Dash Keane is about to become the biggest star in history.

As a poor teenager living in the Dregs, Dash Keane can only escape his dismal reality by competing in illegal rooftop races and staying up late to watch the timenet with his younger brother.

When there is an opportunity to participate in a competition set thousands of years in the past, he uses his rooftop racer skills to catch the eye of Mr. Myrtrym, head of entertainment for the massive Dominus Corporation.

It is the chance of a lifetime when Dominus Corp. hires Dash to be a timestar—the focus of his own series in which he must survive some of the most dangerous periods in history, including the Cretaceous period, feudal Japan, the Wild West, and the Golden Age of Piracy.

But when empathy for the people of the past conflicts with the desires of his new employer, he must decide whether the price of fame is worth it, a decision that may cost him everything.

What a different and exhilarating take on time travel! As a HUGE fan of twisty time plots, I loved Echo Nova by Clint Hall. This sophomore release far exceeded my expectations.

I knew from the first line we were in for a fun ride with a charismatic MC. And that Dash was going to have a great growth arc. Boy was I right! Maybe it's because of my love for the movie Groundhog's Day, that I'm a sucker for growth arcs mixed with time phenomena. But cocky characters who discover the value in others has got to be one of my favorite kinds of story threads. It makes you curious how someone "like that" did such good for others at the cost of themselves.

Oh, and there's a LOT of sword fighting, gunslinging, dinosaur fleeing goodness inside.

This book is great for all readers but especially one of the hardest to shop for demographics: teen boys. Having 4 teen and near teens in my house, I'm always on the lookout for books that will engage them while fostering courage and heroism.

Can't wait to read what Clint puts out next!

As a 56-year-old woman, I know that I am not the intended audience for this young adult novel. So I'll start by saying that I did find it entertaining. However, I say that in spite of the novel's flaws.

Mr. Hall is using the time travel trope in an interesting and uncommon way. He has created the excellent bones of a dystopian setting. His protagonist is appealing, if simplistic, and there's a suitable villain. And the man knows how to write an action sequence! This is probably the strongest element of the novel.

I may be guilty of damning the characters with faint praise above, but this is not a nuanced tale. More problematic is the case of teenage insta-love depicted. They've met once, and suddenly it's a love for the ages? And not for nothing, I don't think there was so much as a single kiss written on the page. Too busy dodging samurai, I guess.

There were other plot elements that were simplistic, convenient, and in one case borrowed directly from The Hunger Games. So, yeah, I get that the intended audience isn't necessarily looking for nuanced character development and sophisticated plotting but having those things sure didn't hurt Suzanne Collins in the novel referenced above. It's possible to be entertaining and excellent. This was entertaining and alright.

The door is left all the way open for a sequel. I can't say I'm waiting on tenterhooks, but if a copy found by its way into my hands, I'd probably read it.

Interesting concept. I'm not much for time travel (I find it painstakingly repetitive), but Echo Nova used time travel in a way I haven't seen before, and the execution avoided the common complaints I have with time travel fiction. I appreciated how the author illustrates the need to treat everyone as human beings.

“Time once lost, cannot be regained.”

This fast paced, action packed story had me hooked from the beginning. Dash Keane, the Red Dragon, participates in illegal rooftop races that are then broadcast on timenet in hopes that he will make money and become famous. With the help of his brother and best friend, Dash has been making a name for himself and doing pretty well. An opportunity arises that allows him to compete as a legitimate timestar on the timenet. Dash quickly finds out after his first time jump that things are not what they seem. He has to make a decision if being a timestar is really what he wants or maybe there is more to the world than making money and being famous.

This ya sci-fi had me reading late in the night needing to know what happened next. If you are a fan of books like The Eye of Minds by James Dashner and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline then this book is for you. Echo Nova definitely needs a sequel, and I can’t wait to read what Clint Hall writes next!

Clint Hall has done it again with another nonstop ride that blends sci-fi and fantasy in the most imaginative way!

This book reminded me in various stages of Loki, Doctor Who, and Red Rising, with a lot of heart and universal yet timely themes, especially for teen readers. The main character gave me Spiderman (my personal favorite superhero) vibes in the best way as well.

