Gamebreakers #2

Heartbreaker

Rate this book
She was just supposed to be a one-night stand…

But then she became my world.

Once, I was the lead guitarist of the hit rock band, Midnight Sun. Then a tragic accident took everything from me. I can no longer play guitar, my wife left me, and the future I worked so hard for is slipping away.

All I am now is a grumpy, infamous, former rockstar.

So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’m not in the market for a woman, especially not Jade Cantrell—who’s as beautiful and talented as she is sweet.

Then the media pounces on a story about the two of us, and suddenly we’re zipping off to a mountain retreat and writing an album together.

I can’t keep it strictly business—no matter how hard I try.

And the more I get to know her, the more I know I don’t have any hope of keeping her out of my heart.

One night will never be enough.

I'm going to keep her forever.

When the Game Breakers meet more than hearts will be broken…

They’ll claim, protect, and...maybe just rock their women's worlds.

Heartbreaker is the second book in the Gamebreakers Series, it could be read as a standalone.

This is the story of Jade Cantrell and Royal Ewing, a country music rising star the first, and a former rock star the latter. Their journey is a whirlwind of emotions, it starts with a work collaboration then it becomes something more when they discovers a great affinity and a sizzling chemistry.

I loved Jade and Royal, the grumpy for sunshine trope was masterfully executed by these authors.
I liked Jade's initial awkwardness in Royal's presence, it makes their relationship more relatable. I appreciated how supportive they are of each other, Royal advices of the show business are so precious for Jade, and her gentle pushing Royal to come out of hiding and to start living again is just what he needs.

I've enjoyed this novel, and I will definitely pick up next book in the series because I have to find out what happens next with this group of friends.

Awesome Rock Romance

I love these two authors and they sure knocked it out of the park on this rock romance. He was the bad boy rock star and she was the good girl country star but their worlds meshed when Royal’s song, that he wrote and Jade sang, received the song of the year award.

Royal had every reason to be the broody rock star with everything that had happened to him but that was about to change when the talented country star turned his world upside down. I absolutely loved watching these two connect on so many levels.

Would Royal realize soon enough that it was time to start his life again or risk losing Jade? This was a real page turner and I devoured every minute of it.

This is the second book in this series and this is Royal and Jade’s story.
Royal is a former rockstar and is a talented songwriter, who after a tragic accident, lost everything as he could no longer play guitar and his wife left him, so he is living the life of a recluse. Jade is a talented and sweet country music star, and she and Royal end up snowed in a cabin together.
This is a well written easy to read story, which has found family, friendships, emotions, grumpy / sunshine, forced proximity, challenges, humor, witty banter, healing, friends / lovers, and love, which leads to an entertaining, spicy, and twisted, captivating addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from these talented authors’ whose work I highly recommend.

Royal, a former rock star, and Jade, a rising country singer, connect instantly. Their relationship faces highs and lows as Royal struggles with his past and almost loses Jade, who loves him for himself. Jade remains strong and would not stand by while he tried to put her down.

Their bond is a once in a life time thing, and letting it slip through your fingers is not an option. Royal is determined to move heaven and earth to make it up to her. Groveling is a must and grovel he did. I loved the fact that she stood firm on her conditions if they wanted to work. Their HEA proves true love can overcome obstacles no matter how high they might seem.

Absolutely loved Royal's story. Since this is book 2 in the series and I read book 1, I could tell Royal would be quite the story. I wonder if his heeling will be pieced together more in the rest of the series. Also, cannot wait for the next book.
Jade and him fit together perfectly. Royal has/had a lot to get through with his past. And Jade seems to be the perfect solution to his future. She also has some things to over come and has Royal help her there as well.
So good!

Kat Mizera and Elsie Faber were on my list of new to me authors I wanted to read for RARE London.
I only read "grumpy, infamous, former rockstar" and I was sold :-)

I had so much fun reading this book. I loved the whole dynamic, not only of the characters but the story itself. Can't wait to read more in this series!

