When Bennett Archer walked into my favourite nightclub, celebrating his promotion to London Southwark University’s first team, he immediately caught my eye.
Since then I haven’t been able to get him out of my mind. On paper, we’re complete opposites. I’m flamboyant and assertive, while he’s laid-back and reserved. His hobby is football, and mine is showing my body to my online subscribers.
But there’s something about him. Something I want to pursue. So I decide to show up at his football match and make it clear that I’m interested in him.
I know I can be too much for some people, but am I too much for him? I can tell he’s tempted by me…but will he give in to his curiosity?
Tempted is an M/M new adult college romance novella, and is part of the LSU series. Each book can be read as a standalone.

Hey there good friend of mine, just came by to let you know that my New Year’s Resolution is to sometime read Pride & Prejudice this upcoming year. For real this time! Please hold me to that, because otherwise it’s just going to be books like Tempted all year round, and I really am worried that my attention span will end up permanently diminished if this is the only kind of stuff I read. TikTok brained, if you will. You know how there are all these articles talking about how newer T.V. shows are being written with the though that the person watching is on their phone the whole time (I admit that I’m frequently guilty of this)? Well yeah, you can tell because that’s probably the reason why dialogue in shows are increasingly becoming simplified to the point where they just keep repeating information to the audience in the hopes that something sticks. I reckon this book is the literary answer to that style of T.V. writing. If you will, TikTok Brained. So here’s the sitch: college boy Bennett Something-Or-Another (don’t quiz me on this book, I have as much knowledge about it as somebody who hasn’t read it) goes to a strip club with his frat boy friends and gets a rude queer awakening when he's given the lap dance to end all lap dances from one Niccolò Such-and-Such. What follows is a love story without any drama or tension and then we get an epilogue that jumps forward five years in which we learn that they still don’t have any drama or tension in their relationship. I'm happy for them, I guess. I don’t want to say this was a waste of time… but I’m afraid no other phrase is coming to my brain at the moment. I mean, it doesn’t help that the name “Bennett” has me picturing of a stuck up rich boy à la Haunting of Bly Manor and the name “Niccolò” has me imagining a 16th century poet rather than a 5’8 twink who’s looking to get dicked down by a football player. Look, I’m not trying to throw shade here, because a lot of people love stories that focus on queer happiness over all else, and that's great. There's room for queer media that straight up sucks ass too! Okay, maybe I'm throwing a little shade here, but it's more like Mariah Carey throwing first pitch. Otherwise, given that Bennett doesn’t have any hang-ups about Niccolò having an OnlyFans (that does numbers, mind you), it could be seen as subversive writing considering you’d think a closeted dude named “Bennett Archer” would most definitely take issue with his partner doing porn. Insecure men letting their insecurities and jealously ruin any chance of happiness really is a tale as old as time, no? So yeah, even though this book side-stepped a trope as tired as Snorlax, I really do think that in order for something to be subversive, then your work as a whole should, you know… subvert it with something!
It's like in Game of Thrones where they had (Spoilers for that shitty season of Game of Thrones) Arya Stark kill the Night King even though there would be no emotional catharsis for anyone killing him except for Jon. But nah, because writers were so obsessed with subverting classic story conventions, they never thought to check if doing so actually made any narrative sense! Because with Tempted having nothing in the way of dramatic tension, we’re then just left reading a bunch of pages where nothing happens except two dudes funking all night. And that’s cool or whatever, I can dig it, but my problem here is that I didn’t even feel the chemistry between the two main characters! They just didn’t really seem the kind to converse with each other outside of going on and on about how hot the other one was, and I’m sorry, but if your book doesn’t have any conflict, then it’s very important for the dialogue to be top notch… and that’s just not present here. One time I was watching music videos for fun like every self-respecting gay, and this one song called “Good Lovin” by Ludacris and Miguel came on, and even though I like this song well enough, I remember seeing this comment that said something along the lines of “this is real love making music." Um... really? I mean, different strokes for different folks or whatever… but let’s be real, who’s out there fucking to Ludacris!? Mr. Blueberry Yum Yum himself? Like, would you start stroking to the beat? Moaning in harmony with Miguel!? I’m just playing, but I’m saying! That’s pretty much how I feel about how the scene where Niccolò seduces Bennett with his sexy dance moves, because it always makes me wonder what goes through a person’s mind when they get a private dance... just sitting there with a boner. "Gee, what a titillating dance, I will now ejaculate into my jeans." Clean up on aisle pants! I don’t know, I would find the whole situation terribly awkward, stuck in a chair and all that. I'd want to join in on the dancing too, you know? Get your back up off the wall, like the song says! It’s like when people are singing “Happy Birthday” to you and you’re just supposed to sit there and look around nodding your head every now and then! Does anybody else feel this, or is it just me!? Anyway, what I’m trying to get at here is that it never actually felt like Niccolò and Bennett should have moved past the “one night stand” phase to their relationship, and that whenever the narrative would try to wax poetic about love and commitment, it fell short because just a few pages prior Bennett's main concern was on whether or not he should secretly subscribe and jork it to Niccolò’s OnlyFans. Sheesh, and who was it that said romance was dead?