Echo Nova features historical and futuristic time-hopping, training, chase, and battle sequences, tender yet fraught family and friend relationships, and a sweet romance. Content is wholesome and while there are intense scenes, it does not go too dark for a young adult reader.
Fans of all of the above should pick this up for themselves or their teens!

Y’all! This book was so good! There was never a dull moment in this action-packed thrill ride. I was racing through the pages as fast as I could. I was invested in every heart-pounding moment.

The worldbuilding was great. It was so cool! I felt like I was completely immersed in the story. Like I was right there in the middle of things alongside Dash. And I found myself losing track of time while I was reading.

I thought the whole concept of the timestream, timenet, and timestars was really interesting. And the science behind time travel was fascinating. I’ve never heard it explained that way before, but it made perfect sense. And it was really cool seeing all the different time periods that Dash visited.

While Dash was impulsive and a bit stubborn at times, he was an endearing and likeable hero. I loved his tenacity and admired his bravery. I loved the supportive relationship between him and his brother Knox, and I liked seeing the strong bond of friendship between him and Garon.

There were some bumps along the way, which is putting it mildly, but I really enjoyed watching Dash's growth throughout the book. He faced so many tests and trials, but it was captivating following his journey.

I didn’t want this book to end! It was perfectly paced and an absolute blast to read. It wasn’t all fun and games, though, as it delved into some timely topics, which I really appreciated. Needless to say, I highly, highly recommend it! Fans of high-stakes science fiction are sure to devour it!

I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

Actual Rating: 3.5 stars (rounded down since that’s where I was leaning towards)!

After having this on my TBR list forever, I am so thankful I finally got to it. I really enjoyed Dash’s story and the time travel element of this story. It is very action packed, reminding me a lot of Spider Man Into the Spider Verse. The action level is about the same (minus the superpowers).

What lowered my rating down a bit was simply the fact I struggled to connect with the characters and their plight. Other than the action aspect of the story, nothing really connected me to Dash, Ryoko, or any other character (except maybe Knox, he was a sweetheart).

This was not a bad book at all! Just simply not my cup of tea.

Clint Hall's "Echo Nova" is a shot of pure adrenaline from the very first page! This time-travel sci-fi adventure plunges you into the world of Dash Keane, a resourceful kid from the Dregs who dreams of escaping his poverty by becoming a star on the Time Net – a wildly popular show broadcasting real-time adventures in history.

Hall masterfully delivers a fast-paced and energetic narrative that kept me glued to the pages. If you're a reader who loves non-stop action and excitement, especially with a distinctly adventurous flavor, this book is for you. And let's be honest, what's not to love about a story that throws its protagonist into the Cretaceous period (think dodging dinosaurs!), feudal Japan, the Wild West, and the Golden Age of Piracy? It's the kind of imaginative fun that truly appeals to the "boy" in all of us! Beyond the thrilling historical escapades, "Echo Nova" offers a creative and unique spin on time travel and the interaction of time travelers' actions in the past with the present with its intriguing concept of "time ripples."

Hall's writing is cinematic and immersive. I would love to see “Echo Nova” get a screen adaptation. Hollywood, stop with all the failed reboots and sequels. For a fresh and exciting story, look no further than the pages of “Echo Nova.”

Dash is a protagonist you root for, especially as you witness his complex family dynamics and his heartwarming relationship with his disabled little brother, Knox, who I absolutely adored. The "present" world feels believable, and each historical setting is vividly and authentically portrayed.
My favorite was feudal Japan. The details of the villages, pagodas, and horsemanship showcased Hall’s attention to detail. Adding another layer of enjoyment is a well-developed romantic subplot that feels natural and engaging. You can't help but fall for the love interest alongside Dash.

While the final quarter of the book delivered wonderful twist after twist, keeping me utterly captivated and wishing the story wouldn't end, there were a couple of moments where resolutions felt a tad convenient. However, this is a minor nitpick that did absolutely nothing to diminish my overall enjoyment of this fantastic read.

"Echo Nova" is a must-read for fans of time travel, coming-of-age stories, and action-packed adventures. This is the kind of book that could put an end to the old stereotype that men don't read. Give them a story like “Echo Nova” and guys will read it all day long. This story grabs you from the start and doesn't let go. This book is a solid 5 out of 5 stars for me.

