an unconventional family with four couples. So much goes on in the story as they all work together to help Fen bring down Cerberus a corrupt company who killed his brother. I love the world building in the story. I had a hard time putting this book down once I started it. I can't wait for the next season. If you can't wait you can read this as it's done as a Kindle Vella. I would definitely recommend this book if you like omegaverse stories as I do.

Boy did a lot happen is this book!!! I’m still dipping in to the Omegaverse but I’m starting to understand more of what I enjoy and although I like the reads where everything unfolds seamlessly I tend to lean more towards the stories where there are twist, turns, hiccups in plans and in depth plot and this had it all! I loved Binnie’s drive when it came to bettering the lives of omegas, Fen was sweet and feisty, Seth, Deacon and San were adorable and caring although they too had a feisty side and Saint and Ollie were great support for Loch! I enjoyed seeing who paired off and the poly dynamics of the group as a whole. Deacon has me intrigued! I’m interested to see how the political side of their world will factor as well as how their mission will go. This was fun and spicy and I can’t wait to dive into Season Two! 🖤💜🖤

I love all Onley James books so I wanted to try her alternate nom de plume as Nolah Harker out. I'm not a fan of the mini reads via Vella so I waited for this to be all released in one novel or "season". This took me a bit at first to get into, lots of characters, instead of a couple main characters, I suddenly had to understand this alternate world as well as track 8 main characters. However, once invested, I really wanted to see where each couple went and how. I do love the polyamory representation - this is under represented in media and in books today, so I love the author bringing this to the table, just wish it didn't have to be an extreme omegaverse to be seen as palatable.

Long story short, I ended up loving it and I can't wait to see where these characters go. The "spice" was very alternate but I do still love a good M|M uniting and this she delivered on.

Ok…that was mostly smut, but I’m still sucked in. Enough so that it might guide me to read my first kindle Vella series, since the next “season” is only available on Vella. I really want to see what happens now that the character building is in place. Plus that ending left me with questions I need answered!

Welcome to the Omegaverse…Onley James style.
All the possessiveness of an Onley book, mixed with a revenge plot, a mysterious murd3r, fated mates, and lots of steam. This story starts with Fen, a computer genius and skilled hacker who’s discovered his brother’s death was not what he thought. After cracking layers upon layers left by his brother, Fen discovers the organization his brother worked for, Cerebus, must be taken down. One of the clues Josh has left is that Fen needs the help of Josh’s team: Loch, Binnie, Saint and Ollie. What Fen didn’t bargain for was how dangerous this plot would be, and that him and his friends San, Seth, and Deke would have to be whisked away to Binnie’s secure fortress to make sure they all get through this alive.
But what happens when you put a beta, two omegas, three alphas, and one mystery man in house in a remote location? 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
This book is raw and unfiltered, sexy and sweet, with great characters and great one-liners.
Definitely one of the craziest packs you’ll ever meet!

I probably would’ve enjoyed this so much more if the smut had been dialed back AT LEAST 30% or so. I was more excited about the dark govt/PMC world takedown and it was nowhere

Did i care about the mystery? No I didn’t not
Did i stay just to because of the relationship? Yes yes i am

Did i feel guilty over the above statement? 50:50 😂😭

Oh myyy I can’t lie the mystery and all did make me intrigued with the book, but majority part that make me finish the book are the character and love in the air ✨

At this point I didn’t even care about all the mystery and alll… i was so into their relationship development and my my all that 🌶 really did it for me✨ It have been so long or i think it is actually a first (don’t quite remember) that i read a book that cover more than 1 person relationship which make it so much fun reading with all the POV 😍 I need to find more book with this kind of theme, where a book don’t center on 1 relationship only but have multiple people that build relationships with multiple POV 👏🏼the author did a very fantastic job writing this👏🏼

All the character in this book is just so damn cute with each other 😩😩😩 this book also just prove my point on why i love omegaverse/Pack story because how wholesome and sexy it is hehehehhe. The polygamous part is kinda expected yet unexpectedly happened for me, like i don’t see it coming at first but expectedly do after and also totally okay with it ✨

As i love all of them, i still want to put a list hehe. So now i will ranked my fav couples in the book :

1. Seth & Saint

This sweet and cute couple, i just love how Saint just GETS Seth 😩😩 like “you love being spoiled” “ok i will spoiled you gladly”, “what you need reassure” “i will reassure you every minute of the day, you will never doubt my love”. Damnzz i need a man like Saint who is intense yet whip and sweet to the coree 🙌🏼

2. San & Bennie

Although they are the only couple that have not truly “all out” yet i live for the angst in their relationship 🫠 I also know the moment they finally do..my my it will be explosive with the first AlphaxAlpha trope i ever read and the “kinda” reverse roles between them it willl be hotzz

3. Deke & Ollie
4. Fenny & Lorch

For them i equally like both of this couple, to me their interactions is sweet and adorable yet not as high up as the other 2 but still crave for all of theirs interactions still !!!

not for me

I love Onley James but I don’t love this. The poly aspect is just too much for me and there are far too many men involved with a very complicated story. I still love Onley but I have to pass on this one.

