Lady Celia Buchanan lives her life in a social whirl. And she's hiding a secret that could ruin her. She needs a suitable husband who is either blissfully unaware of the devastating truth or adores her so much it won’t matter. She doubts such a man exists until she discovers Gabriel Rose watches her from the shadows. He may be a rogue, but his kisses set Celia on fire, and the things he whispers in her ear are utterly scandalous.
Gabriel Rose straddles the border between nobility and London’s murky shadows. He is content there—until he discovers an obsession with the one woman he can never claim as his. But when Celia grants him a kiss in the darkness, her fate is sealed. Once Gabriel tastes her sweetness, he cannot let her go. What must he do to keep her forever?
Destiny is a fickle creature. A bastard is abruptly elevated to the rank of marquess, and a lady is caught in a compromising situation. A hasty marriage may not erase dark secrets and society's prejudices, but will a dangerous threat from the past force these star-crossed lovers to realize they belong together?
April enjoys writing both historical and contemporary/dark romance with a generous splash of heat. When not penning tales of passion, she enjoys traveling with her husband, attending rock concerts with friends, and time spent with family. Brainstorming new storylines is best done while riding her horse or during long walks with her German Shepherd. A tumbler of good whiskey helps tie all the details together and brings her characters to life.
This wasn’t so-damn-hot-the-kindle-was-smokin… it was so-damn-hot-my-kindle-melted 🥵
A little slow to start, once the story caught fire, it was a raging inferno. I loved the intense connection between the MCs… on the surface they were so very different but they were powerfully drawn to one another; at first physically, then emotionally, and as the story unfolded, I could clearly see that they were made for each other.
Highly recommended if you like an intense, dominant, possessive, utterly irresistible man and a little d/s with your historical romance.
“Hands,” Gabriel commanded darkly. Celia faltered, her heart lodging in her throat. Her skin felt alive, a mix of apprehension and perhaps excitement prickling her like thousands of hot needles. “What?” she mumbled around a mouth gone dry with confusion. Gabriel sighed. “Your hands, sugarplum. Give them to me.”
“I hope I am not forced to repeat my request,” he murmured in a voice laced with silky threats and simmering desire. “But then again, maybe I do.” “Why do you want—” The lazy slap to her bottom shocked Celia into silence. It didn’t really hurt, but it certainly galvanized her to take him seriously. “Stop asking questions, my lady, and do as I say.”
(Me: Yes, my lord) 😉

His mouth traveled from hers and made a searing path down the column of her neck. Open mouth kisses were interspersed with sharp nips of his teeth to the delicate skin. Celia gasped at the overwhelming sensation of being consumed and worshipped. She was held in such thrall she couldn’t muster the concern that his hands were involved in sinful things. “Be mine, Celia.” His demand was repeated while nipping her ear.
“You’re such a good girl. Waiting so patiently for me to make you come. Just a bit longer until I show you the stars,” he murmured, smoothing his hand over her buttocks.
***
This was much bigger. More encompassing and empowering. It both weakened her and made her invincible. A paradox of emotions. Two sides of the same coin. Soft and yet unyielding. Giving and taking. The conqueror and the sacrifice. Light and dark. She was all that at once. A perfect match for a man like Gabriel because he was all those things and more. The realization that she loved him hit Celia with the sudden clarity of a lightning bolt.
The first book in A Wicked Rogues Romance series by April Moran, My Darling Rogue follows Lady Celia Buchanan and Gabriel Rose. Celia is an Earl’s daughter in search of a husband that will love her and accept the secrets from her past. Gabriel is the bastard son of a nobleman who is undeniably drawn to Celia. However, Gabriel knows his social status prevents him from the one woman who has captured his attention.
Gabriel and Celia are compelling characters, and they have a unique opposites-attract romance, which I loved! Gabriel is a possessive and demanding hero with a difficult past, and he struggles with feelings of worth, duty, and more. Celia also has trauma from her past that she struggles with. However, the closer they get, the more they face their troubles and conflicts.