While "Echo Nova" stands perfectly well on its own with a satisfying conclusion, Hall leaves just enough of a thread that I'm sincerely hoping for a sequel. In the meantime, I'm adding Clint Hall to my list of must-read authors and eagerly anticipate diving into his other works. If you're looking for an entertaining and imaginative ride, "Echo Nova" is exactly what you need! Don't miss out on this exhilarating adventure. Grab "Echo Nova" today!

I am an early reader and this is my honest review! Ever since Hall's debut, I've been hooked. He has brilliant story concepts and captivating characters that leave me rambling to friends and family for weeks. Echo Nova reminds me of The Hunger Games, but add time travel, dinosaurs, ninjas, cowboys, and pirates. I cannot wait to receive my own physical copy!

How do you move forward when the only opportunity for success exists in the past?

Dash Keane is desperate to provide a better future for his family and raise them out of the slums known as the Dregs. Securing a spot as a timestar promises the key to finding that future, but will Dash be willing to pay the price? As the popular timestar begins to reap the benefits of his fame, he discovers a shocking truth that will turn his way of thinking upside down. Can Dash restore his priorities, or will his change of heart come too late to make a difference?

Find out in Echo Nova, the exciting ya dystopian novel by Clint Hall. In this fascinating standalone story, Hall sets the bar high as readers delve into a futuristic earth where time travel has become a popular reality show. Corporations own the legal rights to send individuals back to specific periods to record their high-stakes adventures for pure entertainment. The poor and down on their luck vie for celebrity by taking huge risks to star on the shows, but few know the true reality behind the scenes. Dash shares his adventures and exploits in an engaging first-person point of view, leaving readers eager to visit new places and explore numerous eras.

Thought-provoking themes abound as the coming-of-age arc plays out. In particular, readers will resonate with the exploration of what it means to “gain the world but lose your soul (Matthew 16:26)” as Dash wrestles with the choices presented in his pursuit of the celebrated timestar lifestyle. His progression through the story brings him to a heart-wrenching choice and a stunning conclusion as the book draws to a close in an adrenaline-driven rush. The breath-taking final chapter ignites hope and inspiration as Hall drives home a message of wisdom targeted at young readers and adults alike.

Perfect for fans of James Dashner's Maze Runner series or time-travel novels. I highly recommend this book to readers looking for a fast-paced adventure with thought-provoking themes, light romance, and intriguing technology.

This was a fun, adventurous book that I think younger me would have loved. It had elements of Mad Max, Blade Runner, and Ready Player One.

I wasn't quite the right fit for this book, but that doesn't mean it was bad. I would have loved to get to know Dash better, but the story never slows down enough for that. I'm also a little upset because he did the thing where he let the villain go instead of killing him, which is one of my least favorite tropes.

But if you have pre-teen or teenage boys, this is a great, clean adventure story full of twists, turns, and time travel.

ECHO NOVA is a story about a futuristic world in which time travel is possible and time stars are broadcast to the world, living by their fame. It's about a boy who becomes a time star thinking he is about to reach all his dreams and finds that things aren't exactly as they appear. Young adult readers will find unique characters, an interesting storybook world, and an engaging plot.

This is the second book that I've read from this author and, as I had enjoyed the first, I was interested in reading this one. As with Hall's previous book, this storybook world is intriguing and he does a decent job in fleshing out the world. I liked the different slang, the social and political structures, the friendships and familial relationships. It was interesting seeing where the main character would travel to and see. There were some additional relationships back in time that were complex and brought additional depth to the story. The main character himself was relatable if not always likable. He's young and his character wasn't always consistent, nor did his logic or choices always work for me. But he's easy enough to cheer on. I would have liked more development in areas and for the story to connect with me more as that affected how much I liked it or cared what happened. The plot does have some interesting and exciting places, but I also wanted it to make better sense and felt there needed to be more development.

In the end, was it what I wished for? This was a unique story with its futuristic world, time travel and overall plot. I wanted a more consistent main character and better development, but still enjoyed reading this one.

Content: Some violence including murder and war.

Y'all, this book is great. I usually struggle with time travel, but this book explores the concept in a completely different way that is fascinating! If you can't decide if you want to read a sci-fi or a samurai journey or a gunslinging western or a pirate adventure, then pick this up and read ALL of them in one. It's got all the exciting action, fast pace, and smattering of romance a YA could hope for.

