ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

“He loved her dangerously, viciously, and beautifully.”

Oh this was just too much fun. Such an enjoyable, lighthearted, quick read - I loved every page, and was truly swept up into this fast paced adventure full of loveable characters (loveable enough I’m actually planning to read the spinoffs ?!), men who are absolute simps, happy endings and a bit of spice. For my girlies who need a break from angst!! And this is a bold claim, but I truly believe that this Flynn lived up to the Flynn name - he gave off enough Flynn Rider vibes to really hit the spot. And that is a high, high compliment.

“What kind of pirate would I be if I let somebody steal what is mine?”

Our fmc was a cutie patootie indeed - ready to do what she had to to protect her family, but dreaming of adventure and escapes from 1800s London. I thought she was such a bright, easy to enjoy protagonist, and humorous too. Her banter with our mmc was just too cute - they had such a fun vibe going with so much chemistry, they constantly made me giggle.

“You are mine, Princess. Mine to heal, mine to serve, mine to protect, and above all else, mine to love. Whatever you ask, it will never be too much.”

Our mmc was the perfect book boyfriend for an easy read like this one - protective, funny, trying-to-overthrow-the-monarchy-and-save-the-peoples-Robin-Hood-style, plus a massive simp! We always love a dark haired pirate who’s fully obsessed and devoted to our fmc without any drama. The dream!

“She was his own constellation. She was his way home. She was home. Perhaps it was him that had fallen prey to her. Because whether she knew it or not, she was his to protect, but he belonged to her entirely.”

Overall, this was just pure pleasure and fun. I truly had the time of my life, and I need more of these low-stress romantic adventures!! Thank you so much to the author and NetGalley for the ARC copy!

A woman who transports into the plot of her favorite book where she meets a 6'5 grumpy pirate? Sign me up. Yet there was nothing "fantasy"-esque about this. Once she's in the world, it's just back and forth between their thoughts, which revolve around one thing: each other.

I was hoping this would be better. It wasn't necessarily bad, just a lot of missed potential and opportunities. I also picked it up because it showed a low page count and yet a book under 300 pgs has never felt so long before?

I'd hoped there would be more of an insight of Flynn's pirate world, which there was not. It read like a severely underdeveloped wattpad story. There were so many reused words and strange sentence structure, etc, that it took me out of the story when I wanted to get lost in it. How many times can you write "his hardness pressed against his pants"? A dozen, apparently. The narrator butts in a lot which I'm not used to in a story and I'm coming to realize I don't like. This all just means there's so much room for improvement! However, I was hoping to read something that was polished, not the WIP draft, which is what this felt like.

thank you netgalley for the arc!

I loved it so much. I couldn't put it down. My god, this book is so good. I'm in love 😭🤌. The banter and the side characters, everything, literally everything is so perfect. I love how meddling Flynn's mother Martha is. It was so mesmerizing and captivating I just couldn't stop myself from devouring it in a day. I was hooked from the start. I cannot explain it to you guys.

It's beautifully written, and it's a cute read with lots of adventure. It's the story of the reader and her favorite character. I love how strong-minded Emily is. She knows what she wants and never shies away from saying it. I loved Flynn's character. He’s a sweetheart. He’s possessive of his things and, of course, his people.

Thank you for having me as your beta reader.🫶🏻🎀

I love it when writing a review is this easy—I am obsessed with His To Love by Elena Covens. And you will be, too, once the book is out on August 1st!

His to Love is a quick, fast-paced, spicy portal fantasy with cinnamon roll pirate MMC. Add to the mix a witty narrator, an FMC who suddenly finds herself in a world that should exist only in her favourite book, and you get the perfect palate cleanser romantasy read.

I loved the book's premise—everything is improbable, not impossible. It surely makes you daydream about falling into a fantasy world yourself, right?

Emily & Flynn were a joy to read; the way their relationship blossomed throughout the story was precious to witness. The side characters were perfect, and I fell in love with them all.

