I'm a reader, first and foremost. Just like everyone else.

I love books that are just out there. From fluffy to pitch-black darkness. Monsters and aliens to the men who haunt your dreams painting the walls in red.

My love for reading and writing reviews has led me down the road of becoming a writer myself, thanks to the encouragement of others!

I'm not sure where this journey will lead me, but I hope I can breathe life into words the way so many others have done for me when I needed an escape.

Wow, what an ending, that cliffhanger was killer. One thing to be aware of before going into this book/series is that these books have trigger warnings a plenty. Darkverse is definitely an apt name for the series that's for sure.

I absolutely loved Gero and wanted to know more about Bernhard so here we are. Bernhard is helping to gather troops and Idalia has decided to run. But of course, at some point, the characters are bound to converge, or are they?

We meet a few new characters along the way in this book and I'm definitely intrigued about them and want to know more, so I can't wait for book three of this series to come out.

Bernard by YD La Mar is the second book in the Darkverse series. It is an epic high fantasy dark non-shifter omegaverse.  In LA Mar's dark style we are dragged into an unforgettable world with amazing  characters living in a world with magic , danger, and surprises at every turn.  This story follows Bernard as builds Gero's army and searches for their lost omega.  Idalia begins to regret leaving the castle as she is placed into one terrible situation after the next.  She longs for Gero and Bernard but seems to catch every man's attention she comes across despite feeling revulsion at these other men she must do what she needs to survive and make it home.  Can she use these men's feelings for her against them to make it home and earn the forgiveness of Gero and Bernard,  will she survive to even make it home?

This story is dark so please check the content to ensure this is something you can handle.  There is non consentual $ex, some k!nks, violence, and gore just to name a few things included in this story.  The characters and world-building are amazing and well detailed.  There is lots of anticipation and suspense as Idalia keeps finding herself in terrible situations not knowing how or if she will get out of them or even survive.  Additionally, Bernard is hot on her heels but seems to keep just missing her, being left with only her scent.  As Idalia is dragged across the country readers are usure her destination or if Bernard will save her.

I  rated Bernard 5 out of 5 stars.  This epic high fantasy omegaverse has incredible world-building and amazing character development.  The dark and twisted scenes in this book are well written and readers can't help but be consumed by the story.  If you love your romance dark and erotic Bernard is a must read!    The story pulls readers in and refuses to let go! This story is the type of story you binge read because you must know what happens next.  The excitement and mystery surrounding cannot be ignored.  I hope you enjoy YD La MAr's Bernard as much as I did.  This is the second story in the series so please read Gero first then continue down the rabbit hole with Bernard!

Bernhard is the 2nd in the Darkverse series, following the events of Gero. Bernhard, as Gero’s second-in-command, is on the road trying to uncover an assassination plot when he happens to overhear talk that there’s a runaway Omega on the loose. Unfortunately, the Omega’s description matches that of Idalia, his & Gero’s claimed Omega.

We get some more insight into Bernhard in this story, and learn more about how he thinks and feels and the motivations for his behavior. I liked Bernhard in the first book, so I was glad to see things more from his perspective here.

Idalia (never one to not attempt to manipulate a situation to her own advantage) made an escape from the castle while everyone else was distracted (this took place in book 1). She landed smack dab in the arms of Severin, who wants to use her for his own dark ends, and Idalia is now regretting her impulsive actions as she travels along with her captor.

Luckily(?) for her, Bernhard is hot on her trail, and is not about to let Idalia go. He wants her back in the waiting arms of himself and Gero, and is quite willing, ready, and able to use violent means to do so.

Will Idalia want to be rescued by the time he arrives? What is going on between her and Severin? And is there a traitor in Gero’s ranks? It seems the answers to those questions may be more than Bernhard was prepared for.

Be forewarned and prepared, in case you’re new to the series: the author doesn’t call this the Darkverse for nothing. Make sure to read the trigger warnings, and take them to heart. This is a dark story, and at times it may seem there’s no “good guys” to root for. And maybe there aren’t, but there are flawed humans with traumatic histories involved, so maybe all the good guys in this world are gone, and we’re left with only shades of gray rather than simple black & white.

The story does end on a cliffhanger, so be prepared for that as well! I’m looking forward to the next book to see where things go!

I read this book the first day I got my hands on it - that is how much I had been anticipating this book. THEN I had to wait a while to process what I just went through so I could try to come up with a somewhat coherent review... all I can say is that this author has a terrifyingly beautiful mind. After reading so many books you can often tell where a storyline may be going. Not here - just hold on tight and brace yourself for the experience.

