Welcome to the surreal world of Peter: A Darkened Fairytale. Some of the strangest ideas have been taken and twisted into a new selection of 27 Short Poems and Tiny Thoughts - Surreal Peter.
As always, the poetry books give hints to the forthcoming novels in the Peter stories. Look out for more escapades throughout the year from Peter, Slip and their bizarre friends.
For this moment, enjoy the confusing, sometimes illogical places in the realm of Peter. Go plunging with Seebright the lift attendant, enter portals to Snakedom and Boaland through Boyle the barber's opening head. Get ready to be hunted by the witch Heriot White, live in a magic box and soar with dragons. Take the 4.02 key and slide it into your mind for a trippy disturbed adventure.
Living in a small village in Lancashire, England, the author has written a number of books based on the tale 'Peter'.
In the 1990s, the author had twenty-one articles published, both nationally and internationally. After gaining an honours degree in Geosciences, doing post-graduate study in Occupational Health and Fitness, and earning a masters degree in Science Communication, he developed an interest for simple communication.
A passion for writing again emerged, and combining various interests in fine art, museum exhibition display, biology, geology, poetry, and the mystical led to the story of Peter: A Darkened Fairytale. The author still retains a childlike vision of the world, which is conveyed throughout his books.
Again a vivid story of colors, movement, magic, characters and setting all within a few words. There is definitely a dark feel to this fanciful fantasy story told through poems.
Written with brilliant creativity, Surreal Peter invites you to go beyond the familiar, solid reality into a realm where the double edged sword of danger and excitement might be found. Fittingly, the collection opens with a guileful invitation:
Haha ... strange boy Would you like a journey? Watch the toys Tread the beams Do you want to fly? Trip to the scene I am in your head And I shall never leave
These ‘whispers of insanity’ are not even titled, they just come floating at you from the pages of the book, at times aiming to frighten you:
Fate is turning Doors now switch Trapped in darkness Evil's wish
Other times, the author joins you, traveling by your side in this journey
Such fun We will have Together Walking with death
And always, he offers an outlook for hope, for renewal at the end of this journey. There is always a light that beacons from afar even as we are still in a dark place:
Fire of dragon Purging the world Cleanses the palette Holds new birth
This is a wonderful collection, and when taken together with the body of work that the author, William O’Brien, has created, it illuminates a complete universe of magic in which Peter lives.
In..."SURREAL PETER ~ Short Poems & Tiny Thoughts", the author deals with the demons of insanity. I like his positive twist on life as he dedicates this book "for everyone blessed by the smallest whispers of insanity". This is a somewhat unique way to view life. But then...I for one, find it rather refreshing.
When I was a young child, I was exposed to the fairy tales penned by Brothers Grimm. Whenever I read the musings of Author William O'Brien, these previous fairytales and folklore come to mind. Although the styles and tales are different, there is a familiar thread of creative writing talent to be discovered in this Boxed Collection. It stretches the imagination of its reading audience and will appeal to all ages...both young and old alike. The covers to each of these books are incredible!
"Surreal Peter (Peter: A Darkened Fairytale #4) Short Poems & Tiny Thoughts - Vol 2" by William O'Brien is a short but very memorable selection of poems. In this series the author has created a wonderful dialogue between these poems and his novel-length stories about Peter: A Darkened Fairytale. With all the charm that magic can bring these poems have all the best from the world of fairy tales: Dragons, wizards, fairies and a lot of mystery. They remind me of Narnia, Alice in Wonderland and magic realism with their classic and original ideas. Told in sometimes almost cryptic and rhythmic staccato style, the flow is fast and engaging, dragging you faster into the dark and wonderful world of Peter. It is odd and surreal but utterly engaging.
Surreal Peter (Peter: A Darkened Fairytale): by William O'Brien is of course another wonderful addition to my library from this author!
I buy all of William O'Brien's books! They are big hits with me and my grandchildren! If you haven't read 'Peter A Darkened Fairytale' you really should! It is an awesome book, if you don't believe me, buy this magical book of enchanting poems and there is an extra gift at the end to get you started.
Always amazing in his descriptions and mystical words the author has truly found his calling and I cannot wait for the next in the series 'Peter Crank's Time'
5 Surreal stars and waiting impatiently for the next book Mr. William O'Brien!
n yet another volume of special poems and writings surrounding his novel, Peter: A Darkened Fairytale, author William O’Brien bring us more magic. Surreal Peter (Peter: A Darkened Fairytale): Short Poems & Tiny Thoughts - Vol 2 is another wonderful collection. This says it all:
Reaching over lightly touch The gentle world To be loved as such
Read this independently or with the other Peter books and be transported to a place of magic, beauty and dreams. Highly recommended 5-stars.
This (unfortunately) short collection of poetry by William O'Brien is absolutely brilliant. I loved the way O'Brien tells his stories using only brief and short rhymes. Sometimes it reminded me Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon for the writing style and the topic. This ebook is perfect for short-distance commuters, in my opinion. I read it on the Tube while moving not too far from my place and time flew.
This book contains the second collection of short poems from the world created in O'Brien's novel 'Peter: A Darkened Fairytale'. The story-telling in this poetry is as captivating as the wonderful imagery used. There are sinister touches a plenty in this collection but there is also a sense of hope. This is another excellent addition to the world of Peter. Pick it up and go off on a well-crafted magical journey. Highly recommended!
‘Peter: a Darkened Fairytale’, William O’Brien’s book featured a ten-year old boy as protagonist as he struggled to find his way through a strange and dangerous fantasy world. Here, the author examines the darker aspects of Peter’s journey through the use of poetry that will stimulate the imagination of the children and adults equally. His dominance of the language is reflected in an economy of words that create sparkling images, like fireworks exploding in your mind. Recommended.
Magical, Mystical and Masterful! I grabbed this one from William O'Brien after reading A Darkened Fairytale. I found the poetry to be so original and thought provoking. Having a have a long commute to and from the office, I treated myself by doing the text to speech on my Kindle and I thoroughly enjoyed this book of short poems. Each poem gave you just a dabble into the world of Peter, magical, twisted and intricate and I'm left wanting more.
An inspired follow up to O'Brien's fairy tale featuring the wildly imaginative adventures of Peter on his tenth birthday. The inspiration is doled out in snippets; small poems tied to Peter's story, more or less. The bits will make you think, and at least a little of that thought will be about what else this writer might have penned.
A collection of short whimsical poems inspired by the fantasy story Peter: A Darkened Fairytale. Great imaginative pieces about witches, toads, elves, dragons, demons, fairies, and everything fantastical. Delightful.
I loved Surreal Peter, an introduction to the characters of Peter...a darkened fairytale. The author draws his readers into a fantasy land where the characters come to life. A wonderful writer, I am recommending this read along with Peter, A darkened fairytale to fantasy fans.
My tablet kindle storage is fit to burst so I'm having a tidy up and found this delightful selection of poems with a teaser of 'Peter a Darkened Fairytale ' I love the flow and rhythm throughout this delightfully strange read.
Here's my favourite:
Bathe amid Coloured light Feast on rainbows In daylight Takes away Depth of night All the hurt Demons slide Travel home Safe again
