The Breathless Series Book 1 Addison Grant thought she had life all figured out. Attend college, land the job of her dreams, and marry her high school sweetheart. Everything seemed to be falling into place, or at least that’s what she thought.
Having moved from Vermont to Las Vegas with her boyfriend Grayson, the last thing Addison expected was to come home one day to find all of her belongings packed up in boxes and her eight year relationship over.
Heartbroken and lost, Addison finds herself, for the first time, unsure of what the future holds. But a chance meeting with a gorgeous bartender sets her on a path she never expected.
Liam Mason isn’t just your average bartender. There is something about him that doesn’t quite fit but Addison can't put her finger on it, nor can she deny the sparks that fly between them. As much as she tries to fight her quickly forming feelings for Liam, his constant pursuit of her makes it impossible to resist his charms.
When Addison lands a major project at work, she unknowingly sets herself up to discover that Liam is not who he says he is. When Addison learns the truth will she be able to forgive the lies or will she be forced to walk away from the one man who has consumed her entire existence?

I actually really liked this one!!! an no, it ISN'T because the main male characters name is Liam...though that certainly helped :)
This book had been on my TBR for......probably since the original book came out in 2013....So, a while. I finally bought it the other day, and I was actually quite surprised by how much I liked it. Of course it isn't SPECTACULAR, THE BEST THING EVER WRITTEN, but it was a damn good story and I loved the writing. I also really loved both the main characters.
The cliffhanger was a bitch.....so I will definitely be reading the sequel to this.....AND HOPEFULLY VERY SOON!
I don't know about the rating for this one guys........Definitely not quite a 4 though. Maybe 3.5.... Which is a shame BECAUSE THIS IS MY 300th REVIEW ON GR!!
The first one was really good, I thought it was a great first book in a series.......
The second one...I definitely didn't think this book suffered from 'second book syndrome'....I loved it more than the first one....
This third and final book though.....It was good.....but there were a few things that annoyed the hell out of me......there were things that I FIGURED would happen, and they did....but whereas there is Mb>USUALLY this whole big mess over it, and drama, drama, drama....which you would EXPECT, there really wasn't....its like it didn't really matter, no mystery...just..."WHAT HAPPENED?" and then a chapter later everything is right as rain again......I WANTED the drama, I needed it....I felt this last installment could have been a lot better with it....Its a shame, but overall it was a great story, and I absolutely loved Liam.
Usually, the male is a totally overprotective, caveman, alpha asshole....not so much here...Usually that bugs me, I love the alpha men....He may have not been the overbearing asshole [actually, it was a pretty nice change...]....but don't think that means he WASN'T dominating....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I loved Liam.
Wow........So! This book........I really enjoyed Consumed ...like a lot! but this one! Man, I loved this one.....It was sooooo good......funny, and happy, and full of love....and LIAM, Jesus....Liam....and sex, lots of sex, and MAN, that last part......not any of the things that I totally just listed.......I am on to Book 3 because I can't wait any longer to read it!!!!!!!!
