Born in Poland in 1932, Julian Padowicz escaped from Soviet occupied southern Poland in dramatic fashion with his mother when he was 8. Abandoned by their guide, trekking 11 hours through snow filled woods, past armed border guards, their escape was a celebrated event at the time and the subject of the best-selling Flight to Freedom, published in New York in 1941.

Julian grew up a U.S. citizen, served in the Air Force, and then spent 30 years writing and producing television documentaries and educational and industrial films. Though he won awards for his filmmaking, and built a reputation for his ability to make the complex understandable, Padowicz found that filmmaking did not fulfill him. While other filmmakers look for ever-larger audiences, the writer in him wanted that one-to-one relationship between an author and a person who has selected that specific book and paid good money to hear what the author had to say.

In 1987 Padowicz closed down his film production company and began writing and producing audio books. Though in his first production he hired a professional narrator to do the reading, he quickly discovered that reading the material himself gave him that much more direct contact with his audience.

To date he has written and published over a dozen instructional and educational audio books on a variety of subjects, most of them based on knowledge he accumulated during his filmmaking years. His work has received high praise from reviewers in national and professional publications.

He married Donna Carter, a computer scientist, at about the same time that he began his audio book career. They wrote 60 Minutes Towards Computer Literacy together. Today they live in a 100 year-old-farmhouse in Stamford, Conn.