Universal

Former rockstar guitarist Royal doesn't really want to be here at this awards ceremony, but the song he wrote for budding country star, Jade, is up for an award, and he should be in the audience for support. He had no way of knowing their attraction would be so much that they'd end up spending a night together that should have remained at just a night, and would have, had they not been tasked to work together again. Now they're in close proximity in a secluded cabin and those feelings are coming to the surface along with a genuine friendship developing. But if Jade and Royal want to make a real relationship work, they both, especially Royal, need to do a lot of healing and growth first.

Heartbreaker packs a serious emotional punch! Jade and Royal's journey is winding and fraught with turmoil, especially as Royal starts to heal. But the sweet ending is definitely a reward for the heartbreak they go through. Jade is the real standout for me in this story - she's a ray of sunshine, one with a strong backbone, who doesn't let people steamroll her. Royal, grumpy, tortured Royal, took longer for me to connect with than I did with Jade, but he redeems himself finally near the end, and Jade is right there with him, even though he was pretty awful to her at one point. I'm loving this hockey series, the found family and the friendships all the guys have. I'm impatiently waiting for Dash's story next, Dealbreaker. I have a strong feeling it's going to be just as emotionally gut wrenching as Heartbreaker.

Heartbreaker is book two in the Gamebreakers series by Kat Mizera and Elise Faber. I haven’t read these authors before and thought their writing styles worked well together. It’s a really enjoyable rockstar romance between Jade Cantrell and Royal Ewing. She’s the country music sweetheart and he’s the bad boy of rock and roll with a heartbreaking past. A grumpy/sunshine, friends to lovers, emotional story about healing and redemption.

“When there’s no one but you and me, girl.”

Since his accident two years ago, Royal has been finding life difficult and lives as a recluse. He is still trying to come to terms with his injury, losing his career as the lead guitarist for Midnight Sun and an ugly divorce. He reluctantly attends an award ceremony to support Jade as the song he wrote for her is up for Song of the Year. When she wins he is captivated and attracted to her. He finds a quiet place to overcome a panic attack but it turns out to be Jade’s room and when she surprises him, everything changes for him with one smile from her.

Jade is kind, smart and sassy. Royal’s song has changed her life and she is now a worldwide star. She can’t believe how handsome he is and is inexplicably drawn to the enigmatic and mysterious rockstar. The sparks fly between them which leads to a one night stand. With some mischievous help from Frankie, his goddaughter, they meet up again. Misunderstanding over comments she made, results in some funny banter and bickering as she stands up to him. This leads to them going away to co-write but they end up getting snowed in.

Royal is all broody and grumpy to her sunshine and smiles. He is terrified of his feelings for her as their friendship grows, confused she would want a broken and scarred man. He is full of anger and grief over what he has lost. Although has a found family with the guys, she realises he’s as lonely as she is. She’s positive there’s a nice guy underneath his cranky exterior. I loved how they talked, wrote the songs and helped each other.

They have to face media problems, betrayal and startling revelations that really affect their relationship. Royal lashes out, hurting the people he loves. Insults and hurtful words are exchanged as he pushes her away, leaving her heartbroken. I’m not a fan of a third act break up but understood the reasons behind this one. Royal was overwhelmed with so many revelations and realisations, that it was an awful lot for him to cope with and in situations like this, you always take it out on the ones you love.

“Time to write the music of the rest of our lives.”

Will he let the darkness overwhelm him and end up without Jade or will he fight and convince her to forgive him? I hadn’t met the game breaker guys before but loved their teasing and look forward to reading more about them all. Briar and Aspen were two supportive to Jade and Frankie is adorable. We are left with a worrying cliffhanger over what has happened to Dash after a security incident. Dealbreaker #3 coming soon.

