As the oldest son, Chadwick Beaumont has sacrificed everything for the Beaumont's company, but he swore he'd never follow in his father's philandering footsteps. So, for years, he's dutifully kept his distance from the temptation outside his office door--his beautiful secretary Serena Chase.
But now everything has changed. The family business is in jeopardy. His personal life is in shambles. And his sexy assistant is suddenly single--and flirting. Chadwick is tired of doing what's expected. It's time for him to go after what he wants. And what he wants is Serena--even if she's expecting another man's child.

This was a sweet office romance. There was very little drama in the plot. Chadwick the hero of the story was never mean or cruel. Serena was Chadwick's personal assistant. She has worked for him for 8 years. Both Serena, and Chadwick were in unhappy relationships until recently. Serena was in her relationship for 9 years. Chadwick was married to Helen. Helen only cared about how much he made, or should I say how much she could spend. It seemed like Chadwick supported a lot of people. He worked hard, while others took advantage, and never had to work for what they were given. He sees something special in Serena. She takes pleasures in the simple things, and never spends a lot. She makes him want to make changes in his life.
Serena had spent her whole life running from her hellish childhood. Chadwick spent his trying not be the kind of man his father was. So the two had things that happened in the past, to make them the people they are together. Can they find happiness or will they always be trying to be something more than what they are?
I liked this slightly better than Falling for Her Fake Fiance. because I could better relate to the heroine. Chadwick was a bit of a douche, though, and his opinion that middle class kids shouldn't be in 5 stars restaurants because they don't know how to act was offensive. (I have no idea why that particular, off the cuff observation grated so much, but it did.) It's not like his siblings, now adults, act any better in polite company. Ugh. I just don't like the Beaumont heirs. I will give His Illegitimate Heir a shot but if that doesn't work for me, I'm finished with the series. I guess if a Sarah M Anderson book doesn't have horses, cowboys, or bulls, I'm not going to like it.
Good start to a new series. Chadwick is the CEO of the family business. As the oldest, that is what he was raised to do; he was given no choice. He has worked long hours to make the business a success, while his ten siblings/half-siblings/step-siblings do nothing but find ways to spend money. His wife filed for divorce almost two years ago, but is holding out on finalizing it because she wants more money. A large conglomerate wants to buy his company. The only thing that has made his life bearable is his executive assistant. He's been attracted to her for years, but he's been married, she's been in a relationship, and he refuses to be anything like his philandering late father. So he has kept his distance.
Serena's long term relationship recently ended, then she discovered that she was pregnant. She worries that she could lose her job, which she needs now more than ever. She had a poverty filled childhood and has sworn that she will never allow herself to live like that again. She's always been attracted to her boss, but doing something about it was not an option. She is determined to keep things strictly professional.
I loved Chadwick and Serena. Both of them have high standards for themselves. Chadwick is really a nice guy who has been caught up in a bad situation. His father raised him to be the heir. He wasn't ever shown any love from either parent, and his father was actually abusive. But Chadwick is honorable and responsible and has done his best for the company at the expense of his own happiness. Serena has always been independent and determined to have a better life. Her parents had loved her, but were fiscally irresponsible and she didn't want to live like that again.
I loved Chadwick's ability to see that something was off for Serena, and how he wanted her to know that he would be there for her. It was then that they realized that there was more between them than just business. I loved seeing Chadwick trying to do things for Serena and being completely confused by her attitude about it. It wasn't until their dinner out together that he began to fully understand what her life had been like. I also liked seeing the way that he opened up to her about his childhood and the effect it had on his life. It was her encouragement that had him looking at his future in a different way. Serena was equally sensitive to Chadwick and his problems. She could see that the business troubles were tearing him up and tried to help him work through what it all meant for him. I loved the way she listened to him tell about his childhood and didn't pity him, but admired the man he was in spite of it.
The heat between them was intense, but so was their determination to do what was right. The night that they shared after the gala showed them what they could have together, but they also knew that they had stepped over the line when it came to working together. What followed was heartbreaking, but also showed Serena standing up for what she thought was right. I loved Chadwick's solution to the problem and how he came after Serena once he had it all worked out.
