Gaius Serrano is a mysterious figure in the world of wine. He’s arrogant. Darkly handsome.
And—my instinct warns me—dangerous. He’s the last person I want owning my family’s debt.
Since my parents died, I’ve been responsible for my sibling's future and fortunes in the form of our family’s business. I’ll pay any price to get it back.
But he doesn’t want my money. He wants to master my pleasure. One night for one share of the business. If I give myself to him, I can earn my business back piece by piece.
I have no choice. I have to take the deal. I fall into his arms, into his bed. Into a world of passion that threatens to consume us both.
Because Gaius doesn’t want mere pieces of me. He wants all of me.
He’ll bring me to the edge over and over again until he breaks me.
"Her Vampire Lord" is the story of Marechal and Gaius. They first appeared at "Her Vampire Prince" as secondary characters. Their story was fast-paced and somehow sweet, with a minor twist toward the end that was resolved quite quickly. I had some trouble with the steamy moments as some descriptions were on the extreme side, especially the flashback with Gaius sire.
' Her Vampire Lord ' is another book in the 'Midnight Doms Series ' by Ines Johnson. This is Gaius and Marechal's story.
This was a good fantasy read for me. I expected more from the book , but it just seemed to be lacking in a lot of aspects. However I found that the story was lacking in terms of storyline. The steamy scenes were good, but I just couldn't connect to the characters. I would recommend this book to all the fantasy Vampire fans. But for me this was a one time read , which I devoured in a single sitting!
Another wonderful entry in this enticing series. The main characters shared amazing chemistry and created plenty of sizzling heat. I thought the story was well written and very engaging. These were complex characters that were easy to like, cheer on and connect with. Drama, tension, emotion, heart, and action all have a starring role as this tempting tale unfolds. Already looking forward to the next book! I'm electing to post a impartial review.
Gaius and his brothers are sexy sexual vampires. Marechal just wants to keep her families company working and her siblings alive. Together they have sexual chemistry that literally flies though the pages of this book. Gaius thinks they can help each other in and out of the bedroom. I enjoyed the back and forth banter between them. I felt that this book dragged a little but I definitely enjoyed the story.
I enjoyed Gaius and Marachel’s story. It’s a great new twist on the vampire tale. Curses and prophecies & plenty of laughs. Great chemistry and I loved the ending.
This is another hot and sexy book in the series, Midnight Doms. I love vampire stories and this one keeps you turning the pages. Gaius is used to have any female he wants, sometimes 2 but when he meets Marechal, he can't get her off his mind. She's not a pushover and she is fiesty and sassy. The banter between them is wonderful. She just wants to save the family business and help her siblings but when Gaius and his brother pay off their debts, it's a new ballgame. I loved watching these two come to terms with their relationship. A very hot story so I suggest a fan and maybe some ice water!!
Because of his sire, Gaius is a bit tormented and very careful with the women he feeds from. He never sleeps with them and never plays with the same woman twice.
Marechal is the older sister and has been taking care of her siblings since her mother died and now her father as well. She is the boss, the woman in charge and doesn't take a lot of time for herself.
I knew from another book, Her Vampire Prince, that Gaius liked or was intrigued by Marechal. I was hoping they would get their own book so when I saw this one, I was super excited to read it. When Marechal finds out that Gaius or one of his brothers have acquired shares of her vineyard and she no longer has the controlling interest, she's really mad so she asks Gaius what he wants in order to get some of the shares back from him. Only she's not ready for what he wants, her. But she gives in because she's attracted to him in a way that she's not experienced before.
Gaius might be a dominant vampire but he's also a little broken from all the abuse from his sire. Even now that the sire is dead, he and his brothers, especially Virius don't let their guard down. It was a little sad to watch the way he waited for Marechal to hurt him because he wasn't sure that she wouldn't or wasn't awful like his sire. But it was also great to see how good Marechal was for him, I just wish we had more insight into their relationship. He never told her that he was scared or why and I thought that would have been nice to witness.
There was also this small side story about the vines on Gaius and his brothers vineyard that had some sort of curse on it and somehow Zahara and her people who I think are shifters, are involved in getting the curse lifted. But the story was quick and even though it looked like Virius might have found his mate in this side story, we don't get to see much of what's going on here. This story was thrown in, not completed and we were left with a huge cliffhanger in my eyes. I have looked for Virius's book but cannot for the life of me find it. But I will keep looking because his is the one that I want to read the most.
The storyline between Gaius and Marechal was completed but the story with the vines, curse and Zahara and Virius was left wide open. I didn't like how this book ended with such a wide storyline and can only hope that it leads to a spinoff series or some kind of conclusion in another book.