This book was so deliciously grumpy sunshine ,divine…. An infamous grumpy ex rockstar lead guitarist once of Midnight Sun band. He on the guitar was grand. He can no longer play guitar though now after a tragic accident took away the lot ,everything he had ,it went that bad , his hand maimed , even his wife walked out the door. Could he possibly take anymore?! Get the idea? He’s not looking for love ,a new woman ? Bah! No thank you! But then comes along Jade Cantrell and he likes her we can tell . Royal wrote her a song and she sang , a big hit! She’s adorably cute and beautiful, talented .She’s the good Country Rockstar him the bad boy of Rock . When the media grab ahold ,they take stock.A mountain retreat is where they flock ,writing an album together and it actually does rock. They’re snowed in ! Let their story begin.. No ,he cannot keep it business no matter how he does try. Because this forbidden friend is going to be his lover ,a proper under the covers affair . Close proximity gives them the opportunity and they grasp with all hands even his damaged one as demands are met with a heavy pet or two I’m sure . Isn’t that what Friends to lovers one night stand demands and so much more are for? An encore ,a forevermore . Well they do say let music be the language of love and this sure stands in this regard. Even though it was never on the cards ,their inhibitions they do discard and the music is their’s to write their next chapter. He’s as protective as a lion and it’s so darn cute . Who’d have thought this of the bad boy Rocker ,they’d say you were off your rocker! But this Country lass and just as I imagine has him panting for more. I do adore this book ,it has everything ,go take a look. The delightful prose ,the descriptors and those two characters! Phew 😮‍💨 heaven it is. Bliss.

God, watching Royal fall was a treat. A fucking TREAT because he clearly knew what was happening from second one. He tried so hard not to fall and then… just didn’t.

I really appreciate how patient Jade was with him, how she understood where his hang ups were. But I also really appreciate that she stood up for herself. When he left her hotel room, she made it clear she wasn’t going to take his crap about how she handled the fall out. When he effed up by saying things he really shouldn’t have, she left. And when he apologized, she made it clear that it was his one time second chance: that it was not ok to treat her that way and she wouldn’t stand for it again.

But I also really liked that Royal helped her learn how to navigate her fame a bit better. He helped her understand how to have a close knit group of people who understood you and looked out for your best interest. Which made it even better when he did something shitty and none of those people abandoned her for him. They continued to stand by her like friends should.

I adored seeing the chosen family unit they’ve created. They’re top notch, well ingrained which makes me so much more invested in their stories when they happen.

My only hang up was the proposal. IDK I was annoyed and felt like she was put on the spot and kinda gave in too easily to him. “OMG HE PROPOSED SO OF COURSE ALL IS FORGIVEN!” 🙄 And while they DID hash it out after the fact, I still kind of felt like he put her in a spot (also, who proposes after a fight YOU caused before taking or reconciling? It feels like a manipulation.)

On a totally separate (spoilery) note…. We all know Colt is Frankie’s father right? Like, there is no way he’s not her father. I thought it the last book and I think it even more now.

Really excited to continue this series and see where it goes.

Heartbreaker is book 2 in the Gamebreakers series and features country singer sensation, Jade, and former lead guitarist, rocker turned recluse, Royal. These two will have to navigate trigger situations that will challenge them personally and as a couple.

Heartbreaker opens, and closes, at an awards show, but what happens in between will keep you on your toes emotionally.

Jade is a singing sensation who is making her mark on the country music world. While attending the awards show, she receives multiple surprises, least of which is meeting the songwriter for her latest hit, Royal.

Royal has had enough of the awards show and needs to leave immediately before a panic attach sets in. Since his date is Briar, his assistant, who knows his limits, she arranges for a quiet room for him to escape to while she calls for the car to take them home.

Royal has become a recluse after circumstances re-routed his life. But when Jade invites him to a private party, he agrees to go. There is just something about her that is drawing him to her. He wants to know more about her and is willing to venture outside his comfort zone for her.

The only people Royal spends time with is his "family", the Gamebreakers. Even then, he has been known to avoid them since his accident. So when he starts feeling like Jade is someone he can spend significant time with, it scares him.