I'm looking forward to Phillip and Matthew's stories, and wonder if there will be stories for the other siblings. If the others are as good as this one, I sure hope there will be.
3.5 This book surprised me. It had all the things I don't normally like another man's child, adultery, boss and secretary affair. But it was really well done.
****Harlequin Desire via NetGalley provided me with a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review**** 4 1/2 stars Chadwick has spent his life trying not to be his and working at the family company making money only to have his siblings waste it, he has watched his secretary and secretly wanted her but has put it out of his as she is off limits. His life is being turned upside down with a vindictive ex-wife, vultures at the door wanting the businesses and all he wants his Serena. Serena has wanted Chadwick for years but has put her attraction to him in a box and tightly locked it, now out of a long relationship she finds out she is pregnant, sparks ignite and the two of them find themselves wondering if it’s possible to have what you want. I was on a horror/thriller reading binge for a couple days before I picked this book up for something light and fluffy, when I finished it I just went It was so sweet that I couldn’t help myself, Chadwick was just so dang adorable at times and then there was the other times when he was getting his sexy on that I had to do a double take because I didn’t think he had it in him, butoh boy he did. I loved Serena, she may have been hard headed at times but I could see that she was trying to do what was best for everyone in each situation and while I sometimes got annoyed with her I still had to like her for standing up for herself. The storyline itself is not a new one, but the way it is written and the little details added to it but it new, you can see how the author adds her own twists to the story and makes it her own. Overall this was a really good quick read; it will be fun to see what happens with the rest of the Beaumont family.
Great start to a new series. This Beaumont family is going to be some drama. Chadwick has had a rough childhood and ten siblings (half, whole, step). Serena grew up poor and is determined to never go back. Throw in take-overs, a surprise pregnancy, a nasty ex-wife who wants ALOT of money, crazy siblings, smoking sex, a sweet romance and you have a nice twist on a familiar tale. I look forward to the next book.
Nothing spectacular. Although copyrighted 2014, the story was quite simple and reminiscent of the 70s or 80s. Cannot see a 21st century femme being so weak.
This was the first book by Sarah Anderson that I’ve read and I enjoyed it. I liked the heroine a great deal—her heartwrenchingly poor background and irresponsible parents shaped her into a very responsible woman who values stability above all else, which I admired about her.
The hero was sympathetic, too—he was trying to move away from the shadow of his infamous two-timing, womanizer father while keeping the company together, not helped by his spendthrift playboy younger brother and greedy, grasping soon-to-be ex-wife. The turmoil and conflict in his life is very real and emotional, and I could really feel for him.
The two of them together seemed so perfect for each other, because she was completely resistant to his wealth and gifts, and uncomfortable with anything she hasn’t worked for herself, and he has no experience with women like that, since all the women in his life have been hard and selfish.
While I could see how they fit together emotionally, it was a little hard for me to feel their sexual attraction to each other. At times I felt I was being told about their attraction to each other rather than feeling it myself. But I liked reading about how they handled their relationship despite all the obstacles.
I was really interested to see how the hero’s external problems would resolve themselves, and the author did that in a really nice way. A good resolution and happy ending to this book.
She’s been his secretary for 7 years and even though she was in a relationship she had a slight crush on him. He was married and also had a crush on her. But 2 years ago his wife left his bed and she is putting him through a hellish divorce.
She grew up poor and is very dedicated to working for stability. He was guided since birth to run the family brewery corporation.
Them being together seems impossible… until she tells him to go after what he wants - and what he wants is her. Hot scene in front of mirror 🔥🔥🔥
Hea proposal and he wants to adopt her baby

I didn't like it. They liked each other for 9 years, but were in relationships with other people. Then heroine got pregnant at end of her relationship with her boyfriend's baby, not a fan of that at all.
I didn't like that hero's ex got $100 million in divorce settlement, she was horrid and I wanted him to figure out a way to not pay her very much.