Gotta say who don't love them some sexy vampire? Ines Johnson brings you just that sexy Vampire, beautiful and sassy mortal in her newest release Her Vampire Lord.
Oh, Miss sassy and beautiful working hard at trying to keep her family business running, Marechal is all about her family and business she doesn't have time for males, she seems to think they're not worth it. Up until she meets Him.
Gaius well now that he's got that sexy Dom thing working for him, but he needs to put it in overtime if he thinks to draw Her in. The newest family member is so off-limits and not his style. *laughs* or so he tries to tell himself.
There's a little bit of cat and mouse going on with the business and her sister that has up and eloped and now nowhere to be seen. Well M, is just going to sit and wait.
Love the connection between these two, they both were like oh Nah, I have no time, not my type, not impressed, I'm just keeping her safe. Oh, the things they told themselves.
I so enjoyed this story it is a stand-alone, but part of a series. Ms. Johnson did her thang and now I'm going to have to get Her Vampire Prince and watch for the others the series to drop. Grab it and enjoy.
This is the first book in this series that I have read- and really enjoyed it. The story sure started with a lot if heat! There was enough back story and context details of the characters as the story progressed that I understood what was going on. Despite a connection through their siblings, Marechal and Gaius seemed so similar that it is no wonder that they were attracted. Gaius has a tormented past with “interesting” coping mechanisms. Marechal has been the head of her family and family business for so long that all other aspects of her life had been pushed aside. I appreciated the flashback snippets to see significant moments to understand why both Marechal and Gaius act and react in certain ways. I also loved the couple’s banter and attempts at negotiation. The suspense surrounding the curse/prophecy affecting the vineyard and the other supernatural beings revealed kept me reading on. I liked the HEA and found some details left unresolved-maybe for the next book? An enjoyable read.

Gaius and Marechal we met in Her Vampire Prince. Mare is Cari’s sister and Gaius is Hadrian brother. This was one story I know I was looking forward to. Mare is a strong woman and takes nothing from any man. She will never yield in submission. Gaius is plagued by dreams of his sire and her dominance. He will not allow her evil ways to pull him down.
I am so glad we get to find out the fate of Gaius and Marechal. These two are the strong members of their families. The perfect pair. With Cari on her honeymoon/new vamp powers, Mare is worried about her little sister. She doesn’t know that she has changed. And why is the vineyard on the Serrano land not growing. All that gets solved towards the end. Gaius has to strip away all those walls that Mare has to bring them both pleasure but also Mare needs to show him that comfort and love is possible. This is a sensual affair with lots of touching and learning. I am looking forward to reading about the third brother Viri and Zahara. These two should be interesting.
Gaius Serrano has spent most of his afterlife taking care of his sired family after the abuse they all suffered at the hands of their sadistic sire. Marechal Durand has spent most of her life taking care of her father and siblings after her mother passed. Both of them have developed walls and coping mechanisms that separate them from the more joyous things in life to keep them focused on the mounting responsibilities they carry. These two are drawn together almost like magnets after Gaius' brother falls in love with Marechals sister (Vampire Prince also by Ines Johnson). This story is theirs and it is AMAZING. The characters were perfect, their interludes were perfect. Gaius is sensual, cerebral, calculating... Marechal knows how to appreciate every nuance and I just sighed happily every time they got together. Ines Johnson writes so beautifully, I am honestly left in awe. Hoping for more ... there is a third Serrano...

This is Ines Johnson 2nd book in the Midnight Dom’s series and follows the Sonnaro Brothers.. This time Gaius has become jaded with is life as he can have any woman he wants but when to help out his new sister in law Cari, he buys a debt belonging to her family but when Cari’s sister Marechal arrives wanting to pay her vineyard’s debt Gaius just can’t stop thinking of her, and bargains for the repayment of the debt.... I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series and loved the little twists and turns that follow this story and while this is a stand-alone I think by reading the authors other book the Vampire Prince will give a better understanding of the characters in this story....
I thoroughly enjoyed Gaius and Marachel's story. It started out so steamy and kept getting hotter. I don't think I ever came up for air or food for that matter. Lol. Marachel is just trying to save her family's business which puts her right in the path of Gaius and the sexy Durand Brothers. Sorry this book was hit and so good.
I absolutely loved Gaius and Marachel's story. Marachel needs to save her family’s business and that’s when she meets Gaius. Gaius and Marachel’s chemistry is off the charts hot and steamy! I loved their connection and banter. A fantastic read and I definitely recommend it to everyone.
