Beyond Broken Colors: a slow burn small town new adult romance

Rate this book
They say what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger but can two broken spirits unite to forge new strengths?

Jenna Altwood is enjoying her senior year as she prepares for her future. Knowing her parents would do anything for her, she doesn’t want to put the financial burden of her college education on them. When a state-wide art competition offers scholarship money as the grand prize, Jenna is assured she has what it takes to win. But when an enraged ex reappears, set on destroying everything she worked for, she’ll have to put her trust in someone she never expected.

Nathan Ward feels like his life is pulling him in two different directions. He must make a decision of what his future will look like as the clock ticks closer to graduation. While his mind is in chaos, Nathan’s heart is certain about one thing; protecting Jenna. The only problem? She wants nothing to do with him and he has no idea why.

Jenna can’t forget the way Nathan betrayed her best friend, but when he continues to show up for her, proving his loyalty and dependability, she realizes she needs to look beyond his indiscretion to see Nathan for who he truly is.

Beyond Broken Colors is a slow burn, m/f high school romance written in dual POV. This small town, he falls first, opposites attract, new adult romance is a standalone with a HEA guaranteed. It’s important to note that Jenna encounters difficult experiences, some of which are depicted on page. Please see the author's note for specific warnings.

Aside from writing, Dev is a wife and a mother to four amazing children. Her life revolves around her children's many extracurricular activities, raising them with her amazing husband in a small city in Western Maryland. She enjoys singing karaoke, spending time with those she loves, reading romance books, and creating memories with her family.

OMGGGG LOVE IT!

Absolutely adorable! I laughed. I sighed. My mouth hung open at some points. I was nervous. I was happy. I was excited. I was shy reading on some of the spicy parts. I loved it!! This book was a 5 star for me. Please check the trigger warnings beforehand just in case!!!

Book #9 Completed for 2024 📖
Beyond Broken Colors by My Cousin, Devonne Hahn 💗

Those of you who’ve been following My Reviews this year, you may remember me sharing a book called “Coming out on The Sidelines.” I would definitely recommend reading that book first if you haven’t.

It will piece together who certain Characters are, and if you read “Beyond Broken Colors” first, then you’ll know the outcome of “Coming out on The Sidelines.”

Now for The Review. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book was such an easy read, and I just love those kind of books. You know the kind where you just keep reading and before you know it you’ve read over 100 pages in just a few hours. Those are the best. 🙌🏼

I will advise to read the trigger warnings for this one. As sad as it is, I know there will be many Women who will relate to Jenna’s Story. 🥺

This Book made me Smile, Laugh at Loud, and even Tear Up in a few sections. My heart goes out to those who’ve had to endure real life situations like Jenna’s, and I just pray that they’re able to heal and love again.

There’s some “Good” Spice in here, but nothing too crazy. Overall I enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to her third book that’s coming out this month! 💗

This book has a lot of potential but for me missed the mark. Mainly I just couldn’t stand our fmc. Second, there was absolutely no character building. Characters and places weren’t introduced but just there. There’s a book prior to this one that presumably would introduce the world a bit more but you wouldn’t know about it unless you went digging into the authors previous work. If this is supposed to be a sequel, state it as book 2.

There’s some triggers so check those if you’re planning on giving this a read. If you like cheese with your romance you will probably like this more than I did.

TW at the bottom of the review.

This was a decent read even while dealing with sensitive topics... I liked the 2 Main characters...
The storyline in my opinion did have some inconsistencies but overall it was good.

TW: SA, violence, gaslightening, domestic abuse.