Gabriel and Celia have so much chemistry, and the sexual attraction between them is palpable. Both characters have reasons to think their relationship has no future, but they can’t deny their attraction and connection. And their romantic scenes are so steamy! Gabriel is a dominant alpha who knows how to take charge, and Celia, though resistant because of her past, finds a sense of safety in his arms. She also finds that she enjoys some of the sexual practices that Gabriel shows her, much to his delight.
The story has an entertaining plot and interesting main characters as well, and I’m curious to see who will be the focus of the next book in the series and where it will take place. This story is set primarily at a house party, which is one of my favorite historical romance settings. It presents an intimate and fun place for Gabriel and Celia’s rendezvous.
This is an entertaining start to the series, and I’m thankful to April Moran for providing me with a copy of the book. If you like steamy historical romances with dirty talk, spanking, and a lot of chemistry, then you should totally check this one out!
If your ears are sensitive to sexual language and or cursing, please do not read. My Darling Rogue, by April Moran. “But understand this, sugarplum. You are mine now. Mine. And I am not a man who shares his possessions. Should you ever seek the attention of another man, even if that man is my own brother, I will not hesitate to erase him from this world and have you witness his demise.” “Would you fight me if I tried? Or would you drink me in as though I were the finest brandy, and you were dying of thirst? These are two of the many statements that comes from our domineering man Gabriel. Ladies and gentleman (pause) here is my review. Yes. Yes! Yes Gabriel I want you to freak me! I need you to freak me!! “And that’s when I knew that I would be invested in this book.” We will discuss about the sugar plum and the sensual way one such Marquess loves to eat them later. April Moran is a new author to me whom that I will be enjoying her books till the end of time. First off there was a number of hards slaps being distributed through out the book. I felt the sting of them through Gabriel’s silence. I thought that the story was shared with clear and simple explanations. For me this made the book easier to read, as well as having the story move quickly. The story background was a little tame, however it collaborated well with the entertainment that includes Celia and Gabriel love story. The details from the town homes, the food that was offered to the characters, to what the characters were wearing, and some very descriptive sexual details, played with my imagination to no end. For instance Mr. Gabriel. Oh my gosh April Moran you really know how describe a man that had me salivating for his buns hun. How this man moved through the book, commanding everything around him. My naughty bits were on high alert! Every time the man had a dialogue I had to cool myself down with my fan. I mean the dirty words that were coming out of his mouth while claiming Celia was volatile to my thinking clearly while reading this book. He wouldn’t have to tell me anything twice. I would be in the bed with the biggest smile, ready and waiting. I absolutely loved Gabriel for his passion of not giving up on Celia. His determination to make her happy was his dream for her. Let’s talk about our Stubborn girl Celia, I thought that she was respectable lady who had her morales and values in certain things. There were sometimes where I wanted to shake her and say snap out of it! You remember that famous scene with Lady C and Mr. Cage. I was screaming in my head, “The man is standing before you naked like Adonis. What are you going to do?!!!” I know what I would have done, I would slang Celia out of the way and jump Gabriel like a wild Spider Monkey. My clothes would have mysteriously disappeared, while doing the naughty dance. You heard me. I’m not ashamed to share my wicked thoughts with you. Through time I believe that Celia cleared that thick fog out of her head and saw the potential of what Gabriel could offer her, besides his appendage. While fighting her fears with her past history and trying to move forward with her life, Celia couldn’t understand this strange mountain of a man showing her so much attention. Oh my gosh, I almost forgot the sugar plum. Picture this Gabriel sitting like a King at the dining table. Celia sitting before him on the table. Somewhere between the two there’s a sugar plum hidden. I swore that Gabriel searched for that sugar plum like he was eating at a cream puff challenge. He lapped up every last drop of that whip cream. I had a wonderful time reading this delectable book. There’s more to this intriguing story that will have you turning the pages as quick as you can read them. I give this story two snaps and a, “Get naked, bend over the dressing desk and look into the mirror.” Until next time my fellow readers… read on!
This one just didn’t work for me, personally. I took a dislike to the hero and things that I usually like in a story (touch her and die energy, spanking) just gave me the wrong feels. I felt like the hero was too jealous/possessive and the sexual chemistry felt ick rather than hot. The secondary storyline with the heroine’s past also helped contribute to the overall dislike.
