Captive - A New Life Series

To what lengths would you go to break away from a life filled with pain and suffering?

Tori Farrell has lived a dangerous life. When you grow up with a Motorcycle Gang of Mercenaries and Drug Lords like the Dragons, a normal life is more like a fairytale. For years, she accepted her dark reality, a world consisting of drugs, sex, violence and murder. In the end, she learned the most valuable lesson: survival.

After years of being ruled by the Dragons, Tori uses her skills of seduction and assassination to free herself from the grasp of the people who vowed they would never let her go. Taken in by the FBI, she fears not everything is what it seems, and soon finds herself lost in a web of lies and deceit. She thought getting away from the Dragons would put her on a path to a new and better life, but now she must face the cold hard truth” there is always a price to be paid.

˃˃˃ Excerpt

"Quietly, he explained to her that he was going to arrange for another group to kill the Dragons and send her to live with someone who would take care of her. Not understanding, she asked why she would have to go with someone else. If the Dragons were dead, why couldn't she just go with him? He refused to explain, and simply said, "You are going to have a different life, baby girl. A life I cannot give you. You must be strong and willing to do whatever it takes to make this happen. Promise me you will do this...."

˃˃˃ Book 1 of 7 in A New Life Series

This is the first in a series that chronicles the life of a young woman who is raised by a group of men who work as freelance mercenaries in the dark world of drug trafficking and murder for hire. They acquired the young woman at a very young age, as she has no memory of life before them. The book opens as she has broken free and moves through a series of current events and flashbacks that explain the beginning of her story. It is very dark with an unfinished feel, because in the end, the past is not the real story - the real story is what happens from here.

˃˃˃ WARNING: GRAPHIC SCENES

This book is intended for readers 18+ and contains scenes that may cause distress to some readers: Domestic Abuse, Kidnapping, Rape and Substance Abuse are described in detail.

Part 1 in this series comes together in pieces as Tori recounts, through flashbacks, her memories of being raised by outlaw bikers. As others have forewarned, this is NOT a love story where the "bad guy kidnapper" falls in love with the damsel in distress, feels remorseful, yadda, yadda, yadda. It is a tale of brutality, cruelty and suffering. This is a story that will make you cringe as you read about the horrors she was subjected to on a daily basis.

This book definitely isn't for the faint of heart, but it is a great read. The inner strength and survival instinct of Tori was astounding. Why she didn't use her blade to commit suicide early on is beyond me. Tori's story had me thinking a great deal about justifiable homicide.

It was also great that Tori is kind of a badass! I'm looking forward to the next book in the series to see where the story, and the relationship with Eli, goes.

Absolutely NOT what I was expecting. This story was slow to start for me, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, as we begin the story at the end of the situation: the aftermath. Once we figure out what going on, the story really starts: Tori is the ONLY girl in the Dragon's motorcycle club, gang?!? (call it what you will.)
This was a very well-written, completely unique story - told in a way that kept me interested. I wanted to know who Tori was, what she experienced, and how she survived! Her recollections are detailed, emotional, and she is just amazing.
I'm not really sure how to classify this: it IS a dark story, it's semi-erotic, and a semi-romance. I need to know what happens to Tori, and NEED to read the 2nd book in this series.

OMFG what have I just read??!! Let me tell you…I have just read the most heart-rending book that I’ve probably ever come across.

Tori was brought up in a gang, she doesn’t know her real name or age or her family details or anything of her life before being with the Dragons. She’s been beaten, abused, gang raped and generally treated in the worst way possible.

I read this book with bile in my throat and my heart breaking as she re-tells her life to FBI agent Eli. There is a point in the book (the wire) that I couldn’t contain my disgust and I lost the contents of my stomach in the pan and I cried for Tori.

I can tell Tori has a beautiful soul despite what the Dragon’s have done to her and made her do.

I’m also glad to see that the hero, Eli, isn’t some buff guy with muscles on muscles. He’s a short, officey type, not the usual butch alpha male. But he IS an alpha male. He is kind, he is protective, he’s listening to Tori’s story without judgement.

Samantha Jacobey has written a powerful tale of survival, a story so deep and dark that any normal person would have wished for death. The writing style is slick and easy to read. There’s enough description to picture the scenes without going over-board with unnecessary detail. I didn’t realise that this is book 1 of 7, but I’m glad. I want to see Tori heal. I want to follow her story and her journey of self-discovery. I want to be there when she gets her HEA. What I’m trying to say is, you have to one click this book and the next 6.

Samantha Jacobey….you have done what no author has ever done before to me, you have made me vomit! But in a good way. You have captured me and pulled me into the darkest bowels of hell. I felt dirty reading this. I felt helpless. I felt heart-broken. I felt disgusted. I felt proud of Tori. I felt protective of her. Please give this girl a break in the end and let her have a smile on her face and love in her heart.