But it also explores some timely themes like the pitfalls and vanity of wealth and fame, challenges how we view the past and those who walked before us, and poses a fascinating question of how do you deal with someone who views themself as a necessary evil?

This is both hugely entertaining as well as thought provoking, all with characters you can root for, the best little brother ever, and an ending that hurts so, so good. Worth it.

I've been excited to read Echo Nova ever since I heard that the author was under contract for a new book. The ridiculously beautiful cover only served to make me more excited--and now, in just another month, it's releasing. Sure, there are a few things about it that I would've changed--but for the most part, this book didn't disappoint.

If you've read Clint Hall's debut novel from last year, Steal Fire from the Gods, then you know that he loves action and moral dilemmas. This book is chock-full of both. XD If there was ever a book cut out to be a blockbuster with Marvel-style action sequences and thought-provoking themes... this is it.

Take the sleek futuristic-dystopian feel of Ready Player One, mash it up with bits and pieces of the movie Timeline... and you've got an idea of Echo Nova. It has the aesthetic of a mainstream YA novel, but so much more meaning, even though it's not explicitly Christian.

Dash Keane is a downtrodden young man with a fiery soul and a determination to come out on top. After growing up in the Dregs of a society where the rich have everything and the poor get only scraps, he believes that carving out a place for himself among the wealthy is the only way to have a decent life. He's watched his parents work themselves to the bone every day to provide for him and his brother, Knox... and he refuses to let that be his future.

Dash tells himself that he wants to become a timestar so that he can get medical treatment for Knox and a stable job for his best friend Garon... but his friends and family know better. They know just how dazzled he is by the corporations that rule their world, and they know that those corporations aren't to be toyed with.

This book is about Dash. About his journey to becoming a good man in a society that values neither life nor morality. Everything else takes a backseat to that. That made Dash's arc real and vivid and beautiful... but I wish that we'd been able to see more of the side characters, especially Dash's love interest, a Japanese girl named Ryoko.

One of the things I'd loved most about Steal Fire was the sense that each and every side character had a story to tell and a goal they were striving for. Because of Echo Nova's focus on Dash, Dash's journey felt more deep and real than that of Gunnar, Steal Fire's MC... but the side characters also felt a bit less realized.

The worldbuilding in this book, though, was incredible. I don't generally like time travel--the plot becomes too confusing, the timeline's a mess, and my brain gets twisted into a pretzel. But in this book... it worked.

Presenting: time travel as an entertainment industry.

Yes. I can imagine the look on your face. It's new. It's different. But it works. My brain didn't turn into a pretzel this time. XD I've never seen time travel depicted this way before, and while at first it was a little confusing, once it clicked in my head, everything made perfect sense and I think I'm going to have trouble imagining time travel any other way now. XDD

Overall? I really liked this book. I do wish that the side characters had more development. But that's the only less-than-stellar thing I have to say. Echo Nova was fun, action-packed, and just overall a really fun read. (: Even if you're like me, and don't normally care for time travel sci-fi... I'd say give it a go. I think you'll find yourself surprised.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Echo Nova by Clint Hall takes a unique approach to time travel, holds up a mirror to our present reality, and dashes high-speed into the past.

As the protagonist Dash Keune is aptly named. The talented teen has an online following for his illegal rooftop racing persona. When he gets an opportunity to become a time star, the future equivalent of a reality TV personality who travels through time, he sprints toward the opportunity with wild abandon. Dominus, the organization that offers Dash his big break, turns out to be less than ethical and more than willing to exploit him and countless others.

The protagonist’s character arc balances admirable characteristics and room for improvement. Likable but conceited, he learns from the damage caused by his blind pursuit of glory.

Although the book is set in the future and takes the characters to the deep past, its themes mirror modern culture and the challenges faced today. It can be read simply as an exciting sci-fi adventure in the vein of Ready Player One, The Maze Runner, and Hunger Games, or it can be considered a critique of oversaturated digital obsession, the growing difficulty in discerning what’s real, the exploitation of the underprivileged, and the objectification of people who seem to exist only on the other side of the digital screen.