Tropes: Class Difference, Unexpected Inheritance, Forced Proximity
My Darling Rouge is the first book in a new,spin-off series of The Taming series.Gabriel Rose, the Hero, first appeared in Taming Ivy(book 1) as Sebastian Cains man of affairs and his good friend.Gabriel Rose is believed to be a bastard son of a Lord, who educated and provided for him but never acknowledged him or his mother. He deals with all kinds of people and watches and observers everyone from the shadows including the heroine,Lady Celia Buchanan,an Earls daughter. He is inexplicably attracted to her but knows a man like him can never reach so far high above his station.Celia, for her part,is also attracted to this big, burly man but can’t act on it due to certain circumstances in her life. A change of circumstances and a few heated rendezvous seal their fate and they are brought together.Gabriel is sure of his claim on Celia, but she resists fearing disappointment and threat from the past.Gabriel and Celia have to trust each other and work together to discover the adoration and love they both so yearn. This book contains some funny laugh-out-loud scenes as well. Caution for readers:This book has an Alpha-male,who takes what he wants, super steamy love scene(🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥) and dirty talk. And it is done in the marvelous writing style of Author April Moran. I requested an e-arc of this book and the opinions are my own.
Excellent storyline! This is Book 1 in A Wicked Rogues Romance. Gabriel Rose is the bastard son of a powerful Marquess. Gabriel has been able to mix with the nobility and with ruffians. Right now the big handsome alpha male finds himself at his friend an Earl’s house party. Lady Celia Buchanan is a beautiful debutante at the house party looking for a husband. She is not picky so long as her future accepts her secrets. Compromising Celia, Gabriel proposes to her. At the same time he receives notice from his half younger brother that he is now the new marquess. A rich and powerful marquess! I just loved this storyline, and the attention to details. It’s a beautiful and sensually romantic storyline. Their are secrets and insecurities, and vengeance. Gabriel heals Celia and she completes him! Theirs is a powerfully, sensual love story and I so loved reading this book! My only complaint would be that there is no epilogue, I really love epilogues ❤️
So this author KNOWS how to write a sex scene. I really am enjoying the less conventional HR sex scenes recently. My only wish is books that deal with sensitive or taboo topics have a link to CW or a tiny blurb about it. Like for me some more common CW’s (rape mentioned, miscarriage, death etc) I’m fine with but others I’m not expecting in a romance like animal death really throws me off balance. Ok with that out of the way: GABRIEL IS THE ALPHA WE NEED. His dominating presence was really felt. Celia is so sweet but feisty and their banter at the beginning really drew me in. The only reason this isn’t five stars is I felt like the couple didn’t learn how to fit in each others lives. It just kinda felt like they remained strangers and Celia never really learned Gabriel’s personality other than he is kind but also can hold a bucket load of anger 24/7. Glad consent was a part of their sex life and will probably read more from this author in the future!
This romance was sensual, steamy and heart felt and I was truly captivated. Gabriel is a possessive rogue but he is also caring and I loved how he adores Celia from the start. Celia is smart and feisty and I also loved the witty dialogue between the two. I thought the scenes were all tastefully done and well crafted and it was like I was drawn into a slow and sensual dance. Their journey to love felt like it was destiné à être!
This is my first book by this author so I had no expectations. Wow, what a surprise! Gabriel is a strong, powerful and possessive hero. Celia even though damaged by her past, is the perfect fit for him. I love that she is written as powerful herself despite her fears. Very different from the usual Historical Romance. If mild S&M isn't your cup of tea then this isn't the book for you.
I found April Moran in 2018. I have only read 4 other books of hers prior to this one. I hadn't seen anything come out for awhile and she has very few books so didn't know if she was even still writing.
I was really glad to see a new series coming out by her. I have really enjoyed her writings. I love her sex scenes. Celia and Gabriel were an interesting couple. I really liked their dynamic. I think after watching all the 50 Shades and 365 Days movies reading their story was a bit tame but I still loved it. I liked that he was in control but not controlling. I liked that she wasn't sure sometimes but willing to try. Just a overall good read.
