About the author

Lincoln Peirce is a cartoon artist from Portland, Maine. He lives with his wife and two children, and occasionally gives lectures to students about cartoon creating. Peirce writes the comic strip "Big Nate". Peirce's comic strip, Big Nate, is featured as an island on the famous children's website, Poptropica. Big Nate appears as the first cartoon on The Maine Sunday Telegram in the comics section.

He studied art at Colby College in Maine were he began cartooning. He also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture before teaching art and coaching basketball at a New York highschool for 3 years. He currently plays hockey with "an old men's league" and describes it as his best sport as a child. In an interview with the Washington Post, Peirce stated that his last name is pronounced "purse" and is not a misspelling of "pierce."

Lincoln Peirce was a member of the "Surviving as a Print Cartoonist" Panel at the Maine Comics Art Festival with fellow cartoonists Corey Pandolph (Barkeater Lake, Toby: Robot Satan, The Elderberries), Norm Feuri (Retail, Gill) and with Mike Lynch moderating. On the panel Lincoln revealed he is currently working with some animation and licensing projects including the addition of a Big Nate island to the online game Poptropica.

Summary: Sixth-grader and self-proclaimed genius Nate Wright faces his all-time enemy, Gina, when they are paired to work on a research paper together and she also gets a position on his intramural team.

Fun, quick read that integrates traditional text and comics within the book. Kind of a mix of a graphic novel and a regular book. I liked the first book so I wanted to read the next one in the series. I think kids would really like it, especially boys. Nate is confident about his comics and his ability to captain his fleeceball team in the big school tournament. Not afraid to say what is on his mind, Nate is often in trouble with the teachers, the principal, and the school bully. Things are going well until he is assigned to work on a Ben Franklin Project with the person he hates most in this world, Gina (the teacher's pet) AND she is picked to be on his fleeceball team.

Funny parts I enjoyed: Nate creates some funny and original comic strips about what he learns about Ben Franklin. Nate selects the perfect name for his fleeceball team, Psycho Dogs, but when he doesn't tell the coach in time, Gina names the team the Kuddle Kittens.

Kids who love Greg Hefley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid are going to love Nate Wright. Parents will probably like Nate better.

Based on the comic strip “Big Nate” this series details the trials and tribulations of 6th grader Nate Wright. Nate finally has a chance to win the coveted SPOFFY Trophy (Sports Played Only For Fun). He’s been selected as a team captain for fleeceball – an indoor version of baseball. But nothing ever goes smoothly. Kept after school by a teacher, Nate is unable to make it to the meeting to pick his team. He lucks out and his best friends Teddy and Francis are on the team, but so is his archenemy – A+ know it all Gina! Not only does he have to put up with Gina on his fleeceball team, he’s paired with her on a social studies project. Can things get any worse or more hilarious?

The humor in this book is definitively age appropriate. As an elementary librarian I spend a good deal of time around young children. The humor is right on target, but it’s not so obnoxious (as some kid like humor – Captain Underpants for example – can be) that adults will not enjoy it as well. I love Jeff Kinney and his Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. But lets be honest, I think I like Nate better. (Don’t worry I’ll still anxiously await any new Wimpy Kid books.) Nate is one of those likeable characters. Always up to something, but so charming you can’t help but like him. If you work in a school, you know what I’m talking about.

As I mentioned in the beginning, I received an Advanced Readers’ Copy of this book. I liked it so much that not only am I going to recommend it to my students, I’ve already ordered a hard cover copy of this and the first book in the series for my library at home.

Recommended for 3rd grade and up. (The AR reading level is 3.0 and even though Nate is a 6th grader, based on my experience I’m pretty sure 3rd grade and older will enjoy this book.)

Jake's Review: This book wasn't as good as the first book, but I still really liked it. These books are so funny and they really remind me of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I know Nate doesn't like him, but I think Arthur is pretty cool and he is a really talented illustrator. Ellen is still an annoying know it all and I wish she wasn't in it at all, I can see why Nate is bugged by her. There was too much Gina in this, I don't like her at all. I thought it was really funny when Nate dropped food on Jenny, it totally made me laugh. I think my friends will feel the same way as me, that it was a good book, but the 1st one was much funnier. I love the things that Nate says to himself, he reminds me of me sometimes, except for he has a better imagination. So Mom when are you buying me the next book -- you're going to Chapters on Saturday right (Mom's note: Darn, I was only going to buy Mommy books)

Mom's Review: Honestly didn't even need to bother reading this since Jake told me the whole story when he was writing up his review. Must remind him about spoilers. But I read it anyway and I agree pretty much with Jake's opinion on this one. It isn't as good as the first book, but still definitely worth the price. Nate is a fun character and I really like the friendship between him and his two buddies. It is very realistic the way they diss each other. Trust me, I have watched Jake with his buddies Brian and Matthew and they love the dissing. Like the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, this is an awesome series for reluctant readers. There is a good mix between illustrations and writing to keep even the most reluctant reader interested. I really recommend these be part of all school and public libraries. Hopefully they will get the same attention as the Wimpy Kid books. BTW, there is a Librarian in this and really could you not have made her a little less stereotypical -- I know picky, picky.