Echo Nova sports a truly unique approach to time travel, one that, once explained, is hard to imagine why other storytellers have not yet thought of it. There have, until now, been essentially three dominant approaches to most time travel stories. Clint Hall has invented a fourth that avoids the overplayed complications of the multiverse, present-overwriting, and fixed timeline approaches. The author presents something new, a hallmark of good sci-fi. A whole host of action, adventure, and plot twists are made possible by this novel concept, while avoiding the usual plot holes that the other methods can produce.

Most time travel tales take place near the beginning of the invention of time travel, and conclude that time travel must be destroyed for the good of humanity, but not so for Echo Nova. Because of this book’s novel approach to time travel, the author is able to set the tale in a world where time travel has become so embedded in society that commerce, war, commodities, entertainment, tourism, and a new caste system are all based on its long-term existence.

Being released by a Christian publisher, Echo Nova will have a surprising appeal to a broader market, as there are no explicit expressions of faith by any of the characters. Some brief openness to a Creator and afterlife is mentioned by the hero, but he takes it no further in this installment. The book leaves open the possibility for a sequel, which may be the place for more direct discussion of faith-based ideas, since the author mentions God and a relationship with Him in his after-story acknowledgments. Despite the lack of explicit mention, the book is full of the protagonist’s need for Christian virtues, and he is in constant motion toward those ideals.

Best For: Young adult readers of time travel, action adventure, and sci-fi with a male protagonist.

Discern: No profanity or lewd content, but there were some scenes of strong violence, battle action, and multiple deaths.

Wow! What a fabulous concept ripe for a movie screen or streaming series. Time travel reality series where the combatant, or timestar, is set a mission in a past time period, all screened to an audience in the present age.

Dashiell Keane lives in a rundown part of town in a future world which we don’t really get to see much of. It’s a world of flying cars (‘gravcars’) and marvellous technology where the rich thrive and the poor survive the best they can. Dash and family are members of the latter. Dash supplements his parents factory wages by rooftop racing which are screened live and big bets are placed.

Dash is recruited to become the next time travel reality star. If successful, he could help his family get out of the ‘Dregs’ where they live and buy some advanced technology to help his disabled bother, Knox.

Like Hall’s first novel, we’re never kept still for long. The action comes thick and fast, Hall providing us with a strong narrative so we get to feel like part of the action. We’re taken back in time to a series of different centuries: the dinosaurs, early cowboy time and medieval Japan where the samurai rule.

The first half of the story races along and we’re left wondering where Hall will take us next. We’re given some hints that Dash’s employer, Dominus Corp, may have sinister intentions, and we find out very late in the novel about some technology that will transform their business and make them all powerful. I thought this could have been presented earlier in the story and given Dash a greater purpose for longer.

Like his first story, there are elements that lack explanation and some logic. Ransacking the past to fix the present-day shortages and issues doesn’t make sense to me and some of the explanation of Dash’s parents and background confused me a little. There’s a small thematic point I appreciated about appropriately acknowledging people in the past when in this story they’re known as ‘echoes.’, ie, no longer relevant or significant.

The end happens all a bit too quickly and we’re denied visibility of one epic battle scene which surprised me a little. I appreciated Dash’s moral compass but wondered if he was too mature in his thinking for an 18-year-old who didn’t seem to have many friends. He grew up very quickly in the story so that he was able to challenge his nemesis conversationally.

It's a rollicking good story and I’ll happily read Hall’s next one, whether it’s another Dash Keane story or something new.

Illegal rooftop racing is all that Dash Keane has to live for. Determined to get him and his disabled brother out of the Dregs, Dash does everything he can to become an interweb star. When an act of kindness costs him his racing career, Dash thinks he’s doomed to poverty and normalcy. That os until one of his videos attracts a producer who promises him a position as a timestar. Something like this has never crossed Dash’s risk-taking mind, but he can’t pass up an opportunity to be in a show where fame and fortune, but sometimes death, are a possibility. He will have enough money to help his brother and their parents out of the Dregs. All he has to do is fight pirates, or Samurai, or dinosaurs, or even cowboys, whatever the fans demand! This rooftop racer will soon discover that his luck may have turned, but it will be at the cost of others.

