Bratva Kings #2

Savage Reign

Rate this book
Bratva kingpin Nikolai Zhukov is the devil in a tailored suit—lethal, ruthless, and utterly irresistible.

Once, he saved my life. Now, he owns me. As his wife. As his prisoner.

He tore me from my world and branded me with his touch, a wedding ring inked into my skin.

Trapped in his gilded cage, I’m nothing but a pawn in his brutal war—a means to an end in his deadly game against a rival syndicate.

But he doesn’t just want my submission. He wants to consume me—body, mind, and soul.

I swore I’d fight him, that I’d never give in. But with every heated glance, every forbidden touch, I’m losing ground.

Because monsters like Nikolai don’t just steal hearts.

They destroy them.

*Savage Reign is a forced marriage mafia romance. It has no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after. Can be read as a complete standalone.

H/h were forcibly married but go their separate ways, their marriage was supposed to be annulled but he registers it secretly to use it as leverage later. 5 years later, the time comes and he shows up to kidnap her, too bad she doesn't recognize her own husband.

safety - both with op during separation. h lost her virginity to someone the previous year on a hookup and H/h hookup just before he kidnaps her. he was in jail for the last 2 years and out now for a few weeks, no mention if he had slept with anyone else since he's been out, i chose to be believe he didn't.

i would've preferred if H was celibate since he was the only one who knew that his marriage to her was real but he has been with ow during separation, although he didn't give off the vibe of a hoe. it was only implied and no ow is mentioned even in his inner monologue. he has eyes only for h even when he tries to resist her, that i can live with.

Once upon a time, Nikolai saved Sofiya by marrying her. However, since she was only 17 years old, he realized he couldn't keep her and chose to let her go, allowing her to live happily ever after. She went to college and discovered her passion for dance. Now, he needs something; she is the perfect pawn to help him get what he wants.

Sofiya may be Niko's captive, but she isn't going down without a fight. Each day, she reminds him just how miserable he has made her. Their interactions are filled with hilarious banter and intense sexual tension; though she insists that she hates him, her body tells a different story.

𝑰𝒕'𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒔𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒉 𝒐𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒆.

Niko is a brooding, hot-headed Pakhan with a filthy mouth, and he loves to get under Sofiya's skin. To show her he means business, he puts an ankle monitor on her to track her every movement, and also, when she refuses to wear his ring, he tattoos his initials and bratva crest on her finger. At first, their relationship is purely business, but as he spends more time with her, she affects him in ways he has never experienced. Niko values control but finds himself losing it whenever she's around, and that's something he cannot allow, especially given his position.

I hate comparing sisters and everything, but Liza was such a better FMC. Maybe Sofiya was too coddled for the world and Liza did her a disservice by protecting her too much. Whatever it is, it made Sofiya an unlikeable and very immature and dumb FMC. She made decisions which made no sense. She assumed way too many things. I wasnt a fan of Nikolai either but for different reasons. I wish he had been celibate because hes the one that knew he was married. I wasnt a fan of the whole drama with his "mistress". It felt shallow and added in for no reason. Not every book can be a winner.

The Facebook hook for Savage Reign got me to read it. “When your husband’s mistress has the nerve to show up at your party!” My response was an immediate download. For those who don’t like cheating—there is none. But there is a possessive mafia guy who tattoos a wedding ring on the woman he loves. He wants to make sure everyone knows she is his.

Nico and Sofiya have a history, but time has passed. Sofiya believes they have no ties to each other, but Nico is taking advantage of their past and kidnaps her. Between Nico doing mafia stuff, the romance between him and Sofiya, and several good spicy scenes, I thought Savage Reign was a pretty good Mafia story. I might be so inclined to read the other books in the series.

"It was always yours, Sofiya. My home, my heart, my soul- they belong to you and always have.

Wholeheartedly loved this. I really enjoyed the first in this series and was eagerly awaiting Nikolai and Sofiya, who were teased at the end of Ruthless Reign. And it was so good!