Why even bother with plot? This reads like a fanfiction written not just as fan service but influenced by fan reaction. Like it was patreon driven and directed cause the story falls off for what feels like scene requests. I would have enjoyed more if all ships weren't on the water in book one but couldn't leave any couple out to appease the chapter by chapter readers. Even the full pack getting into it wasn't left behind but should have been built towards throughout the next season.

Me gustó mucho el estilo serie de televisión. Se nota en la redacción que está armado así, lo que vuelve los cliffhangers mucho más verosímiles. Poly y Omegaverse for the world.

Vengeful Bonds: Season One is the complete first season of an ongoing serial novel set in the omegaverse, written by Onley James writing as Nolah Harker. It's structured as a series of interconnected episodes, weaving a larger story that will unfold over multiple seasons. Note that Season One does end on a cliffhanger. Here's what you can expect:

💜 Omegaverse setting
💜 Third person multiple points of view
💜 Forging of a polyamorous pack
💜 Intrigue, romance, and bonds that defies all odds
💜 Revenge plot
💜 Pack of four mated pairs
💜 Mpreg

Every once in awhile, I'm in the mood for omegaverse stories and I was really intrigued by this one. I'm a fan of Onley's work, so I was looking forward to her writing as Nolah Harker. Every author does omegaverse a little differently, so in this case, I really appreciated the world-building that was done. Based on the cliffhanger, we obviously still have a lot to learn about this particular omegaverse, but I think the author did a great job at explaining how this world works and the politics surrounding the secondary genders (and this is honestly a very timely commentary on our world, especially in 2025).

In the first season of Vengeful Bonds, we meet the eight men that will come to form a polyamorous pack of four mated pairs. This pack was brought together by tragedy and the desire to defeat Cerberus, a corrupt power broker. The bond between these eight men is stronger than they could ever imagine, and what started out as sheltering together against unknown players turns into a pack that could change the course of history. We have Fen (an omega hacker for the NSA) and Loch (a protective alpha leader), Binnie (a charismatic alpha political consultant) and San (an alpha artist that defies societal expectatrions), Saint (an alpha with demolitions specialist experience) and Seth (an omega interpreter for the government that has depression and anxiety), and Ollie (an analytical beta) and Deke (an unpresented aspiring actor). I thought the dynamics between each mated pair was fascinating, particular San and Binnie, as they go against societal expectations for alphas. We learn more about some of the more nitty gritty details of the secondary genders that other books often don't delve into.

As with a lot of the omegaverse I've read, the relationships move quite quickly and become serious at a pace that would be alarming in the real world. In this particular omegaverse, there was an emphasis on the hormonal aspects of the secondary genders as well as the concept of fated mates. I really enjoyed the political intrigue and revenge plot in this book, and I actually wish there'd been more emphasis on that. The spice was fantastic and primal, as it usually is in omegaverse stories. Although I knew going into the book that mpreg was a part of the story, I wasn't totally prepared for the focus on breeding. It's quite driven by the biological nature of the characters' secondary genders, so it makes sense. It just felt a little over-the-top at times, and although it's not really for me, I understand it's importance to the story at hand. If this is something you're interested in reading (oh, and you can buy it directly from Onley James's website which is awesome!) just be aware of that. At about 450 pages, it's definitely given me my fill of omegaverse and mpreg for a while, but that being said, I'll definitely be purchasing the second season so I can see what happens! As I mentioned, this does end on a cliffhanger, and not the one I was really expecting, but I found it was a soft cliffhanger and season two is already in progress so I'm not overly worried about waiting. Onley James has a talent for unique stories, and her delving into this omegaverse world really shows her breadth of talent.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

This is the first book published by Nolah Harker, which is a pen name for Onley James. I’ve been a fan of Onley since I came across her Necessary Evils Series last year. I’ve read her Necessary Evils Series and both books that have been released so far in her Jericho’s Boys Series a couple of times since then, and I love the world that Onley has created. I’ve also been a member of her Patreon since then and love the weekly chapters of her current WIPs, as well as the other benefits including an early copy of her upcoming releases. This book is completely different from anything Onley has written before.

As it’s omegaverse book hence the pen name Nolah Harker. I loved this book and thought it was a great start to the Vengeful Bonds Serial. I was hooked from the get go and couldnt put it down, as I really wanted to see what would happen next. The pack dynamic is interesting and that the death of Fenny’s older brother Josh brought them all together to take down the corrupt and power hungry Cerberus who were responsible. The characters are Fenny, Seth, San, Binnie, Loch, Deke, Saint and Ollie. I’m looking forward to reading volume two when it’s released, as well as more books from Nolah Harker/Onley James in the future. I’d recommend this book and authors to everyone.

