This psychological thriller is a real mind twister!
Really quick and easy read. It was a bit tricky to follow at times with the different characters. The idea was clever and I enjoyed the ending. I just feel the bits after the main story had come to a conclusion were a bit unnecessary and not clearly explained but overall it was a good idea.
The concept of this book was unique, but the execution was poor. Underdeveloped characters, full of editorial mistakes, and the same writing pattern repeated throughout.
This futuristic crime fiction story gave me minority report, hunger games, and demolition man vibes at the outset. It's a very imaginative tale.
The depictions of how the crimes committed are extracted from the perpetrator's minds, and the interesting methods for punishment make for a great story.
However, I found the interactions between the hospitalised characters very childlike, and none of them had any likeable character traits. This seemed so out of kilter with the rest of the book. Please persevere at this point; without ruining the plot, all becomes clear!
The ultimate twist is fantastic, and this was such an original, well-executed tale. It would make for a magnificent Netflix box set. It's a really short story, and my only complaint would be that I'd have liked more.
2084" by Julie Clark is a compelling dystopian novel that immerses readers in a meticulously crafted future reminiscent of George Orwell's "1984." In this transformed world, traditional concepts of justice have vanished; prisons no longer exist as a means of punishment, replaced by a pervasive surveillance state that enforces compliance through fear and control. Instead of normal incarceration, offenders must endure the pain of their victims, a chilling mechanism that underscores the regime's brutal philosophy and the loss of humanity. It’s a quick read that I couldn’t put down, driven by a gripping narrative and thought-provoking themes.
Absolutely loved this fast moving , gripping twisty debut novel, unputdownable and a brilliant twist that I didn't see coming at the end . Look forward to reading more of this brilliant authors books