5 heart-wrenching stars from me.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A New Life: Life of Recovery - is based on a story of a young girl Tori(the main character)who has endured so much pain and suffering through the hands of an evil group of freelance mercenaries (dragons) that raised her from a very young age.

Now that she is free (so to speak) & much older, she must struggle with those demons and let go and try to move forward. Eli an FBI agent is very drawn to Tori and becomes a big part in her recovery. He offers her a few life choices of options, which sadly and unwillingly excludes him from her life... for now.

Whether or not she can overcome and live a normal life, I believe we will find out in the continuation of Life of Doubt: Book Two of a New Life, which was released December 10 2013.

The story was remarkably written, and the characters (Tori & Eli) you can't help but love. I give big kudos to the author Samantha Jacobey for keeping the reader drawn to each page turned and for writing such an incredible book. I look forward to many future works form her and I happily give it a 5 stars hands down!!

A stern warning though, this is not recommended for young readers as it has sexually explicit content meant for adult audiences only!

WARNING: graphic abuse scenes. Not for the faint of heart.

Some thrillers are dark and disturbing. Luckily, this one is a book filled with strength and a strong sense of the struggle for survival, while having some dark and disturbing imagery. If I had to come up with one word to describe Tori, the main character, it would definitely be "survivor". Most of this book happens in the past tense as Tori recounts her history. I think that was very clever of the author because the imagery was so detailed and vivid that if it were happening in "real time" it would have seemed too graphic. Strange, I know, but for me it is less traumatic to see a description of the past than to read something traumatic as it happens. The author also did an excellent job of building up the story, weaving through everything that happened, building up each of the characters more and more....but sneakily not giving you all the information. I reached the last page and kept trying to turn another page to keep going! I have many questions about Tori and the Dragons that were left unanswered. Looks like I'll need to get the next book to find the answers! 5 stars for hooking me so that I can't wait to see what happens next!

Action packed, Fun, Mind-Blowing

A New Life: Life of Recovery by Samantha Jacobey, Tori’ story is one of the best I have read in a long time.

Samantha wrote this to capture the readers’ attention into a world made for Tori and she did that and more. Samantha can show a story-line that is created through great talent and excellence of writing shows her abilities to create an adventure, action packed story that continues to grow through out the book

As, Samantha builds the character of Tori slowly in her book, Tori has horrible flashbacks of her childhood with a motorcycle gang that has tormented and abused her. During Tori’s recovery, your heart will break as you read about each flashback and a smile will form on your face as Tori learns and accepts that she is finally free from Eddie and his gang, and while Tori learns what real love is through the companionship of a detective.

Samantha’s book is definitely a book I would recommend to all readers that enjoy a book that leads you on an adventurous, shadowy, dark past of a young girl. Can’t wait to read the next chapter of Tori’s life!

This is a fantastically good book. It is so well written that pages almost turn themselves as the story unfolds. I missed a night's sleep because I just couldn't stop reading. The subject matter is definitely harrowing, and yet it is told in such a calm way, that it almost isn't - which is crazy, but just how it is. I am sure that there is more angst to come, but the ending is perfect - no cliffhanger, just hope.

All I can do is suggest that you read it - keep an open mind, and see just how strong a person can be.

Thank you Ms Jacobey, an absolute treat; now safely in my reread collection.

Wow this is a captivating tale of a young girl who somehow ended up living with a group of bikers. The details of how she wound up with them is sketchy. During her lengthy captivity she faced unimaginable dangers, abuse and torture than anyone should. Samantha Jacobey entrances you right from the beginning, with dark themed subjects and violence. Everything Tori endures is heinously disturbing, not intended for the feint of heart. A definite five star read!

OMG the blurb underestimates this book! Its called CAPTIVE and I was certainly the victim of this book!

I had an accident last Thursday which has laid me up, so I've done nothing but read and play games on my PC. I couldn't do anything except read this series.

This is the first book in the series. Let me tell you, its intense.

Tori is the girl. The life she has lead was unbelievable, but very impressionable. Left her with more than physical scars.

I'm not going to spoil this story. I'm just going to tell you what my reactions were to it.

I was crying for Tori. I could she how her 'knuckling' down and just 'getting the job done' was all the choice she had really. One option. I defy anyone to say otherwise!

One minute when the men were being nice to her and bathing her I was, aww, then ANGRY at myself for even giving them any sentiment at all!

What this story has now done, is lead me onto book 2, and I flipping can't wait!

I was sent this book for review.

