Madelyn Maxlyn sent one e-mail to the most feminine-sounding name on the list of soldier contacts her book club president managed to get. SFC Taylor Russell was the recipient.
They exchanged seventy-seven e-mails in five months, and somewhere among those seventy-seven, they stopped exchanging words and began sharing pieces of themselves.
Taylor is returning home from war, and it’s time that they meet and discover if a soldier with two years left on his contract with the army, and a plus size woman who has an entire life hundreds of miles away from his home, have a chance at a future together.
Love doesn’t care about obstacles and risks, but surviving them isn’t always easy.
I was born and raised in Charleston, SC, but now live in the hottest place on earth: Orlando, FL. I have three beautiful children who keep me running non-stop. When I'm not juggling life and kids, you'll find me huddled away somewhere writing my next book or happily reading someone else's. Like most authors I've come across, I'm a coffee addict, own far too many books than I can fit on my shelves, and I go to work in my pajamas a lot.
The Premise It all began with one email to a soldier - Madelyn’s book club decided to reach out to soldiers and correspond with them. Some of her book buddies were more into a hookup but Madelyn decided to find the most feminine-sounding name on the list because she didn’t agree with the group’s motives, but wanted to say that she did email a soldier. SFC Taylor Russell responds to Madelyn and they begin a tentative relationship that deepens as time goes on.
The Good This was an intriguing concept and I actually enjoyed the emails. Reading a BBW romance where the heroine isn’t all angst-ridden about her appearance is my preference, so in that respect I enjoyed Madelyn’s relatively well adjusted attitude towards her body. Taylor and Madelyn are decent characters with some chemistry, most of which is in their correspondence with each other.
The Not So Good but there’s not enough of that buildup. The story ultimately suffers from an absolute lack of tension.
From the first e-email you see the relationship begin to develop, but it ends too quickly before they’re meeting in person and then….everything is perfect. He’s perfectly hot and accepting of her curves, she’s completely confident in herself. That’s great, but there’s no external angst or tension either, which means it’s, well it’s kinda dull. If there had been more of the e-mail exchanges at the beginning, or perhaps something that made them not declare their love at the very first sight, it just needed some tension to make the story work.
The Bottom Line It was sweet, and if that’s what you’re looking for with some love scenes you may enjoy it, but I just needed something that made their relationship seem like it was earned instead of just handed over on a silver platter.
This book isn't quite ready for publication. It has a solid premise (if a bit silly). However, even the opening is a bit odd as the heroine is very judgmental about her best friends trying to meet a solider. They are her best friends. We never see or hear anything about them
All the character development is told to us and we don't really get much couple time. The sexy time is nice but the romance is really a blip with a flash forward epilogue.
Could have been much better with more feedback and time.
Mostly because I don't really feel the chemistry in this book. The meet up is too fast, he even propose her one day after they met. What kind of relationship is that?!
One Letter is better (hey, it rhymes!) but overall I still think this book is good. Just not my favorite.
I dived into the second book in this series straight away given that they were all relatively short. Like “One Letter” the main characters “meet” through correspondence, in this case, emails. I think I liked it a little more than the first. I felt Maddie’s trepidation as she travelled to meet Taylor for the first time, especially as she had no idea what he looked like. That was a surprising twist, it’s usually the woman who wishes to remain incognito. Once again, we have that instant attraction, but that’s given by the length of the book. The only thing I didn’t like was the epilogue, which tried to cram so much information in a few pages that it made me realize all the things we’d missed in Maddie and Taylor’s story.
I have read every book/novel by this author and I have to say this is my favorite. ****Spoiler******My only complaint is Taylor calls her Madeline only one time during the entire book.******* It used to be that if a guy couldn't remember your name he would call you something else like "beautiful" so he wouldn't call you the wrong name. I feel like there were other ways the author could have made feel beautiful without continuously calling her it. Sometimes actions speak louder than words.
It was ok. Just not my cup of tea. I stuck with it to the end. Mostly because I just love how well spoken this Author is. I didn’t bond with the girly girl main character.
Great short story, standalone with steamy sexy scenes and an HEA with epilogue.
BBW Maddie is in a book group where she's challenged to start an email pen pal thing with a soldier. She picks Taylor because she's not interested in this and thought it was the least masculine name on the list. Little does she know it's hottie soldier Taylor and they start trading emails.
It was fun to read the email exchanges and I thought the build up was appropriate. I liked that there was a physical attraction that wasn't described as a tingle or whatever the new trend is these days to describe love at first sight.
I met my husband online and traded lots of emails and IMs before meeting and the first time we met we had that attraction, so I think that's why I related to this book so well.
I think because this is short and we're reading only their emails, I was left scratching my head at the point where it shifts from friendly pen pal stuff to worrying about each other... it seemed abrupt, but not enough to put me off the story.