This should be called “Dacryphilia: The Book”

The beginning of this book will trick you into thinking there’s plot, there’s no plot. It’s 90% romance and smut, with an emphasis on smut. The sex is genuinely hot and kinky and the dirty talk is good, but I did start getting bored around the 80% mark when it’s just chapters upon chapters of fucking. By that point, I was only really interested in Ollie and Deke’s storyline too just because Loch/Fen had a lot of similarities with Saint/Seth and I just wasn’t particularly compelled by San being mean to Binnie all the time. At the very end Loch/Fen did end up going a new and interesting direction that got back on board with them at least.

It’s a fun book and I do love a giant polycule, so I’m interested in where the series will go. But definitely a series I’ll only be reading when I’m in the mood for super high spice because frankly there’s not much else to it (at least in this book lol).

Also, would not recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t want to be reminded of the current political climate and 2024 election cycle. While this book is only about 10% plot, that 10% was clearly written within the 2024 political climate and, well, it’s not exactly escapism. Some people may like and want that right now and others may want to avoid for the sake of their sanity.

Not sure where my first review disappeared to but I read this twice back-to-back immediately after it came out. Then a third time as a refresher before book 2 came out.

I love all the connections between friends, then coworkers to friends, old war buddies and a politician trying to do good; everyone trying to fight the good fight while also wanting to find out what got Fen's brother killed after he deciphered that mysterious letter.

Loved the background mystery plot on top of the growing relationship dynamics between all 8 characters. High heat and a smut-a-thon in the latter half of the book, which is super yummy. Loved all the different pairings as well, and there is also hinted at sharing in the future, YES!

P.S. If you're a kpop fan, some of the nicknames of the characters will remind you of some members in Stray Kids and Ateez, if you follow those groups. Or any other group with members that have similar names. Small easter egg(?) for the kpop fans.

I was tempted to give this one a 1 or 2 stars, but I do like some of the characters, so that pushed it to 3 stars.

The huge issue I had with this one is: WHERE'S THE DANG PLOT AT?

It started well, I liked the idea of Fen being a smart bad ass Omega fighting for his brother, but then once he meets the others, the plot is gone. He moves very fast with Sen and Seth, which was okay but felt super rushed. Then, meeting the rest was so weird because the connection was instant. I have read some instant-lust, instant-love, and fated mates; however, there was no build-up here, and with so many characters, everything was all over the place.

This was 1% plot on the back and 99% sex, which I usually enjoy books with sex scenes, but this one is like OMG TOO MUCH.

I will read the second book because I remember reading some chapters in Patreon where the plot picked up a bit, but dang. SO MUCH SEX.

As always, no spoilers.

FUCK YES OMEGAVERSE. I AM HERE FOR THIS. Loving this entire plot. Loving the cast of characters. Lord knows I love when it’s a fucking MMMMMMMM 😂

Saw some people say there was no plot… baby were we reading the same book?! And too much spice?! 😂😂 the spice was fucking on point. This is a series written like seasons of a tv show, so we are gonna have some sexy bits sprinkled all around. And the first season is setting us up for the next one (much like a standard book series but I feel like she was laying tons of ground work more like tv episodes, ya know?!)

Anywhosal. 10/10 from me. Loved it. Loved the guys. Loved the whole goddamn kit and caboodle. No complaints. AND THAT CLIFF HANGER. Thank god series 2 was out already. I know I’m gonna be pissed when I finish the next book and 3 isn’t out yet 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ BUT IM STILL GOING TO CONSUME THESE BOOKS BECAUSE I AM ATTACHED TO THESE GUYS.

I really love onley books, but I can’t understand how the rating on this is so high. There’s absolutely no plot, zero, nada. And I’m ok with smut, but here we have 4 couples that are exactly the same. I understand that this is the first time the author is writing an omegaverse, so maybe I can excuse the stereotypes. The “everyone sharing everyone” sucks, mostly because I wasn’t convinced by any of the couples. They all just talked the same, had the same discussions and we skipped any and all the conversations. Everyone was talking about how Loch was so self sacrificing and he’s the leader yada yada but I wasn’t convinced because even if they SAY a lot of things everything they DO is think about sex and actually do the sex. It could be an amazing series, but since the author tried to tell the story of all 4 couples in just one book, the book was long and still didn’t had enough pages to make the couples make sense.

Loving this new world

I’ve loved all of this authors books under her Onley James name. Looks like the paranormal side of Nolah Harker is going to be just as good.

There is set up in this book for so many storylines. I enjoyed that we get viewpoints from all the MCs instead of by couple - which wouldn’t work the way this pack is being structured.

I read some reviews where people were upset thinking that Josh and taking down Cerberus had been forgotten in favour of heat but I didn’t see it that way. I see this book as an introduction to this world and the stories to come. As they said - taking down Cerberus is going to be the work of years. Not one book.

All of the Cerberus stuff and the pack bonding would be enough for several books without the interesting twist we got at the end. Im looking forward to more!