Whoa on the melodrama. The heorine was a bit annoying and the hero just paid everyone to fix his problems. Even with a prenup he laid down and gave his ex 100 million. Both were TSTL I skimmed it. Glad it was a library ebook and I didn’t pay for this.
Will he finally realize what he wants to do with his life not only professionally but also personally?
This is the first installment in Beaumont Heirs Series and I have to say that it was a great start. I was able to get a peak into some of Chadwick’s siblings. This was a story that drew me in from the very beginning the only bad thing was that it was too short. I wanted so much more; I wanted an epilogue fast forward 1 year. I love that I was able to connect not only with Chadwick but also with Serena. There childhood stories were so sad. Now let’s get into some good parts.
Chadwick Beaumont and Serena Chase work together. He is her boss and she is his executive assistant. He knew he was not going to be like his father so a company policy was written and now he was in trouble but so was she.
Serena found out that she was pregnant and worse of all her boyfriend was no longer a boyfriend but now an ex. She needed to tell him but she couldn’t find him. Chadwick knew that something was wrong, there was something off with Serena and now he knew why, Serena was no longer with Neil. He had feelings for her but he remembered what his father did, he slept with his secretaries and he would never do that.
Chadwick wanted her and he wanted to do something nice for her and now that she did not have a date for the gala he was going to be her date. They were going to dinner and then to the gala but first he was going to buy her a gown and all the accessories. While they are shopping for a dress and champagne is offered she declines and Chadwick finds out that she is pregnant.
After the gala Chadwick finds himself wanting Serena like now and she feels the same way. They have a passionate night but guess what they broke company policy but worst of all he is still married. Will he be able to make Serena see that what they have is possible? Will Serena be able to believe in him, trust in him?
Not the Boss’s Baby was a great short read. The characters were well developed and the chemistry, wow. The storyline was captivating and it was very descriptive. I love easy reads that don’t take much thinking. I love when I’m able to curl up on my sofa and just enjoy a good book. Believe me I was cheering for Chadwick and Serena he was a dream come true. I loved that he wanted to go to her doctor’s appointment and that he actually remembered no matter what happened between them.
I totally recommend this read to all readers that love romance stories.

Chadwick’s the wealthy CEO of his family’s brewery, and Serena works as his executive assistant. With Serena pregnant by her ex and Chadwick battling a takeover as well as an ugly divorce, it’s a messy time to start a relationship, but they can’t resist.
Some readers may have issues with Chadwick’s marital status, though it’s made really clear that the marriage is over and he was faithful until then. His wife was a little hard to take, I maybe would have preferred to see her harpiness dialed down a bit, but I appreciated that ultimately Chadwick shared the blame for the breakdown of their marriage.
This is a Desire, so there’s an emphasis on steaminess and sexual attraction, though for me, the book shone brightest in the friendship beneath the lust, where Serena and Chadwick encouraged and leaned on each other. Yeah, he does the typical romance thing of showering her in designer goods, but the truly romantic and refreshing moment was when thanks to Serena’s nudging, Chadwick make’s a life choice that you wouldn’t ordinarily see from a driven alpha in a romance.
On the not so refreshing side, Serena’s a size ten, the author did a great job of showing that Chadwick’s into Serena’s curves, and she isn’t ashamed of them, and yet, the model on the cover is thinner than the character. There’s all sorts of beautiful in the world; it would be nice if publishers recognized that, then women might see it in their own mirrors.
Steamy romance novels are no longer something I read much of, but the cover of this book grabbed my attention. Ms. Anderson knows how to keep her readers hooked and will be an author whose books will always be on my one-click list.
Having said that...
I absolutely disliked Chadwick Beaumont with a passion. He is a pompous, micro-managing ass who can be such a coward.
Serena, however, is a strong woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to stand her ground. Throughout the book, as she deals with the ever-changing hormonal influx that pregnancy brings, she gets stronger and stands by her convictions. She'd rather raise her baby alone, given the other options she comes across in this book.
Anderson's writing is good and she definitely knows how to write a steamy love scene. Her characters throughout the book, both main and secondary, are fleshed out and well developed. It's obvious that each Beaumont family member that we meet will have their own book and I'm looking forward to them.