I would have enjoyed reading more about the rest of their weekend when they meet and how her overly involved mother reacted to all of this and how she let her book club know what happened. We're told, but I'd rather be shown.
It started with one email. I found it funny that Madelyn thought she was emailing a woman soldier. I could only imagine the smirk that Taylor got from time to time when he thought about Madelyn thinking he was a woman. He did try to hint from time to time.
Madelyn was only looking from friendship and to give a soldier something to look forward two. She never dreamed that she would find love through emails. Taylor fell in love with how Madelyn poured her heart and soul into each and every email. It just caused him to love her even more.
The first meet between these two was special. Taylor looked forward to meeting this curvy woman he fell in love with through her words. Of course this left plenty of room for his brothers to tease.
This story has been the most special to me so far. Since I live in Kentucky and I met the man that I have been with for 13 years through email. It is a story how one can fall in love with someone’s inward beauty before seeing how beautiful they are on the outside. FIY, there is no way I would of agreed to no book boyfriends..LOL
This is another short read by this author, but longer than the two others I read and I really liked this one. I am getting into the military themed books now and this was a nice one.
I enjoyed the characters Madelyn and Taylor and the premise of writing to a soldier as a thank you and support for all that they do for their country. I enjoyed how Lovell brings you into the e-mailed letters from both characters to help build the story and some insight into each other's mindset. Taylor sounded super hot and sweet and Madelyn just seemed adorable and kind. I am still not too sure about the whole staying over with a person you just literally met, but I guess to each their own. This was just a really nice read.
I would love to know more about Taylor's mischievous brothers, especially Tate, he was really funny and needs his own book. Cute story overall, give it a go people.
& I didn't like the way Madelyn talked about herself. I especially did like how she thought of herself when she got off the plane!!...lol
"My heart pounded in my chest. My palms refused to stop sweating. I was a fat girl In summer, swollen from the 3 hour flight to the closest Kentucky airport and sweating faster than a greasy burger on a hot grill."... Omg!!...lol... Ewww!!!
& when she describing what she's wearing. She says her sandals buckled around her "puffy ankles"!.... That does not sound pretty......lol
She supposed be curvy... Not fat!!...lol
Idk... It just threw me off after all that... I connected better with one letter...
I am a big fan of this author but beyond that this book is so amazing. I am not one to give many 5 star reviews but I think this book deserves it. In this book we meet Madelyn and Taylor, when Madelyn first meets Taylor she is writing to a soldier who she hopes is a woman. The more they write back and forth to one another the more they learn about each other. At first they each do something that makes the other wonder if this is the last time they will hear from one another, however that just seems to be a bump in the road. I like how not only do we get a character development. We get a friendship before lovers aspect to their relationship. This is an amazing book that must be read by one and all. It is about love, friendship, and family. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Madelyn and her book club decide to email so soldiers. She tried to pick a name which she thought was a female. Needless to say after several emails Taylor or Tay as he is called by Madelyn lets it known he is all male.
Taylor pays for Madelyn to fly out to his home to meet his family. His younger brother Tate is with him and can't believe this big woman walking towards them is pretty. Taylor's family loves Madelyn as do Taylor.
This was a quick read and sweet. I loved this read. The author does a great job with her characters.
This is my second military romance by Ms Lovell and I have never been disappointed. The tale of the curvy woman, Madelyn, writing to a soldier not looking for love drew me in from the blurb. Taylor is written as a strong protector who opens up during their email exchanges. I was in love instantly. The chemistry between them is instant and I adore the art of writing a letter to someone no matter the medium (email, snail mail...). Great story!
A story about a BBW and a soldier. She starts writing emails to him as part of a project with her book club. They strike up a friendship and then become enamored of each other through their words. They finally meet and the sparks between fly.
The story is short (very short), but it flows well. I liked it and wished that it was just a little longer.
I loved One Letter and started this with high hopes. The emails started off well, but then it started to feel a little rushed and I felt a little let down, especially cramming an entire life together into a couple of paragraphs....I know this was a novella read of 70 odd pages, but One Letter was shorter and made more impact.
I really like these novellas. They are direct and informative without the drama. I enjoy the characters they are like able and relatable. I felt I could relate and understand where they are coming from. That is rare in a novella however uncommon it shows the strength in the author.
LA VERDAD PARA SER MUY CORTO ES PERFECTO COMO EL PRIMERO , SI BIEN ERAN LIBROS EROTICOS SE ME HICIERON TAN TIERNOS <3 Y LAS PROTAGONISTAS HERMOSAS , SI HUBIERA MAS HOMBRES COMO ESTOS QUE APRECIAN LA ESENCIA Y EL ALMA A UN BUEN CUERPO CREO QUE MAS DE UNA NO CAERIA EN LAS HORRIBLES DEPRESIONES POR EL QUE DICEN LOS DEMAS . ME ENAMORE DE ESTAS HISTORIAS ^_^
