Foot In The Grave

Rate this book
In a cold, undead, post apocalyptic New York, former rockstar Thomas Wylde grapples with finding purpose. He’s lost everything. Hunger and despair are as prevalent amongst his own people as they are in the zombified ‘hunches’ clawing their way through the gates. But Thomas soon finds out the hunches aren’t the only things looking for blood…

Across the Jersey border, an ex-FBI investigator takes desperate measures to locate a missing child. When their paths cross, all hell breaks loose.

Zachary Forbes is a graduate from the University of Florida, where he studied History, Business, and Literary Fiction. Now he lives in southwest Florida. Some of his non-literary hobbies include Judo, shooting, and powerlifting.

He lets the 'lore of the real world' play a part in his works. Authors he takes inspiration from include Lee Child, Timothy Zahn, Michael Crichton, and Robert Kirkman.

I did enjoy this book! A mix of zombie adventure & thriller, which is a nice change! Really good pace & good levels of excitement, a good second part to this new series. A good fun read, well worth the time if you like this genre!

Lots of characters, both old and new, that I couldn't help getting attached to. I thought the 'villains' of this one felt a lot more real than in the first book. I also found myself more invested in Thomas and Rachael's relationship, which wasn't a huge focal point prior to this

Strongly recommend, even if you haven't read the last one

After reading the first book in this series,I can say that the characters and plot are still fun. This one struck me as a bit less science fiction than the first one, but that's not a mark against it. Just something I tend to prefer in my post-apocalypse stories. Still an exceedingly fun book.

Just like Book 1, this book is broken up into Episodes and within each Episode are chapters. Episode 1 contains chapters 1-6, Episode 2 is chapters 7-14, and so on and so forth. All told there are nine Episodes and a total of 76 chapters and then an Epilogue. So again, not a short read. Plan time because there’s a lot going on.

Sooooo many things going on in this book! Now we are in a “safe” zone with three different groups controlling different sections of the zone. AND THEN - we’re introduced to another group! CANNIBALS!!!! Nuts I tell ya!

The one thing I feel that is missing from both book 1 and 2 is the presence of actual togetherness between Thomas and Rachel. All I feel is something more like unrequited love from Thomas towards Rachel but nothing really from Rachel except maybe a little flirting. This book follows that theme and then BAM! You’re hit with something -something I’m not gonna share because I don’t want any spoilers if I can help it. I know this is a zombie apocalypse book, not a romance book. BUT, if you’re going to include a romance angle/aspect, then have some romance in it!

Also, Kennedy. My favorite character by far. I better not be let down in book 3 or honesty, I’M GONNA BE PISSED.

3.5 but rounding to 4 stars

3.5 rounded up

Foot in the Grave was the entertaining bookish popcorn I needed! This fast paced, action heavy dystopian, mafia drama, hunch fueled genre blend had me turning the page and wanting more.

It felt like season two where the budget and talent pool expanded tenfold. I really enjoyed the episodic storytelling style, the insane number of hooks at the end of short choppy chapters and the character growth of Thomas as a main character.

It’s fun to see these brothers grow in their writing style together and I’m looking forward to their future projects.

I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the Continuum series. The story was very well paced and had a well defined villain and plot, each chapter making me more and more invested just as the previous installment did. I absolutely recommend this book and its precursor, especially if you enjoy zombie apocalypse and action novels.

I had enjoyed the first book Three Rivers Plague in this series. It had the zombie plot that I was expecting and enjoyed from the genre. The characters continued to feel like they belonged in this world, I thought the zombies worked overall and was invested in what was going on. I look forward to more in this world and from the authors.

Seeing these characters were awesome, the returning plus some new, intriguing ones. I really enjoyed how the authors tied up some of the loose ends left at the end of the first book, leaving little unanswered questions to wonder about. This story had me guessing what was going to happen with every chapter and I definitely wasn’t expecting the ending (in a good way). Highly recommend for someone interested in a more mysterious story than scifi, like the first

It's nice to see these characters back again. I had loads of fun with them in the first book, and everyone gets their time in the spotlight again. Even some new characters are added to the mix, all with their own complexities. If there's one thing I can say about Zachary and Joshua's writing, they know how to make you beg for a character to survive!