This story is about a young woman, one fighting for survival amongst the most evil of beings - humans.

I was drawn in at once by the flow and style of the writing and although I don't like explicit sex scenes, I think this story warranted it as it was a big part of Tori's terrible ordeal.

A strong protagonist, one that could have been broken but had chosen to live.

I don't give spoilers but will say that this book is not for the faint of heart, in that it delivers the horrors of Tori's life with a huge, no holds barred, punch; one that will leave you gasping and wonder how some people can be so cruel and inexplicably wicked.

A compelling read.

Holy moly what a story this is. I went to a classic car show today. I hardly saw any cars as I was gripped to this story. I seriously am struggling how to put in words what I thought about this book. It's a brilliant well written story.

Tori is the main character in this story. She is such a strong girl. How can a young girl go through all she did and still breath? My heart was in my mouth reading this story.

If your looking for a heart breaking and angsty story then this is it.

This is book one in a series. This ends in a cliff hanger but thankfully book two and three are already released.

If you enjoy strong female protagonists, then you're going to find a new favourite with 'A New Life: Life of Recovery'. Author Samantha Jacobey possesses sheer unbeatable skill at creating strong graphic and fully emotional scenes. There are hard sex and physical abuses, but these only add to the strong, engrossing nature of this book. Recommended... but only if you're an ADULT!

“A New Life: Life of Recovery” by Samantha Jacobey is a dark romantic thriller-- for adults only.

From the first page, I knew the heroine, Tori, was in jeopardy. By the end of the first chapter, I wanted to know who this girl was, and what had happened to her. It quickly becomes obvious that Tori is very much a victim, yet is far from helpless or in any way representative of the usual damsel in distress. It turns out that Tori had been systematically abused; turned into both a sex slave and a lethal weapon. As the author puts it, “Tori was such an odd combination of light and dark, having seen and experienced the worst in men, yet not knowing about the simplest parts of life most of us take for granted.” This book is sexually explicit and downright harrowing as it documents this abuse, as well as Tori’s reaction to it. At the same time, it is very well written, and frequently insightful about the power of the human spirit and the will to survive. It also demonstrates the role love, friendship, compassion, and understanding can play in helping a person to heal. I was surprised to suddenly find myself at the end of the book, which leaves us with some unanswered questions. Evidently Tori’s story is ‘to be continued’. I, for one, would like to know how she fares, as well as more about the dark forces swirling around her. Although this book is definitely a page-turner, it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea due to the gritty subject matter. However, those who aren’t bothered by that will find it compelling, intriguing and thought provoking. I'm rooting for Tori, and I think you will too.

For a debut novel, Samantha Jacobey took on a very large task. She chose a topic and format that are extremely difficult to accomplish successfullly. Then she knocked it out of the park. She created a masterpiece.

The story begins with an ending. It is the ending of a way of life for the main character, Tori, a young woman whose age we never quite pin down. Tori has lived enough for several lifetimes at this point, suffered more than her share, and is about to experience a new beginning.

In the beginning Tori is a mystery to be solved. You get the feeling that she is not "innocent" but she also has the feel of "victim" around her.

Through flashbacks and confessions, we learn the story of Tori's life and her involvement with a major criminal organization. True, there is graphic sex and violence, but so masterfully written that even those, including myself, who do not prefer graphic scenes in their reading, understand their part in the story being told. In no way do those scenes detract from the story.

As a reader I felt compassion for Tori, both loved and lost respect for Eli, her FBI handler, and became lost in the story from beginning to end.

I will be reading book two to see how the story continues.

I was gifted a copy of this book but the opinions are honestly my own.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this novel and was caught up in the story.

When I saw this was an MC book, I was expecting what has become the typical story. Biker falls in love with a club brat or club brat falls for untouchable biker. That is so not what I got. It starts in the aftermath of the moment that Tori wakes up in a hospital bed, not knowing how she got there. She has been with the Dragons MC for as long as she can remember. She doesn't know how old she is, where she came from before the Dragons, she just knows she was theirs. All she knows is what the Dragons teach her, whether its how to please them, to let them take her as they want, to kill, to make money. She was theirs.

The story goes back and forth between her current situation and the past. You get the full picture why she acts like she does. When she agrees to provide the FBI with all the information she knows on the Dragons she attaches herself to Eli, an FBI agent. Is it a true attraction or is he the first person that treats her with respect?

Can't wait to see what happens as Tori becomes a member of society. Where will it leave her and Eli?

4.5 Original STARS!!

This was different. I totally thought this was going to be like the rest of the biker books I've read. Not at all. This story was completely original, I was hooked from page one. There's just the right amout of mystery and supense to keep me glued to the pages.

