The year is 2049 and in the new dystopian order, the Randoms have risen to the top like cream. Earth faces dire consequences because of the Helix Complex and their illicit use of mass-sterilization. Many who could have children, were made into mules from the virulent Zondorae concoction of 2030.
Now middle-aged, Death's children do their best to move forward in a world where technology and paranormal powers collide in a mix of tragedy and circumstance. Zombies have been raised for the slave trade by those Randoms in power.
Paxton Hart and Parker's twin girls are grown and on the radar for those that understand how critical they are for the future. The tight-knit circle of friends continues to network for solutions to the depravity that has taken hold.
Can the original group right a tremendous wrong? Will the new generation of Randoms find a solution for propagation, or will their power base cannibalize those who choose harmony instead of greed?

BE STILL MY HEART 'CAUSE IT'S FREAKIN' OUT!! I am literally hungover from that ending. Man, that was one hell of a read!! What can I say about Tamara that I haven't already? This is why I read, people!! It's all about great Storytelling. When you find an author that can deliver a great story or stories, you NEVER forget them or their stories. It's like finding water in the middle of a desert and it tastes so good!! Seriously, For The Love Of Death made me feel right at home with my favorite characters. Love the new additions as well, since this is essentially their story. They're basically just trying to find a way to live their lives out peacefully even though they possess paranormal abilities. Sound familiar? History tends to repeat itself. I was glad to see the old crew all grown up helping the two newbies. The story got dark and twisted. It was thrilling, my heart was racing from one page to the next, and then I was there at the end like, ”NOOOO!! I NEED MORE!!” Classic Death for me. But hey, if Tamara wants to keep throwing cliffhangers my way, so be it. As long as there's more Death I'll be here waiting.
For the Love of Death feels like coming home after a long time away. Its been awhile since I was able to delve into Blodgett's dystopian world, 631 days to be exact but who's counting LOL. Yes, it was well worth the wait.
For the Love of Death is intense, hold onto your ass and hope we all survive. Non-stop action, heartwarming reunions, and unexpected twist will keep you on your toes. New powers, totally evil machinations and dimensional jumping will keep you vigilant to the the very end.
The whole gang is back, plus a few new characters to get to know. Caleb's and Jade's twins have grown and they are all full of trouble and power. Some want to study them, some want to control them and some just want their power...
Once again Blodgett provides a phenomenal adventure. The world building is astounding, the journey tortuous and perilous and the ending is a HUGE CLIFFHANGER...leaving you wanting more.
I received this ARC copy of For the Love of Death from Tamara Rose Blodgett in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication September 5, 2014.
I've read, and enjoyed, the first six books in this series, but bringing in the next generation of Randoms left me feeling like this series has officially "jumped the shark". I think the author should have stopped at six books.
You know those reunion shows where the producers bring back the cast a mazillion years after their show ended? They are all grown up, have families, etc. It’s like that with Tamara Rose Blodgett’s For the Love of Death. The Death kids are back, all grown up with families of their own. Gramps is still a rebellious old codger with a heart of gold, doing all he can to raise havoc in his own way and, my very first book boyfriend, Clyde is till the “to-the-rescue” charmer he always was, and yes, he is still a zombie. Call me silly, but I just adore the guy!
Things have changed in Caleb’s world, and not for the better, his two kids have powers that they need to hide…and get a grip on. Of course if not for their slight “oops” we wouldn’t get plopped down in the Death Kids version of Superman’s Bizzarro World. Hey, you are never too old for good reading, google it, younglings! The faces are the same, but the world is skewed and evil and deadly. Some powers don’t even work there, but one thing they have is worth the risk as old and new Death characters take the trip they will not forget soon.
Sometimes an author leaves a series and its world behind for a while and tries to put a little lipstick on a comeback novel, trust me, Tamara Rose Blodgett picked up right where she left off with her signature edge, snark, creative language and dialogue! She. Did. Not. Miss. One. Beat. In a world full of the supernatural, the genetically altered and the dystopian science fiction, at the top of the heap, on her own little pedestal, sits Tamara Rose Blodgett. So, inquiring minds want to know? Are you going to leave us here doing our standing ovation or will we get at least one more curtain call? Worth the wait, I pre-ordered this in February!
Series: The Death Series - Book 7 Publication Date: September 5, 2014 ISBN-10: 1496053613 ISBN-13: 978-1496053619 Genre: Dystopian |Sci-fi Available from: Amazon
Um, WOW. Blodgett is back in the latest Death series, and our beloved characters are all grown up with teens of their own now. And it's awesome!
Gramps is still kickin' at 80 years old, but as we find out fairly early on, his daughter, Ali, Caleb's mother, is dying, and Calebs son, Paxton, is having a really hard time with this.
