This sucked me into the story so deeply, I kind of don’t know what to say now. Most of what I think I want to share would land me firmly into “spoiler” territory. Kyle and Cami made an incredible team. Sass, snark, sexual tension; they had it all in spades. And it kept me madly flipping pages to discover what would happen next. A lot of this author’s work has a hefty dose of humor, but I felt like this book took it up a notch from anything I’ve read by her before. That parting shot? Bright heavens, I still haven’t recovered my breath from laughing so hard. I’m fast falling in love with all the kooky characters that make up this newest team in HEAT. I can’t wait until we get to do this again.

Me all the way thru this book—if the dogs don’t make it I’m gonna riot. And not a good riot. 🤣

I went into this book blind…come to find out I have book one of the HEAT series marked as wanting to read on here.
But…book two—Kyle and Cami. It was a fast read. And normally while ‘instalove’ isn’t usually my thing, this was a whirlwind from chapter one. It sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down.

Cami, small town vet, goes to extract a poor, abused pup and unknowingly steps in the middle of a clusterfck.
Waiting for a mysterious, anonymous animal rescuer so she can pass off the abused pup is where she meets Kyle. And while he’s mysterious yes, he’s most definitely NOT the contact she was meant to meet for the pup rescue.
Turns out, Kyle? Member of an elite, covert government agency. Double whammy? By removing the abused pup, Cami unknowingly lands herself in the middle of a smuggling ring.

I was 100% shocked at the ending. The smuggler’s accomplice was one I didn’t even bother adding to my mental list of possibilities.
There’s still some unresolved work this HEAT has to finish. So I’m ready to see how the rest of the series plays out. (And I will have to go back to read Ben’s story in book 1)

Cami loves all animals, which given her job as a vet it's understandable. When she decides to rescue a very under nourished sick puppy to hand it over to a secret pet rescue team, she didn't know how much it would impact her life. Kyle is always on high alert. So when a gorgeous woman suddenly approaches him telling him to hurry up and is carrying a very sick looking dog, which he couldn't make out if it was alive or not he just acted as though he understood. Now thrown together through misunderstandings this is the start of a very compelling, heartbreaking, mysterious yet steamy and romantic story. The camaraderie between Kyle and the team he works with is one of trust, honesty and reliability on each team member. The problem is Cami doesn't trust easily and has always been independent and the one looking out for everybody else. Can she trust the handsome man especially as she knows he's hiding something, but then again so is she. I loved how Bella brought everybody together and recovered well from her ill treatment. This is definitely a book you won't put down once you start it and I can't wait for the next in this series

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Kyle & Cami: {triggers- drug trafficking, animal abuse, blackmail, sexual extortion, kidnapping.) Interesting concept. Cami is a veterinarian and she comes across a dog that is emaciated and scared. She takes the dog and hands it off to a man who helps her get away. Turns out the dog had been living a bad life in a possible dog fighting ring. When she finds a surprise inside the dog, the police and FBI get involved. Kyle works for a security company. It was pure luck he was there to help the pretty doctor. When she tells him of her findings, all hell breaks loose and he will protect her and the sweet dog with his life. The story is slow at times but it was definitely a different look at trafficking that I never even considered. The book has some hot moments and a few funny moments but this is all drama all the time with a little bit of spice. I actually enjoyed it but I have to admit it took me longer than expected to read because the slow points were a little dry. I also found an error in the book.

A humorous romance with some sizzle. Cami is in the midst of rescuing a dog in distress out from under the nose of her abuser when she mistakes Kyle for her animal rescue contact. Kyle gets caught up in his attraction to the beautiful petite blonde he hopes isn’t an enemy agent.

Thankfully, the dog rescue and plight of abused animals wasn’t front and center of the storyline so it isn’t super triggering; however, it is a sensitive subject. It’s handled a serious matter and part of the HEAT team’s active case.

Cami and Kyle have an instant connection that grows into something more due to their attraction and prolonged close proximity. Several HEAT team members are secondary characters that get plenty of attention and will likely be future romantic leads in the series.