Idalia - although the book is named Bernhard she is front and center for a lot of the action in this book. HELP ME!! Seems like I was liking her more than many of the readers because my goodness I was not ready. This girl went through it and I don't know what to say. I wasn't expecting half of it, but Idalia is a resilient one and I know she is not one to stay knocked down.

Bernhard - LOVE HIM!! Still my fav so far in the series. I liked reading more about him and although he is far from perfect or even a hero he would literally lay waste to the entire countryside to get what is his *swoon*. His vulnerability in this book tugged at my heart strings. Idalia you don't deserve him girl!

Gero - He's ok lol

Severin - New guy on the block. The definition of toxic & at this point I can't tell if I like him or hate him. He was a big bag of mixed signals throughout the book, but I enjoyed his and Idalia's bickering and playful banter when he wasn't abusing her or using her as a pawn in one of his schemes.

Maghiel - A real piece of work like on 'it puts the lotion on it's skin' level. Idalia is definitely in over her head & is going to need to put every trick out of her hat to figure out how to get herself away from this one.

Cassia - The beauty queen with big 'D' energy. I really liked her when she made her appearance in Gero so I was hoping to see more of her in the storyline other than just being the jester so I got my wish...

Overall this book has taken the Darkverse to another level. We started off in the prisons and eventually made it to the castle in Gero. In Bernhard the world is opened up - we see a lot of world building with the towns and make our way to the coast. You learn a lot about the different aspects of the population a bit about the supernatural part of the population so I am looking forward to how that will be tied into the storyline.

omg. omggggggg.

Now, I thought I loved the 1st book but Bernhard just blows the world of which they are set in wide open. Gero's book is very much centralised in the kings castle, where you get to see Gero's change, Bernards loyalty to him shine and them both take their Omega, Idalia. It's dark and cruel and if you like to see the underdog get his just revenge and take a little extra with lots of wild shmex included✨this is the one✨ But that isn't the end of the story for them, and Bernhard is tasked with an important mission by Gero.

Bernhard's book we get to spend a lot of time with Bernhard (surprise lol) and getting to know the omega Idalia, with the introduction of new fascinating and mysterious characters, that make the world so much larger and colourful. In Bernhard there is so much more content and I can see opportunities to take it in so many directions, and my gosh I hope that the author does because I am IN LOVE with her new additions. But the story is not without some tenderness in their bleak world and our flawed anti-heroes are trying to do what is right to their loves in the best ways they understand how.
Gero and Bernhard just make me gush when they are together. Brutal warriors that are soft for each other. Like omg 🥺

There were scenes that had my jaw hit the floooor! It is a dark romance set in a medieval fantasy genre akin to Game of Thrones.

For the ghoulies who ask for 'the darker the better' I believe this will get your adrenaline racing 🖤
I would even suggest this for those who wouldn't normally read Omegaverse, it is just such an exciting adventure.

“What can we do? Look at him. That’s Gero’s right hand out to exact vengeance. He’s death personified at this point. If you get in his way, you’ll only end up as one of his victims.”

Bernhard, the second book in the Darkverse series by YD La Mar is yet again another marvelously twisted and unique addition to this series—just be warned, Bernhard packs quite the punch! And if you thought Gero was dark and intense…you haven’t seen anything yet!

Thus i darkly captivating story helps provide more inside into Bernhard, Gero’s second in command, and I was 100% there for it! Idalia is still feeling the impact of her previous hasty decision to escape in the first book, an escape that landed her in a perilous situation with Severin, but lucky for her Bernhard is already hot on her heels and on a mission to bring her home where she belongs. No matter what. The question is, does Idalia want to be rescued or is it too late?

If you love your reads dark, gritty, twisted and full of triggers—then this is the one for you! It will pull you right in and drop you head on into a dark captivating ride and will hold on tightly till the very end. So buckle up—it’s quite the ride! Just be warned, there is a delicious little cliffhanger ending that may make you go a tad crazy at the end—but it’s worth it!! Trust me ;)

Please be sure to check your trigger warnings before preceding with this book. We don’t want anyone getting trigger by any books we recommend. Now with that said lol This book much like book one is extremely dark and not for the faint hearted. This book is seductively dark and devour worthy once I received my copy I couldn’t put it down. If you don’t have any triggers then this is the book for you.