So begins the novel, as Paxton struggles with his powers as he watches the cancer eat away at his grandmother (not Gramp's wife), a woman that so totally gets him, he can't handle the inevitable separation. And like his father Caleb, Paxton struggles to control not only his gifts, but his anger as well. And it is this anger that sends him and his sister, Deegan, on an adventure not unlike those his father and his friends used to have when they were young.
Paxton is able to jump between worlds, and as the story unfolds, Blodgett presents two vastly different worlds that are so imaginative and amazing that you'll feel like you've jumped there alongside them. As Deegan finds herself in dire circumstance after dire circumstance, and the dead continue to rise in both worlds, readers are in for some action packed sequences as the new greysheets once again mess with Harts.
This novel focuses on Paxton and Deegan, but soon our beloved Caleb and his old band of friends come on the scene once again, up to their old antics, and the fun really begins. I will admit that I was on pins and needles throughout this entire novel, especially with the new threats that await our characters, and I loved that we get to see the parent/child bond in this novel; seeing some of my favorite characters of all time, all grown up, is a real treat, and I hope that Blodgett continues this tradition with all her novels. And, from the ending we're left with in this novel, I at least know there will be one more novel following this beloved cast of characters, if not more, as Blodgett leaves us with a fairly evil cliffhanger.
I didn't realise how much I loved the DEATH series until I was able to re-immerse myself in it's sophisticated world again. I got to reunite with long lost friends, who I'd been with through some of the toughest times of their lives. From the very first paragraph I was lost in their lives once more and that of their children.
Caleb & Jade Hart's kids, Pax and Deegan are all grown up, and sporting some kick arse paranormal abilities. Their talents have been noticed and the modern version of the "Grey sheets" are out to get them. To save themselves from being captured Pax "blinks" them into a parallel world where things are similar but not, and their introduction to hell begins. Understatement! With killer cyborgs, corrupted murderous dopplegangers, and new affinities, the siblings are definitely in for the ride of their lives.
In true Blodgett style the plot is addictive, gritty, exciting and action packed with her trademark snark that gives me the crooked mouth every time even at the most inappropriate times. Her imagination knows no bounds with her worlds, zombie love, futuristic contraptions and amazingly awesome characters that will forever be my faves. Gramps deserves a particular mention here!
If you haven't read the DEATH series, you are really missing out. For The Love Of Death is a fantastic way for Tamara to give her dedicated fans and newbies a much needed dose of DEATH!
I fell in love with this series and book seven did not disappoint! Now I am anxiously anticipating book 8! I love that the series continued with the children of the original cast but didn't leave the originals behind. It was amazing!
Just finished the story and couldn't stop after I started. Right from the start it is action packed and fast paced brought all the old people together with the new and was an outstanding read hope there are more like it coming.
First I didn't know book 6 was suppose to be the end. But in 7 we not only ave out beloved characters but we add in more to love. I'm so glad you decided to keeping going with this story!
Ok, so I know this book is about Caleb's & Jade's kids, and I loved having the old gang back, but I struggled with it initially. In part because I couldn't understand what the heck these kids were saying. If this is the way kids talk today, then they don't live around me. The other thing was I had a hard time with Pax. I'm getting around it slowly, but at least Deegan is a character I can love. The poor thing. What is with all of the abuse this kid is facing? And the one good thing? They want to take away from her.
I can say that the story had a lot of action. I actually liked this version of traveling dimensions better than the original series. It flowed better, and seemed more believable. Even if that dimension sucked as much as the last one.
It is a little weird to think Caleb and gang are in their forties with teens / young adults of their own. Jumping that far into the future was surprising. And wow, what a difference in some areas, but not in others. You still have those trying to take advantage, those that are bullies, and those who are just trying to live their lives with the abilities they have.
All in all, it was still interesting to read and I'll continue to read it, but only if Mitchell stays in. I'm coming to love that guy.
Amazing! I was so happy to read more about this fantastic world and these wonderful characters. TRB really brings the people and their personalities forward and make them real for me. I find myself holding my breath while reading intense parts. The story continues a few years in the future after the original gang have grown older and some have families of their own. I love that my favorites were all present, even my favorite old guy. :) While I won't give anything away I can say that this feels like a great way to continue the story and add new characters. It doesn't feel forced which to me is a sign that TRB is an amazing storyteller.
This has to be one of the best series I have ever read. Action from start to finish in each and every book. Caleb, Jade and their gang of cronies. Then we have Caleb and Jade's children, Deegan and Pax. Zombies. The risen dead. The future and the past. The Graysheets. Partnerships. Pregnancies. Wow. What a ride this series was. Absolutely loved it. I will put this exact same review on each of the books in the series to show just how much I enjoyed it.
I loved, loved, loved this series...BUT...the ending of this series was awful. The 7th book felt as though she had signed a contract for 7 books and just threw together a novel to fulfill the requirements. It lacked the depth of the rest of the books and the ending had me closing the cover on my kindle saying "really that's it???"
