His life belongs to the shadows. His heart belongs to her. When she faces the ultimate peril, can love save them in time?
After years of military service, Ranger sells his soul to the CIA and becomes the monster who does their dirty work. He becomes an assassin—a ghost. With only his dog for company, he longs for a good woman, but a good woman deserves a good man. Especially a woman like Camryn, who lives next door. Watching her renovate her half of their duplex, Ranger learns she’s sweet and sexy as hell. He tries to resist her, thinking she’s too pure to taint with his darkness. However, when her life is in danger from investigating a local killing spree, Ranger must finally confront his true feelings. She holds his heart—his life—in her hands.
Convinced that a series of murders are connected, Camryn is determined to prove it with journalistic tenacity, even if her boss is skeptical. One rainy night along with an impulsive decision puts Camryn face to face with her hunky neighbor instead of a lead for her story. He growls more than he speaks and always keeps his distance, but he is handy with tools. Camryn can tackle most of her home reno to-do list, but Ranger’s help goes a long way. But Camryn soon discovers dismantling the wall Ranger has built around his heart will take the same patience and care as raising her precious butterflies.
As Camryn gets closer to finding the killer, she also gets closer to Ranger. She knows that beauty and love can break free from even the toughest shells. But will he emerge from his cocoon of isolation loving her back or shutting her out forever?
Read this while on vacation, and it was the perfect getaway read! Just the right length to devour in the evenings after busy family days. Cam and Ranger might be my favorite couple of Robert’s books so far. She did an amazing job bringing a scatterbrained, ADHD heroine to life, and Ranger had me wanting to scream, ‘Why are you being so foolish?!’ This story made me swoon, laugh, and held just the right amount of suspense.
On week 5 of knowing each other they had sex and said I love you. I’m confused and maybe a little harsh but the “romance” and “mystery killer” was not it for me. Super short read but the book should’ve been free honestly. I feel bad because most reviews liked it but I’ve just read too many good romance and thrillers and was comparing the whole time lol