I really enjoyed this book. Nate is made captain in the Fleeceball League, but he is stuck with his nemesis Gina on his team. To make matters worse, he is paired up with Gina for a project on Benjamin Franklin. He is stuck with her as a partner during and after school. The story is very funny, and I am not ashamed to admit that I laughed several times while reading this.

The greatest in his sides are a bully named Randy and a smug, a girl Nate really hates is a brainy girl named Gina who is obsessed with her academic performance. A character strength for Nate I think would be greedy, because he always so pushy with his friends and never wants to stop doing something with his friends

In my opinion, this book exceeds its predecessor on most levels. When at its best, the humor is fully on par with that of Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, and the storyline shows improved depth and creativity when compared to Lincoln Pierce's first novel-in-cartoons about Big Nate.

Nate Wright faces two big upcoming events at the same time as the book gets under way. The first is the handing out of a major project in the social studies class of the intimidating Mrs. Godfrey, Nate's least-favorite teacher. The project calls for two-person collaboration, and Nate is randomly matched for the assignment with his archenemy Gina, whose generally obsequious attitude toward scholastic achievement and teacher relations gets on Nate's nerves to an extent matched by few other students. Now he has to find a way to work peaceably with Gina in coming up with a quality social studies project, or he'll be in danger of failing the class.

The second big upcoming event as the book begins is the commencement of intramural sports season. Nate has been selected as captain of the Fleeceball (it's an indoor version of baseball) team, and he's eagerly gunning to win the coveted SPOFFY trophy for the first time. His luck with intramural sports hasn't always been great in the past, but this year he's entered in a sport at which he really excels, and he knows that his best opportunity to cop the award has finally arrived. There are only three problems: Nate's athletic nemesis, Randy Betancourt, has been named captain of the squad that poses the most serious threat to Nate's championship, Gina (!) has been assigned as a player on Nate's side, and a mixup with the deadline for choosing team names has led to Nate's team being named the "Kuddle Kittens"...which was, of course, Gina's idea.

The social studies project that Nate and Gina are collaborating on is to be a report about the life of Benjamin Franklin. Normally, Gina is a consistent A+ student and Nate barely gets passing grades because he doesn't care as much about excelling in academics, but when Nate begins to read about Benjamin Franklin, he finds something of a kindred spirit in the American founding father. History takes on a deeper sense of real life, and Nate begins to think that maybe the project won't be a drag after all.

The Fleeceball league championship and finished social studies project come together in unexpected ways, creating some surprising heroes as the stories reach their mutual conclusions. I think that Nate has really learned something by the end of this book, and what he learns isn't at all obvious or heavy-handed. Lincoln Pierce is a good writer, and Big Nate Strikes Again is a fine example of his overall creative ability.

Above all else, this book is ingeniously comical. I laughed as hard as I had while reading the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, and I can't say that very often. Big Nate Strikes Again was a great deal of fun to read, and if Lincoln Pierce can keep up this level of humor in future books, then I can't wait to get my hands on them and see what more Nate has in store for us. I would recommend Big Nate Strikes Again for anyone who enjoys the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and appreciates their distinctive brand of humor, or for anyone who, as in my case, absolutely loves the Big Nate comic strip and can't get enough of Nate Wright's adventures.

My book review for Big Nate Strikes again


Big Nate strike again was a great book I’m sure everyone would love the book. Big Nate aka Nate is stuck in middle school with his enemy Gina.
The story genre for this book is a realistic fiction because this could be happing to any middle schooler just as well. There up side to this story are when he gets in trouble and there’s cliff hanger that is wanting you to read more and more. Then there’s the down sides were Nate is just talking and talking and you get kind of board.


There are his enemy’s, his friends and his crush.
Enemies: Gina Always thinks she’s better than Nate
Atur, this person Nate is jealous of him because he has Nate’s crush
Friends: Teddy, Nate’s friend who he always jokes around with and gets in trouble with.
Francis, Nate’s friend who is a lot smarter than him and gets better grades than him.
Crush: Jenny, the girl Nate has a crush on but Nate is mad because she is already taken.