Idk what everyone else read but i read a book that needed a hell of a lot more editing before it went to the public. I'm doing all three books in each section Heroine: in the first half of the first book she came off as really shallow and judgmental. She grew out of that but then was so...i don't know naive or just plain dumb for the remainder of the series. She didn't seem to trust the hero but then got mad when he didn't trust her. She would run every time there was a problem then cave because of sex. I'll get more into that in the romance section though. Hero: He was smart and had a six pack he never had to work for. He had an enormous bank account and an enormouser cock. In most ways he's the prime romantic lead (incredibly unrealistic but hey). Frankly i don't know what he saw in her, because she came off as really obnoxious. Granted he had some fuckups...but nothing THAT major. He was close lipped about his past...he's a dude that's just kind of how they are. Romance: Here's how it went. "wow she's really hot...i should stalk her for a bit til i find a way to meet her" date date date. happy happy. ANGRY! Have sex act like fight never happened but have heroine obsess over the issue yet never mention it. Literally this is the relationship trajectory in all 3 books. Like one or 2 books ok but i wanted to see it get shaken up a bit have a different drama rather than just a different reason to have the same exact fight. I also felt like their relationship wasn't terribly healthy. Not like domestic violence unhealthy but they were very codependent and its rather glorified. Like it's not a healthy thing to not know who you are without your partner it's certainly not something to brag about...it's something to seek therapy over. Sex scenes: In books 1 and 2 they were pretty mild and staid honestly. Mostly your basic missionary with like a tiny bit of oral foreplay thrown in. In book 3 it got a little bit spicier but like...from mild to medium so still not a whole lot to get worked up over. Plot: Eh nothing too special. I saw every plot twist but one coming from a million miles away and the only one I didn't call was because there were literally too many options for me to pick THE one the author would use. The books were all basically the same plot with just the romance line moving one step forward and 2 steps back in each one. Writing: About half was normal language (albeit error ridden) but then the other half was so term paper formal it was so awkward to read. Then there were the errors. I counted 30 and i'm sure i missed others. There were spelling errors, grammar errors, punctuation errors, syntax errors, and capitalization errors (not sure if this is its own category or not). Lot's of homonym mixups (overdo instead of overdue). Effect when she meant affect several times. Bare EVERY SINGLE TIME she meant bear. Some things that were just spelled phonetically and apparently no one bothered to use spell check (i.e. que for cue). I'm not sure if she had an editor that should just be fired or if this wasn't edited at all but either way it needed MAJOR overhaul before it went to publication. And those are just the errors. It was first person present tense POV which almost never works, especially when you change tenses 3 times in one paragraph. Maybe if we had gotten alternating POV's it would have worked better, but all we get was one prologue in the hero's POV all the rest is the heroines ramblings and insecurities. There was too much telling about a lot of things completely unnecessary to the plot, i would've rather seen for instance her insecurities be the reason they had a fight in one book rather than his tight lippedness. As it was it was in every book but wasn't utilized at all which made it pointless to the story and mostly just annoying. There were other thoughts i had but after all this i frankly can't remember them and probably anyone reading this review doesn't need anything else.
Bottom line: I honestly have no clue how i managed to finish this between not liking the heroine, the sex being pretty vanilla, the romance and story basically being the same in every book, and all the errors. I did and i don't think i could recommend it. Maybe the single versions were better edited but this...i'd have been really mad if i paid for this rather than getting it from kindle unlimited
A completely formulaic by-the-numbers Contemporary romance told in segments, complete with ridiculous cliffhangers at the end of each. It checked every box when it came to plot. The h was a bit wimpy (she ran away, literally ran away, every time she got nervous or scared about the relationship. The H (surprise! He's secretly a billionaire!) pursued her intensely way beyond what any normal sane man would do. The first book was too long and repetitive but the story picked up after that.
I went into this knowing exactly what I would get and so I went easy on all the problems that this book had. I skimmed where it needed it and just enjoyed the ride for the rest. Pretty good book if you can overlook the flaws.
Overall Rating :: 2.5-3 stars Series :: Book three of the Breathless series Hero/Heroine :: Liam/Addison POV :: All Addison. Cliffhanger :: Nope. HEA ::
This series just wasn't really for me, unfortunately. Much like in Taken, the drama felt like an afterthought (and wrapped up too easily), and even after three books, I still didn't feel connected to the characters. The end also felt a bit rushed. I'm nitpicking, I suppose, but I was also hoping there would be some sort of epilogue. Seeing Liam and Addison about five or ten years down the road would have been nice. Maybe with kids? Or, hanging out with their respective families? Having one big family get together? Something? During the course of three books, they were together for mere months. It would have been nice to see some longevity.
Amazeballs!!! Can Mr. Mason open his trust up to keep the one person who loves him more than life? Since the first time Addison laid eyes on Liam Mason she knew she would never be able to live without him. Can all the issues that are thrown there way throw a curve ball into the way? All Addison has ever wanted was Liam to open up to her, to trust her, to believe that she is with him threw it all. The love in this story is AMAZING!!! You will be disappointed if you miss out on an incredible Love Story, so go ahead fall in love, Addison and Liam prove it's worth it.
