The Bone Love #1

Pretty Little Island

Rate this book
Torn between two lovers on a pretty but deadly island, London King must survive the ravages of the wilderness and a battle for her heart.

My first day at New Ocean Prep was supposed to be a fresh start. A chance to return to my hometown—leaving my ruined life behind me. My goal is simple. Keep my grades up, my head down, and focus on securing my spot in a top journalism program.

My past catches up with me as I'm drawn towards the two hottest hockey players in school. A trip to a national hockey tournament in Alaska has me investigating the truth behind what happened to a girl they tormented and killed two summers earlier.

This story has more layers than I imagined. The deeper I enter their world, the stronger our bonds become until I can’t tell whose side I’m really on.

pi-Zap-8 '𝐏R𝐄T𝐓Y L𝐈T𝐓L𝐄 𝐈S𝐋A𝐍D' Is the first full length romance book within the (The Bone Love) series by new to me Author. Ends in cliffy.

I don't know how or why this popped up on my feed, but I went and #oneclicked it and started it last night and bugga it all I'm kind of hooked..

The two hot hockey twins who run the school, but there's a murder mystery with fingers that point to them that she's determined to uncover.

Not going to lie, in the beginning if Alpha was used more than it was I would’ve given up, it sounded like the national discovery narrator (David Attenborough) talking about the alpha male in the wild 🤣

After the first chapter and that term dropped I started falling in love with the path the author was leading me down.

Once the plane crashed and it was all about survival I was all in.

I didn’t sleep, one chapter turned into more, I couldn’t put it down. These characters turned feral.

Death
Murder
Mayhem

This had so many twists and turns, dark, gritty, I've been craving a book like this one and I'm so glad I took that plunge and purchased this, now I'm excited to read the rest of the series!!

You're mine, baby. Whether you want me is irrelevant now."

Loved every minute of this dark new adult novel.

London is the new kid at New Ocean Prep, having fled Portland after a scandal at her local high school. She's trying to find her place in her new town among wealthy peers she can't relate to, and seems to find it at the school paper.

But everything changes when she boards a plane bound for Alaska with the school hockey team and it goes down, killing almost everyone on board and leaving the rest of them stranded on a pretty--but deadly--little island with winter looming. London must figure out a way to live with them, knowing at least one of them is a murderer. Her life depends on it.

Specifically on the twin brothers in question, neither of whom she can stay away from.

This was an addictive read from start to finish and different from anything I have read recently. If you like high school angst, spice, and survival stories with a twist, I highly recommend this read.

I can't wait for part two. Hopefully, Nigel dies because fuck that guy.

I was asked to read Pretty Little Island but the Author’s PA. This is not an ARC. I read PLI on my Kindle through KU.

I went into reading this blind. I am so glad I did it that way. The tone of the beginning is not the same as the the rest of the book.

The boom starts off with gossip girl vibes. FMC London is back in her hometown after being gone 8 years. Something happened that made her come back to live with her dad and go to an elite high school of the rich.

London decides to work for the school paper. She is approached by the head of the paper with a undercover project, expose two brothers for their part in the death another female student.

Turns out the two brothers are the hockey stars of the school and they are identical TWINS! Enter MMCs Micah and Maison. The twins also are rumored to share women. Also even though they are completely opposite in personality they switch places with each other without anyone knowing.

While traveling to a hockey game London is to go undercover with the guise of coving the hockey game to get info and closer to the twins.

The twist…they never make it to the hockey game. Their plane crashes leaving them stranded on an island where they have to fight for survival. Lines get blurred London starts to fall for both brothers. Who will she choose, what happens when they find out what she had planned from the beginning.

I gave Pretty Little Island 5 stars. It kept me engaged the whole time! I never could predict where the story was going to go. Very excited to read the next one!

The writing, the imagery, the spice, and the suspense were phenenomal. I went into this book blind and I could never guess what was coming. I'm going to recommend it to everyone I know till the end of time!! You feel EVERYTHING. As if you are there with them surviving on this pretty little Island.

It's been a long time since I read a book and had nothing negative to say. I hope this book gets HUGE. I highly recommend you read this right now.

I received Pretty Little Island in return for a review as part of the tour hosted by Chaotic Influencers.

