Hooked from the beginning
The author collaboration of Kat Mizera and Elise Faber is one of my favourites, and their
Gamebreaker
series highlights how seamless their joint writing is. DEALBREAKER, book #3, is another entertaining, heartfelt read, and I was hooked from the beginning. It is a bodyguard/movie star, forced proximity, protective MMC, he falls first, she's down on her luck, found family romance which had me laughing, swooning, and raging.
Being in hospital recovering from an injury, security business owner Hudson Dash wanders the corridors at night out of boredom. He comes across a situation which enrages him and does a little investigating, leading him to assess the situation and discovering a patient who needs his protection. It's not long before Dash finds himself reading to the patient hoping to help bring her out of her coma. Willow St. Clair is a famous movie star who has been living with an abusive fiancé and wants to leave. Before she can though she ends up in hospital in a coma, thanks to his actions, but it may end up being her saving grace. Listening to a total stranger, a gentle male voice, read nightly to her slowly wakes her, leading to huge changes in her life.
I loved Dash and Willow, their chemistry sizzled. After the death of a close friend Dash had closed off his emotions, but through his friendship with Willow he began to rediscover them and open himself up. Dash is exactly who Willow needs too, a gentle giant who made her feel safe and secure. I loved that they were able to relax around each other, the fun they shared, even their serious moments. Admittedly, Dash fell first but while he was falling so was Willow. When they finally allowed themselves to follow their desires the heat between them was scintillating. This couple were perfect for each other.
Dash is a member of a group of men who have been friends since college, they are more like brothers than friends. These men and their partners are a found family, and when Dash brings Willow into the mix everyone readily accepts her, something she lost in her previous relationship. Of course, not everything flows smoothly and there's a touch of drama and suspense added which brings some tension to the storyline. I can't wait for Atlas's story, which is up next, this broody businessman is definitely going to be brought to his knees.
Another unmissable read from these talented authors.