Nikolai was such a simp for Sofiya, even while he was her captor. Turns out their marriage has been valid for five years, and he finally cashes in on this plan- by kidnapping Sofiya in order to force her brother-in-law Roman into a deal.

Sofiya is understandably angry with Nikolai but also can't deny the attraction between them. The chemistry is SO good I really loved them. We slowly see Nikolai realize what he's done, and Sofiya worms her way into his heart. He takes her shopping! And out for ice cream! He wants to watch her dance! and take care of her! These two were so adorable

4/5 stars 3/5 spice

For a mafia romance this was incredibly sweet. Although Niko captures Sofiya, he is never rough with her. He doesn’t yell, lie (after he captures her), or hurt her. In fact, he does what he can to make her happy. His possessiveness and protectiveness made me really love him. Whenever he referred to her as ‘my wife’, it was super hot.

Niko has lived a hard life and has been betrayed by the one person closest to him that he did everything for. You can understand why he does what he does and why Sofiya ends up falling for him.

Everyone in Niko’s bratva is a likeable character that adds to the story, like Eva and Vadim. The people who turn on him are pretty obvious from the start but it doesn’t take away from the story.

I really enjoyed this one and would highly recommend it if you love your mafia romances on the sweeter side.

when a grumpy russian pakhan marries you five years ago to save your life but then become strangers again. but are you really though ? especially when he tattoos his initials and bratva symbol on your ring finger ? what if he constantly says “my wife” ? 👀

this is book two in the bratva kings series. you should definitely start with book one just to get a bit more insight on sofiya and nikolai !!

i was given the amazing opportunity to arc read this. monica kayne just hits all the right spots for me in this book world. i love every single character. they’re all so different and unique. getting back into this book world and seeing some old characters in the series makes my heart so happy !!

forced marriage, he tattoos his bratva symbol and his initials onto her ring finger, obsessed and possessive mmc, dancer fmc, lots of “my wife”, brat taming, knife play, stalking, ankle monitor in a form of a diamond chain, captor / captive, age gap, and hades and persephone inspired 🖤

at the end of book one niko saves sofiya by marrying her and after that, she spent the next few years dilly dallying with her life. getting her life back together, going back to school and finding her love for dance. all this time she thinks that there wasn’t anything legally tied to the marriage between her and nikolai. she thinks there’s no legal paperwork or even anything up with the whole situation. but this whole time she’s always been on niko’s mind. he’s been stalking her and keeping tabs on her. when he comes up with a business deal with the syndicate to allow him to expand and build a casino, he was denied because he wasn’t family. that has him thinking back to sofiya and their marriage all those years ago and uses her to his advantage to get what he wants. but now … what he wants is her 🥰 this man literally dropped everything and risked his life to claim her and prove to her that she’s more than just a pawn. their connection is full of tension and chemistry. they lose the fight in denying the pull towards each other. everything about them is pure perfection 🫀

nikolai and sofiya’s story is full of twists and turns, push and pull. they both suffer from trust issues, abandonment, and fear of loving someone so deeply they can’t breathe. niko had to take down his own brother in book one because his brother tried to kill him. and sofiya’s parents used her like a cattle to settle their debts. these two quickly became my favorites !! the way they both fell hard for each other was everything and i ate it the fuck up 😭 i love them so much !!

“Savage Reign” by Monica Kayne .... or as I like to call it, Fifty Shades of Forced Marriage Meets the Bratva Boys Club™ 😅💍🔫

Okay, deep breath... because this book had potential like, serious potential. The premise? 🔥 Accidental marriage. Mafia drama. Forbidden attraction. The promise of a big, broody man who’s secretly a cinnamon roll for his woman. I was ready. I cleared my reading schedule, poured myself a questionable amount of coffee ☕, and jumped in thinking I’d be swooning by chapter five. Spoiler: I was not swooning. I was mostly frowning. 😐