After the scandal at her old school London is starting fresh at a new school with all new classmates. She scores a spot with on the journalism group and gets the chance to accompany the hockey team to Alaska. When the plane goes down they will all best tested and she will learn who she can trust and secrets will come out. Will they all survive the Alaskan wildlife or will it be to much.

I liked Landon a lot she's not perfect she's made her share of mistakes but she's learned from them. I love our twins they are so broken and loaded with issues but they are the only ones trying to keep everyone alive. I liked that Landon has a unique connection with both Maison and Micah because they are the only ones who have her best interest.

Pretty Little Island is an intense whirlwind survival adventure that kept me on my toes and guessing till the very end. The characters are engaging and I felt like I could really connect with them all. I love a dark twisty thriller that is perfectly balanced with just the right amount of romance. The story does have a little spicy but it doesn't overwhelm the story it just works so well to form connection between the characters.

This is my first book by the author but I'm hooked she's done a beautiful job creating a captivating story that I couldn't put down till the very last page. I knew this was a cliffhanger but omg I wanted to throw my kindle across the room when I read the last page. I need more because I have so many questions. I loved every moment of Pretty Little Island it is very much like Pretty Little Liars meets Survive and I am addicted. I can't wait to see how the story with Landon will play out after everything that's happened, and I'm dying to know if they will get rescued.

Holy crap! This was probably one of the best books I’ve read this year. It was dark, twisted, emotional, nail biting, disturbing and I couldn’t put it down. It ended on a cliffhanger too and made me want to scream. How the heck can I wait almost a year to find out what happens to them?

This story was about London, a girl who already went through something devastating before she turned 18, and moved back home with her dad because of it. Senior year finds her at a prep school with kids who have their own secrets. She’s joins the school newspaper and gets to travel on a plane to Alaska with the hockey team and cheerleaders to cover the hockey tournament. But tragedy strikes for all. She’s trapped on an island with classmates and twin, hottie hockey superstar brothers, Maison and Micah. It’s a story about secrets, lies, survival, instincts, love, friendship and so much more. It reminded me of the show Survivor, except much more dark and twisted.

For being a debut novel it was exceedingly well written and captivated me. I’m going to be in a dark, disturbed book coma for awhile after reading this. Great job!!

5☆ all the way, the characters, the spices, the angst...now I need more "survival but surrounded by sexy guys" books because I think that's my thing.

I didn't care for this one. There were so many things that just seemed...off. The first time the word 'alpha' came up to describe one of the twins, I knew it was going to be rough. And it got worse. At one point we start talking about 'a primal response', lol. I'm not sure if the author was trying to make Micah and Maison seem harder and tougher than they were. I mean let us not forget these are 17 & 18 year olds for petes sake.

Then we have a plan crash but weeks, shoot, it could've been months go by and there's no hint of finding them. Um, don't planes have GPS tracking or wouldn't they have dropped off radar?? There were so many inconsistencies it was hard at times to keep reading.

And then we add in the love triangle/ex-girlfriend debacle. There was just way to much stuff going on, and it was on repeat it felt. I mean we have just over 400 pages and we don't have a resolution. These kids just keep fighting each other for no reason other than to fight.

Ugh, I'm sorry, I just struggled bad with this one. But the kicker is...you'll have to wait almost a year to get the sequel. I'm being extremely generous giving this one 3 stars.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Pretty Little Island (The Bone Love Duet # 1)

OMG. This book still has me staring at the wall. I literally lost sleep over this book because it kept me on the edge and I HAD to know what happened next. This book was a real nail bitter, disturbing, and such emotional roller-coaster. This was a debut novel that was written extremely well and captivated me from the beginning. I 100% recommend this book for anyone who likes angst, spice, twist and turns, and survival stories.

Pretty Little Island is the story of London and the Matei twins. London moves back to New Ocean after a trauma experience and meets the Matei twins, who are on the school’s hockey team and also have a dark past. London joins the school newspaper and her first assignment is to cover the schools Hockey game in Alaska. Tragedy strikes and she finds herself stranded on an island with the Matei twins, some hockey teammates and other students. They must learn how to survive and trust each other. But more secrets and lies come out and you’re not sure who to trust.

This book ends on a cliffy and I can’t wait to see what happens in book two.

“It’s true, baby. I wanted you the second I saw you blushing in that cafeteria. What do I have to do to show you how much I want you? I’m falling so hard for you, London King.”