Wow..this book is so well written you will not be able to put it down until the last page. It is a very quick read with an amazing storyline and character. There are some triggers so beware. This story is full of dog abuse, secrets from both main characters, drugs, addiction, treachery and the men of Heat are a found family and are aptly named. The characters are written with great description and you will feel like your there with them. Cami and Kyle have alot of work to do before they can even think of a HEA but they have spice on their side. Kyle is a big protective teddy bear and perfect to protect the dogs and vet staff. Bella is one of my favorite characters. This author definitely had fun writing the book full of sass, snarky comments and laughter. This is my first time reading this author and it will not be the last.
You will enjoy this book.

I have read several books by this author in the prior HEAT series, but have now received both of the ARCs from this new HEAT series too! This book was a quick read for me and I really enjoyed it. It revisits many of the characters that appear in the earlier books and series. In this case, logistics operative, Kyle is in the right place in what turns out to be the right time. Veterinarian Cami Vaughn thinks she is handing off an abused dog, but learns the man and what happened to the dog is not what she thinks.
When Kyle and Cami are properly introduced, they learn that there is more to the abused pets she is trying to save and that has put her in danger. This brings Kyle and the HEAT team in to keep her safe and work with the proper authorities to take care of this animal ring. Good story and fun new characters added to the HEAT world.

Mr Tall, dark & loves dogs!

As you can see from the cover, the main male character is a hunk. Not only is he hot, but he's a secret agent and an animal lover! He helped the main female character, Cami, rescue an abused staffy and then protects her and the dog from the villan who's dog it was. As he protects them the passion heats up between these two strangers brought together through fate.

I loved how there was a dog and dog rescue in this and how the characters cared so much for the dog & the happy ending.

If you're an animal and romance lover, give this book a go. I hope you like as much as me!

This was an awesome book! Fast paced and romantic as!

This was about Vet Cami who happens upon a dog trafficking ring and the undercover operative Kyle who helps her when trouble goes after her.

The romance is very alive under all the drama and Action in this book. Kyle and Cami have the best rapport although they definitely didn't initially, they had to warm up to each other, well Cami did anyway.

So well done, I truly enjoyed the Spark between them and the catchy dialogue. The plot was spot on and so involving. The writing was fast and slick and very hard to put down. Just amazing!!

This is a must read.
Cami is a vet in a small town but when she uncovers a dog trafficking ring she is in danger.
When a case of mistaken identity brings her face to face with a handsome man she unknowingly has the help she needs.
There is an instant attraction between Kyle and Cami but can she trust him when he's keeping secrets from her.
I loved how they were together and he will do anything to keep her and the dog they saved safe but can they get to the bad guys before it all turns bad.
Full of so much drama and suspense but also so much love and friendship.
Can't wait for the next book.

Starts off with making my blood boil and then followed by really good laugh

Animal abuse alert, absolutely offsides behaviour and Cami will do anything to save an animal of such abuse. Kyle was in the right place and the right time to save both a dog and Cami.

This sets in motion events that Cami never envisaged would happen; threats to her life, drug smuggling, building a lifelong relationship with Kyle.

Rip roaring adventure, more steam than found in a sauna, love & a HEA.

If you like this genre, it's an easy, quick, humorous read.

Received as an ARC and leaving my honest review voluntarily. Loved this fast paced easy to read story that had suspense, action, steam, well developed likeable characters and dogs (who doesn't love dogs)!! Of course reading about the plight of the dogs just set me off but it all works out so I'm happy with the outcome. The connection between Kyle and Cami was sweet and steamy and aside from some initial resistance on Cami's part, it was generally easy and conflict free, with a steamy HEA in the downloadable epilogue.

This is the 1st book from this series that I have read, I have enjoyed getting to know all the characters and seeing the HEAT team in action. I loved how they first met and how they met again, I believed in their connection and chemistry and had everything crossed that they make it through to their HEA. I enjoyed the different relationships, the support shown, the banter, the love and the new team mascot. I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving an ARC from Hidden Gems.

