Honestly I had totally forgotten about this story until Jacob was introduced in Breaking The Rules and even then I only remembered that he had his own story. While Brody was out doing his thing, Jacob stayed home and took care of their sisters. Jacob actually raised them and it wasn't easy. It was very hard work to make ends meet and making sure there was food on the table. With his focus constantly on his sisters, he didn't have much time for anything else.

Now that they've all moved, there is a lot less to worry about and Jacob starts realizing he's feeling lonely. He's even a bit jealous of his brother, because Brody was able to find himself a woman to love and Jacob wants that as well. Living in a small town does kind of limit his options, but when Elizabeth hires a nanny, things start looking a lot brighter.

Alice has a bad feeling about this latest job. She's good at what she does, but robbing a sheriff is something different and very risky. What she definitely didn't plan on was falling for one of her marks. Jacob is everything she has ever dreamed of wanting in a man, but when he finds out she's been lying about her identity things might not go over so well.

Everything between the two main characters moves kind of fast, but I'm thinking that back in the day you didn't waste much time as you never know what was going to happen, so I'll let that slide. Jacob is not my favourite character in the series. He sees things his way and never leaves any room for another opinion. So he's extremely stubborn and once you screw up, forgiveness isn't much of an option.

Alice is a result of her upbringing, though I won't go into that as it is much more fun to discover that yourself. There are not a lot of options for a young woman to make money and stealing from the rich is a bit Robin Hood like. Doing this for so long though has taken a toll on her and she wants out, but of course it's not that easy. I did like her character. She's not a bad person, never really harms and she deserves the life she really wants.

Overall a fun story, with plenty of drama and certainly some action. I really like this family and it's nice to see some of the other characters return. There were some new characters we got to know as well and they'll be getting their own story.

This is the second story in the ‘Breaking’ series by Nicole Sturgill. Jacob has spent most of his life raising his much younger twin sisters. He is lonely and longs for a wife…and a life…of his own. When Alice is hired by Jacob’s sister-in-law to help her care for her new babies, Jacob thinks his prayers have been answered. The only problem is that Alice isn’t her real name and Jacob is determined to find out what Alice’s real name is and also what her real story is.
Jacob and Alice’s characters are both extremely well written, as are all of the rest of the characters. The storyline draws you in and I, for one, could NOT put this book down. The descriptions and the character development make you feel like you are truly being transported inside this novel. The pace of the story is perfect; I never got bored…unfortunately…because I ended up staying up half the night to finish it!
This is the second book in an amazing series. I think you could probably read this as a standalone story, but you would be missing out on a few details to the background story, and you would definitely be missing out on an amazing first book ‘Breaking the Rules’.
This wonderful romance has an HEA ending. No cliffhangers, no loose ends, just a warm-your-heart-and-leave-you-smiling, ending.