I received an early copy of this book. I enjoyed the characters—flawed, with baggage. Everything was not all sunshine and roses for the main couple, or their families! I appreciated all the connections back to the Taming series, I’m going back to reread them now! I eagerly await book two of is new Rogues series!!
I'll preface this review by saying that the BDSM trope is not really my thing. That said, I'm a big fan of April's books and I'm not against reading BDSM stories because I'm usually still able to enjoy them because there are often other side characters/events that flesh out the story more. That wasn't really the case in this story. The main focus here is very much Celia and Gabriel's growing D/s relationship and the events that help shape it.
I LOVE an obsessive, possessive, alpha Hero (which is the reason I fell in love with April's books to begin with!), and Gabriel is definitely those things, but I couldn't help but feel like his alpha nature was at odds with his "I'm not good enough for her" attitude, especially in the beginning of the story. My favorite alphas don't give a rat's arse about social standing or public opinion. They find the woman they want and damn the world. That aspect of Gabriel's character kinda threw me off. He sorta gave me Christian Grey vibes: socially/physically powerful but with some mental insecurities. Aside from his protective Dom persona, I don't feel like we learned much of anything else about Gabriel's character.
Celia spent most of the book trying to figure out why she suddenly has sub tendencies. She occasionally came off as bratty and not incredibly smart. At one point she confronts the villain of the story and tells him Gabriel is an incredibly volatile and dangerous man who will kill him if he discovers him, and in almost the next breath gives into the villain's blackmail because she needs to protect Gabriel from slander and gossip. So Gabriel (who grew up thinking himself a low born bastard and not really giving a damn about it) is strong enough to kill a man but would be irreparably brought low by some gossip? Not likely.
Stylistically, the story was easy to read and follow. The events that transpired were fairly "convenient" but I suppose that added to the simplicity of the storyline. The wording and dialogue were a bit flowery at times, but I guess that's to be expected in a book where the heroine's pet name is "Sugarplum." 🤷♀️😏
All in all, while the BDSM trope might not be my favorite cup of tea the book was still entertaining. I think if you're a fan of BDSM stories with the primary focus on the sex then you'll love it! If you like low-key cinnamon roll, Dom heroes with caveman alpha tendencies and a filthy mouth then you'll love Gabriel! I can't knock a perfectly acceptable book just because it features one of my least favorite tropes. That's not fair. I'm pretty sure that the majority of folks who read it are gonna love it and that's what is so great about romance. There's something out there for everyone. I'm still moving forward with my pre-order of this book because I think April deserves the support and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one. Honest, but fair. 🙂
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Gabriel Rose knows he has no business tangling with Lady Celia Buchanan. She’s the daughter of an Earl who deserves more than he can possibly give her. Celia is also drawn to Gabriel but she wants more than what most marriages of the ton have. She wants someone she can love who loves her in return but is also willing to accept her somewhat scandalous past. Despite neither feeling worthy of the other they can’t resist the chemistry and their lives entwine leaving Celia and Gabriel to navigate their feelings and the budding relationship.
Oh my. This was my first April Moran novel but it will definitely not be my last. It somewhat surprised me. I didn’t love the first chapter. There was something about Gabriel I wasn’t feeling. But as soon as Celia arrived for the house party I was hooked. They had such chemistry from the first time they appeared on the page together. Every glance between them was electric. The times they avoided each other’s gaze were full of anticipation and angst. The first time they crossed paths in the library? Well… remarkably hot considering everyone kept all their clothes on. This is one of the steamiest reads I’ve read in a while. That wedding night? I have no words but wow.
My favourite part was Celia. She might be a daughter of the peerage and a budding sexual submissive to Gabriel but she’s no damsel in distress. Celia can hold her own and has no problem putting Gabriel in his place when she needs to. But that’s not to say she didn’t need Gabriel. His support of her was hot - yes he was all cavemanesque with his “all who touch her must die!” but he also trusted her. It was amazing seeing her as she embraced her new position and witnessing how her and Gabriel’s relationship thrived as trust and love grew.