Jade, on the other hand, has a very small group of friends she can trust. And she does not call them "family". So when she and Royal get along so well, she is excited. But then morning comes and so does reality.

As life moves on, and gets complicated, adulting becomes the norm.

Are these two destined to be the next hot duo in music? Are they destined for a personal future together? Do they make each other better and life the other up, or do they cause more harm than good? Read the book ...

I was so upset with the ending of this book. I NEED to know what happens. I need the next book NOW! And who will be the female partner in it?

A couple of things I felt like I still need to know. What ever happened with Rico? And what about all of the people surrounding Jade? I feel like I need to know more details on these open items. More to quench my curiosity than to further the story.

4.25 stars. Royal, the male songwriter/ex-rock guitarist lead, has struggled with life since he was in a car accident and woke to find his right hand seriously damaged, leaving him unable to play music any more. However, he’s attending an awards ceremony because he believes the singer of one of his songs will win. When the spotlight turns to him, he starts to panic and his assistant finds him a quiet room to sit in whilst she gets the car.

Jade, the female country singer lead, is thrilled to be moving forward in her career. Winning a major award, she’s shocked to find Royal in her room but they’re drawn to each other and he accompanies her to an after party and then they head back to her hotel room.

When being seen together leads to them working together, neither can deny the attraction but Royal is sure he’s not good enough for Jade and he verbally pushes her away.

This story is dual POV, well written, and a contemporary, celebrity, struggling to accept disability romance. I enjoyed Jade’s sense of self-worth and her willingness to walk away from a potentially abusive situation. I also appreciated that she was willing to accept advice where her knowledge and experience were insufficient. I empathised with Royal’s depression over his situation. I enjoyed seeing his character development and the steps he was willing to take to resolve some of his mental health concerns. I enjoyed the relationship development and the steamy intimate scenes. I adored the found family and the integration of secondary characters in their lives. I’m eagerly awaiting the next instalment in this series.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

The heartbreak I felt wasn’t just in the pages—it was the ache of turning the last one. Heartbreaker, the second book in the Gamebreakers series, is a mesmerising, emotionally charged romance that proves once again that when these authors promise passion, protection, and life-changing love, they deliver in spades.

This story is a perfect collision of country and rock ‘n’ roll. Reclusive rock star Royal has hidden from the spotlight ever since a tragic accident forced him to step away from his band. Once, he thrived in the limelight, soaking up the energy of the crowds, the press, and the parties. Now, he hates it all. The flashing cameras, the scrutiny, and the relentless attention are nothing but a reminder of everything he’s lost. But when he pens the next big hit for rising country star Jade Cantrell, fate throws them together in an unexpected—and electric—way. Their chemistry is undeniable, leading to one unforgettable night that was never supposed to be anything more. But when they find themselves snowed in together, their connection only deepens, and their music becomes the foundation of something much bigger than either of them anticipated.

Some of my favorite moments were those intimate scenes in the cabin, where music became their love language, binding them in ways words never could. But Royal’s unresolved past still looms, a shadow threatening to pull him back into isolation. I adored Jade—her strength, her unwavering sense of self despite the fame knocking at her door, and the way she grounded Royal even as their worlds started to spin out of control.

As they step back into reality, the challenges mount, and until Royal can face his past, their love stands on fragile ground. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish, making every moment of heartache, passion, and hope worth it. And that ending? Absolutely epic. If you love romance that hits deep and leaves you breathless, Heartbreaker is a must-read.