So here’s the tea 🍵:
We’ve got Nikolai, our “dark, dangerous, emotionally constipated” Bratva king 👑 who wants power and blood ties to get it. Enter Sofiya, who once upon a time was held hostage, rescued, and oh yeah—accidentally married to him. (As one does in mafia land, apparently.) He then, for reasons that make sense only in mafia-romance logic, decides to make the marriage real. Because why not traumatize the girl and file the paperwork, right? 😬

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love me some morally gray alpha heroes. But Nikolai was less “dark and tortured” and more “send this man to therapy, please.” 🧠💔 The whole tattoo thing? 🚩🚩🚩 If someone forces me to get inked, I’m calling the FBI, not falling in love.

Sofiya... oh Sofiya. Girl, I wanted to root for you! You’re artistic, kind, and have a heart for helping underprivileged kids, but you also have the self-preservation instincts of a Disney princess in a horror movie. 🫠 You’ve been kidnapped, manipulated, and married against your will… and your big rebellion is sneaking to a club for a one-night stand before moving to Berlin? Girl, blink twice if you need help!

The chemistry between them had its moments 😏🔥 I won’t lie, some of the spicy bits did something, but then it was immediately followed by a scene so awkward or controlling that my brain screamed, “RED FLAG! TURN BACK!” 🛑

The mafia plot itself? Interesting! Guns, casinos, betrayal all the classics. But it felt like I was reading two different books stitched together with smut and angst glue. By the end, I was skimming like I was auditioning for Speed Reading: The Musical. 🎭📖

The ending? Rushed. Like “we’re running late for the epilogue” rushed. And that big twist about the traitor? Saw it coming from miles away. 👀✨

On the bright side, there were redeeming parts. I liked that Nikolai eventually shows genuine care for Sofiya, even if it took him forever and a half to get there. His gesture with the dance school donating to help disadvantaged kids was actually really sweet. 🩰💖 For a moment, I thought, “Ah, there’s the man she could’ve loved in another book!”

Overall, Savage Reign was like ordering a five-star mafia romance and getting the wish.com version. It’s got all the right tropes: forced marriage, enemies to lovers, power games, but somehow it all felt off. I wanted a brutal king who melts for his queen… not a dude who confuses manipulation for affection. 😩

Final thoughts?
If you love spicy mafia reads and don’t mind some serious suspension of disbelief (and a few questionable relationship dynamics), go for it. But if you’re like me and prefer your romance with a little more respect and a lot less coercion, you might end up sighing more than swooning. 😅💔

Yanlış giden bir zoraki evlilik yapmacık sanılırken 5 sene sonra gerçeğe dönüşüyor. 2. El Neva Altaj tarzı Moscow- St. Petersburg ekseninde geçen güzel bir çerezlik hikaye. İlk kitabı okumadım çok da sorun etmedim.

I don't know how Monica Kayne manages to do it but she's done it again. Hands down and by far, she is one of my absolute favorite mafia romance authors. Savage Reign is another hit.

Nikolai and Sofiya's love story was just absolute perfection. The chemistry, the fight, the lust. God bless it, I was on the edge of my seat. Niko, you big dummy, you were lost for Sofi the moment you saw her dance. And Sofi, you little idiot, you were lost back in Greece. I don't know if I have rooted for a couple more.

Even beyond the relationship though, the plot was also fantastic. It was fairly predictable as far as the actual villain, but it's a mafia romance. Predictability is fairly par for the course. But seeing as how I've rated this 5 stars and immediately want to reread everything Kayne has written, I am not faulting it for it.

Savage Reign is book 2 in the Bratva Kings series from this new to me author. I didn't read book 1, but I though this one read fine as a standalone. Now while I did enjoy the book, I definitely didn't love it as much as I hoped especially with several of my favorite tropes. I thought Niko and Sofia had great chemistry but overall, I found the book slow. I did enjoy how their relationship eventually grew but I needed more. At some point I will go back and read book 1 with Sofia's older sister.

whoever said this book was good is a liar.

i found myself skimming through it sometimes because some scenes were so goddamn drawn out, like ENOUGH. thank you next bish.

plot? i don’t know her. i thought i was following it at times then the most random shit would happen which completely disregarded everything that had happened so far.

they really said put every single mafia tripe possible in there and it still didn’t work.