This story takes you just outside the Vampire/Shifter protected zone. Three vampire brothers, all sired by Domitia. They have been successful vintners for centuries. Now they own one suspiciously failing vineyard. When they ask the help of a new-ish member of their family, another vintner, all hell breaks loose! Old curses, rival shifters, new allies...., new love!
Not as good or hot as the 1st. This is erotica. Read on KU.
You will want to read the first book first. This book won't make sense otherwise. You don't need to read the bigger series, Midnight Doms, though.
As I anticpanticipated, I did not like Gaius as much as Hadrian. He wasn't as romantic. It took him much further into the book - pretty much the end - to realize he wants to be with Marechal forever. And it comes all of a sudden. For her, too. I did not like Marechal at all. But, I did go from disliking her to her just being OK. She is so standoffish and thinks sex is a waste of time. She spouts ridiculous facts about the female orgasm. She claims only 25% of women have them ever. There just wasn't much to her to like.
As mentioned in the blurb, she is trying to get back control of her company from Gaius and his brothers. The bet they made was confusing. And actually, I didn't think it was a bet. But I thought she got some shares on one condition it was the opposite. And that he even had her shares wasn't true and also made no sense. Hadrian was the one that purchased their debt. Purchasing debt generally means paying off other loans and the debtee then owes the new person. That doesn't mean the debtor owes shares in the company. While I suppose they could have put up shares as collateral, there was no mention of the previous owner of the debt having owned the shares. While this isn't really essential to the story outside of him getting her into bed, it just wasn't necessary and I think she could have found a much more plausible way to land her there. Maybe like she was just attracted to him? Which she was. Gaius also wouldn't have been able to give her anything since it was Hadrian who actually bought it. Again, none of this really matters but it could have just as easily be written in a way without these plot holes without making the book longer. I'd rather not have the side story if it is not well thought out.
This scenes in this book were closer to vanilla than bdsm. The only element of the latter was a little bondage. More elements are mentioned but none of it actually happens, with the exception of the very short scene the book opens on with two other women. And the H hasn't had intercourse in over a decade, so all but one scene skips that aspect. I much prefered the scenes in the first book. It was also surprising because Gaius seemed to be on the kinkier side than Hadrian.
The story with their vines not producing is discussed a few times and progress is made in that but it is carried over to the last book for conclusion. The third book is heavily set up in the last couple of chapters in this one.
There were some editing errors. Nothing major but they were noticeable. I also believe her French was incorrect when the h was speaking to her sister. She calls her mon something. When addressing a female in French, ma is used instead of mon. I also think she called her brother mon ami (my friend), which is weird. But I may have misunderstood who she was talking to.
I'm curious to see where the third book goes after the ending of this book. Virius may be the sub.
This series is a culmination of many authors, they’ve added a few to this series. Ines Johnson has also added a few, and I’ve got Her Vampire Lord. I get the feeling I might have to read the previous book “Her Midnight Prince” as both Gaius and Marechal’s siblings are in that one. When the book starts off with women fighting over their “Master” it’s either going to be a really good book, or one you wish you hadn’t bothered to pick up.... Gaius is a total player, or so he would like you to believe. He might bite and pleasure the many women that come to him, but he’s not had sex in years!! But with Marechal those feelings are being stirred up! And he’s not sure if he’s happy about that, it’s more the thrill of the chase and the ladies orgasms, than the actual deed! He doesn’t need a female like his brother, why have be when you can have many! Marechal has always been in charge, being the eldest sibling she promised her father she’d look after the business and her mother a promise to look after her sister, and so far she’s done both pretty well. But her father borrowed money from the wrong people, and now the business is in the hands of the wrong people! Then finding out that the Serrano family now owned her debt is just too much, Marechal is going to sort it and the eldest Serrano. Both MC’s are strong in character and have been responsible for looking after and keeping an eye out for for their respective family members, so both find it hard to relinquish their duties, and when these two come together it literally blows you away. It does make me chuckle, the poor vampire is fighting a losing battle when he helps Marechal save her business. He might say she is not for him, but his body and his heart and tells us a different story. We get little glimpses into his past life and his “sire” a mean and vicious woman, she tortured all her “children” and made them feel pleasure out of their pain! (So is that why Gaius never had sex after his sire died? Is she also the reason he won’t commit to just one woman? I enjoyed these characters and the ways they clashed, before they succumb and admit their feelings for one another. It’s definitely a battle of wills, and you have to wonder who will come out on top?! So can Marechal give up the reigns to her vampire lord? Is it all about the shares he holds, or is it the taste of the dark features So..... it was better than I thought it would be. I’m definitely interested in reading the other brother’s stories.