Emily is seemingly just an ordinary girl mourning her father, immersing herself in her favourite book, and waiting to marry someone she doesn't know or love, as that is the way of things. But one lighting will change it all...

I loved the plot, the storytelling, and the narrator; His to Love was just a joy to read, and I am so happy I got to be Elena's ARC reader. His to Love can be read as a standalone, but it is a part of interconnected stories in her Second Chance series. I can't wait for the next book to swoon over another beautifully written story!

His to Love offers
- fast-paced romantasy standalone
- witty narrator
- FMC finding herself within the pages of her favourite book
- spice
- cinnamon roll pirate MMC
- found family
- second-chance romance
- perfect banter,
and so much more!

I received this book through NetGalley as an ARC and I have to say I really am pleasantly surprised. I gave this 3.5 to 4 stars.
It was an intriguing story and had a plot twist I truly didn’t see coming. The storyline and writing in this gave me major Bridgerton x Peter Pan x Pirates vibes and I really did enjoy the play with fantasy. I love the concept that she is sucked into the world she reads and loves, as a reader that is a major wish is to be able to slip between the pages of your book and live the life they lead, experience all the magic really.
The reason I didn’t rate this higher was just due to a personal preference, a majority of the story was told through third POV which isn’t something I was used to and threw me off quite a few times throughout the story.
Flynn gave off some jealous, you touch her and see what happens next, cinnamon roll but morally grey for her. He definitely was smitten almost immediately and it was cute to see how their relationship developed. I would recommend for my fantasy lovers who are just starting to dip their feet into an easy to read fantasy book without complicated world building
*Potential Spoiler*
I did not like the ending because it had a micro trope that I am really not a fan of but it was right at the end so I’ll have to pretend it didn’t happen. #delulu
Good work Elena Covens, I look forward to reading your future books. Just would like to share that I thought the ‘dear writer’ moments were quite amusing and I would read the rest of the page with a British accent.

Fav quotes:
“In that moment she could have asked for a star and he would have found a way to capture the entire solar system for her”
“Your pleasure is what I want, princess and I am a man desperate to be rewarded”

Romance + Pirates + Accidentally traveling to another world - and you are pretty much set for a crazy adventure.

While reading, Emily experiences a storm that sends her into the pages of her absolute favorite book. Once there she meets Flynn Sawyer a pirate intent on exacting his revenge on the king. You could definitely see how Emily blossomed being free from the constraints of her own world and Flynn is a pirate you just love from the beginning. This book was fun and action packed and I enjoyed it!

“But you cannot love me, Flynn. That is not your story—“
“Then rewrite the story, Emily. So that I may spend the rest of my days getting to know the real you.”

Thank you, NetGalley & Author Elena H Covens for this ARC!

3/5 ⭐️

This was a fun, fast-paced, spicy, pirate romance that had a good premise with an enjoyable cast of characters. As an ARC and an indie book, I hate to mention editing and grammatical issues, but it really did hold the book back and made parts of the reading experience not as enjoyable. I debated DNFing it in the beginning when I noticed several issues right at the start, but decided to make my way through it as I did find the premise interesting. I think that the overall concept of the book was good and there is a lot of potential, but it reads like a draft that needed more time in the editing stage.

I debated putting this under the 2 star ranking, but decided that I enjoyed enough aspects to give it 3 stars. I'm also hopeful that some of the issues will be fixed when it is officially released.

Thank you to NetGalley, Elena H. Covens, and Victory Editing for my early access to this.

I had the honor of beta reading His To Love & let me tell you it had me in my feels!!
I loved every minute of it!! I honestly wanted to hurry her up with the rest of the chapters that’s how invested I was in Emily & Flynn!😅🤣🤣🤍🤍

& let me just say the moment Flynn appeared in the story he stole my heart right then and there along with his crew🤭🫶🏻

I loved the banter and connection there was among the characters I loved how Emily was trying not to get close to him (like come on we all know better that never works out!🤭🫠🫠)

I loved Emily as well how she knew exactly what she wanted, but also didn’t want to disappoint, I felt bad that she had lost the person she was close to in the beginning (her father)