Could not put this book down once I started it! Definitely not a novel for a younger crowd but a phenomenal steamy novel. I love how the characters have real issues. It's almost a story your best friend could tell you; but be warned the cliffhanger ending will have you headed to book two.
I loved this series. I couldn't out it down. The chemistry that Addison and Liam had was amazing and the love they had was true love. I would definitely recommend this series. I would love to read more of them.
Consumed, by Melissa Toppen, is the first installment in the Breathless series. Now, the cover alone should receive the highest rating! We love it simple and we love the color pink! One of us is even a huge fan of Martinis * wink wink to Allison * so the cover really made our day. The image on the cover actually has something to do with the story. Call us easy to please, but we get excited everytime we find a connection between the cover and story. Those are pretty rare these days ( you know....a guy with washboard tummy on a book cover and the hero (in the same book) is lean and sleek? Totally unacceptable)
While we were reading Consumed, we thought that the book was a great read. Nothing to spiffy, just a great story that held our attention. The characters were well displayed and each of them had their own voices. Addison was a brokenhearted young woman who turned into a stong-headed personality. We enjoyed to see how she went from a miserable, opinionless church mouse into a stunning, brand new , independent woman who new what she wanted. Liam Mason.
Liam was this God- like handsome man who wanted Addison the minute he laid eyes on her. He was a normal guy with a normal job and had it bad for the woman who just came out of a screwed up relationship.
Now, here´s the thing....throughout the whole story we felt Liam´s character was being held back. We knew nothing other than how fabulous his appearance was and that he worked/ lived in a casino, and that he had a history he himself wasn´t too proud of. The fact that he always wanted to get to know Addison was good, but for some reason....his character was left out, leaving us with no deeper insight. We figured maybe that was what the author wanted....just to focus more on Addison than Liam.....but then our world was flipped upside down!
OMG! Damn the author to hell for putting us through such agony when we finished the book! How dare she write such an exciting cliffhanger!? NOTE: send author flowers for the deadly awesome cliffhanger.
We enjoyed reading about the breakup, the pain Addison went through, the changing...and all. We also had fun getting to know all the sub-characters. Each of them were fantastic and unique. But the end had us starved for more!
Picture this: Us chilling on the sofa, reading Consumed and eating chips. And then BAM! The last page and we choke on our chips out of pure shock.
We only have one thing we didn´t like about this book. To us, the relationship between Liam and Addison felt rushed. It all happened to fast. But other than that.....we can´t complain and are eagerly waiting to read the second installment..:-)
Would we recommend this book? Yes. Absolutely. It´s a great romance novel. Would we re-read this book? Yeah, we would..:-)
The Divas are giving Consumed by Melissa Toppen 4 out of 5 champagne glasses.
Ok I'm not going to lie when I first started this book I was not feeling well and was super tired, so I told myself I would read a couple pages then go to sleep, well that went right out of my head because Addison pulled me right in and I was instantly hooked!! I love how Addison found herself among her breakup with Grayson and kept on through out the whole book, even when her heart wavered her mind was there to snap her out of it which is sexy and powerful!!! Now Liam, Liam, Liam!! I totally agreed with Addison he was something much more(you will see no spoilers here) even with those thoughts Liam was easy to love, how he cares for Addison how he makes her see her own self worth through his eyes and his actions (sighs) you will fall in love even harder with Addison's man, all the things he does for her and (shudders) to her, well yummy doesn't do him justice, neither does sexy, addictive, divine, caring, protective, and hot!! Nope those words only show you a small piece of Addison's Liam. Kristina and Dana are the best friends every girl/woman hopes to have, friends who love you at your best and say your freaking awesome at your worst now here's some chocolate and oh yeah we are going out to party!!! Yes I loved these two women on team Addie!! Aunt Kelly sounded like a blast that even though I have a pretty awesome aunt I wanted to reach in and steal Aunt Kelly just for a bit... I loved this story so much that when I got to the end of the ebook I kept flicking my finger across the screen because I couldn't believe it was over, but to my epic sadness it had ended on a CLIFFHANGER lol but to my relief the next page was saying the second book was already out which I normally would put on my never ending future books to buy but nope I added it to my must pay today bills and shopping list because I want to see where Addison and Liam end up!! Definitely recommend this book!! Melissa Toppen you have created a beautiful story that has hooked me since the first page and for that I thank you!!!