There’s a bit of drama, some secrets and a fantastic amount of steamy action between the leads. This book was a brilliant beginning to the series and I kind of want to go back and read it all again which is big considering I never reread. Gabriel and Celia are interesting and fun characters to follow as they find their places in the world and the chemistry between them burns up the pages. So… when can I read the next book? :D
Gabriel Rose enjoys spending time at the country estate of the Earl and Countess of Ravenswood. Gabriel might have humble origins and is in truth a plain Mr. is still treated as an equal. The Earl is having a house party which Gabriel gets to also participate in which to him is a good thing. The Earl invites the Lady Celia Buchanan whom Gabriel is obsessed with too. When Gabriel and Celia meet though sparks fly. Gabriel is entranced by Celia. Also, while at the house party Gabriel’s fate is changed and suddenly, he becomes the Marquess of Rosenthorne. Gabriel is now worthy of Celia even though he doesn’t feel he is. Still, Gabriel will do what he must because he realizes that he can’t avoid her and wants her for his very own. So, Gabriel offers marriage to Celia knowing that his feelings for her won’t affect him overmuch. Celia becomes the Marchioness loved by everyone including Gabriel. Celia does hold a dark secret that if Gabril ever finds out the truth could destroy him and his love for her. This is a very intriguing captivating romantic Regency story! At first, it seems things are missing because when or how did the hero and heroine meet? It does feel too as though we are just dropped into the story but as you go along things do smooth out. Many layered with numerous plot twists definitely make for a quick easy page-turning read despite the brashness of Gabriel and the seemingly innocent seductress Celia. Gabriel was the Regency equivalent of Christian Grey especially in his bedroom antics that of course it was hard to not call him Christian which yes, I did a few times. Of course, it’s easy to fall for him as easily as Celia did. Of course, Celia wasn’t as pure as she should have been. The logistics of her seemingly virginity still is questionable even after. Just because it’s not impossible or even plausible maybe it can happen, and Celia’s past means someone doesn’t know what they are doing. Ms. April Moran, however, writes very well that pulls you along into the story even if you try to avoid it. So, this book is definitely worth a read and maybe worth a reread!
April Moran is back with a new series of Regency/Victorian romances, beginning with My Darling Rogue, first of the Wicked Rogues.
Gabriel Rose is a man of shadows and dark deeds. Feared by men and lusted after by the ladies of the ton looking for excitement.
Abandoned by his father he grew up on the streets of Paris and London. He moves in the dark recesses of English society. He's a trusted friend to powerful men. Rich by his own intelligence and skills, he stands at the edges of society, where he is barely tolerated, and wants for nothing more than the hand of Lady Celia Buchanan.
Lady Cecilia Buchanan is the younger sister of reformed rake, Tristan Buchanan. She's protected, coddled and pampered. She has also managed to thwart her mother's very overt machinations to see her daughter wed. But Lady Cecilia has a secret, one that she believes makes her unwedable.
He proposes. She rejects. Let the games begin.
Their story takes us from the powers and privilege of peerage, through the dirty underbelly of London, and to the halls of the House of Lords, and the Queen herself.
April Moran likes to showcase her characters internal struggles. On the outside, you would think that Gabriel is the self confident rogue, uncaring of society's opinion, finding them foolish and self indulgent. And while the latter is true, he's very aware of the opinion the ton holds of him. It effects his every action, and every decision he makes is filtered through the lens of the actions of a man who longs to be respected and well regarded.
And though this is very much Gabriel's story, Celia and her secret are central to Gabriel. Her secret is a stab at the double standards and expectations of society.
Don't think I've forgotten the heat. Moran brings it in this story. Gabriel is a strong, dominant man, and he takes the sensual education of Lady Celia very seriously. Very. Seriously. Read by a fan and bring a bucket of ice. Definitely NSFW.
I look forward to this new series of rogues from April Moran. And make sure you read her backlist, The Untamed Duke, and Moran's contemporary romance, The Bloodfeather Promise are two favorites of mine.
Historical romance has never been my jam, I don't know why. Maybe it's verbiage, maybe it's style, I don't know. I DO know this book made me rethink that idea. THIS historical romance is beautifully written, has great world and character building, lots of chemistry between the main characters and is HOT HOT HOT.