“You’re right.” “Always am.” He gave me another bright smile. “So. Wanna fuck?”
Tempted is a low angst, opposites attract romance featuring athletic Ben and extroverted Nico. They are opposites in every way, they have great chemistry and hilarious banter making for such a fun story that I could not get enough of. They have a funny meet-cute that leads to both guys questioning whether or not their connection was in the heat of the moment or something more genuine.
Overall Tempted is a great, highly entertaining low-angst romance that I loved seeing these two get together with all their hilarious hijinks.
*** I reviewed a complimentary copy of this story.***
I loved Niccolò in JJ’s book, and so wish that his and Ben’s story was a full length book because I really loved their characters and the instant chemistry between them.
*originally read this in the Hit Me With Your Best Shot Anthology*
So when I read Dared, I found out about Nic and Ben and I just had to come back and read their story. I absolutely fell in love with these guys. The book was fun, cute and a quick and easy read and I enjoyed every minute spent between the pages, I would have loved a full-length novel with these two.
This was not my jam at all. I’m not a fan of cam boy books and the fact that Nico does scenes with other people kind of pushed it into the porn category for me which I hate even more. He even has his roommate come in and film him and motivate him. I also didn’t like how forward he was. I hate when authors make guys who used to hook up besties which Nic and JJ were, they hooked up multiple times and he still sits on JJ’s lap. Idk this whole book rubbed me the wrong way.
Tempted by Becca Steele is a bright, flirty M/M college romance novella about Niccolò Rossi, a flamboyant, assertive student-camboy with a big personality, and Bennett Archer, a laid-back, reserved college soccer player whose paths cross in a nightclub and then quickly spiral into chemistry, curiosity, and a bi-awakening connection neither expected. Set in the LSU series universe, this standalone story follows two opposites exploring attraction, identity, and what it means to step outside your comfort zone when someone makes you feel alive.
The thing that made this novella feel so fun and alive was Niccolò’s bold confidence and Bennett’s thoughtful, slightly hesitant energy as he begins to question what he wants and who he’s becoming around Nic. Their meet-cute is playful and warm, and the banter between them often made me smile because Nic’s exuberance contrasts so wonderfully with Bennett’s more grounded personality. Reviewers often describe the chemistry as instant and sizzling, with laugh-out-loud moments and authentic queer exploration as Bennett examines his curiosity and feelings while Nic openly expresses his desire to pursue something real with him. Despite its short length, it doesn’t skimp on heat, heart, or that satisfying progression toward emotional connection that made me root for these two to find their footing together.
What resonated most was how Tempted made me feel both light-hearted and genuinely invested in Nic and Bennett’s connection: there’s a sweetness beneath the spice that kept me smiling, and the supportive appearances from characters in the wider LSU world gave it a cozy, communal cheer.
I’d give Tempted 4 out of 5 stars because it delivers adorable chemistry, honest exploration of self, and a satisfying, hopeful romance even in its novella form, a perfect bite-sized treat for fans of fun, grounding queer college romance.
This series wasn't really a good pick for me, looking back. I have no problem with a British setting, I like soccer books, but I think this series is meant for a bit younger audience, like 15-20 year old, tops.
I don't like the dialogues, I don't like the way these guys come together, the whole bi-awakening thing wasn't well done here
"Another poor, confused, not- so- straight LSU football player. Welcome to the club."
and the story was a quick, insta express of forming a (long lasting) relationship - the story doesn't offer much, yet gives you an epilogue after years of being together.