Royal Ewing was the lead guitarist for the rock band, Midnight Sun, who lost everything due to a tragic accident that crippled his hand and cost him his ability to play guitar. Jade Cantrell is a country star on the rise who wants to take control of her musical career and surround herself with people she can trust. After the awards show where JJaade wins Song of the Year with the song written by Royal, Jade and Royal spend the night together. Jade is disappointed Royal is gone in the morning. During an interview, Jade is blindsided when the interviewer asks about Royal leaving her hotel room the next morning after the awards show. Jade is mad her publicist isn't doing her job and comes up with the lie that her and Royal were working on new music. Royal isn't happy about the new music lie but suggests a secluded cabin retreat to work on new music. Will Royal and Jade be able to fight their attraction and keep their hands off each other? Can Royal open up to Jade about his band, his accident, and his ex? Will Jade and Royal give their relationship a chance? How will Royal react when his ex drops some unexpected news on him? Will Jade forgive Royal for the things he said when he lashed out at her? Will Royal and Jade find their way back to each other? I loved Heartbreaker by Kat Mizera and Elise Faber. Jade and Royal are a great couple with scorching hot chemistry. Royal is broody and grumpy while Jade is sweet and sunshine. I love how Jade seamlessly fits into Royal's found family. I absolutely love the banter between the guys. I would highly recommend getting Heartbreaker and the other book in the Gamebreakers series by Kat Mizera and Elise Faber. I received an ARC copy of this book, and I am leaving my honest review.

Royal and Jade don't disappoint

Kat Mizera and Elise Faber's HEARTBREAKER, book #2 in their Gamebreakers series, is a grumpy/sunshine, friends to lovers, one night stand, country singer/rockstar romance which I quickly devoured. Both authors' writing is perfectly seamless, it is impossible to know where one author starts and the other finishes, and their story did not disappoint.

Royal Ewing is a rockstar guitarist who has been in hiding since an accident took away his ability to play. Jade Cantrell is country music's newest sweetheart having just won an award for a song written by Royal. Jade is a ray of sunshine who is being taken for granted by those she has surrounded herself with, while Royal has become hardened, a grump, since his accident. Unexpectedly meeting at the awards show, the two spend a night together which alters both their lives.

From the beginning I was hooked on Royal and Jade's story. Their chemistry sizzles, their banter was fantastic, and their heat was explosive. I loved watching them grow emotionally, especially Royal. Of course, there are some ups and downs, but what relationship doesn't have them?

HEARTBREAKER was a fun read. Even though it is only the second book in this series, I love the camaraderie, support, and love that exists between the four men. Together they have built a wonderful found family. HEARTBREAKER gave me many laugh out loud moments and some wonderful moments to sigh at. A definite MUST READ.

This is Book 2 in the Gamebrakers series by this dynamic duo. I love that the writing is seamless and I never feel like there are two different writers working on this one book. A wonderful story of healing, putting yourself back out there for someone else, lifting them up to make them thrive while doing everything you can to protect. To say there is loads of emotions would be an understatement.

Royal went from being on top of the world as a top notch Rockstar until that one accident took his world away. Now a struggling recluse who only spends time with his found family. But when your song is up for song of the year, you drag your ass out from under a rock and go support the beauty that brought it to the world.

Though Jade is finally on top of her career with winning this award, it is lonely there. With her parents gone and her few successful friends out all around the world, she finds no one to turn too. When the media puts a twist on recent events she finds herself in a cabin in the woods writing songs with a grumpy Rockstar.

Can this collaboration be just what the doctor ordered for both of them. As Royal opens up and lets Jade into his private fold, she finds so much more than help with her career. She finds a found family that she never thought she might have. Will they survive the ups and downs of the music world and media? Or will it all be too much as Royal tries to step back out of the shadows for her?

Grab your copy and enjoy! I will be here impatiently waiting for the next book. I am not done with these characters just yet.

A little bit of heart break, a whole lotta feels

Heartbreaker is the second book in the Gamebreakers series by Elise Faber and Kat Mizera, blending steamy romance, emotional healing, and the world of music into one captivating story. This book takes readers on a rollercoaster of emotions as the reclusive former rockstar, Royal Ewing, and the sweet, talented country singer, Jade Cantrell, are thrust together in a way neither expects—and neither can resist.