If there is one complaint I have, it's that the romance that should have been interlaced within the conflict that both characters face, with each other and in their own lives. Instead, within the first few pages Serena and Chadwick act on feelings that they'd otherwise kept hidden for who knows how long.
Disclaimer: I received a review copy from the publisher on Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Serena can't believe the secure life she has worked so hard for is in danger, all from a positive pregnancy test. She knows what it means to grow up with nothing and that will not be the future for her child. Chadwick is tired of all the demands of his family and his estranged wife who won't settle their divorce. The only constant support in his life these past years has been his executive assistant Serena.
I liked Serena and I think her character was written very well. She articulated all the uncertainty of growing up on welfare very well to Chadwick. Chadwick lived a childhood of privileged but not a lot of love. The writing sort of made me appreciate the pressure he was under. The feelings they had for each other seemed to have been under the surface for years, but it took their personal situations for a spark to ignite.
The plot is rather simple, but there are subtle points that will be carried through to other books. This is a Harlequin Desire book so the focus is more on their attraction and "desire" for each other; however the limited intimate scenes are borderline steamy. The ending was quick and not as satisfying for me; however since this is a series I think we may see more glimpses at this couples HEA in other books. (I hope so!)
I received this book from the author for my honest review.
Not the Boss's Baby was about about a guy named Chadwick who owned the Beaumont Brewery Company after his father and he didn't want to follow in his fathers steps of cheating and sleeping his employees, but its hard for Chadwick to do when he has a secretary, Serena, who he's wanted ever since she started her job there. Thing is..she's pregnant with her ex-boyfriends child, but that doesn't seem to stop Chadwick from going for her. He asks her to go to dinner with him, then to the gala, but that night he doesn't go home. Instead, he wakes up in Serena's bed wearing nothing.
I honestly find it disgusting to sleep with someone who is pregnant with somebody else's kid. It was a cute book and all filled with romance between a boss and a secretary, but really? To have sex with someone who's pregnant? I find it gross and the book probably would've been a bit better and more about romance if she wasn't pregnant. The ending was pretty cute though. i hate to be a spoiler, but he shows up and proposes to her. Like...awh. He says he'll adopt the baby and everything. When a guy says something like that you can't help but smile.
Its a short, romance filled book that id suggest for people going through a pregnancy alone cause who knows..maybe they'll read it and think that something like that will happen to them and make them feel good inside. who knows.
While everyone thinks Chadwick Beaumont is an arrogant SOB who takes after his philandering father, Chadwick is just trying to hold on to his family's brewery and not let down his family or his employees. He was groomed from childhood to run the brewery, but never really given a chance to do what he wanted. While his brothers and sisters have had no problem doing what pleased them, Chadwick has been stuck with the duty of being the Beaumont heir. Now with the brewery in danger of being bought out, he is forced to determine what he really wants to do with his life.
More and more, it looks like that life will include Serena Chase, his executive secretary. He had always been attracted to her, but he was married and she had a long-time boyfriend. Now, things have changed, and Chadwick is about to go after what he's always wanted. There's just one slight problem--Serena finds out she's pregnant with her ex's baby, and she really needs the company to stay in friendly hands so she doesn't lose her job and health insurance. While she's fast falling for Chadwick, she can't afford to let her heart take over when she needs a stable life for her baby.
This is a great beginning to the Beaumont Heirs series, and I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the family!
Chadwick is a CEO and is in the midst of divorcing his wife while Serena, who is his personal assistant is also having some relationship issues and is pregnant. With the large conglomerate wanting to buy his family business, Chadwick found out that the only thing that he can trust and bearable is Serena. If he were to be truthful, he have feeling for her for years but because of his complicated relationship and his resistance to be a player like his late father, he kept his distance until now. He is determine to support her and provide for her in time to come should the takeover of the company materialialised. Being alone and pregnant, Serena is worry about her financial situation. She grew up in poverty where money is always an issues. She doesn’t want to raise her baby in the same situation as her.