Clint Hall is a master of the all-you-can-eat buffet of writing! Just like his novel Steal Fire from the Gods, Echo Nova is hard to pin down into one category. Is it sci-fi? Fantasy? Dystopian? How about all the above? We have anti-gravity shoes, power blasters, dino riding heroes, along with ancient Samurai training and cowboy gun-slinging classes. What’s not to love?
Though this book is not geared to any gender, I believe the male audience will devour this and lick the plate clean. It felt like a seven-year-old boy was telling his dad all his favorite things and then dad went and made an epic novel out of them, which according to the dedication, might be just how this book was born. If you love action-packed but meaningful storytelling, pre-order Echo Nova now!

Scoresheet:
Category: YA Dystopian Sci-Fi
Spice/Romance: Clean read/No spice. One light romantic relationship
Violence: No excessive gore. Of stage mention of dismemberment and sword/gun wounds.
Morals/Worldview: Christian worldview hinted. Good morals.

Time travel? Well I’m intrigued. Let’s meet Dash and his over the top adventure he lives in. Why does he want to jump across rooftops with danger at every level? He is definitely a risk taker and loves the adrenaline rush it gives him.

In this science fiction tale we witness how Dash gets reprimanded because he helped someone during the race. Seems like gamblers don’t like that. It cost him the win but he can’t understand why he is being kicked out. I wonder if this will cause him to change or will he still want to be kind to others?

Dash knows his parents struggle to pay bills as they work long hours at the factory. Dash like other teens want to be popular at school. What he gets into is like living on the edge. He decides to risk everything to go back in time in hopes of being famous. He is now in a place where dinosaurs roam. His mission is dangerous but now he has no choice but to move forward. He grabs the egg just as he hears a roar that could break your eardrum. Each place he travels we find him having to make changes. Does it affect his morals?

It seems doors are starting to open up for Dash as a video of him grabbing the dinosaur is seen by many. Is he on the way to stardom? Well he has just been offered an opportunity to be on timestars. I love that Dash is willing to take on a challenge that could help his brother Knox with his medical struggles.

The story delves into how Dash will face decisions that could change him. What will it cost him to be famous? Will he still be humble or will he become more greedy? Why does he need to change his appearance?

Get ready for adventure as characters travel back in time. Dash is fun to follow because I feel like he really changed. What was so important at one time isn’t has much now as he sees where he needs to be. Will he learn that family is more important than fame and money?

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

I just finished Clint Hall's 'Echo Nova' (Enclave Escape), and it was just what I was looking for! A great sci-fi world built by the author with a storyline that explores human values.

This book takes you a wild ride. Imagine blending time travel with the cutthroat world of reality TV – it's a concept that totally grabbed me, and Hall executed it brilliantly.

I instantly connected with Dash Keane. He's a kid from a tough future, just trying to do right by his family. His rooftop racing skills, born out of necessity, catapult him into this insane world of 'timestars' – basically, time-traveling celebrities. Imagine traveling from dodging dinosaurs in the Cretaceous period to navigating feudal Japan, gunslingers in the Wild West, and pirate-infested waters. The story pulled me in to each destination travelled to and it felt like I was right there with Dash.

I love action-packed books with short chapters that keep you wanting to go to the next chapter, even if you don't have the time to actually go to that next chapter at the moment. What really stuck with me, though, wasn't just the action. It was the way Hall made me think. As Dash's fame exploded, he started to see the real cost of his 'adventures.' The 'echoes' – people from the past – weren't just props; they were real, with real lives. His connection with Ryoko, in particular, was heart-wrenching.

So for me, 'Echo Nova' isn't just a thrilling sci-fi read; it's a mirror reflecting our own society's obsession with fame and the potential for us to lose our humanity in the process. Dash's journey, from a kid trying to survive to someone willing to risk it all for what's right, resonated deeply.

Congrats to Clint Hall on this story. If you're looking for a book that will keep you glued to the pages while making you ponder some serious questions, 'Echo Nova' is a must-read. Seriously, grab a copy!

Echo Nova is a unique novel that takes you to the future. And from the future, you go to the past. It’s going to give you a new perspective.

Time travel is always something fun that we read about. But it’s not something we can do. What if, In the future, we could time travel? And what if it was something we did for fun and entertainment?