I absolutely devoured this book. I could tell early on that this was going to be a 5-star read and I was not disappointed. This book has everything – action, spice, betrayal, grand gestures, and gut-wrenching moments. This is book 2 in the Bratva Kings series, and while it can be read as a standalone, it does contain spoilers for book 1. Roman and Liza are the MCs in book 1, and Sofiya, this book’s FMC, is Liza’s little sister. If you're considering reading the first book (trust me, you should), I recommend starting there. A pivotal scene from book one is revisited from Niko’s perspective early in this book, and you won’t want it spoiled.

One of the things that immediately made me fall in love with this book is that Nikolai is the villain of the story, in the beginning. (He never actually hurts Sofiya – he was a hero at the end of the last book and is very protective of her in this one – but forced marriage and abduction are pretty villainous.) This contrasts with Roman, the MMC from book one, who was more of a morally grey hero. I was excited to see how Nikolai would redeem himself, especially with the fallout from kidnapping the acting head of the largest Russian Bratva’s sister-in-law. The mafia element of the story was thrilling, filled with suspense and action, and, of course, we get the satisfying comeuppance of the true villain.

This book picks up 5 years after the events of book 1. Sofiya is just about to graduate from a dance academy in Moscow, with a dream of becoming a professional dancer in Berlin, to gain freedom she can’t have in Russia, given her bratva ties. Nikolai has rebuilt his Zhukov Bratva in St. Petersburg and is in business with Roman’s Belov Syndicate. I don’t want to give too much away, but basically, unbeknownst to Sofiya, she and Nikolai have been married for the 5 years and now he plans to use her as a bargaining chip. It’s an age gap romance. She’s 22 and he’s 34.

Despite Sofiya being held against her will, these two have undeniable chemistry. There’s so much tension because even though he’s a dark and dangerous bratva boss who takes what he wants, he’s not going to 🦆 her until she begs 😈 (they do other things, though). The spice in this is so hot. They’re perfect for each other. She melts his ice-cold heart and he, ironically, gives her the freedom to discover what she really wants in life and where her true passion lies. They’ve both had hard lives, though hard in different ways, and they find healing in each other. I also appreciated seeing Niko’s internal conflict – his growing feelings for Sofiya in contrast with the ruthless persona he had created.

I loved the side characters in this. We get to see some favourites from Ruthless Reign and we meet Niko’s found family, who are hilarious, loyal and supportive. The banter between him and his two right hands was very entertaining.

I love this kind of mafia romance. The MMC has red flags, but the relationship is not particularly dark.

If you like tension, heat, high-stakes romance, emotional depth, and a redemption arc, this book is for you. If you like Sadie Kincaid and SJ Tilly’s mafia romance books, I think you’ll like these.

✨E-ARC Review✨

A mafia romance, with a grumpy MMC that never fails to drop a “my wife” - now this absolutely hit the spot right there.

Savage Reign is book two in the Bratva Kings series, and if you read book one you are most certainly aware of how Nikolai and Sofiya’s story began. And how did that begin might you ask? Well Sofiya and her side Eliza were taken and while Eliza was saved by her now husband, Nikolai saved Sofiya by marrying her and may I just mention he never had the marriage annulled 👀.

So yes book two picks up about 5 years after the events of book one. Sofiya has moved on in her life finding love in dance and Nikolai rebuilds his empire. Now, while Sofiya and Nikolai remained apart for the last 5 years doesn’t mean that Nikolai kept a close eye on her.