Royal Ewing was once the lead guitarist and rock legend of the popular rock band Midnight Sun, until he lost everything in the wake of a tragic accident. Unable to play the guitar anymore, his career is over, and his personal life has crumbled—and the future he envisioned is emptiness. Royal is stuck in a world where he’s trying to figure out who he is without the music that once defined him. Until he meets Jade Cantrell, a rising country singer with a pure, sweet personality and immense talent, and a one-night stand between them leads to much more that neither of them bargained for.

The book effortlessly blends emotional depth with sizzling chemistry, and it’s impossible not to root for them as their journey toward healing, forgiveness, and love unfolds. With its emotionally complex characters, slow-burn romance, and twists along the way, the book is a perfect addition to the Gamebreakers series. Elise Faber and Kat Mizera have created a love story that feels real, raw, and ultimately redemptive. This book is a must-read for anyone who loves rockstars, heartfelt romance, and stories about second chances.

Admittedly, I’m a serious rock star romance fan, but I loved this one so much I immediately grabbed the first of this series, Icebreaker, and gobbled it up so I’m ready for the next romance in this world. And we get two talented storytellers teaming up to give us an epic series about five friends who’ve been family since college. This one has everything we love in a binge-worthy romance and I couldn’t get enough!

Royal Ewing is a damaged, has-been rock star, but he's the words and music behind country star Jade Cantrell's greatest hit. When an interview gets out of Jade's control, it has Jade and Royal getting away to a cabin out of town in order to write Jade's next big hit. And then a snowstorm strands them. We all know what happens with a forced proximity, but for me it was the depth of heart and complex emotion that really made this one sing.

Royal and Jade's road to forever is not an easy one. Royal has some serious healing and growth to see to, and Jade needs to figure out who she can trust after multiple betrayals. The beauty of this one, aside from a compelling and heartfelt romance, is the phenomenal group of friends. They’re equal parts unconditional support and tough love while always encouraging and uplifting each other. Seriously, this found family dynamic, alone, is worth the read. Easily one of my all-time favorite rock star romances, you won’t want to miss it!

Heartbreaker by Kat Mizera and Elise Faber is a novel that blends passion, drama, and emotional depth. This book takes readers on a journey of love, heartbreak, redemption, healing, and celebrity, all set against the backdrop of the music industry.

The story follows the lives of two dynamic and well-crafted characters whose chemistry is undeniable. The MMC is a tortured former big-name guitar player dealing with after effects of a life and career altering injury. The FMC is an up-and-coming country singer looking for the right people to love and support her. Their relationship unfolds with plenty of angst, sizzling tension, and moments of raw vulnerability, making it a compelling and immersive read.

Mizera and Faber’s writing is seamless, offering engaging dialogue, well-paced storytelling, and an emotional depth that keeps readers invested from beginning to end. The character development is particularly strong, allowing readers to connect with their struggles, triumphs, and personal growth.

One of the standout aspects of Heartbreaker is its balance between romance and real-life challenges. The characters face personal demons, past traumas, and the pressures of fame, all of which add depth to the narrative and make their journey toward love all the more rewarding. The supporting characters also add richness to the story, leaving readers eager to explore more of this interconnected world.

Overall, Heartbreaker is a must-read for fans of contemporary romance with well-developed characters and a strong emotional core. Kat Mizera and Elise Faber deliver a heartfelt and exhilarating novel that will leave readers swooning and wanting more.

What a beautifully written, heartbreaking, emotional, and will live with you for a long time romance. Ms. Faber and Ms. Mizera have delivered a grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, rockstar/country girl love story where turning the pages has you so enthralled with the characters and storyline that you can't put it down. The banter, friendships, family, and love makes this book a must-read
When you are hiding from the world because you are haunted by an accident that took away everything that mattered to you, you develop a hard shell. This is exactly what happened to Royal at the height of his career. One bad car accident and he lost his band, his wife and his ability to play the guitar. When he writes a song for Jade, a famous country singer, his life takes a change for the better, or was it? One night had his heart beating again and wanting more, but deep down he knew he wasn't good for her. Jade on the other hand, was dealing with things that had her looking for people she could trust and Royal was that person. Could he open his heart to love and keep it? Will Jade show Royal that he is a man who can be loved and love back? Can they help one another heal?
At the turn of every page I was pulled into their beautiful story. I loved the way the friends, who turned family, opened their arms and hearts to Jade. To see the love and chemistry grow between Royal and Jade was magical and had my heart feeling full.

