They Lived to Tell the Tale is a colorful collection of adventure stories from some of the bravest and most daring people in the world, including Sir Edmund Hillary, Robert Ballard, and Buzz Aldrin. Richard Wiese gathers their firsthand accounts, ranging from the remarkable to the captivating to the absurd, which are sure to become a memorable part of exploration lore for generations to come.
The book contains some fascinating stories by true adventurers, but because they are written by many different people, the story quality varies quite a bit. Some of the stories are well-written and engaging, others not as much. Disclosure: I read this book because it was a gift from one of the contributors (Kristin Larson), and her story was one of the best.
An ok read. There are better books about explorers, though perhaps not written by better explorers. A lot of casual boasting and wealth dropping in this one by very accomplished rich people.