When Nikolai’s business proposition is rejected by the Syndicate he decides to take Sofiya to force their hand. While at the beginning Nikolai’s primary focus was to of course get what he wanted, he plans changed fairly quickly and now all he wanted was for Sofiya to stay with him willingly as his wife and let me tell you that man does absolutely everything to give her the world🥹

Nikolai is most certainly your typical bratva boss. He’s possessive of Sofiya, and when I say possessive I mean it.. as he does tattoo his family crest and initial on to her ring finger👀 Also that man never fails to drop a “my wife” whenever he can which had me constantly swooning😫. I loved that Sofiya fought Nikolai at every turn, she refused to be a pawn in his game and challenged him whenever she could.

The chemistry between these two was absolutely off the charts.😮‍💨

Niko and Sofiya’s story was full of twists and turns👏🏼

I look forward to diving deeper into this world in the near future.

Thank you so much to the author who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭

🌶️🌶️🌶️

This book had me realizing some things about myself and I loved everything about it😌👌🏽.

This is the second book in the Bratva Kings series and it follows Sofia and Nikolai’s story after their ‘forced marriage’ situation in book 1. Nikolai and the Syndicate aren’t able to come to a deal on his new project for different reasons which leads Nikolai to take matters into his own hand and use Sofia as his pawn.

This was an easy quick read but what I didn’t expect was to fall for Nikolai along with Sofia!! Like that man had a soft spot for Sofia from the beginning which turned into a love so fierce that even he couldn’t fight it.

Their forced marriage situation was filled with tension from both sides. Even after years of that traumatic day, Sofia couldn’t forget about Nikolai and how he saved her. However, she fought that attraction hard when she got kidnapped again by him. She struggled with the idea that her freedom had been taken away from her again and even though this time was different. I liked how her mindset changed. Even after she realized Niko may not be the monster he portrays to be and with all his help, she still wanted to do more on her own especially when it came to her starting her dance school charity.

And Nikolai, holding so much pain within had his cold heart thawed fully by Sofia. He was possessive, he was intense, but damn was he good in showing his love through his actions. He did anything he could to make her feel comfortable even with the situation he put her in. This man will have you swooning, and daydreaming. He motivated her to spend his money by matching whatever she spent to send to a charity of her choice?! I know he’s a mafia leader but that was a major green flag for me🤭👌🏽.

When I say they got down, boy did they get down. This was spice upon spice. I mean Nikolai is a whole freak that takes his breakfast, lunch and dinner from his wife very seriously ‘if you know what I mean😌’. He took care of Sofia in more ways than one and she was there for the whole ride.

The suspense in this book was good with the forbidden love and tension between both mafia families as it all unraveled. The plot twists may have been an easy guess but the way it was executed was done really well.

All in all I really enjoyed this book that I finished it in a day!!!
Thank you again to Monica Kayne for gifting me a copy!

Savage Reign, is the second book in the Bratva Kings Series, and my first read of Monica Kayne's, and it certainly did not disappoint. Nikolai Zhukov, is a delicious specimen, that could capture me any day. How do I sign up? Move over, Sofiya, do not let your jealousy show. Are you in the mood for a darkish mafia romance with the added touch of a age gap forced marriage, Savage Reign is sure to have your little black heart pitter padding.

Nikolai and Sofiya, come face to face at what is suppose to be her wedding day to Sergey Zhukov, a nightmare in waiting. However, Roman and Nikolai have other plans, ones that do not involve Liza and Sofiya marrying their abductors. Roman, Liza and Sofiya, thought they would be leaving the past in the past, but Nikolai had a contingency plan in place, waiting for the right time to put that plan into action, and the time has come when Roman and the Syndicate deny Niko of his casino contract.

Savage Reign, will leave you on the edge of your seat with anticipation. I literally, could not put Niko and Sofiya's book down. Nikolai, is the MMC with a dark past full of betrayal, and is determined to have power, and not let the people that is closest to him, get the chance to betray him, again. However, he did not plan for the affect Sofiya would have on him. Sofiya, is sassy spit fire FMC that cares deeply for the ones she loves, determined to not let the scars of her past destroy
her. The chemistry between these two characters is undeniable.