Bernhard by YD La Mar is book two in the Darkverse Series. I am such a fan of how this author writes, I can easily lose time by reading YD’s books. When I read book one, I loved it! (Gero) So when book two’s description was released I was instantly down to read. What a book! I really, really liked it. Bernhard has taken top spot…for now. His vulnerability…my heart just couldn’t take it! This book comes at you with the speed of a train and doesn’t let up! It’s a cycle of danger mixed with more danger then topped with chaos. This book is a lot in its intensity and I was down for the ride. It’s survival… a dog eat dog type of situation. At times you have no idea who should have/get what… (when you read the books, you’ll understand) I couldn’t put this book down, I was so invested in the outcome. This book expanded so much on what was learned in book one. I can’t wait to see what book three adds to the worldbuilding and if Bernhard is knocked out of my favorites slot. I highly recommend these books and this author. Fabulous writer!!!

DAMN!!! That ending was crazy, crazy, crazy!!!! I don’t know how I am going to be able to wait for the next book to see what happens next. Ugh!!!

But what a dark and twisted rollercoaster ride Bernhard’s story was! I loved Gero but Bernhard – DAMN – that man was unhinged in every sense of the word and I definitely wanted to climb up him!! He is a fierce man with a heart of gold, and would do anything and unalive anyone to get what he wants.

Idalia is feisty, resilient and definitely a fighter. She keeps getting knocked down but refuses to stay down!!! I loved this about her. I loved the connection that she forges with Bernhard and the intensity of their attraction to one another. They definitely set my kindle on fire many times over!!

Amazing storytelling with outstanding world building and creative imagery. The story was filled with everything you want in a dark omegaverse story, action, suspense, violence, blood, WTF moments and all kinds of highly erotic moments that will have you aching for more.

Loved it and need the next book now!

Bernhard is book two in the Darkverse series, and it feels like survival of the fittest, to the extreme… I believe this is one of the very few books where I feel like the author was entirely right to make a book not too long, simply because there is no lull in the storyline anywhere. It’s one thing after the other, from danger to more danger, and an endless cycle of truly troubling things.

If you already read book one I assume you know what you’re in for with this series, but it’s not just dark, it’s pitch black. It makes it hard to find really likable characters, because they all have a side of egoism as a result of the constant fight for their lives. It makes them more human, in a way, but it also makes it hard to figure out who you want to come out of this with a happy ever after, and who you want to see perish along the way… My current favorite character is Bernhard, but we’ll see how I feel after book three.

King Gero has requested Bernhard to gather troops for him due to the danger posed by the army from the north. As Bernhard travels from village to village promoting conscription, he decides not to do so in Marren. due to his men are exhausted, hungry, and must remain vigilant for any potential dangers. Bernhard over hears some men talking and it sounds like they are talking about Idalia his and Gero's omega. Could it be true? But Idalia has been tricked and was in the control of Severin, who was going to sell her so he could get his ship back. The events that transpire with Idalia, Severin and Bernhard is surprising, shocking and you will not believe the things that Cassia and Maghiel do!They are shocking! The story is very well written and the plot is excellent. However, I would read the disclaimer the author has shared. After the awful ending of this book, one is left wondering what could happen in the next book.

After reading Gero, I was invested in this world and needed to read more. Bless YD and her little dark heart, she made the story of Bernhard even more compelling.

This is the second in the Darkverse saga and is not intended to be read as a standalone. This follows the events of Gero. This book is not for the faint of heart, so please check the TW before reading.

Bernhard is on a campaign for new king Gero when he hears rumors that their Omega, Idalia, has been spotted nearby. Perplexed, he begins to investigate.

Idalia made a rash decision to flee, which she is now regretting. She has been taken by Severin, who wishes to barter her for the funds needed to repay his debts. The dynamic between Severin and Idalia is very interesting.

Bernhard is eager to locate Idalia, but her captor seems to be anticipating his every move. He begins to suspect there may be a traitor in their midst...

This story ends on an unbelievable cliffhanger... I'm still reeling.

Bernhard is the second book in the Darkverse series and if you enjoyed book one, then you're going to enjoy book two overall. If book one wasn't for you...move along. LOL!
Bernhard is exactly that, Bernhard's and Idalia's story. We're getting Bernhard's story from his perspective and filling in the gaps while he is gone from Gero's side. He learns on the road that Idalia is not where she's supposed to be and goes on a rampage to find her. No, literally. He goes on a major rampage. This book is dark with a capital D. To me, there's more violent drama than the first book.
Idalia finds herself regretting quite a few of her rash decisions, but I love that we find out the truth behind it all. It's truly intriguing and kept me page-turning. I'm a fan of this author's writing style and I look forward to the next book in this series.
Book one did a better job at keeping me page-turning compared to this book, but I still enjoyed the storyline.