“I haven’t even started making you hate me yet, sweetheart. Wait till I fucking do, and see how you feel then.”

“For once, I need someone to choose me, to make me feel like I’m fucking worthy of being on this earth. He’s the better twin, London. Go back to him.”

“If you knew how much I fucking love you, London, it would scare the living shit out of you. It would tear you to shreds. I know I don’t deserve you, but you’re mine now. No one else matters but you.”

This book was unreal. There were many times I put this book down and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s a book that will live rent free in my head. It’s the beginning of a duet so I can only sit here for the next ten months imagining what’s going to happen next. There is so much packed into the book. Full of twists and turns and even still at the end I’m second guessing if I have the mystery solved. This book is really a combination of the classic book Lord of the Flies and the tv show Lost and then add in elements of the show Alone. Even though there is a love triangle of sorts with spice, even without the spice, this book is still amazing. The dynamic between London, Maison and Micah constantly shifts throughout this book leaving us never knowing which is the ‘good’ twin. Add in this element of survival where high school kids are trying to self govern and live cohesively, things start to fall off the rails very quickly. I can’t say enough how much I liked this book and I can’t wait for the next one.

SOS! I am not well. Not well at all. This book had me in a chokehold the whole time I read it and I had to put it down several times because it was SO intense. My mind was reeling, my heart was thumping, and my anxiety levels were off the charts. Pretty Little Island is Rhea Ryan’s debut novel, and she came in swinging and taking names.

First off, the writing was superb and who could believe this was a debut novel. The imagery was captivating, and I felt like I was right there in the wilderness. There were so many twists and turns and every character seemed to be holding a secret that when these were revealed, my jaw dropped every single time.

London King, the FMC, has her goal set in mind when she starts at her new high school, New Ocean Prep, to keep her down, her grades up, and obtain a spot in a top journalism program. Her plans are slightly derailed when she is drawn to the school’s best and hottest hockey players, Micah and Maison, and the mystery that surrounds them. Be still my heart.

Micah and Maison! These two spelled trouble, and I definitely empathize with London because I wouldn’t know which one to choose either. The mystery that surrounded them shocked me when the truth was revealed, and my heart ached for the pain that each of them endured.

The survival story gave me Lord of the Flies vibes, but with dark romance and spice. I was downright biting my nails as people started breaking down. Uuufff, the angst had me deep in an emotional rollercoaster and be warned tears were shed. I am looking forward to part two as part one continues to live rent free in my mind.

Also, fuck Nigel.

Loved this book, it's start off a girl on the red carpet from writing a book that's turns into a movie. Well going back 4 Years before that she was 17 in new ocean trying to get a fresh start. She, 2 people that are in writing class are put on a plane to go to Alaska with two different hockey teams for Tortement. Well on the way to the tournament they hit a bad storm when the plane goes off Course. Who will survive the plane crash, when will they get rescue? Who will survive the aftermath of the crash to get rescue? They book does end on a cliffhanger. Loved the twist and turns of it. Can't wait for book 2.

First of all a huge thank you to Rhea Ryan and Chaotic Influencers for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ok guys let me just start by saying this one had me white knuckling my poor kindle the whole way through! I can honestly say that this one really did it for me. Just reading the synopsis had me chopping at the bit to get my hands on this book and boy did it not disappoint.

When Landon (FMC) lands her self at a new school in hopes of forgetting her past mistakes, her only goal is to blend in and focus on her education. Landon hops a flight to Alaska with the hockey team after scoring a spot as a journalist for the school newspaper. Just when things seem to be turning around for her A murdered girl, two of the hottest hockey players on the team, a plane crash and one island later may have her questioning otherwise. Landon’s newfound luck may have taken a turn for the worst…or just maybe there is more to the story than even she knows.

I absolutely ate this one up! First and foremost I loved the relationship between Landon and the twins Micha and Maison it definitely added depth to the overall storyline and who doesn’t love a little love triangle? This is entire novel was like reading a mashup of Lost, Survivor and Yellowjackets all in one but with a completely unique plot. The twist and turns had me questioning everything and everyone, never knowing who to trust. I was an emotional wreck of conflicting emotions by the end while simultaneously needing more!