In my opinion, Savage Reign had a cohesive coherent storyline, with noteworthy character dynamics. One that kept my attention from beginning to end. I highly recommend Niko and Sofiya's story.

There is no proper way to describe how much I loved this book.
1) Mafia book = already my favorite
2) Enemies to lovers = go ahead and make my heart melt.
3) This rough, tough & irresistible hot Mafia lord is actually a big softie when it comes to his wife = like I'm done for.

This book was exceptionally sweet for it being a mafia book where Niko comes back in Sofiya's life 5 years later after saving her life at 17 and holds her against her will in order to gain entrance into her brother in law's territory...which I don't know, a man who has been a thought in my mind even after 5 years later, is even more hot than he was then and he wants to claim me that I'm his wife?? I'm not sure I'd put up much of a fight.

But that is not Sofiya, who is a pretty badass woman who stands up to Niko and is not intimidated by his status in the Bratva. But even the badass woman can't deny the tension between herself and Niko... and when she finally gives in....F I R E W O R K S!!!!

Monica Kayne really gave Savage Reign fantastic supporting side characters that make this book great along with adding some comic relief here and there during what should be serious moments.

10/10... 5 Stars... Recommending this book to EVERYONE!

47. "Bratva Kings #2 Savage Reign" Monica Kayne 394

genres: Dark Romance Mafia Romance Enemies To Lovers
ranking: solidly good, nothing more, a dependable read 6.5/10

the first line:
“Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life.”

I am grateful to this book for ...
highlighting that it's important to ask yourself what you really want.

notes:
-- Sofiya is a multifaceted person, dancing, cooking, reading, with a deep desire to help less fortunate
-- lacks proper communication between the characters
-- both characters are fighting their attraction
-- I deeply enjoyed the fact that the mmc supports the mfc, and finds a key to her heart with charity: donating to a dance school and buying her her own school for children from disadvantageous circumstances
-- the mafia plot is interesting and tumultuous; arms deals, casino, betrayal, negotiations, blackmail

quotes:
“There,” I say, picking up a fork. “Happy now?”
“Ecstatic.”

“Liar,” she shoots back, narrowing her eyes. “You were practically hoarding the pistachio.”
“Because it was damn good,” I tease. “I’m a believer.”

The second book in the Bratva Kings series and it did not disappoint.
I was intrigued how the jump from the ending of the first book to this one would work, but I thought it was really well done.
So, five years after the events of the first book, Sofiya and Nikolai haven't seen each other again, kind of, but when Nikolai needs something from The Syndicate, Nikolai knows exactly the way to get it - by using Sofiya. Sofiya isn't having any of it (rightfully so), but the two of them just have this pull that is getting harder to resist with every second they spend together.
I liked the two of them together a lot. There was banter, there was angst and an interesting plot. I like watching (reading) them fight their feelings, whilst also not being able to really resist each other (forced proximity is a bitch at those times lol). And I, of course, always love an OTT MMC done right (who lies to himself a lot, something about only wanting power etc etc :)))!

Thank you Monica Kayne for the ARC!

Savage Reign is the second book in the BRATVA KINGS series. At the end of book one Sofiya and Nikolai were married before he saved her. She spent the last 5 years thinking it wasn't legal since there was no paperwork. Even though she hasn't seen him since, Sofiya has thought about Nikolai all the time. She's also been on his mind all this time and he's been keeping tabs on her. When he needs The Syndicate to let him build a casino in Moscow, they say no and he releases his plan to bring them down. He takes Sofiya and tells her that he used his power as pakhan to make their marriage legal. Sofiya and him have this pull towards each other but she tries to fight it. Soon they both realize they don't have true feelings for each other. Now they have to get The Syndicate to not take Nikolai down. There were some twists and turns, people he thought her could trust, turn against Nikolai. Will his and Sofiya's relationship work?