Gabriel is a man on the fringes of society - his father left him a bastard, but he is wealthy thanks to his own smarts, and also best friends with one of THE high level society members. He has his pick from nearly any woman of any status, and he has had his fair share - but the one he WANTS is Lady Celia Buchanan. While he lusts for her, desires her, and dreams of her - he has convinced himself he is not worthy. Therefore, he hangs around, watching her at society events. Imagining how they would spend their time together and the things he would do, if given the chance - while also feeling like he is protecting her.
Lady Celia Buchanan has a secret in her past that she would like to keep hidden - or at least to marry a man who won't hold it against her. While her mother does her fair share of work to marry off her daughter, Celia is reluctant - until she notices Gabriel watching her. He's devastatingly handsome, obviously protective, and the things he says to her when they speak...she is interested in the things he could teach her.
While the entire book is them getting to the truth of the matter, how they are perfect for each other and in for an intense, passionate relationship together - you watch them grow together. Lady Celia is a strong female lead who is likable (for most of the book), smart, passionate, and strong. Gabriel is imposing and dominant, but putty in Celia's hands. He is masculine, passionate, well thought and spoken...they make a wonderful couple and this read definitely shouldnt just be left laying around for anyone to pick up. NSFW but SO GOOD. Just a great, well written book. Enjoy!
I loved Celia and Gabriel’s story. It had all of the emotional depth and steaminess that I was looking for. Celia and Gabriel are two people who just understand each other and are really the missing puzzle pieces to each other’s souls.
Gabriel is my new book boyfriend. He is EVERYTHING I love in a hero: big, brawny, good-looking, honest, possessive and fiercely protective. To me, he was a combo of Gabriel (sidebar: Gabriel is like the perfect book boyfriend name) Sauvageau from Tempting Fate by Kerrigan Byrne and Sebastian from Taming Ivy by Ms. Moran herself. Gabriel had that “touch her and die” vibe that is my hero catnip.
Celia, I struggled with a bit more. Initially I sort of disliked her because I felt that she was overly rude to Gabriel on several occasions. I grew to love her though. She’s smart, fun, resourceful and eventually has a nice balance between being a strong woman and also being able to surrender to her man. Considering her past history, it made sense that Celia was “prickly” as Gabriel referred to her (my prickly sugarplum, it works!).
Together they are magic. Gabriel is able to pull a more vulnerable side out of Celia. The love scenes are pure fire. I particularly loved the scene in the garden after there was a game of catching fireflies. I pictured that scene and imagined that it would be so beautiful on-screen in a film or series.
Overall, this was another wonderful addition to the series. I had been disappointed in the previous book with Violet and Tristan, I just didn’t connect with the story like I did with this one and The Untamed Duke. To me, My Darling Rouge, is on par with the Untamed Duke which is saying a lot. The Untamed Duke is a comfort read that I’ve read dozens of times now. I expect that I will be rereading My Darling Rogue every few months.
I received an ARC for an honest review, all opinions are my own.