But then reading on there’s a “wtf!! (Yesss type of moment) you’ll understand when you read💀💀

I def recommend adding to your tbr or checking out for your next read 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

how to love was very very entertaining from the first few chapters and had a bit of a narnia feel (except its pirates and emily goes into a book not a wardrobe)

i really loved the characters and emily’s fiery spirit and willingness for adventure- she was such a dynamic FMC especially for a book set in the 1800s
i also loved flynn - he was everything you want a pirate to be daring and ready for danger..
even the side characters like lucas and levi were exciting and funny to read about

in lived the plot and the different places we visited in flynn’s world - i felt the plot pacing was steady and i never got bored of being in one place for a few chapters
the plot twist is something i did not see coming and it was easily and expertly interwoven into the story!

with that being said i felt like the narrators interjections were sometimes a bit pointless and just confused me .. it felt like there wasn’t enough interjections meaning the flow was lost at parts were the narrator did interject.

however, this didn’t take away from the entertaining element of the story and i loved the way the plot was presented !

“You do not always have to be perfectly put together, you are allowed to feel cracked once in a while.”

“His To Love,” by Elena H. Covens

This was a really good book. I love pirates and wealthy girl that needs to learn to have fun type of books. I loved that she fell into her favorite book and needed to find her way out. I loved the romance between the mc’s and the character development was perfect. Definitely one of the great pirate romances I’ve read and can’t wait to read more of the series. 5 out of 5 stars.

When Emily Underwood, a simple girl living in London in the 1800s, is transported into the world of her favorite Pirate Adventure book by a freak lightning storm, she doesn’t know what to expect. What she does know is that Flynn Sawyer, the 6’5” swashbuckling pirate and heartthrob heroine of her book, is standing right in front of her. Will Emily be able to survive this story and make it back home, despite her growing favor towards the dangerous pirate within? Will Flynn be able to push his feelings aside and complete his lifelong mission of killing the greedy King?

This was a fast paced romance-fantasy filled with adventure and banter. It was easily one of the quickest reads of my life, with the Covens wasting no time getting to the meat of her story. I simultaneously enjoyed and was disappointed by this aspect of the writing. I loved how easy the story was to dive into, with such a unique concept of the main character literally falling into her book, but I couldn’t help but want more from time to time. I wished there had been more buildup to the romance in the story, but at the same time I really enjoyed the cheesy love at first sight type of story Covens portrayed.

Regardless, if you are looking for an easy romance to read, this is the story for you!! Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC. His to Love will be out everywhere August 1st :)

This was such a fun read. Imagine getting to meet your book boyfriend in real life! I loved everything about this book. Pirates, adventure, love, and a little spice. Such a unique and imaginative story. Quick and easy read and just a feel good read over all. I also enjoyed the narrator popping in from time to time. It gave me Bridgeton vibes. Cannot wait for the next adventure.

I really enjoyed this book. I am a sucker for a main character getting transported in their favorite book. I thought she had the right amount of sass. I thought he was super sweet male lead, but I thought the book lack something. I don’t know what it is, but it was still a good read. I think it was a quick story that you know settled my craving for Pirates of the Caribbean. yes I have been watching Pirates of the Caribbean, but overall, I thought it was amazing.

*Arc Gifted By NetGalley in exchange for Honest Feedback*

The premise of this story was intriguing, it had the makings of a memorable plot line and had potential.

Having read many books by Indie Authors, Typo’s/ Small errors are something I have no problem overlooking. However, the formatting, grammar and switches in POV from first person to third person made it incredibly hard to read. The author could greatly benefit from the help of an editor or someone to guide on this. The writing came across as immature, and could use work.

I do feel that with some help this author has great potential, but, the writing style really wasn’t for me, I struggled through the first few chapters, but DNF’d at 13% as it was really hard to read. I would however be willing to revisit the story if it was properly edited.

2.5 stars if possible!
Thank you to Netgalley for my ARC copy of this book!