I received a copy of this book from the author for my honest review.
I thought it was a good book. It was mild, compared to some of the books I have been reading. It was a nice change.
Addison moves to Las Vegas with her long time boyfriend Grayson, so he can pursue his career as a lawyer at his uncle's law firm. One day out of no where Addison comes home and sees all her belongings packed up and boxed. This was so sudden and out of no where for her, that she couldn't believe she was getting kicked out and dumped. Being with Grayson for eight years, she begins to think about their relationship and where did it go wrong. Kicked out of the only home she knows, she moves in with her friend and co-worker Kristina. Trying to get over her break-up, her friends, Dana and Kristina convince Addison to go out and have a good time. As they are out, they end up at a club and this is where she meets a good looking bartender and she knows he's out of her league, but she's interested. Addison, encounters the bartender while she's on her run and this is where they are introduced to one another.
As the book progress, Addison and Liam begin to see each other, but Addison doesn't want to jump into a relationship with Liam, since she's just gotten out of one. But there is an undeniable physical and emotional attraction they both have to each other. There is one thing that will break this couple apart and will Addison be able make it work or walk away.

This is my review for all three books in the series. I really liked this series that came out of nowhere for me. I picked the first book up on sale and since that ended in a cliffy and I thoroughly cared to know what happened next, I proceeded to read the second book. From there I was in it and you know how that goes!
Book one was the "feel" book for me. We get to know Addison's character and what happened with Grayson and their 8 year relationship. We are introduced to Liam the bartender and things set off from there.
Book two was the angsty book. Things seem to be good between Addi and Liam but beneath it all lies secrets, betrayal and a big ol' cliffy!
Book three we get resolution. A great story and thankfully some explanations and closure. Throughout the series things are pretty hot between Liam and Addison (nothing kinky just steam). Liam is an alpha male that leans towards the controlling side but not over the top. I enjoyed this series and look forward to reading more by this author.
what an amazing series! the storyline kept my interest and the characters are well developed. one of my favorite things about this series is how real the characters are. they do not have a crazy broken past that they have to work through. I'm not saying they don't have issues...but the issues they have are realistic and believable. the characters are down to earth and seemingly real. the series never gets so over the top that it's unbelievable. the story has a lot of romance and some red hot scenes but sex is always secondary to the story. I never felt like the author was dragging out the story just to fill pages or adding fluff just to have the characters jump back into bed, which was nice. there are a few minor editing issues, which were irritating but not so drastic that it detracted from the story for me.
Another fabulous and creative love story with grief, turmoil, trust issues and abandoment issues.
Melissa tells the story of Eden who is heartbroken after a long-term relationship that ended with questions and doubts. Only, Eden finds herself somehow thrown into a fast paced relationship with all the feels and butterflies that were absent from her previous relationship. Is she moving to fast? Can she trust this amazing man who worships her and the gravity around her? And most importantly... Can she really find true acceptance and love and not insecurity when taking self inventory?
A beautiful read. Take a moment and breathe through this beautiful, confusing and sparkling love tale...Melissa knows how to write them. Thats for sure!!!
I truly enjoy reading Melissa Toppen's books and this one is a favorite. Liam and Eden had so much chemistry and I felt it. The push and pull of the relationship pulled at my heart. Eden's parents made me laugh and smile. Loved their relationship. The ending was perfection. Hopefully we'll get Layla and Alice's stories! They were the perfect friends! I had to put this book down several times because of a busy weekend and I couldn't wait to get back to it. I plan to re-read when I can do so in one sitting.
*I received an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary review.