I devoured Heartbreaker—and dare I say, I loved it even more than the first book? This series is doing something I really appreciate: giving us wildly different romance tropes while keeping everything tied together with a close-knit, found-family friend group. The first book was hockey, this one is rockstars and country music, and I can already tell future books will keep us on our toes. It’s like a romance buffet, and I am stuffing my plate.

Royal is the kind of broody, broken hero I live for—grumpy, emotionally wounded, convinced he’s unworthy of love (spoiler: he is absolutely worthy). Jade is a ray of sunshine, but she’s not a pushover. She pushes back when Royal tries to self-sabotage, and I loved watching their dynamic unfold. Their chemistry? Chef’s kiss. The found family vibes? So good. And that ending? Let’s just say my jaw dropped.

Now, let’s talk about the cover. No, really. We have to talk about the cover. Because if I had judged this book by its cover, I might’ve skipped it entirely—and that would’ve been a tragedy. The depth, the angst, the swoon in this book? Nowhere to be found in that design. Justice for Heartbreaker, please.

Bottom line: If you love rockstars, emotional wounds that get healed by love, and steamy, swoon-worthy romance, ignore the cover and grab this book. You won’t regret it.

Thank you to the author and 1852 Media for the eARC.

I am really enjoying this series by the two authors; it's been a great rollercoaster ride of emotions but I also loved the chemistry between Royal & Jade but also the relationship between them that progressed from beginning until end was entertaining but also lovely to see unfold. A great, romantic rockstar read!

Royal has been through so much and isn't used to be in the spotlight anymore but when the song he's written for country music star Jade is up for an award, he's there to support it. After the ceremony, it's hard to be there and he wants nothing more than to get out of there, he runs into Jade. There's an instant spark between them that both haven't really felt before and they get into an easy conversation. Soon there's a friendship between them that seems to be evolving into something more but there's a lot more behind the scenes that come into play. Jade has always known what she has wanted but the people around her doesn't seem to be very interested in her best interests. She feels lucky to have met Royal and he give her some good advice, while they are also working on some new things but when something goes the wrong way and Royal's past meets his present, it'll be a lot to take in. Could this be the end of their relationship or will it all work out in the end?...

When I read book 1 of this new series, Icebreaker, I just knew the authors were going to grab me by the heartstrings when Royal’s story came out and boy oh boy did they ever not disappoint me. Just WOW! Royal was on top of the world: he was a rock band legend, married, rich and living the dream. That is until he was involved in a car wreck that left him unable to play his guitar and ending his career. And to add insult to injury his wife divorced him. Now he is a grumpy ex-rocker that can only handle being around a select few close friends and basically hates life. But when a chance meeting of a country star, Jade, who has recorded a song he wrote exclusively for her, something sparks between them. They end up spending one glorious night together, but Royal knows he’s no good for her. But when life throws them in each other’s path again, can a sweet, innocent country singer put up with the brooding former rocker who walked away too long ago?

Outstanding read. It’s heartwarming, heartbreaking, funny and oh so romantic. I highly recommend both Icebreakers and Heartbreaker of the Game Breakers Series. Grab them up, you won’t regret it. As for this reader, I am anxiously awaiting book 3 - Dealbreaker.