A huge congratulations to Rhea on her debut novel Pretty Little Island, I can’t wait to read more! I highly recommend to all my thriller lovers out there who love a little spice with their spook 👏🏼

I was provided a copy of this title for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

London had kind of a dark and rocky path to New Ocean Prep, the destination that was meant to be her chance to start over and reinvent herself as a good student to obtain a spot in a journalism program. But we all know that the past never stays hidden for long; and as London’s comes back to haunt her, she is likewise haunted by the presence of the Matei twins, who have a shared past of their own whose darkness may yet rival hers, and seem equally as unable to stay away from her as she is from both of them.

The “HOLY HECK” wasn’t just for show, this one really left its mark. Fast paced with twist upon jaw dropping twist and a DARK romance that has some twists of its own, plus TWINS vying for the attention of the same girl? There are SO many more layers to this book than just the romance aspect. It was not at all what I expected in the BEST possible way, and its ending definitely unhinged my jaw and left me reeling for DAYS. I’ll be eager to get my hands on the second part of this duet.

The first thing I did when I finished this book was immediately run to Amazon to download the companion novella, because it was THAT good, and I was desperate for another morsel of those twins and some insight into their backstory before London and the island.

So. DANG. GOOD.

Thank you to the author and R&R Book Tours for the gifted e-ARC.

Lord of the Flies + The Hunger Games + Lots of Spice!

This book blew me away. It’s a story of survival, betrayal and love. You will feel anger, love, fear for the characters, hope and hopelessness. This book is about a story about a group of young adults who were on route to a hockey tournament when something unfathomable happens to them. The talks about their attempts at survival. It is poignant, moving and gripping. The spice is hot and woven really well into the overall storyline. I could not put this down. If you enjoy dark reads, grab this and you will not be disappointed. This is truly one of my top reads of all time. If I could give it more stars I would without any hesitation!

Wow what can I say about this book? It’s like nothing I’ve read before, but the mystery and revelations keep you hooked for sure.

A group of school kids are stranded on an island following a plane crash on the way to Alaska. All of a sudden social status has no impact on whether they survive or not. This book explores the impact being stranded has on people’s state of mind and mental wellbeing as well as how their relationships change due to their circumstances. London is torn between twins Micah and Maison and we get to see how what happens on the island impacts upon their relationship with each other and the group. Can love really be enough to survive when everything seems stacked against you?

Looking forward to book 2 to see what happens next.

THIS BOOK WAS JUST WOW!!!!! I'm so upset and disappointed how it ended. I usually hate cliffhangers and hate them so much because I have to wait a long time for the next book. BUT it's definitely going to be worth the wait. I'm not sure which brother I loved the most Micah the asshole, hot and cold brother or Maison the sweet and caring brother. They both give off touch her die vibes though which is hot af. Now there was so many twist and shocking moments that kept me reading and not want to put it down. I fucking hate Nigel and hope he dies a long fucking death. Ugh I want to scream I'm so angry ( in a good way ) that I have to wait for the next book. Hopefully this is a good review and not me being rude. This book has my emotions all over the place. Don't get me wrong this book is fantastic!!!!!

“Watching him with it, I can’t help but think nothing is sexier than a guy wielding a bone weapon.”

Shut the front door!
This. Book. Is. So. Fricken. Good.
Pretty Little Island has been living rent free in my head since I finished reading it a couple of weeks ago! I’m absolutely blown away by it and I still can’t believe that this is @rhearyanwrites debut novel!😳 The drama…the angst…the suspense…the SPICE!! 😮‍💨🥵 This was one of my favorite reads of the whole entire year!🙌🏻🫶🏻

Rhea Ryan takes you on such an emotional journey throughout this book. I don’t know what she put in this book but I am addicted! There were so many twists and turns. I was on the edge of my seat for much of the book and I definitely cried more than once. The spice was smokin’ hot…There are not one, but TWO delicious MMCs to lust after.

“I want you to spread your legs wide, baby, and let him f^ck you while I hold you.”

“You feel like f^cking heaven London…I wish you were mine.”

Be warned, this book does end on a cliffhanger that will make you scream and pull your hair out but the ride is worth it -I promise! Make sure you check the trigger warnings as this is a *dark* romance.

London moves back to her hometown after being involved in a scandal of sorts. She joins the high school newspaper at her new school and gets sent on the hockey team’s big trip to Alaska. London’s sent to cover the hockey tournament but really she’s been asked to dig deeper into the twin star hockey players dark past. On the way to Alaska their airplane crash lands on an island in the wilderness forcing them to fight to survive and to learn who to trust.