That’s where this book starts. It’s well in the future and they time travel to the past to have fun. It’s a sport to them. The people are dispensable. They don’t really matter. Because changing things in the past doesn’t change things in their own future so it’s harmless. Or is it?

Dash is our main character. And as his name might imply he’s a fast runner. When he gets a chance to be a time traveller and bring himself out of his poverty he takes it. But what if it’s not what he thought it would be? What if it changes him instead?

I loved watching Dash grow and change through the book.

There is romance in the novel, but it’s not the main focus. So that makes this book one that I would allow young adults(probably around age 13) and adults to read. It read quickly. The characters are great. There’s action and adventure but mainly we’re following Dash and seeing how he changes for the better.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

I am a big fan of time-travel stories, so when I heard about this book I jumped at the opportunity to read it. I enjoyed being taken to different time periods and not just one. Dinosaurs, Feudal Japan, and the Wild West are just three examples. Clint Hall does a good job, in my opinion, writing about those events.

The concept of time-travel in this story is really interesting. It was one I had not read of before. I could tell that Mr. Hall put a lot of thought into the workings of it. I had to pay attention a bit to fully understand but once I grasped it, it all made sense to me.

The story itself was pretty easy to read. I read more than half of it in a day. Once I got closer to the end I did not want to put it down. I wanted to see how things would play out. My favorite scene was probably when all of the portals open up. I will leave it at that, you will have to read the book to find out what happens. I am happy with the ending and can also see possibility for a sequel. Would I read that? Probably. I am curious about what new things might happen.

Echo Nova by Clint Hall is a work of Young Adult Science Fiction. How much would you be willing to give up for your family? Dash Keane, a poor teenager living in the Dregs, must face that decision. The author does an excellent job of building a character who draws you into the book. His younger brother also builds emotions in this story.

Rooftop racing, dangerous stunts, and more lead Dash to seek a spot as a timestar and be featured in his show. The descriptions of the various periods Dash travels to and his empathy for those he meets helped build a story I wanted to keep reading.

Sometimes, we must face decisions about what we are willing to sacrifice and what matters to us. The author creates a story that reflects those ideas. I loved getting to know Dash and those around him.

So, if you want a work of Young Adult Science Fiction, check out Echo Nova by Clint Hall. Whether you are looking for a book for a young person or enjoy this type of book yourself, I recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Note for parents: no vulgar language, no x rated content, themes include morality, good vs evil, pursuit of power/fame, coming of age, there is death and fighting but not graphic, teenage boy main character struggles with emotional turmoil and navigates trust and love and family and reality vs fabricated reality
This is an absolute wild ride. From roof-top racing (think parkour but next level and it's Tron) to up close Wild West mortality, dinosaur chases, and fuedal Japan, this time hopping story is high octane. There's hardly a moment to breathe. Reading this felt like watching a grade school boy explore complex emotional and moral themes using hotwheels, army guys, a cardboard rocket ship and dads favorite compass.
I've never seen a time traveling story that was so confusing and still made sense somehow. Hall's ability to convey a complex probable reality of the future is impressive and fun without being daunting. Multi-faceted in themes and action, it's palatable for the younger teens and recommended for boys (and adults)who can relate to a young hero and/or love a quick-paced story. Hall has delivered again with more depth the further you look.

"After all, the future is the one thing that isn't certain. But nowadays, I guess the past is no longer certain either."

Samurai. Cowboys. Pirates. Dinosaurs. Echo Nova by Clint Hall has it all.

This sci-fi novel follows Dashiell Keane, a rooftop racer from the lowest rungs of society who is willing to risk everything for a chance at a better life. That chance comes when Dash is chosen to be a timestar. Sent back in time to the most dangerous periods in history, Dash must simultaneously entertain the masses and survive.

But when he realizes that the people of the past may be more than just "echoes" - and that the people of the present are not what they seem - he must decide what he is truly willing to risk.

Fast-paced and filed with compelling characters, Echo Nova reads like an action movie. I loved its themes of community and self-sacrifice. Most of all, though, its emphasis on the shared humanity of people in the past and present - and the importance of historical empathy - made my historian heart so happy. It's a theme I've never encountered in a novel before, but one that is so very valuable.