🔵 Soccer player/FBO creator (kind of like OF) 🟣 Gay/Bi-awakening 🟢 Size difference 🌶️ Some smut; didn't really care much about it; t/b
Just a few things that'll tell you how Niccolo and Ben start their love story after they meet at a gay club, later kiss, then don't see each other for months and then their friends get them together (that's it, that's the whole story);
“Nic? Want to come back to my halls of residence so we can talk in private?”
“I don’t know what I want. You… confuse me, Niccolò.”
“Why don’t you lie back and let me entertain you?”
“Has anyone ever told you how lovely you are? I think you’re the loveliest footballer I know.”
"I was swooning like a Victorian maiden."
Nothing wrong if you like a bit superficial, quick bi-awakening stories and this is what you'll get with this series overall, but for me it's just not really working.
Most of the books from this series have been 2⭐ books for me, so it's probably the writing that's bugging me.
Tropes: camboy/athlete, opposites attract, college Feels: 1/5 Steam*: 1/5 Kinks: n/a Angst: low HEA: yes Pairing: MM Triggers/potential icks/content warnings/representation: unsupportive parents, sex work, references to hookups with others Cheating between MCs: No Any cheating: No Other person drama: They meet once, twice, they kiss and almost have more. But they are interrupted and they don't see each other for 3 months. Ben definitely dates in between we hear. And Nic shrugs his thing with Ben off and says on to other boys, he's very casual about sex so definitely with others. Then they meet again and start a thing.
2.25 stars
Nic is a college student, paying his way through by camboying (solo and collabs). He's out and proud. Ben is a college soccer player, who is bi-curious. They meet and Nic hits on Ben. They have a couple meetups, they kiss, did they get interrupted and they give up on each other. They don't see each other for 3 months, but Ben is preoccupied with thoughts of Nic.
Nic is a bit flighty. Very casual about sex, interested in Ben in a very superficial way. Its like Ben is a pretty butterfly that caught his attention but it will only last a moment. Ben is also casual about Nic, not ready to even call it boyfriends for weeks and weeks of them being together and going on dates all the time. It's so casual and surface level, even for a novella, there was just this lack of depth to their dynamic and to their personalities. I just wasn't invested and felt nothing while reading this, no tension, nothing swoony. The only saving grace was that there was an epilogue 5 years in the future and you see them settled in as a couple long-term.
They are definitely both with others during the 3 month separation. This is kind of a stupid choice for a novella for a couple of reasons, you only have so much time to build up tension and you're wasting it by having them be apart for so long, plus both be with others? Silly.
Some notable moments:
"Back to watching him. So. To recap. Sexy face, nice strong thighs and arms. What else? I needed a closer look at his torso, but I was sure it would be just as lickable as the rest of him, and oh, his ass was pretty. Muscular with a good curve. Perfect for biting. “I want to bite his ass,” I announced to JJ. “Of course you do, babe.” He sighed."
*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.
**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I like the books in this series much more when they're short like this one - for me, the quicker pacing matches the instalove better than the longer length books do.
This was really cute and you could feel Nic's personality coming through when it was his POV. Definitely a happy, light and fluffy read and it fits well into this series.
Rating: 4.5/5 🌟 Spice: 2/5 🌶️ Characters: Bennett and Niccolò
You meet Niccolò in Ignited (JJ's book). If you've read Becca's m/m romance books, then you will enjoy this one as well. You get college sports, first times, and a camboy. I just wish it was longer (I literally say that on all of her books, novella or novel length).
Gahhh this novella!! It hits me in the feels every. dang. time. 😭💘 I think I’ve read it four times now? Maybe five? Who’s counting? (Me. It’s me.)
We first met Niccolò in Sidelined as JJ’s flirty friend—remember the one who offered to help Ander explore his 👀 “curiosity”? Then in Ignited, we got full Nic energy: sassy, fabulous, scene-stealing. I lived for every second. He’s confident, cheeky, endearing as hell, and absolutely knows what (and who) he wants. Spoiler alert: it’s Bennett. 😏💅
And speaking of Bennett...HELLO NEW CRUSH 🥵 We’re just meeting him here but he slotted into the LSU world like he was made for it. The quiet, thoughtful footballer who gets caught up in the hurricane that is Niccolò—and never quite recovers. One night out with the boys and BAM 💥 his life is no longer the same.