The book have a simple plot with not so transparent issues that will enable it to be carries over to another book. I guess it happened all the time in a series. I love Chadwick. He is calm in his way of handling the issues in his life. Be it personal or in his career. Though I was a little sceptical with Serena’s condition which is rather unusual initially, overall, this book is a good read for me.
Light reading but enggaging!
Not the Boss’s Baby by Sarah M. Anderson is a well written romance with a office romance plot. There is a twist in the story as Serena is pregnant with another man’s baby and while I am generally not comfortable with this, I think the author manages to write this element quite well. Chadwick is still married when he starts a relationship with Serena. It is implied that his marriage is over and his estranged wife is causing problems with divorce proceedings. Serena is a sweet heroine who has simple tastes in life. I liked her overall because she had a good outlook towards life. Chadwick is a man overburdened by responsibilities and the excessive demands of his soon to be ex wife. Serena changes him in a good way and makes him question his priorities. There is not much drama going on as the blurb implies and overall the plot is very simple.Read More
This was a "giveaway" first read book. I have only read a few romance novels. Mainly my Mom's books when I was younger. I have a few friends who devour these books. I loved this book! If you want to give romance a try this would be a great place to start!
Chadwick Beaumont is running his family business Beaumont Brewery. He is powerful, handsome, rich and unhappy. Serena Chase is his executive assistant. She loves her job. It's her dream...security, good benefits, nice nest egg. They come from very different worlds, have very different expectations, but in the end want the same thing. Each other!
Chadwick Beaumont runs the company and finds himself in a hard situation of his company being sold and his divorce proceedings never ending. He also sees his secretary as something more as well. Serena Chase has worked years for this man and only wants the security that this job can give her in the situation she finds herself in now. When her boss needs a shoulder to lean on she finds that she wants him for more than the job has to offer. It was a sweet love story and I enjoyed it very much. Chadwick needed to find himself as well and Serena helped him there. SMA is a new author for me and I've been very pleased with her stories. Very easy to read and a good ending.
I've read this series completely out of order, so after reading books 2 and 3, I'm finally getting around to book 1. I liked this. I thought the author did a good job of setting up her series (and introducing the series-bait siblings without being heavy-handed about it!). I also thought the romantic couple had good emotional baggage that played off well of each other.
Did feel that there was a bit too much conflict (at times) given the Desire word count and was very pleased to find that the Ex-Wife character was actually sympathetic....until she opened her mouth and went back to being vile. Oh well. Can't win 'em all! A solid read. Enjoyable.
Sarah Anderson's latest has earned a spot on my "keeper" shelf. From the moment Serena and Chadwick stepped out onto the pages of "Not The Boss's Baby", I was captivated. The interplay between these two characters is simply fabulous. My bet is you'll be vested in this pair, too, and rooting for them to find the happiness they deserve together. I love how, when life hands Serena enough lemons to fill the Grand Canyon, she simply ploughs forward and makes lemonade with style. Anderson proves you can't keep a good woman down! And what a lucky man Chadwick is to have her in his corner.
Book Summary Published by - Harlequin Release date - 2nd September 2014 Pages - 186 My Rating - 3 Stars
Review This book had a solid storyline and a few good twists and turns. It was an enjoyable short read that I didn't have to think much about, but there were a few things that irked me, but I managed to get over them and enjoy the book as a whole rather than focusing on them. The characters are relatable and real and the overall story is sweet.
Chadwick Beaumont has spent his life running the family business and trying to live up to his father's expectations. He's tired of doing whatever everyone else wants. It's his turn now, and what he wants is his Secretary Serena but she's having another man's child. I found this book to be very well written, entertaining and I'm looking forward to future adventures with the Beaumont family. I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads
This is the first and only romance novel to get 5 stars from me thus far. It really was fantastic. The characters were wonderful and realistic. The situation wasn't contrived and there were no out of place turn of events. The imagery and writing was rich. I really enjoyed this book. If I really had to say something negative it would be that I really didn't like the cover of the book and it kept me from reading it for far too long.
This was a good book to read is good how the author play the story out for it the secretary and the boss man to have a good relationship in the and end I would recommend this book to anyone.