If you're not a fan of 'Dark Reads,' this story may be too graphic for you. So take the authors warning serious.

I usually have issues reading 3rd person point of view, that was not the case here. I was so wrapped up in the story, I didn't even realize it. The story telling was amazing, the plot was original, and the characters were intriguing.
I admired Tori's strength, she grew up in the most heinous surroundings.
We get a good look into the lives of 'The Dragons,' but I definitely wanted more.
I love a dark read, so this fed my darker needs!
Awesome start to a series! I'm hooked!

This is a new author for me. I can't wait to read what's next!!!

I was not sure what this was about other than the title and a female being held captive. But this story was not what I expected. Tori wakes up in a hospital and not sure how she got there. When she begins to tell Special Agent Eli Founder her story, you realize that Tori has been through hell and it was all from the Dragons. The Dragons is a biker gang that starts out staying in South America and while there they begin Tori's training. She is taught how to read, play guitar, cook, clean and then when she gets older she is taught to fight. She is being turned into a killing machine. All the while she is the entertainment for the 12 men in the gang. Reading her retelling of what she went through will have your skin crawling. This is NOT a cute love story. It is full of pain and heartache. This is Samantha Jacobey's debut and I loved it. Can't wait to read Bound (book 2). If you are looking for a story full of pain, abuse, torture and a story like not other, than pick this one up and enjoy the ride.

This series must be read in order. This is the first book.

This book was awesomely disturbing :) I LOVED it!!!! I could not put it down like ever I swear! Not many writers could writ about such disturbing subject matter and keep you hooked all the way through. Part horror and part thriller this book has it all,,, even a little bit of romance. You find yourself caught up in the characters and wondering what will happen next (and you are almost always wrong) as the suspense sinks it's teeth into you like a bear trap.

If you have a weak stomach this is not the series for you. And it is definitely for adults only and not even all of them. Can't deal with graphic violence and abuse? Walk away. Want a heart rending story full of ups and downs? This is for you :) I so can not wait to read the next book!!!

***This series is suitable for adult readers only !!!!!

This book is NOT for the faint of heart so please take caution!!

From page 1 I was hooked wanting to know Tori's story. When the book starts she wakes up not knowing where she is but soon realizes she is in a hospital. There are several agents wanting to talk to her to find out the information they need. As Tori begins to tell her story to Special Agent Eli Founder you realize just how much hell she has really been thru at the hands of The Dragons MC. She has been abused, tortured, beaten, raped and taught to kill.

I don't want to spoil anything so all I can say is...if you enjoy dark reads from time to time then this is the book for you.

This is such an AWESOME start to the series which will consist of 7 books. I can't wait to start book 2, I need to know more of Tori's story. Will she ever have a normal life and find her HEA?

Captive is a story about Tori and her fight for life in a horrific theme of abuse from the hands of gang called 'Dragons'.
It's extremely abusive, makes you feel heart broken and helpless.
There's rape, pain, tears and total hopelessness.
Story on another level of 'hardcore' and 'dark'.
Battle of body and soul - when your body rebels the mind tries to stay strong and willing to fight.
Characters are very realistic, story captivating and mindboggling.
Reading it makes you fight the urge to constantly ask why and wonder if there is a bigger sense in its abusive content.
The answer may be as follows:
The survival is the most important part of the journey in search for a new life.
The people surrounding her in the times of recovery are the factors that help Tori face the past and take steps into a new beginning.

This is an interesting story about a young woman who escapes from an international crime cartel, against remarkable odds. It's very visual, very action-driven, and would likely be more effective as a movie than a novel; there is a wealth of description, which would be easy to depict on film but gets in the way of the plot a bit here. The young woman has many exotic skills that would be flashy in a movie but are pretty much disregarded here after mentioning that they exist. I wasn't quite sure how she got into the cartel's clutches in the first place. The story put me in mind of the 1993 Bridget Fonda movie, "Point of No Return"; people love stories about beautiful girls who are trained assassins.

I'm sorry, I know I'm in the minority here but I just didn't like this book. Our poor heroine was raised by and eventually used as a plaything by a criminal gang in the wilds of Brazil. The story begins with her being rescued and hospitalized with interrogations by psychiatrists, the FBI, police, etc. I just didn't believe it. Her rote recitation of everything that happened to her, time and time again, just didn't resonate with me. Because of the high ratings, maybe the next books are much better, but I'm just not enthused enough to read them.

Samantha Jacobey brought her main character to life in a way I didn't expect. She was fiery, and compassionate, vulnerable and strong. This book grabbed me from page one and didn't let me go until I'd read it all.

Without giving anything away, through out the book, there were times I wanted to cry for the main character and cheer on her strength.