Their chemistry?? SCORCHING. 🔥🔥 The banter?? Top tier. The spice?? Chef’s... actually no, not saying it. But you get me. 😆 And beneath it all? So much heart. These two were just made for each other. Add in a few nudges from Ander and JJ (and a VERY iconic cupboard moment 👀) and you’ve got yourself a novella that’s sweet, sexy, and so, so satisfying.
Even if you haven’t read the rest of the LSU series (though honestly why haven’t you?!), Tempted is the perfect bite-sized treat 🍬 that’ll leave you smiling like a goof.
Tempted is a novella from the LSU series. This MM college romance story is about Niccolò and Bennett.
One of my favorite books in this series is Ignited, and I really enjoyed meeting Niccolò while reading JJ’s story. I was excited we were going to get Niccolò’s story, even if it was a short one.
Nic and Ben are opposites. Nic is a cam boy that is very forward and Ben is a football (soccer) player that is more reserved. They have instant chemistry when they meet. Ben hasn’t been with a guy before, so he is definitely curious and very tempted by Nic. It was great to see Nic and Ben’s relationship develop, and I thought these two were so great together. I loved all of their sweet and spicy moments and wish we got more of them. Overall I really enjoyed Nic and Ben’s love story.
I read this in the anthology HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT
MM Romance/ College Romance/ UK Setting/ Soccer Player/Adult Content Creator/Bi-Awakening
I loved Niccolò in Ignited. He’s very outgoing and didn't mince words. So when he meets Bennett for the first time, who isn't sure what he is yet...as far as orientation...Nic is very forward. Niccolò's personality is infectious and it's not to say that Ben is shy, but he's just - to be honest, has questions about guys and Nic is super sweet and very willing to help answer those questions. Even though I loved Niccolò and Bennett moments, the cameos from the other couples, especially Ander are hilarious. The "Ball club" 😂 Bennett, Ander, Levi, and Liam - footballers who now have boyfriends as Ander coined it...he's definitely likes making Ben blush when answering Ben's questions. I loved returning to LSU for this steamy short story.
I fell in love with Bennett, despite his initial bi-curiosity. He couldn’t deny the way he felt for Niccolo, and their journey together is a beautiful exploration of love and self-acceptance. These two characters make such a lovely couple, their differences creating a dynamic and heartwarming connection.
Becca Steele's portrayal of Niccolo and Bennett's relationship is electric. The stark contrast between their personalities adds a rich layer of complexity to their interactions. Niccolo's boldness and Bennett's tentative curiosity create a dynamic tension that is both engaging and relatable.
The exploration of bi-awakening is handled with nuance and sensitivity, offering readers not just a romance but a profound journey of self-discovery for both characters. Steele’s vivid and evocative writing breathes life into Niccolo and Bennett, making their story both heartwarming and unforgettable.
I love this series so much. It's definitely at the top of my favorite sports romances I've read. I'm not sure how I forgot about reading this when it released. It's a quick, fun read. It makes me want to go back to the beginning of it all and do another read through. I love that Nic just says what's on his mind, and that he met Ben. They were so cute.
Me gusto pero nada más, no era necesario tal vez más profundidad en la historia siento que deja temas muy de lado pero entiendo que era un relato de una antología y solo añade el epílogo pero meh
I read this when it was in an anthology and loved it but wanted more from them especially Niccolo . Well i got my wish Becca wrote more and i just loved Niccolo and his sass and the way Bennett adored him was everything.
A solid quick read. I really liked both characters and felt like I got to know them fairly well considering the length of the story. There were some hot sex scenes and a some teasing hotness with Nic’s cam work. The biggest drawback is that I never really felt an emotional connection between the two. They obviously liked each other and really liked hooking up but there were no moments when I felt like it became more. 3.5 stars rounded up because the characters felt like a fresh take on popular character types.
This is a cute addition to the LSU books. Ben and Nicco are so cute together. It was nice to see the others from the LSU books show up in support in tempted.
I read book 4 in this series without realizing that this short existed, I downloaded the novella right away so I could read Ben and Nico’s story too as they are an established couple in book 4. It was a good short but probably not necessary to read if you’re not interested.