I requested this book as I found the story to be compelling and quite a refreshing concept, but I found the execution rather lacking. The concept has the bones of being a really interesting book with the main character being dropped into the plot of her favourite book, and the twists to the story could be brilliant.

The first point which I noticed throughout the book was the two time periods in which the story is set. Explicitly stating that the main character is from 1830 and that the book is set in the 1700s meant I expected the writing style to reflect this. Instead, the dialogue felt as though it was set in 2024. The way in which the characters swore, spoke about intimacy and introduced themselves suggested no hint of the time period in which they lived. At one point a character’s sexuality is referenced and they state ‘our times are not kind to men like me’ which feels rather on the nose considering the characters have no reference to the later acceptance of sexuality and identity? This took me out of the world of the book on numerous occasions and I think an author should either immerse the writing style fully into the era in which a book is set, or be more vague on the era we’re in.

I am a fan of a cheesy romance novel with stereotypical tropes and connections which border on disbelief, but I think this book really fails to establish the connection between the two main characters outside of sexual chemistry. Feelings seem to appear out of nowhere merely to carry on the plot and the sexual scenes. Not only was this evident in the romance, it also appeared within the familial relationships, with reactions never seeming to match what would be expected (very vague as to not spoil anything).

Overall I think the concept of this book is good and has the potential to become a series of ‘character ends up in the I favourite book’, but I think much more editing to establish time periods must be done before I would rate this any higher.

(I received an ARC via Netgalley - thank you!)

LET ME TELL TALL. HOW FUN THIS WAS. I read this book front to back in... 6ish hours. Which is lightning speed. That's how DEEP I was in this story. It's such a fun Romp. Something I needed.

A cozy Romantasy with Book Hopping and spice???? Absolutely a wonderful time. The book hopping had me. I was sold on that alone.

✨✨✨✨✨ From me.

--

Now a little more critical, I heavily enjoyed this book. The writing was fun and easy to read. I enjoyed the narration style. It's Definitely a light lovely summer romance read for those who enjoy some swashbuckling action with some wonderful spice.

The intimate scenes were lovely. I enjoyed the dynamic between the two and felt like there was a healthy dynamic. I will say they start to fall for each other rather quickly but given the pacing of the book I'm fine with it.

For me a book is a 5 star if I had a good time and I had no issues reading it. And in this case it is now up there in my guilty pleasure reads. I was SCREAMING all about this book. And my heart has been stolen.

Thank you again for the advanced copy.

Thank you to @netgalley and @VictoryEditing for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

The moment I saw this book I knew that I had to read it! The thought of being transported into your favorite book to live life alongside the characters is any book lovers dream, and now I get to read it? This sounded absolutely amazing and I had a feeling I would enjoy it , especially with the pirates.

I did enjoy this book, it was a cute quick read and I thought the way the author gave backstories to the characters that you otherwise wouldn’t know if reading the book was clever. That happens often with side characters and I felt it was a cute nod to needing to develop even those outside our main couple. The side characters stole the show on many accounts and gave me many of my laughing moments.

I enjoyed the narration style where it is clear a third party is telling us the story, sneaking in little quips and hints about what is happening. This author takes third person omniscient to the next level, even in what could be considered a “dual POV” book between our MCs.

This book wasn’t perfect as I do feel like it could use more development when it comes to our Main Characters. I enjoyed the tension between them but at times it did fall a bit flat.

Overall, a decent read for anyone who wants a quick deviation from reality in the form of a dream we all undoubtedly have.

Thank you so much to Elena for providing me with an ARC copy of His To Love. Oh the things I would give to be Emily Underwood. I mean really who doesn’t want to be taken by their favourite book character? This book was absolutely phenomenal and I found the plot to be very unique and fun. I really loved all the characters and watching Emily find her true self throughout this book, not only is it a super fun read but there’s also some moments that will have you reflecting on life and love in your own life. Elena’s writing is simply just addicting and it’s hard to put down the book once you pick it up. This book is written from a narrators POV which I thought was really fun because even though you’re the one reading the book it feels as though you’re being read a story as the narrator will acknowledge you as the reader which you don’t see too often in adult books. Overall, I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait to see what Elena has in store for us next!