Loved the men of HEAT. The plot was interesting. The group dynamic amongst the team was entertaining.

Not a big fan of Cami. She had too many hang-ups. Kyle was too accommodating, in my opinion. I like my men a bit more alpha and my women a bit less indecisive and cranky.

Story had an HEA. There is an overarching story line that has the HEAT team chasing after some very bad people. That thread is interesting and will continue in the next story.

Really loveeee how this Heativerse Series is shaping up ... woww !! Loved Believing Ben BK 1 and now Keeping Kyle Bk 2 was really a dream. Love that Cami and Kyle hit it off from the very beginning and both knew what they wanted from each other, no twisty turns except for Kyle's vows to keep Cami and her favourite furry friends safe from dirty wicked humans. ...... Kudos to you Ms Cross !!!

Heart warming story. Cami, vet and notorious rescuer of abused dogs. Kyle, rescuer of people and working covertly with an agency called HEAT, is mistaken for someone else during one of Cami’s rescues. Cue: immediate attraction, and they are perfect for each other along with Bella the dog they rescued. There’s action, both good and dangerous as Kyle and his organization keep Cami safe. Well written and a book that was a great read. I received this book as an arc from Hidden Gems and I am voluntarily submitting my review.

Harper Cross is a new author for me and I loved this book. I now have to go back and read book 1 in this series.

Cami is a vet who cannot stand to see any animal abused so she gets involved with taking a poor dog from a pet store and running with it. She is supposed to meet up with an unknown person who will take the dog, but she ends up getting into Kyle's truck believing he is the person she is supposed to hand off the dog to.

Her and Kyle end up taking the poor dog to her clinic where she has everyone leave and performs surgery on the dog and is surprised to find drugs inside the poor little one.

Kyle gets the FBI involved as he works for a security company. Cami ends up at Kyle's house with the pup as she is now in danger as whoever had the dog will be looking for it.

As usual there is a twist, romance and danger and I did find this a good read.

When mistaken identity leads you to the best thing that ever happened to you, you hang on tight with both hands. Loved this read, and the best character of course is the dog. Such a sweety, you can’t help but fall for him/her LOL
I’m loving the titles in this series too, a nice reverse on the usual protector book title.

I loved the start of this story with the way Cami rescued the dog and the mistaken identity with Kyle. I smiled the whole time. The rest of the story was a page turner with lots happening at a good pace and the twist at the end surprised me, I did not see that coming.
The support characters in the vet clinic were very entertaining.

I absolutely enjoyed this fast paced suspense filled romance. I am going to have to go back and read the book before! Well written story kept me turning the pages with wonderful characters, stealth, humor, sweetness, evil, undeniable chemistry, team brotherhood, strong women, protective men, and so much more. Does deal with dog endangerment, drugs, and addiction so know your triggers. Great read.

I really enjoyed this book. It literally had everything I like in a book! Romance, suspense, dog rescues, humor, and a hero that always comes to the rescue. Cami is so brave to go to the length that she did to rescue a dog in need, even when she was terrified. I felt like Kyle fell hard for Cami at first sight! I loved the story. Cami owns her own veterinary clinic, and she is helping to save an abused dog when she meets Kyle. He helps her escape the man she stole the dog from at the pet store. She finds drugs sewn in to the animal and removes them. Kyle agrees to be Bella's (dog) owner and wants Cami also. There adventure begins. Some suspense, action and romance. Very well written story. Not a dull moment or any lag in the storyline. I enjoyed getting to know the characters, the intensity and suspenseful elements are add angst without being overdone. Ms Cross touched base on a very realistic issue in Keeping Kyle that put veterinarian Cameron Vaughn in the crosshairs of the bad guys and running into Kyle for assistance was the best thing that could have happened to her. If I needed a support system, I would want Kyle’s HEAT friends and Cami’s vet friends to be with me! Recommended read. #harpercross #keepingkyle

I love animals and don't like to see any of them being abused. Cami loves her job as a vet and can't stop herself from doing what she does next.