Liam and Eden have a heart consuming story with all the feels. Liam is a very successful business,an who has been closed off for so long. I loved how he kept immersing himself in Edens life after he first saw her. Eden was a fun character although I did find her a little wishy-washy. Their story is packed with all the feels and some interesting little twists. The supporting characters of her best friends brought some great humor and spontaneity to the story line
A beautifully crafted tale that pulls you in with every word. You will stand up in cheer for Addison and feel her heartbreak. Each piece picked up by Liam. Absolutely loved him! Be prepared to fallin love with the characters Melissa Toppen creates.
**I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review**
I have to say that I was smitten with this book from the beginning to end. The story really captivated me and it was one of those books that you start to read and just can't find yourself to put down.
Addison is a girl who gets her heart broken by her boyfriend of 8 years. She thought that they would be together forever, but not everything works out the way we want right!
Liam is an ordinary guy working as a bartender at one of the nightclubs at the hotels on the Las Vegas strip. Liam and Addison meet one night when she goes out with her friends and there's instant attraction. Addison doesn't want to act on her feelings towards him because she's still hurt by what happened with Grayson, she needs to get over that first before she can think about another relationship.
Liam is a mysterious man and he isn't straightforward with Addison and that's the one thing that Addison does not approve of, is lies. Even though Addison is drawn to Liam she really gives him a run for his money and boy does she play hard to get (you go girl!)
I loved the fact that Addison was a very pretty strong heroine in spite of what happened to her and how her ex treated her. I loved Liam and all the mysteriousness he had going for him. Loved how relentless he was in pursuing Addison and he wouldn't give up because he knew that she was it for him.
The only problem is that he wasn't honest with her from the get go and now this is going to be a big factor in the 2nd book, which now I am dying to read because I need to know what is going to happen with these two lovebirds.
I thought this was a very well written story and found that I fell in love with the characters in this book. Her friends are even wonderful to her and are there to support her no matter what. Nowadays, it's hard to have true caring friends like that.
Ms. Toppen, I give you 5 stars on this book. I truly loved it and can't wait to continue reading about Addison and Liam
Consumed written by Melissa Toppen is my forty-eighth book that I have received and read from Goodreads. This story is about a young woman by the name of Addison, who thinks that she is in love with her boyfriend Grayson. They both from a small town in Vermont, they dated thru high school and college exclusively. Grayson graduates and is a lawyer and Addison gets her degree in Business and Marketing. Grayson takes a job with his uncle's law firm in Las Vegas Nevada. Addison packs up their bags and they move to Nevada, get a apartment together, she gets a job in marketing and life seems just grand, until the day she comes home and finds her stuff packed up in boxes, and their eight year relationship over. Addison finds herself for the first time unsure what the future holds. Addison moves into a place with a coworker. Addisons coworkers take her out on the town, and by chance meets a gorgeous looking bartender. Liam Mason isn't just your average bartender. Their is something about him that Addison can't quite figure out. As much as Addison tries to fight her feelings for Liam, his constant pursuit of her makes it impossible to resist his charms Addison lands a major project at work, which in turn makes her unknowingly discover Liam is not who he says he is. You will have to read this book to find out what happens. This book is for adults. I would like to thank the author Melissa Toppen for taking the time to sign my book.
This book was more exciting than the first, would've given it a 4 stars except one scene pissed me off. This definitely reminded me of 50 shades (not the BDSM) but the whole rich man, buys her clothes, driver, etc. (I love me a rich alpha so I don't mind ;) )
(Spoilers ahead) When Liam advances Addison's career through his connections. Like Addison said, it's unfair she got opportunities while she's been there for months whereas others have been there for years. It just irked me that it stayed this way.
Also, at a bar that night she's hugging another man and dancing with him and when Liam shows up she plays it down. I think it's horrible what she did. Yes, she says she felt nothing towards him, but if it had been Liam who was dancing that close to a girl, I'm such most readers would have been so pissed off. And THEN she leaves with him in the same cab as the guy. Here, she's at fault and what pissed me off more is: 1) she couldn't even apologize 2) Liam ended up apologising ..... Are you kidding?
Oh and then they don't even talk about what happens.