My Darling Rogue was not quite what I expected. I did enjoy it, the two main characters drove me crazy. The constant hot & cold with so much love and passion for one another. Yet neither knew how to handle those feelings. As individuals or even together. In saying that also means there was a lot of character growth throughout. Growing into themselves as well as each other. Gabriel Rose, is a wealthy nobody, in a society where titles are everything. Yet he has friends in high places, so despite his wealth, lands him at quite a few society parties through the year. People he feels he doesn’t belong among but it’s also where some of his closest friends are. It’s also how Lady Celia caught his eye. She’s the girl he can’t resist, yet the one he can’t have. Or can he? What happens when one night his life changes on a dime, up now you are no longer a commoner but a Marquess instead? Lady Celia is tired of being pushed to choose. She doesn’t want to marry those who’ve recently been around her despite her mother’s insistence. What her mother doesn’t know is that her daughter plays dangerous games. Putting herself in precarious situations that could ruin a lady of society. And on more than one occasion has needed rescuing by Mr. Rose. She’s taken with Mr. Rose. Unfortunately she knows that society dictates they can’t be together, which is also why he’s perfect. Till one night all that changes. This romance is a whirlwind of growth, learning, acceptance, and protection. These two care so fiercely but are never up front about it. Which makes their adventure a difficult one. Hopefully they get past that before a blast from the past comes to rock their world. Will it bring them closer together? Will it tear them apart? You are just going to have to read to find out. 😀
An enjoyable and engaging historical romance, where falling in love with a rogue is risky. Living her life in a social whirl, Lady Celia Buchanan is also hiding a secret which could ruin her. Celia needs to find a suitable husband who is either unaware of her secret, or one who won’t care. It’s not until she meets Gabriel, that she actually believes that such a man exists. Gabriel Rose, lives on the border between nobility and the murky London shadows, and is known as a rogue. Gabriel has also been watching Lady Celia Buchanan from the shadows, and his obsession with her is growing. When Celia and Gabriel share a kiss in the darkness, her fate is sealed, as far as Gabriel is concerned she’s his and he will do anything to keep her. For Celia, Gabriel’s kiss sets her on fire as do the scandalous words that he whispers in her ear, but can she trust a rogue. When a change in circumstances and rank, along with a compromising situation result in a hasty marriage, the couple have to deal with society’s prejudices. However, when a threat from the past arises the lovers may realise that they do indeed belong together. Celia and Gabriel are wonderfully detailed characters, and Gabriel is definitely an unapologetic and possessive hero. Their chemistry sizzles off the page and leads to some extremely steamy scenes, and Gabriel’s bad language is definitely not gentlemanly! I was hooked by this romance and the author does a great job of setting both time and place, making me feel immersed in the story and the era. An entertaining read, and one which I recommend.
This book is a historical romance with a sexy steamy twist. The author does an amazing job of setting the scenes and the story along the lines of the time but by injecting some sexual chemistry between the characters making this one story I couldn't put down.
Gabriel Rose is the illegitimate son of a nobleman but because of this is he has a lower standing in society. However he has his eye on a particular lady, even though he should. He can't deny his attraction to Lady Celia Buchanan. Knowing that his affection and attraction to her isn't allowed he has turned away and kept his distance until things change and what was thought impossible becomes possible.
Lady Celia has secrets of her own. She is a very strong, determined young woman, who because of circumstances in her past has become a bit of a flirt. She feels an attraction to Gabriel, there is something about the dark mysterious man that keeps drawing her in. Will the secrets he hold be enough to heal her pain and make her feel whole again? Or will the fact of his parentage or lack of mean that their connection can never be?
This story is beautifully written, you really get a feel for the era and how society viewed certain things such as a woman being a flirt and a man with interests on a lady above his social standing. The way the character come together and their personalities beautifully complement each other and takes this romance to another level.
Well this one surprised me. It was very steamy with instances of light bondage, spanking and lots of dirty talk. Not usually what I expect in a historical romance. Gabriel Rose was a possessive, alpha male and like to say, "MINE" while seducing Celia. I had to put the book down a few times and fan myself! The two main characters (Gabriel and Celia) had an undeniable chemistry and were drawn to each other. Though Gabriel lives in the shadows, he is able to follow the movements of Celia as she goes about the ton. He is illegitimate and knows that he can never have a lady like her. However, in a crazy twist, his father dies and the presumed heir comes to tell him what the father did in his dying days. He finally admitted to being married to Gabriel's mother, a lowborn woman, and thus, Gabriel as the oldest is now the new viscount. Although he does not want the title, he knows that it will allow him to marry Celia. And she is all he ever wanted. Celia is dealing with a past traumatic event with a man she thought loved her. So now she is fearful of intimacy, but she finds she can resist this rogue. She feels like she is damaged goods and cannot be married unless her future husband knows her past. Of course, Gabriel does not care about that, but vows to kill the man who hurt her. But she will not reveal who. But circumstances bring that scoundrel back in Celia's path. Anyway, this was pretty good. I would read another book by this author, now knowing what to expect.
April Moran's books are always ones I don't hesitate buy and read, from the first I came across 'Taming Ivy' (go read it now) to this one, I've loved them all. The way she crafts the language to describe what is happening throughout, how the characters think and feel, the push and pull between the H&H and the other characters is just brilliant. I loved that this book had my much loved characters in from her previous books too, like visiting old friends. Great story arc for a bit of much needed escapism with the ending we all want to take us to a happy place... waiting for the next April!?
