I agree with another reviewer who said this book is an excellent base for either cooking for 2 or a slow cooking. There were several recipes I walked out with, but as I was reading this book, it had a very dumbed down feeling to me. While this book could be used for newlyweds, I saw it much more as being for empty nesters.
There were roughly 10 recipes per section and 6 sections. On that note, I did grab this book on special and it was worth the cost. I would not have paid the full price the publisher was asking.
This one was pretty good. I pulled several recipes out of it, though there were a few in there I wondered why you would bother with the slow cooker, like the spaghetti recipe. You cook the meat and onions and garlic in the sauce pan and cook the spaghetti in a pot, why bother with the slow cooker when you could just continue with the few remaining ingredients and have it all done in 30 minutes??? You already spent 20 boiling the water and brown the beef...one less thing to clean.
Anyhow, not bad. It's nice to see recipes for smaller portions (you can adjust the larger recipes easily enough though).
I tried this out on Kindle Unlimited first to see if we would like the recipes. They sound so good my husband wants a spiral bond copy of the book. I have bookmarked quite a few of the recipes we want to try. There are a few ingredients I couldn't find at the local grocery, like yellow curry paste (they had green and red but no yellow) so I ordered some from Amazon. I don't know what some of the items required for chicken mole are but I'm sure I could find them online if needed. But most of the recipes call for common ingredients that will be easy to find. I'm looking forward to trying lots of the food covered in this book.
Helpful information for smaller slow cooker servings
There is plenty to like about this little book. Besides the variety of recipes, you will find helpful information on making servings for two people and the health benefits of cooking at lower temperatures. There are even ten tips for cooking together harmoniously with your mate. 💓 I will be referring back to this book for many of the recipes.
I’m always looking for recipes for just the 2 of us and have gotten into using the crockpot more lately. This was just what I was looking for. A lot of the recipes have some prep work involved, but I did find a few recipes here where you throw everything in and go. 😊
Many of these recipes have the same flavor, but the ideas are good for a base guide.
If you're interested in this book, I'd suggest adding some extra spices (and more salt! Everything in here is low sodium, and it's definitely noticeable) to mix things up a bit.
Enjoyed the first 2 recipes I tried. Very satisfying and delicious. Uses pantry available ingredients and provides excellent instructions for the proper use of a small crock pot.
This cookbook is informative without being wordy. The best part is the fact the recipes are simple with ingredients that are easy to obtain and taste good. How fantastic is that!
As always, I wish I could find more recipes that can be cooked 8-9 hours without drying out or getting mushy. Takes me that long to get back home from work.
Everyone of us has had a day or two where we had to cook for only one or two people. This book has great recipes, easy to follow instructions and great examples.
Cooking small quantities for two is challenging, especially in a slow cooker. This book has delicious recipes with common ingredients found in most kitchens. I look forward to cooking from this book.
Many of the recipes call for cooking before putting in the crockpot. I use my crockpot to quickly put together a main dish before leaving for work, so I am not looking for cooking first and then placing in crockpot.
There is one breakfast dish that takes 7 hours and I want to try that. So many breakfast dishes cook for 4 hours, I hope to sleep longer than that. I am pleased when I find a breakfast crockpot dish that cooks overnight.
I loved the variety of recipes which were also easy to prepare. The suggestions of what to have with the dishes were helpful. There were also good tips and suggestions. I liked that this was for two, because I usually follow a recipe and often have much leftovers.
Wanted something for smaller portions and seems pretty good. Aside variety too, including some vegetarian (or that could be with minor adaptation, same for gluten free). Seems good for two people, when you don't want to make five quarts of something.
