A Cure for Recovery : A College Town Novella

Rate this book
"Tommy’s been a Granger instead of a Katz or a Cattaneo for almost seven months, and he’s still not tired of signing his new legal name on documents, or seeing it printed in his email signature. He especially likes the sight of it in the elegant script of Leo and Dana’s wedding save-the-date cards.

But even the charm of his new name, and the new life it represents, can’t make up for the drudgery of yet another doctor’s appointment."

Tommy survived a shooting, retired from the NYPD, and married the love of his life, but recovery, he's learned in the seven months since, isn't as straightforward as physical healing. Set after the events of "College Town," A Cure for Recovery tells a domestic story of love, and frustration, and working through tough times with the people you love most. A story of family, and the fears and joys of a future you never thought you'd get to live.

This M/M novella is not a standalone and must be read after "College Town."

Tommy's struggle to recover is no joke or fiction. Recovery depression is a very real thing. For some, like Tommy, facing it and talking about it is sometimes just as difficult and makes the depression worse. In Tommy's case it is a culmination of things that have him down on himself. It is refreshing to see the evolution of his face to face realization of how he feels and the root cause of those feelings. It isn't only his impatience with himself to be one hundred percent to his post self but also the guilt he feels for leaving Lawson.

Fortunately the family Tommy has married into is very supportive of him and his relationship with their son. Revealing his soul to Lawson was a difficult but necessary feat. Not surprisingly, Lawson is very supportive of his plight to become a good husband. Tommy realizes that there are certain things he has to accept in order to change and become the husband he wants to be for Lawson. In turn, Tommy understands his acceptance for what is helps him support Lawson when he needs it most.

Wonderful follow up novela to College Town. Please note this is not a stand alone novela, it is in sequence to College Town. Thank you Ms. Gilley! I'm glad this wonderful side project will help you with the very challenging Lord have Mercy IV.

Fabulous

I miss Lawson and Tommy so much already! I loved this book. Lauren Gilley has a way with words and drawing you into a story that makes it real and almost as if you're gonna bump into them in the street or meet up for a drink like long lost friends! So lovely to catch up with these characters again and just a fabulous read. More please!
