Chase Conrad didn’t get along with people. But that didn’t mean he wanted the world to end. Not like this.
High in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, he receives a call that an asteroid is going to wipe out civilization. Not something you hear every day. Torn between hiding out in the mountains and returning to the family farm in Northern Idaho. Chase choses home. His sister and cousins will need him. Unfortunately, three young people and a trial of endurance interfere with his plans.
Meagan Foster never expected the world to end. Earthquakes, Volcanoes, EMPs, Oh yeah, starvation. None of it was expected.
Forced to make a choice, stay and fight the mobs tearing the city apart or the long desert road, one thing was obvious, the only chance she and her two younger brothers had was this strange boy walking out of the mountains. Four young people must fight the desert, natural disasters, and what used to be left of civilization to reach safety.
I have enjoyed this series enough to keep reading, but sentence structure needs work. Lots of fragments and run ons. Also a few more edits could catch incorrect word use (example: brother’s life when referring to brothers’ lives). Each story follows the same plot: impending asteroid hits the west coast, causing earthquakes and wild weather while crossing the US to grandpa’s farm in Idaho. Each group had to endure traveling hundreds of miles in this new world with no electricity or modern transportation. Each group met Idaho soldiers’ barricade, finding a different path to the farm all while the young couple declaimed their undying love for one another. This 3rd book did a better job of building up those feelings and the internal emotional turmoil with the development of said feelings. However, it was still too quick at the end for the undying love speeches when the male figure almost dies. It will be interesting to read whom Cassie finds to bring home with her for the family reunion in Idaho!
Nate Johnson’s reliance on the soul-pulling pretty girl and the manual-labour boy shows a complete lack of understanding of real human dynamics. It is a caricature of life, not a story.
The Vibe: Repetitive, offensive, and technically incompetent. The Hook: More of the same asteroid-bound survival, but with even less effort. Gender Stereotypes: Revolting. The writing reduces human connection to a pretty girl needing help and a strongly built boy doing manual labour. It is shallow and patronising. The Grammar: Appalling. Mixing up here and hear is the final straw. The lack of basic proofreading is an insult to any reader's intelligence. The Story: Recycled. It is the exact same template as the previous two books. There is no growth, no new ideas, and zero originality." The Verdict: DNF. Life is too short for poorly written, sexist tropes and a story that refuses to evolve.
Recycled story line and lack of proofreading make it a painful read
This story, along with the previous two books, follow the same formula. Family member warned of disaster, finds random stranger, can't stand random stranger, falls in love with random stranger, both have, misunderstandings over feelings, they pick up random impediments along the way, almost die, fall in love and all survive for happy ending.
What made it worse was the lack of proofreading. Threes instead of trees, previous book Britney was spelled multiple ways including Briney.
This could have been a decent book series, but laziness and predictability made it a difficult read
"I noticed the soldiers where supper alert on the trip back."
This is taken directly from the book. If Mr. Johnson would have even bothered to read over his material after he finished, perhaps there would not be so many typos and misspelled words. It's sad that an author does not have enough pride in his work to put out the best product that he can.. I've only read 1 other author who was worse when it came to these types of errors.
Book 2 was also as bad Book 3 Ihas as many mistakes as nooks 1 and 2 .. combined PLEASE....hire an editor, a proofreader..... ....Soooo many misspelled words makes reading a difficult challenge I like the basic stories but get a GOOD proofreader, any maybe use a little more imagination
All 3 of these books follow the same process... Boy meets girl / girl meets boy they fall in love but afraid to tell the other one
I'm hooked! There's no way I will not follow this series to the end. There's a family coming together with very significant others. Some are still missing and I need to know their stories. For now starvation is the greatest menace for the many people out in the world. Though there's plenty of evil growing there's love and compassion as well. Awesome writing Mr Johnson!
Although I have enjoyed this series I do have a few issues. All books followed a similar and repetitive sequence. At one point the exact words were used in two different stories. I also feel the characters are a little young to be portrayed as such, however this would be a good read for teens. Characters in both series I have read have been almost identical ...not a lot of depth. Having said all that I did enjoy story line and it was a fast read.
If the author was truly trying to make a character that was TSTL then they succeeded. I found myself so annoyed at the character Megan that it ruined the story in general. She was just completely unlikable . Everything about the character was off putting. Her inner dialogue was so irritating it made me hate her more. This was book 3 in the series and definitely my least favorite. I also noticed a lot more editing errors in this book.
It's a pretty good novel, but like his other end of the world novels they are basically using the end of the world as the backdrop to a romance between a tall handsome young man and a damsel in distress who takes time to realise she needs to bear his children.
I am really enjoying this series. Great story and development of characters. Minus all the gore. I can imagine it but I don’t need detailed descriptions. I liked Chase character, he’s not a jock but someone who has learned from his Grandfather how to survive and not helpless. Good series
Meagan is the most insufferable character. In all honesty though I feel like I would be her if put in the same situation. This was very similar to the first book so got a little bored. I found myself speed reading during the proclamations of falling in love.
Quote: Do you really think I would say those words if I didn't mean them? I sound like a Hallmark movie.
An asteroid hits and human civilization breaks down quickly. The book covers the stories of various people who try to re-unite with loved ones but having to face burning cities, looting, shooting and tremendous violence in order to do so.
The characters are well done, the situation they face is realistic and the level of violence fits the event.
Endure is The End of Times Book 3. This is a series which should be read in order. It is very enjoyable and I truly liked the characters. I sincerely wish the editing was not so bad.
This one is also a 3.5 rounded down (like #4) because (by now) the formula is getting a little old. I still skimmed it, but I kind of found Meagan to be the most annoying of all the girls, so I definitely moved through this quickly.
Not my favorite from the series but still good. I did think their relationship was a little rough in the beginning because they wouldn’t talk to each other, if Megan and Chase would have just communicated they wouldn’t have gotten together sooner.

This series is really good! Each characters story is different and this one didn’t disappoint. Chase and Meagan making their way to Idaho is a good story.
