The final installment in the extraordinary time-traveling adventures of Katie-Berger-Jones-Burg
Katie Berger-Jones-Burg is a lonely New York teenager. It's Christmas, and with her pop-star mother away on a whirlwind tour, all is not well with Katie. She is having visions, and she realizes she is needed in another time. In 1860 it's Christmas too. Princess Alice is helping her father Prince Albert with his endless stream of work while the rest of the family—including Queen Victoria—is enjoying the wonderful snow. But the merry royal family is under a shadow. There is a plot—both political and supernatural—to bring down the Queen. A Britain without its Queen is weak, and where Britain stumbles, the rest of the world falls.
K.A.S Quinn was born and raised in California. She was educated at Vassar in New York, where she took a degree in History and English, receiving honours for her thesis on tuberculosis and its representation in Victorian painting and literature (Conspicuous Consumption). For the past ten years she has been the publisher of the prestigious Spectator magazine. Her office in the row houses of Doughty St. abutted Charles Dickens’ home. She has written for The Times, The Telegraph, The Independent and The Wall Street Journal as well as appearing on Any Questions, A Good Read, Famous Lives and Broadcasting House for the BBC. In 2003 she was a judge for the Jewish Quarterly Literary Award. She is married to Stephen Quinn, the publishing director of Vogue magazine. They live in London and have two small boys. She still reads children’s books, in bed, with a torch.
Such a sad goodbye. The chronicles is finally closing. Sayang dari awal bacanya versi bahasa Indonesia, jadi penasaran deh sekarang rasanya gimana kalo baca versi Inggrisnya. Hehe.
Oh right. I should write this in english, just in case Quinn herself would want to read this.. just in case, I said. No fingers crossed. You deserve my praise because you gave me so much inspiration, more than I could imagine. To see history the way you did with the series, to question things about our surroundings just like how you interpret those in Katie's adventures, they are all inspiring to me.
It gave me insights of how to send messages about peace and self-search in ways that are enjoyable. I have never found any stories that came up with such refreshing ideas. I do admit I feel the last book was not as strong as the last books because the burden it has in giving everyone a good ending and filling in any plot holes, but overall, it was amazing.
These books showed me how to appreciate history in a way that I have never thought of before. I'd love to see this kind of work from my local authors, actually. It made me jealous of the culture and history that are being re-told by your stories. I want people to learn about my culture and my history as well, in such an enjoyable way. So thank you for that experience. :)
And thank you for all the little details - the wars, the brief history lesson, the culture. They are deeply appreciated! Amazing work, I hope you won't EVER stop writing! ^^
Took me 2 months to read this, not because im a slow reader but this book is boring. Like the second boring after The Queen at War. 1. The civil war problem is being mentioned too often (which it took almost half of the book) to be solved in ‘THAT’ way. 2. I don’t think this Reilly O’ Jackson’s appearance made a big impact. He’s forgettable. 3. I was dissapointed at a chapter where the author wrote Alice and James like they are having a fling when it was just a pure bestfriend relationship and James-worshipped-Alice-because-she’s-the-damn-princess. Good thing they didn’t end up together. 4. Why did the author changed Dr. O’Reilly’s name writing to Brendan O’Reilly which is strange for me like it makes me think they are different person. 5. I love the Brislington chapter, i can really feel the atmosphere at a horrific asylum and its brutal doctor and employees. 6. I wish the author wrote the downfall of Belzen though.
Overall, 3/5. I still love The Queen Must Die the most. Reading this whole series was a rollercoaster ride since i got them one by one through the years. This series taught me a lot like history and how it connected to so many historical events; friendship—i love the trio so much it touched my heart; and many more.
hmm... I think this one is actually less exciting and more devastating -_- but well if you want to stick to the real history as close as possible... I guess that's how you should end it. It was quite wise, nonetheless
i had been waiting for this book like.. forever. I think this book wasn't as adventurous as the two previous series. But im still glad to finally find something worth reading.