This is book 10 in the Midnight Dom Series (multiple authors), it is also book 2 in Dark Vintage Vampire Series, a 3 book series all written by Ines Johnson. While I will no doubt try more authors in the Midnight Dom Series, I sought out this book for the author. I recently read a short story, which ties in to this 3 book series, in All Souls Night (anthology). That novella tells the story of Arneis, the brother of the heroine in books 1 & 2. I really wanted to learn more about him so I grabbed the books with his sisters.
I liked the strong boss female character but she was a bit stereotypical of a strong female looking to free herself of the weight of the world through BDSM. I liked the previous brother’s story more than this one.
Here’s why I knocked off 2⭐️…
First, just like the first book I read, the steam level was weak. This book had a tiny bit more story to it than the first book but not enough to carry a non-steamy storyline. (I expect weak storylines when the book is mostly smut but these books had weak storylines plus not much steaminess).
Second ⭐️ was knocked off for the slutty male hero. It’s one thing to know the hero was a man-whore BEFORE, but it’s something else when several of the chapters detail him getting off other women. Yuck. There’s WAY TOO MUCH talk about the sexual things he does with other females. I think I’m supposed to be okay with it because of the damaged hero and how he was not emotionally attached to these other women…but still… ick…
I really want to find out what happens to the last brother but on the same hand, I’m not looking forward to hearing about all the horrors and trauma he was subjected to. I guess the series was ok since I’m still interested in the final brother but really, it just feels like the story is unfinished with things the way they are (he has been willingly kidnapped by shifters). It’s unlikely I will read more from this author; I’m looking for both more sexy times and more/ better plot lines than this series.
The story of Gaius and Marechal, the outcome isn't expected. It's exciting when they both start their game, one of not giving up the power and control the other playing catch and release. It is exciting because they fall for each other's game without knowing at first. SPOILER alert: love that two families become a united family. They are learning to accept the truths of who everyone is. Would have like another chapter 35, to see what happens the night after finding out the truth. How they deal with this new turn of event. How will the become a united family? I would have liked an epilogue to know the future outcome of this two new lovers, does he turn her? Will he marry her before turning her? How does it happen? Would like to know who will write the story of Zahara and Virius? I'd love to know how his to story unfolds. Would like to know a little more about this Virius, he has appeared in two stories. And who is Zahara? How does Zahara come to be in the Durand's winery farm? SPOILER alert: About the prophecy? " How does it involves Zahara and Virius? What of the prophecy? "... the prophecy is a step beyond virginal sacrifice. It requires the birth of a child as well. ' You know vampires can't have children?' Zahara respond with "Shows how much you know." What does she mean? Need to know about the prophecy and how can vampires have baby's? Another book to the series.

A simply amazing next chapter in this book series This was a simply stunning read and there is not a lot I can say as I do not want to give away the plot, the characters were simply stunning and as always the actual plot had been so well delivered that once you started reading it was simply impossible to put down once you began reading. The hero of this story is Marius and he is an ancient vampire that has seen untold horrors in his life after being under the thumb of a vicious sire, he and his two brothers have been left scarred mentally and psychologically and it has only been in recent years they have started to interact with other around them, shifter, vampire and also humans who know of their existence and those that are totally oblivious to the darker aspects of life. Marechial has run the vineyard before the death of her father, she also singlehandedly raised her younger sister since birth and her brother without any help and had put her life totally on hold and now has been solely focused on reacquiring the shares of the vineyard and paying off debts her brother and father had allowed to build up regardless she is quite the tough cookie and Marius finds himself totally enthralled by her. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
How does author Johnson do so well creating such vulnerable vampires? They are outlined so well that you feel the emotional pull on every page. This is Gaius' story, the oldest vampire brother of three very traumatized souls who are still recovering from interactions with their dead sire. I love how Gaius and Mare tend to look at everything through the lens of a wine grape vine.
" The color of her eyes reminds me of Kyoho grape: a dark, black-purple fruit that appears fathomless. When you bite into the fruit, it’s pure sweetness, like plum wine. "
These two are attracted to one another, probably for the same reason...each allows a life outside of taking care of the family. I adore the way Johnson worked up Mare's interest in bondage, and it all made sense without being cliche. And there was a very funny part that eased the tension. I liked that Johnson added it, because the vampire brothers were undoubtedly suffering from PTSD for paranormal beings, and we as the reader needed a lighter moment.
The moments with Virius were truly heartbreaking, especially when Gaius realizes just how traumatized he really was. I desperately hope we get a book for him.