Fast paced and attention grabbing! The second book in the Gamebreakers collaboration between Elise Faber and Kat Mizera dives right into the heart of the matter as rocker Royal Ewing is foisted back into the musical scene he's been hiding from with a blast. There's emotion, heartache, joy and love all mixed together into one delicious story. I loved his family of best friends and how they quickly included her into the mix. I wanted more history on what exactly happened between him and his band, and I wanted a bit more of a deep dive of development into their relationship as a whole, but I really enjoyed them together and the gist of their story as a whole. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I loved the wholesomeness of Jade and her life with her grandma. Her warmth is what made it easy for Royal to connect and let his guard down. My favorite part about Ewing was his love for his niece Frankie. They were simply adorable together.

I recommend this book as well as the previous one in the series to anyone who enjoys easy to like characters who aren't afraid to work towards finding that forever after when it crosses their path.

I adored this love story for its uniqueness (at least to me), and how I was brought on a journey witnessing a great love unfold, tried, and redeemed. Royal and Jade were endearing characters. Royal represents the flawed, damaged version in each of us - struggling with a life-changing trauma, trying everyday to cope and overcome anger and bitterness, and being choosy with the people he surrounds himself with. Jade is the one we aspire to be - successful and incredibly talented but kind and securely grounded in spite of her superstar status. But perhaps what I loved about her character the most was that she was Royal's redemption. It was she who plucked him out of his murky world of self-isolation and resentment, and it was she who made him want to be a better version of himself. I think we all want to have an impact like that with the person we love the most. In the end, Jade served her purpose well, and in so doing they both achieved a union that had high promise of lasting a lifetime.

I received an advanced review copy of this book from the authors and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Heartbreaker, book two in the Gamebreakers series brought us two characters that were so easy to fall for. They each had their own struggles but found healing in one another. I loved their journey and desperately wanted them to find the peace and happiness they deserved.
Royal Ewing was a guitar player in a famous rock band until a car accident limited the use of his right hand. Now he is a bit of a recluse, except for his found family, but is still a talented songwriter and his obvious talent is front and center when the country music star Jade Cantrell wins a highly prestigious award and it is his song that is her number one hit. Jade struggles with feeling alone, since she no longer has any family, even though she is always surrounded by people and throw in the challenge of finding people she can trust as she moves up in her career weighs heavily on her. Royal has some experience and insight that he lets her in on which helps her figure out how to handle the people she questions.
These two have passion and a love of music so when they decide to spend a few days together in a snowed in cabin they find that their passion for one another is hotter than the music they write.

Jade and Royal two people that the world never saw coming together. Royal is a famous rock guitarist that lost everything in a accident that made him unable to use his right hand and blow his marriage up. Jade is a country music that is rocking the charts. Royal is now working behind the scenes writing music. Jade makes the crossover to pop music winning awards for a song that Royal wrote for her. A chance encounter after a award ceremony has sparks flying between the two of them. The two of them decided that they can have just one night and no one would be the wiser. Little did they realize that the paparazzi would soon have gotten word of that night and then the fans would hear about it. Next thing they know their management teams have them working on a whole album together. As they work together it is hard to ignore the chemistry that is between them. Royal though has a hard time letting his guard down because he was so burned by his ex wife after the accident that took his career. Watching the Royal and Jade over come their demons is a great read the story is one that keeps the pages turning easily.

I really enjoyed this book. The connection between Royal and Jade was fantastic, but I also appreciated the way they both brought out the best in each other. Royal wasn’t really living, due to his accident and losing the ability to play the guitar. Jade brought light into his life that he didn’t want to lose. Unfortunately, he was so broken that he didn’t know how to let her in completely.

Jade is a singer who just won an award and she feels a connection with Royal. They both try to fight the attraction, but working closely to write songs and getting snowed in changes their minds. They truly are perfect for each other and deserve to be happy together. She was strong, but learning her way around the industry. When she trusts the wrong person, their relationship is thrown for a loop.

My only issue with this book was his reaction and the things he said to her. I understand the reasons behind his words and that he took necessary steps to work on himself, but I feel she forgave him way too easily. I can’t wait to see Gemma har happens next in this series. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