If I saw my boyfriend dancing that close to a girl... He better be apologising to me I would not apologise.
Besides these two scenes, it's an easy entertaining read and I love Liam and I actually do like Addison when she's not being super whiny hahaha
Overall Rating :: 2.5-3 stars Series :: Book two of the Breathless series Hero/Heroine :: Liam/Addison POV :: Brief prologue from Liam, the rest is from Addison. Cliffhanger :: Yes. HEA ::
I really want to like this book series. I really do. But the grammatical and spelling issues are too frequent, and the personality of the characters is too limited. Not to mention, the issues between Liam and Addison seem tacked on, or are resolved after a few conversations. Then a big drama ball is dropped within the last few pages, which leads into the next (and again, is resolved after a chapter or two). I don't think it's necessary for their relationship to be dragged on for three books. I'll finish out the series, but blah.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I was Gifted this book by the author for my honest review. Along with another of her books (Collide)
Melissa Toppen has one of the best writing styles i have seen for a long time. Her books flow and make such an easy read its difficult to find any faults in her work.
Her characters are captivating and you feel like you know and care for them as you are reading about their lives.
Addison and Liam are no different. Though they start their relationship in one of the most strange ways it works. they work. She has just been dumped on the side of the road by her long term boyfriend and he well, he has a little bit of a 'colorful' past with women.
She has trust issues and he wants her to trust him; which due to his past end up being a difficult thing for Addison to do.
Leaving the book on a cliff hanger has honestly made me itch for more! I Loved this book and this book couple and i cant wait to find out what happens next for them!
I'm a big fan of Melissa Toppen so I tend to read everything she puts out. That being said, somehow I missed out on the Breathless books but here we are with them altogether. I enjoyed how it all started, and the second book was not slow in the least, but I just wasn't a fan of our heroine to be honest. I felt like she was the selfish one not to mention hypocritical but that's just me. I usually always have the heroine's back but this is one of those rare cases where I don't. I felt bad for her because of the reason she met our hero, who I loved a ton. I'm trying to be as vague as I can be because the feelings I have about something I read are just that, mine so I don't want to put too much out there because we all have our own opinions. It could be that this is on me after my very bad week, so I will go back & revisit it just to see. Anyway, that's enough rambling, I hope y'all will decide for yourselves by hitting those one click buttons! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
3.5 stars! Nice, easy read and what I was looking for.
I did find how quick they fell for each other kind of unbelievable. I was hoping for more development into their love.
I think that MORE should've happened. It was such a neutral read at times ... Not boring ... but not giving me butterflies the way books should for me to give them 4 stars.
I did like both MC's, I think Liam is so so sweet! I like Addison and understood why in the beginning she kept trying to push him away.
It's a sexy short story, and easy to read. It does end in a cliffhanger and I'm already in book 2 and it's more exciting ;) it's giving me more butterflies.
Oh, but I have to admit, I saw the twist in the end coming from the beginning, which took away shock factor for me.
I liked the way the author introduced our H and h, and the early push and pull of their relationship, but eventually the angst overwhelmed the story. In addition, all the guys looked the same, the only variable being the width of their shoulders. And all the women were blonde and perfect - which does reflect reality in Vegas, but that side-bar was left hanging. The core story was solid, but I got tired of sexual attraction overriding unforgivable sins. One intense kiss and all was forgiven.
This story had a fair amount of sex, which had the potential to be really hot, but many of the scenes didn't do anything for me. Add in more than a few editing errors, and this grades out as 3 stars.
Watch Me Burn is a book you will not want to put down. I was pulled in from the very beginning and did not want to be anywhere but in Addison and Liam's world. I am so in love with this book. Addison is a sweetheart who finally has clear head on after being in a long relationship. Liam is a mystery that you cannot wait to solve. There is this instant pull between Addison and Liam that you are going to just love. This is a rollercoaster ride of a relationship that you will not want to get off the ride. Liam and Addison are hot together. You will go through a few changes within Addison and Liam as they navigate this intense relationship, work on trust issues and overcoming the past. I loved every moment of this one. You need to fall in love with Addison and Liam today.