This was the perfect palate cleanser following a VERY dense read, and it was such a delight. The plot was pretty straightforward, which allowed for more room for the characters to shine. Flynn delivered on everything I could have hoped for: roguish, charming, and a heart of gold. I don’t think I could have kept spoilers to myself if I had been the one pulled into my favourite book, but Emily handled herself like a proper heroine and kept it together 😂😂. I loved the writing style, which included a mysterious narrator that I’m sure we’ll see plenty more of in the books to come. Overall, this was such an enjoyable story and a fantastic start to a new series I already can’t wait to revisit. My only critique would be that the tone of the narrator herself felt at odds with some of the content of the story in a few places, but I’m sure this will all make sense later in the series.

This sounded like a great book and I loved the idea of her seeking adventure and loving reading about pirates. It reminded me of what Belle wanted in Beauty and the Beast. My problem with the book was that it was on the shorter side and so it didn’t feel like the development was really there for the romance. It lacked what I wanted to see. Another issue I had was with the narration. It was told in third person which is what I enjoy but there was also a narrator voice every now and again and it would pop up before the chapter ended so it was very abrupt and I had a hard time with that.

I wish there would have been more from Flynn’s world as well. Everything just kind of felt surface level.

Overall, it was okay. I liked the adventure Emily found herself on but I wish there was more depth.

I just want to say thank you to Elena for sending me this book personally I’m so glad to have a copy of it on my kindle.💕

This story was truly captivating, I’ve been reading long stories so this was a great light fluffy romance, fast paced read.

The story is already off to a twisting start she opened the book her father had lent her after the very sweet librarian got It rebinded and fixed for her, and ofc that’s when a storm rolls in and she finds herself waking up inside of the lovely adventure she’s read about.

The pirate in the tavern blood beard is her FATHER WTH

What the fuck he died he died this was not how the story should’ve went I’m so sorry for Flynn he loved her and she loved him

Omg thank god he’s alive thank Jesus, I’m so happy she went back SHE WENT BACK.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley, Elena Covens and Victory Editing for this ARC.

His To Love is book 1 in the Second Chance Books series.

Emily Underwood's mother wants her to get married soon but she doesn't want to, she'd like to stay buried in the books in the library where no one else visits. One day, as she's reading her favourite book that her father seems to have left her, she is pulled inside the world of Flynn Sawyer, the famous pirate.

Firstly, I had to request the book as I loved the cover. The story had me hooked and I enjoyed the narration too. Although in the middle part of the book, I felt there wasn't much happening in terms of the story developing or more world building.

There are too many things that fall short with this book which is why it's only a 2 star rating, but if I were to sum it up...

This could have been amazing if the storyline was fleshed out, there are too many gaps you have to fill in and unfortunately it feels like you're reading a draft of the book.

The relationship between Flynn and Emily is very much an insta love, there was almost no build to their relationship and it focused more on sex than their connection. They were cute but as a reader the relationship felt empty because there was no real foundation to them.

Super cute adorable and fun with a spash of spice to boot! Emily gets transported by magic into one of her favorite books and has to help the sexy lead pirate with his mission to get back home. This was a fun little pirate romp. Nothing incredibly unique or special, but I was very entertained and I was actually surprised with how much spice was in it.

I received a complimentary copy through NetGalley but my thoughts are MINE just like Emily is Flynn's.

Unfortunately, this book did not have any developmental editor and it shows. I spotted a typo in the introduction and my heart sank as I realized it was very possible that this was a low-quality indie book and that I wouldn't be able to make it through. Books like these give indie publications in general a bad name. The concept is creative and intriguing but the execution needs far more work before this could be a successful novel. The main character Emily liked to hang out in a library called Second Chance Books, which confused me because this sounds like the name of a book store. In any case, I only got 10% in before I decided to stop reading because the quality of the writing and editing is so poor. There are far too many other books of greater quality competing for my attention and a reader's time is precious.
