Lod the fanatical pit slave ranges the Pre-Cataclysmic Earth to confront the Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels.
They have supernatural size, strength and mystic powers. He has a sword, a knife or at times merely a fist. But in him burns visions from Elohim, giving him the courage to rise up and fight the invincible.
He began in the canals of Shamgar, trolling the waters as bait for the giant rats. Years later, he toiled in the galleys of Poseidonis, a chained beast rowing to face the dreaded fire ships that always destroyed their foes.
Lod faced the duel of his life on the Isle of the Dead, assassin’s attacks and the heart-freezing terror of the kraken.
Heroic fantasy’s mightiest warrior storms his way through five thrilling tales from prehistoric times.
I was born in Canada and remember as a small boy crawling in my snow-fort. I closed my eyes, and when I tried to open them, they were frozen shut. I didn't panic, but wiped away the ice crystals, unglued my eyes and kept on building my tunnel. Those were great days! I moved to Central California before seventh grade and couldn't believe I lived in a land where oranges grew on trees and you could pick grapes from the vine.
I used to wonder what I wanted to do with my life, what kind of work specifically. I was miserable not knowing and bordering on desperate. Then one day a friend gave me his typewriter. I began working on a novel. A different person told me it was much easier on a computer, so I bought one and began getting up at 4:30 A.M. each morning before work, writing for three hours. My eyes were unglued once again as the pang of misery left my gut. I knew exactly what I wanted to do: write. So now that's what I do, I write, and write, and write, and I love it.
A Breathtaking Read Leading Up To A Stirring Conclusion
Vaughn Heppner writes like a man possessed! This 7th book in the Lost Civilizations series fills in the blanks and expands upon the Ante-Diluvial world of heroes of Elohim and the hated First Born and their evil spawn the feared Nephilim. Lod leads the way with the final tale reuniting the most powerful Seraph Joash with the Lod and the Elonites. The final battle against Gog and his foul spawn draws near. 5-Stars!
Another group of short stories featuring Lod, which to me felt like they were covering old ground, Lod as rat bait, battle with the Kraken etc. Nothing felt new or to moving the overall story forward. Hoping that book 8 Cain, returns to the main story and as the penultimate volume starts to bring the overall story towards its conclusion.
Brilliant, just brilliant. I've been rapt with this series so far. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone looking for adventure and intrigue.
Vaughn Heppner has created one of his best, most enduring characters in Lod, the Seraph, the one whose inner light burns so bright it resists the taint of evil. "Lod the Galley Slave" is Heppner's latest in the Lost Civilizations series but is actually a step back, filling in the blanks to a character who had simply been mentioned in earlier novels. It reminds me a bit of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby coming up with a back story for heroes they brought along in the early runs of Marvel's Silver Age of comic books. Like the Silver Surfer. Not that Lod has anything to do with the cosmic being. However, he's got the single-purpose zeal of one who does not let anything deter him from his ultimate goal. And that's the destruction of those who perpetrate evil and foul the freedoms of others. Lod is the knife of Elohim, the supreme being, the good, the generous. He does what he must. Lod has the power of the devine. The Galley Slave chronicles Lod's time chained below decks, continuing to live while others die of the awful conditions. His determination makes him a legend. His strength is inhuman. He suffers like Job. Yet his faith remains strong. Lod as a character ranks right up there with Conan. He's larger than life, and adventure follows his every step. I loved this series of tales.
Lord was destined to fight and win for "ELOHIM" but first he must be hardened within the depths of misery to make him hardened for the task ahead. How can a man live with brutality? The darkness, the beatings, the hunger, the cruelties, being lost at sea only causes Lod to resolve to destroy the nephillim. He meets up with Jared who takes him further into the adventure. Great reading!
It was interesting but all of this author's books have the same flaw, at certain moments a word is miss placed. Ex: I handed him red threat to sew the cloak. I know it's knot picking but he his receiving money for a product that is not finished or only using a computer to edit his drafts.
A Fascinating Series: Heroes of God Destroy False Gods, the Old Testament Renewed
A fascinating series, where heroes of God destroy false gods, where the minor characters of the Old Testament cast are fleshed out in the battle of Good versus evil. Give us more, Vaughn!