Johnson has eased into this series smoothly, and has done some great research to create a well oiled story with compelling characters
What I liked most about Her Vampire Lord was the maturity and growth of its protagonists. Of course, maturity is a funny word to use with an ages-old vampire like Gaius, but he’s actually stuck, arrested in the aftermath of the death of his vengeful sire and keeper, a demoness who tortured Gaius and his vampire brothers for hundreds of years. He still can’t shake her now that’s she’s dead, either from his dreams or with his absolute resistance to connect with any woman. That is, until he meets Marechal.
I loved how Gaius and Marechal form their own unique bond. While this book is part of the Midnight Doms series focused on Club Toxic, that setting really doesn’t come into play in Her Vampire Lord, and I really liked that. I think it would have been a forced fit with these characters, and I appreciated how Johnson let them evolve in their own way, focused on the vineyards that are their professional world.
I did wonder why Marechal never questioned in her night meetings with Gaius, and there was some awkward language at certain points. But Marechal is someone who’s sublimated her life to care of her family and the family vineyard, so seeing her grow to recognize her own needs was fantastic. Both Marechal and Gaius need to let go of preconceptions, and it makes for a great journey in Her Vampire Lord.
I downloaded this book as a reader review, and I would have loved to high-five it. The premise sounds good, the story seems well-written. Matter of fact, there is a huge back-story I fell into.
Mareschal is a unique and interesting name. As the owner and manager of a vineyard, she must fight daily against male's sense of superiority while attempting to bring her vineyard out of the debt her father collected. Her brother is no help and wants her to sell. When she hears that Gaius's family bought the debt, she is naturally infuriated and scared of losing control of her inheritance.
Queue Gaius: sex-starved. Obsessed with her even while *ahem* servicing others. Now I admit sometimes I need a little help in getting into the mood, but I never really expect to see sex graphically described by the second chapter. The playboy aspect and dark, tall and mysterious works for me. The insta-sex and talk about ropes: not so much.
However, you might love this story. It is steamy. It features a strong women who is willing to let herself relax when tied down and taken away from her duties. The guy seems hot...and the plot seems planned and not simply a way to reach the sex part faster.
4.75 stars This is the tenth book in the Midnight Dom series and it is one succulent read. In some ways it is like watching water boil as it gives off a slow burn with regards to the pairing of Gaius and Marechal. Each character has his own appeal that entices readers further into the story and as it begins with a bang, there is no stopping once begun. Gaius is a Vampire who is the epitome of a womanizer as he has no feeling towards the women he uses, except when it comes to Marechal. Marechal is the care taker of her family and that means watching over her brother and younger sister while running the family’s vineyard. She rarely takes time for herself and the pace of her life is wearing on her. When a surprise business acquisition comes to light, Marechal goes right to the source and things begin to get frisky. This is one heat filled storyline with a tough as nails female lead who shows her true self when she comes up against a man that is worthy of her and a man who realizes a truth that he may not have wanted to face. This is one fabulous addition to the series and I look forward to the next installment. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.
This books is about Marechal and Gaius, both whom we meet earlier in the series. Gaius is Hadrian’s brother and Marechal is Cari’s sister. Hadrian and Cari are newly wed vampires with Cari being a newbie vamp herself. Gaius is an ancient vampire, a survivor from the torture at the hand of his sire who was a demented female vampire that only sought pleasure from causing immense pain. Because of this he has issues with women. He does not play with the same female more than once and has restrictions that keep him distanced from women. He only seeks pleasure and nothing else. However, Marechal has ensnared him. At first it was a game of sorts, something that he thought would quickly end. However he finds it harder and harder to keep away from her. Marechal has only one goal in life; to run her family business and make it the successful enterprise it once was. Soon she becomes entangled in a world that holds secrets and dangers. Little does she know what awaits in the hands of the experienced master vampire who will do anything to make Marechal his forever.
I know there was a book about the Serrano brothers before this, but I didn't read it and was able to follow the basic story with out missing anything. This book focuses on Marechal the owner of the family vineyard and Gaius the Vamp that has a vineyard of his own, but it isn't doing so well, seems his land is cursed. Marechal's sister Cari married Gaius's brother Hadrian and to save Cari's life, he changed her. Cari is now a young vamp and her hunger for blood is uncontrollable. I love this stuff. Gaius and Marechal get together when Mare is looking for her sister and angry that Gaius bought her vineyard's debt. She knows nothing about vampires but sure knows there's a strong attraction to the handsome and secretive Gaius. They make a deal and that brings them together in some hot, sexy, mild kink. I loved how Marechal doesn't believe that women actually orgasm and Gaius takes that challenge to show her how wrong she is, HOT!!! I enjoyed this story and hope to see brother Varius with Zahara in their own book, tell me they have a future please!