This book was very enjoyable even though it had its downsides I had a great time reading it. I gave this book three stars because it was funny but it wasn’t the most interesting book. I recommend this book for people who like comedy and humor.

This series is very similar in style to Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but I liked it better. It's told from the perspective of Nate, an average middle-school-aged boy and is riddled with cartoons, just like Wimpy Kid. The adolescent behaviors and attitudes are still present (which is the part I don't enjoy reading) however I find Big Nate less offensive than Wimpy Kid. On the positive side, this book centered around a social studies project, so the reader was able to learn a little Ben Franklin history and see some comparisons between the main character and Franklin. There were also some puzzles and messages in secret code intertwined throughout the book. I could see some fun extensions for students, such as creating their own Almanac like Franklin and the main character. Based on the single books I have read from each series, I would much prefer my own kids read Big Nate over Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Note: This was book #2. It is based on an actual comic strip.

I have recently finished Lincoln Peirce's Big Nate strikes again. It is about a boy named Nate, who does a lot of funny and crazy things, as a sixth grader, such as dumping salad onto to Gina's ( a person he hates ) head. This book is so hilarious that it almost made spit milk in my brother's face while I was reading it, when I was at the part when Nate comes down the stairs half naked when his arch-enemy Gina was there and he didn't even know it!!! that part was so funny because Nate's dad didn't seem to notice! There was also a part when he accidentally tripped on a dog's leash while he was riding on his skateboard and then his skateboard fell into the river!! I love the whole big Nate series so far because it is so funny and realistic. What makes it so realistic is that there are a lot of adjectives , like the most commonly used ones are: fast, crazy, funny, great, and of course, hate. I think anybody would like this book and think it was as hilarious as I did!

I think Nate books are entertaining. Nate isn't supposed to be a paragon of angelicness. He is a gifted 6th grader who doesn't always like following rules--much like many 6th graders I know. He is sometimes rude, but generally ends up getting his comeuppance so misbehavior isn't glamorized too much for those waffling parents out there. This book actually has a lot of really good information about Benjamin Franklin, too, so there's some education included. :)

it was a book with a subject you would never expect. My favorite character was Nate because he is so funny. It has amazing pictures you'd better not miss as they're part of the story. A good read I recommend for people who like to laugh. Big Nate Strikes Again is a good book to read.

In this book so far, it has been very funny and relatable. This book is funny because of how he compares things, and how he describes people. He is relatable because because he loves to play sports and hates homework. I predict that he will win the Championship with his team against Randy Betancourt, and his project will Gina will go good. I don't think that him and Gina are going to stop arguing and hating each other.

Well, this book is about a kid named Nate and that his teacher disliked him because he disrupted the class a lot. And that his baseball team is really bad and has a lot of people that are not good at all on the team. I liked this book because I really do love baseball and that's a sport I really love and I care for. I rate this book a 7/10. I recommend this book to people who love sports and that love funny characters and actually enjoy having the teachers yelling at students because they are very disrespectful.

I gave this book 3 stars because I thought it was another great Big Nate book. Nate must face the harsh news of Gina, Nate's rival and the class pet, joining his school "fleeceball" team, which is pretty much like baseball only the rules are a bit different. This was a good one, just as good as the first. Funny storyline, good characters- the first book made me read the second. I thought this was great, and this is a good book for all ages.

Problems why it cant be called that:-

1)He is always late cause he gets in trouble
2)Gina is in his team

Just because of these two problems

It is called the “The Kuddle Kittens” aka the worst fleece ball name.....

The book is so hilarious way better than the Wimpy kid series for sure

This was another book I found on my shelf when I was cleaning up my room over the break. I decided to see what it was all about. I thought the book was a longer version of a comic. It was a good quick 2 hour read. I would probably not read again, but for a one time read, it was good. The main character Nate for me was always annoying. The whole story is based on him dumping food onto a girl named Gina by accident. It had no great or horrible parts.I feel this is more of a Sunday morning book than an intense long thriller book. Overall, I would give it a 6/10

Big Nate Strikes Again by, Lincoln Peirce is a cool book personally think it’s a cool book because it’s pretty much a graphic novel, and every once a while I like reading graphic novel such like the “Big Nate” books and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” books. I like them because the “Big Nate” books it’s funny how the difference he acts around Gina and Jenny and all their little problems along the book. And also that how in this book Randy and Nate are totally against each other, and Randy is either getting caught and not Nate or that when they both get caught and Randy gets in trouble for and Nate doesn’t for ONCE.!!

ROFL. Hilarious, a riot. And Fred Berman's audio book narration is masterful and really brings the humor to life. He does multiple voices, accents, and sound effects. He had my daughter and I belly laughing while listening in the car to and from school each day.