Some of the many excellent parts... ...but right now every shred of self preservation he possessed was burning into cinders... ...Like a moth incinerated by the very flame enticing it closer, he might never recover from this encounter with Celia... "Tonight is an excellent example of why you should refrain from such reckless behaviour"... His grin turned lethal."Ah, it is to be a lesson, then. One I'll happily teach you." ...A strange sort of fire lit Gabriel's gaze. His hand tightened on her chin holding her immobile. The air surrounding then crackled with intense promise...
Side note: heat level = hot, hot, hot...so don't buy if this kinda thing offends you, you have been warned
My Darling Rogue is page turner. The story of Gabriel Rose and Celia Buchanan will leave you breathless. Rose is hot alpha with a serious past and full of mystery and intrigue. His upbringing was in the dark streets and his character is unapologetic. He is knows what he wants and will crush anyone who stands in his way. Men fear him and women are swooning to be caught near him. But his eyes are set on Celia. Celia comes with a dark secret which she has kept to keep her family name clean and virtuous. She tries hard to not allow Gabriel to see what she really is. The story of the season of marriage for Celia and her parents are wanting to ensure a perfect match for her future. She falls for this Rogue – Gabriel who no doubt wants nobody to even look at what belongs to him. The book is filled will past characters from the The Taming series and allows us to take a look into what really lies within Gabriel’s heart. His true intentions and how dark his soul really is. Is Celia the one to tame this rogue and give him his desires or is Celia’s secret too big for even Gabriel to handle. The lust and fire between these two characters will leave a burn if you are not careful. Once again April Moran takes you away to a different time and place and literally fall in love with both of them.
“ “The lady in question has no interest in me. True, I’ve aided her a few times in past months, but we’ve hardly said two words to one another. She views me as little more than a servant. Perhaps even less.” Although he laughed at the possibility of Celia Buchanan ever accepting him as suitor, Gabriel admitted the idea filled him with a longing he could not ignore. He’d give his soul to have all obstacles of class and background erased between them. To be seen as an equal, one fit to pursue the lady he desired, accepted based on his character and deeds. ”
My Darling Rogue is the first book in the Wicked Rogues Romance series by April Moran. It is an interesting historical romance with angst, drama, chemistry, steam, emotion, secrets, danger, and more. Lady Celia Buchanan is about to meet her match when she meets Gabriel Rose. Their chemistry sizzles and the sparks fly, with danger adding even more intensity to the whole story. What happens makes for a captivating read. This may be my first read by Ms. Moran, but it proved to be quite an intriguing read, so I will definitely be exploring more of her books as soon as possible. Happy Reading!
This is the first book in a new series by the author. It’s also the first book that I have read by this author but I’m very sure it won’t be the last. Although I read a LOT of romance, I haven’t read a lot of historical romance but it’s now becoming a genre/trope that I’m loving more and more. Gabriel Rose is the rumoured bastard son of a Marquess. Although technically a commoner, he lives amongst the rich and famous of the Ton due to being a close advisor of Sebastian, an Earl. Here he meets Lady Celia Buchanan, daughter of an Earl. Unable to resist the intense chemistry between themselves. Gabriel and Celia are rushed into marriage after being caught in a compromising position. This story is HOT and steamy. The chemistry between Gabriel and Celia is off the charts. I absolutely loved reading their story. The story is filled with steamy sex scenes, drama and blackmail. I was totally hooked on this story from the very beginning and the author kept me gripped and very entertained throughout. The story flows very well and the characters are well written and relatable. There is also a great cast of secondary characters who add so much to the story. I definitely recommend this book. If you love a steamy historical romance then this book is for you.

This is an opposites attract story of the best kind. They are strongly attracted and have great chemistry together. Gabriel is a strong alpha take charge man but has the ability to give Celia the comfort and sense of being safe. I loved their connection and the author does a wonderful job of developing this relationship. They have to face their inner conflicts as the closeness develops. April Moran has written such an entertaining start to this series and I can’t wait for future stories.