OMG!! That ending. That's all I'm going to say about that. Ok I thought I enjoyed Gero's book but Bernhard was something else!! There were scenes that literally had me with no words I mean it's a dark romance right!! set in medieval time I lost myself for a second. But I was drawn into a world of secrets and uncertainty. This book was a lot with it's intensity and all I was definitely down for the ride. I mean it's survival of the fittest!! At times you have no idea who should have/get what. Is it strange that I have a soft spot for Bernhard I mean his vulnerability though my heart couldn't take it. I will say this book expands so much compared to the things we learned in the first book. Definitely can't wait for book 3 in this series. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.

Well that happened. I think I’m traumatized lol this book hits all the triggers, but you won’t be able to look away. If you thought book 1 was dark, this is …. On a completely different level. You’ve never seen omegaverse like this. If you like sweet omegas that nest and are fawned over, this is not the book for you. Idalia is a warrior, a survivor, a spicy omega brat tbh. There’s so much to unpack in this book, the depravity will be imprinted in your mind long after you turn the last pages. I actually had to turn the last few a couple of times because I couldn’t believe what I was reading. This might be the darkest book I’ve ever read, or maybe it’s the most goresome? There’s just something about it that doesn’t sit well but at the same time I need to find out what happens. Very well written. Very vivid. If you’re on the fence about reading it maybe ask a friend to read it first lol

You've heard of the Omegaverse, but this is the Darkverse! There is nothing sweet and fluffy here. These characters are dark and then darker. Check the TW, because there are some dark and jaw dropping situations.
This is book 2 in this series and buckle up, because this one had my emotions all over the place! Idalia saw a chance for her freedom at the end of book 1 and she took it. Now, she's dealing with the repercussions of her choice. She finds herself in some less than ideal situations, but Idalia is a survivor. She's intelligent, cunning and will do what it takes to survive. I love the way this book is written, you really can't tell who to trust. We get to know Bernhard better. Like Gero and Idalia, he's a complex character. I was not prepared for that ending. My jaw literally dropped and I had to go back and re-read. Can't wait to see what happens next!

In book one we are introduced to Gero, Bernhard and Idalia. And what a wild ride that was to learn about these characters!

In this book we get to kno Bernhard a bit more and follow Idalias escape. I loved getting to know him and seeing how he does have love for gero and Idalia and how strong that love is
And i think thats all these characters want. Some peace and love, Especially knowing his background and why he is the way he is.

Blood, war, the fight for the girl, lots of action and ties together seamlessly. Its hard to like any of these characters as they all off their horrible moments. However Berhard seems to be more likeable.

Overall it was a great read with lots of action a great understanding of the background We learn a lot and cant wait to learn more!

Bernhard, the second book in this Darkverse series was a very captivating read. It was very dark, much like the first book, but this book rounded out a lot more intricacies and brought more backstory into the world that the author created. We were also introduced to new mysterious characters who bring more darkness with them in this story. It was a story full of suspense, action and mystery.
Idalia was still the central character, but I loved that we got to have more POV of Bernhard as well as some POV from Severin. It was also great to hear more of the history behind these characters.
I'm in love with all of the vivid world building that has gone into this story, no matter how dark it gets.
I very much look forward to the next book in this series.
Please check TWs if you plan to read this.

Another pitch black read from one of my favorite authors!
I read Gero (book one) months ago, and from the moment I shut the book, I have been craving Bernhard's story. Where Gero's book focused on their escape from the castle, Bernhard traverses throughout the world and leaves no stone unturned. It does primarily focus on their Omega Idalia, but you get to explore quite a few pathways with this one.
If you're new to YD La Mar's writing, strap in because this isn't your cute, knight in shining armor story. This story can be brutal, heartless, and for those who like to live their life in the shadows, satisfying. I certainly have my favorite characters and then there are those that deserve everything they have coming to them. For those like me who enjoy the dark side, this one is for you.
Welcome to the next phase of the Darkverse.

Oh my god.
First of all- CHECK THE TRIGGERS.

Now that’s out of the way- holy hell. This BOOK! What a RIDE.

the smut. The plot twists. The audible gasps I gusped.
YD takes you on a whole rollercoaster. When you think you know what’s about to happen, you’re hit with the realization you don’t know a damn thing.