“This island is eating me alive, day by day, hour by hour.”

“I think this pretty little island is going to kill me.”

"imagine every thought, feeling, or emotion known to humanity, and then multiply your hunger, thirst, pain, desire, rage, love, and fear by a thousand. that's how living on this island feels."

"you're mine, baby. whether you want me is irrelevant now."

summary:

london king just moved to a new town and a new school full of rich preppy kids. she just wants to blend in and have a fresh start. with aspirations to study journalism in college next year, she enrolls in the school newspaper. her first task? go to alaska to cover a hockey tournament and get an interview with the enigmatic matei twins who both play on the team.

what was supposed to be a simple fun weekend trip turns into horror when the plane crashes, killing almost everyone on board but a few teenagers including london. they have no idea where they landed or how to get out of there, but it’s pretty clear this island is abandoned and no one is coming to rescue them any time soon.

soon enough, hunger, fear and survival start eating at them and there’s tension in the group. but the tension between london and twins maison and micah is the strongest. she can’t help wanting to know more about them and their mysterious past. did they really kill that girl two summers ago? torn between affectionate and funny maison and cold-hearted alpha leader micah, london realizes the wilderness might not be the only dangerous thing on this pretty little island.

review:

if you’re a fan of tv shows like yellowjackets, the wilds, the 100 or the society, you will want to check out this book about a group of teenagers stuck on an abandoned island and fighting for survival after a plane crash.

i gave this book a chance because shelbie and elle mitchell had high praise for it and i’m so glad i did! this is rhea ryan’s debut novel and the first book in a duet.

it’s dark and so tense, i couldn’t stop reading because i NEEDED to know what would happen next. yes, it’s a new adult romance, but it’s also a suspense with plot twists that leave you reeling.

if you are like me and you enjoy reading about characters having to make tough choices that make them question their morality, you will eat this up. i loved reading about the group trying to survive in the wilderness and people fighting for power and what’s the best course of action. the tension reaches its boiling point towards the end, and no one is safe.

you will be left questioning what is the truth and which twin to trust. and believe me, your opinion on both maison and micah will change quite a few times during the book. it’s a single POV so you only know what london knows. you really live this story through her eyes.

it was an addictive book that kept me awake all night. and it was so different from what i usually read but i loved every second of it. i really recommend it to everyone.

it ends on a cliffhanger and i just cannot wait to read the second book next year!

read this book if you like:
- survival at any cost
- stuck on a desert island
- dark & emotional
- new adult
- hate to love
- romance & thriller
- love triangle with twin brothers
- alpha heros
- hockey romance

Pretty Little Island is book 1 of the Bone Love Duet and follows London King and her classmates as they try to survive in the wilderness after a tragic plane crash. This debut novel absolutely blew me away and is a top read of 2023 for me! There were so many layers to this story that just came together beautifully. The love triangle was done so well and the spice was so much hotter than I was expecting. Pretty Little Island was a 𝓅ℯ𝓇𝒻ℯ𝒸𝓉 mix of suspense, emotion and angst, and spice with one hell of a cliffhanger ending. 5⭐️

Holy my heart, this book gave me emotional whiplash. IT WAS SO GOOD.
It gave me LOST vibes, but not the head scratching confusing side. The chaos is on another level, it’s so well written it keeps you hooked while you feel all the emotions of the characters, I honestly thought this was going to go in a different direction and was left shocked and crying at the end.

This is left on a cliffhanger so be ready!

I found a new amazing author and I can’t wait to dive in to the second book this summer.

This book had me on the edge of my seat from the start, and I loved every second of it. How this goes from a school trip to Alaska, with secret alternative motives, to full blown survival of the fittest had me reeling. Tensions are high, secrets unfold and emotions are all consuming. I was feeling every emotion imaginable and my brain was buzzing trying to connect all the dots. I was absolutely wrecked by the end of this book. I cannot wait for book 2!

Pretty Little Island was one of my absolute favorite reads from this year. I stayed up just to finish this book, and I couldn’t put it down! The writing was amazing, and the plot was so good. It was a wonderful survival romance that you have to read! I adored Maison since the very beginning, but Micah will forever have my heart. The plot twists and secrets will definitely have you hooked. I can’t wait to dive into book two!
