I've not read much gothic horror before, so I can't say how it compares to the classics of the genre. However, this really blew me away! The writing style is so vivid; At times I felt the hair stand up on my neck from fear and tension, and I felt sick to my stomach in disgust. The provincial romantic start to the story slowly morphs into a desperate nightmare. The starting chapter of the second part of the book is possibly the best thing I've ever read.
I have a first-edition copy, and because it is an indie publication it has some issues such as spelling which would be resolved with more editing. However, this really did not detract from my experience.