To be honest, these are really the first Omegaverse books I’ve read. I was on the fence about them because I’ve tried another one before but the Omega seemed too whiney and cringey.

Idalia holds her own in this novel. The connection between her, Gero, and Bernhard is palpable.

Also I’m kinda into the mysterious guy who appears 😏

I can’t wait for the third book!!

This is the second book in the series. I would suggest reading them in order. Please read the triggers for this series as it gets quite dark. The story mostly centers around Bernhard but it also brings back previous characters and some new ones. The story is dark from start to finish. Expect plenty of violence and blood. The world is one where you can trust no one. You expect the worst and plan on protecting what is yours. Bernhard is a tough male that protects those who stand with him. But one omega is has brought and continues bring more danger. Don’t expect a happily ever after as there is plenty more to come.

YD once again delivers a book that is so deliciously DARK as the next book in this (aptly named) darkverse. The story continues with Bernhard recruiting soldiers for Gero's army as they make their way back to the castle, where he will return to Gero and Idalia. This begins a wild rollercoaster ride of events and emotions on the way to another wonderful cliffhanger. This story is beautifully written with complex characters and plot twists that keep you on your toes! Again, this is a DARK book and make sure to read the trigger warnings! If you're looking for light and fluffy, back away now, but if you love it dark, then this series is for you. Don't miss out on this book!!

Bernhard is the second book in the Darkverse Series. PLEASE MIND YOUR TRIGGERS, it's called the Darkverse Series for a reason. This cannot be read as a standalone!! You must start with Gero.

THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!! I'm totally into that dark sh**, but this one even had me saying, to myself, "What in the actual FU**?!?!?" With that being said, I am absolutely LOVING this series. It pushes boundaries...even mine, and the worldbuilding was literally off the charts. YD La Mar is one of my favorite authors and she keeps raising the bar. DEFINITELY looking forward to reading more of this series.

Listen, if you are not a fan of very dark, morbid and triggering romance novels, this one will NOT be for you! Seriously heed my warning. -- And for the rest of us who don't mind and have a sick sense of novel romance and story telling, this one is insanely triggering and does nor hold back. Half the crap I read was, like, " DAMN!"
Apart from the serious themes in this one, the story telling is phenomenal. The characters are well fleshed out and 3 dimensional. The second installment in the Dark Universe does not slow down or soften.

So, let me tell you, I did NOT read the first part till AFTER I was done with this, I do not recommend reverse reading, but DEFINITELY read Part 1. This second part was hot, sexy and pulled on needs my soul didn't know i actually needed. I am very grateful and highly recommend these books to anyone wanting to live a "barbarian" fantasy. Both leads are sexy and forceful and take what they want. How delish. I adamantly wanted to crawl into the book just to be manhandled by Bernhard! "Where's my DeLorean?"

A plus and 5 stars!!!

After the breakout, Gero sits now on the throne and needs to strengthen his position. Assassins come to try to end his life, and in the North the opposition collects forces. In all that chaos, Idalia leaves the palace, only being captured by Severin and eventually brought to the enemy..
Dark and darker, the book is full of violence and abuse, pushing the limits with graphical descriptions and definitely triggering for some. It takes incredible strength of character to survive in this world and not go mad. It was a fast read full of action.

After reading Gero, I was absolutely expecting Bernhard to be at that level also but BOY.....this is a whole other level! I seriously got lost in this world and felt for Idahlia and her lovers desperately trying to get to her through blood, sweat, and tears. I was so close to finishing it for a week but I held off because I didn't want it to end! Then.....the end happened.....CASSIA HOLY MOLY! That left my mouth hanging open. As I've told YD La Mar personally; the darker the better! This is EVERYTHING I wanted and more. Keep writing please!

If you like grey or dark, this surpasses that. Book 2 continues after Idalia escaped and then was captured. There is so much going on there isn’t a pause or lag in events. Idalia is finally realizing she would have been better off with Gero and Bernhard after all of the hell she is going through. If you have triggers please read the warnings first because the author really dives in with her descriptions and makes you feel what these characters are going through.

After re reading gero as I didn't finish it originally because it was a bit too dark, I did manage though because the storyline sounded good and everyone was raving about it.

This book tells of Bernhard and his life and love for idalia and gero.
this book is much darker than gero but I did manage to read the whole thing.

I didn't think I would say this but can't wait to read about severin now
