Read this immediately after the first book in the series. Good action sequences, good characterization but overall not quite as impressed with this one, but it is definitely personal opinion. Didn't care for the very cliche trick of the main character losing his wife, bringing him available for a new job and the government developed/monster program was more graphically bloody and required a bit more suspension of belief than I was capable of at times. Entertaining, not quite up to the standard of the first book but would definitely read a third book if/when the series continues.

I really enjoyed this book. A good mystery.
This is book 2 in a series, but I didn’t feel like there were gaps in the story. If anything, I’d now like to go back and read the first one and the next one.
There is a group of men in the government who have been operating for years, genetically engineering creatures to hunt down terrorists, presumably. Except that they’ll hunt whomever they’re told to … even children. In a twist, their venom is also laden with a deadly virus, also genetically engineered. Aztec is the code name for the man in charge of the operation. He’s fearsome, and merciless. He wants to blackmail the US government, so that the US will emerge stronger from the rubble – cast in his vision. Standing in his way is a group of 3 former operatives in Afghanistan who are brought together due to a murder, and one of whom unknowingly holds the cure. Will they figure it out in time? Will they be able to stop him?
I liked the plot development, and details about military and police operations. It was definitely a page turner.

Brilliant action thriller.

I do dislike using the tired cliché, page-turner, but this book was definitely exactly that. A definite edge-of-the-seat thriller.

Ex-special forces friends regroup to battle an enemy more bizarre and dangerous than any they have fought before.

An alarming conspiracy, an abundance of action and intrigue, and characters with depth, all contributed to an adrenaline filled adventure well worth reading.
