I give this a 4.5⭐️. This was such a quick read but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The whole time I was yelling at Marina and Ekon to get it together!! lol. If you don’t like cliffhangers you may not want to read this one. It ends right at the peak of drama.

Unfortunately they (Marina and Ekon) are both holding themselves accountable for a promise made to someone who passed away that they both loved. Instead of thinking the situation through they have let guilt guide them for years. They have pretty much tortured themselves to be as close as possible without actually being together. They both know they have feelings for each other which is making it hard for them to move on with other people.

I had a feeling that the person who was behind the plotting in the end was a little off but I didn’t realize that it was to the extent that it was. I’m definitely looking forward to part 2.

These two have basically been orbiting each other their entire lives, and while they might’ve convinced themselves that “just friends” was the way to go, their hearts have been saying otherwise all along.

Ekon? Whew. That man is protective to his core. He’s made it his mission to keep Marina safe, standing by her side as her personal security detail—but let’s be real, his attachment runs way deeper than the job. Meanwhile, Marina is over waiting around for something to change. She loves Ekon, has loved him, but when he won’t give her the green light, she starts making moves that force him to really decide where he stands. And let me tell you—the tension between them? So thick you could cut it with a knife.

And that ending? Oh, I’m still recovering. The moment I finished, I had to immediately jump into book 2 because there was no way I was leaving this story hanging. If you love friends-to-lovers with high stakes, frustrating yet swoon-worthy tension, and a story that pulls you all the way in, this one is a must-read. Don’t sleep on it!

Okay, so I was not expecting that ending. I had a feeling something was up with her friend, but the way it played out? Mind blown cause like, girl, what?! As for Jabari, I appreciated the little gestures he made, but something in me just doesn’t trust him. I guess we’ll see in book two. Now Marina and Ekon…the build-up was everything I wanted, I was here for it until they got so close and then bam, nothing happened. At that point I was like, you know what, I might be done rooting for these two, because why y'all playing with my feelings. They know they are supposed to be together. Can't wait to find out what happens next!

Wowsers

I have read a lot of books, but the play by play of diabolical suspense in this book had me floored. I have never...I mean never been ready to yank my hair and scream loud as I did with this book. I swear my nerves are bad and yet I couldn't even put it down. This author put me on a rollercoaster that I need to continue I'm already waiting on book 2. Lord have mercy!

OMG!!! I could’ve & should’ve read this in one night. This book was very good my only disappointment is that the next book isn’t out yet. I purchased this book off TikTok from the authors website after to seeing one of her friends another TikToker promoting her book. I was so enamored with the cover that I had to get a copy and read it. Again, since I purchased from the author she wanted me to give her a review…so here is one of them!

If you’re looking for a good romance with twists and turns, some friend/enemy drama that steams from college…this is the one! I won’t give anything away but I will say it’s a quick but entertaining read.

Upset it ended so quickly

This book mainly focuses on Marina and Ekon and their forbidden love and the endless struggles of resisting each other.
Ekon promises Marina’s late sister Maya that he would never embark on a love affair with Marina . This is one of the hardest things in his life as he knows he loves marina deeply and she loves him too. Out of frustration Marina entertains Jabari her colleague to spite Ekon.
At their annual ball, Marina realises that her best Asha isn’t how she claims to be.
I felt the story ended just when the story was about to be juicy

Didn't see that coming! Definitely a cliffhanger. I am HEA girl, so book 2 is necessary for my sanity. Loved Ekon and Marina's banter. Even though he was confused he was still likeable. I was still rooting for him. Marina did what she should have done, but having him go to the date with her was cold. Onward!!

We Love Love

This story has some unexpected twist & turns that kept me locked in. Definitely reading part 2. The characters are very relatable.
