I slept with my enemy and now I’m pregnant with his baby. What the heck did I do?

Luke Bennett is many things—a talented tight end, one of football’s biggest playboys, and a god beneath the sheets.

He’s also the person I trusted the most, until he broke my heart. Twice. A time in my life I'll never get over.

The worst part is I let him into my bed. I succumbed to his charms, and the moment it was over, we were enemies again.

And now, when I’ve finally got my big break directing a new football series, he’s the star of the show.

They say that when it rains it pours, and if that’s true then consider me drenched in the middle of San Francisco’s football stadium.

I want to run but wherever I turn, Luke’s there, trying to do the right thing.

And I don’t know if I’m ready to open my heart again, there’s more than just me to think about now.

Some storms may be beautiful, but others leave a wake of destruction, and it’s impossible to decide which category we fall in.

But if I know Luke, he’s not giving up until we find out.

Beautiful Storm is a dual POV angsty sports romance full of banter, love and steam. This accidental pregnancy, forced proximity romance contains adult language and themes with storylines that may be triggering. A list of potential triggers are available on my website,

I will be so honest: despite the cover, the summary pulled me in, but this book was not it for me. And I skimmed through the last 60% because I thought maybe it would pick up, but the MMC continued to be rude and the FMC forgave him too quickly.

▹My ⭐ Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5)
▹Format: 📱 eReader
Thank you to Hambright PR and the author for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This book is now available.
─────────────────────────

○★○ What to Expect from This Book: ○★○

FMC: Amelia J. Rosenberg (aka “Ace” or “Joy”). 30-something TV director. Recently divorced from her high-school boyfriend. Sassy.
MMC: Luke Bennett. 30-something tight end for the San Francisco Storm football team. Playboy. Tough to warm up to, but he’ll protect what’s his.
Location: San Francisco, CA
POV: Dual first-person
Spice: Several open-door explicitly spicy scenes
Tropes: childhood friends to enemies to lovers, sports romance (football), documentary filming situation, accidental pregnancy, hate to love, forced proximity, alpha male, marriage of convenience, angst, one night stand
Content warning: Trapped in a house fire, insurance woes, divorce, rude MMC, PTSD, bullying by MMC to FMC, humiliation
Representation: nothing noteworthy

─────────────────────────

🎯 My Thoughts:

I love an accidental pregnancy. I even like hate to love stories. But I couldn’t get past both of these characters. It felt like they were rage-baiting each other and that turned them on. Or maybe more so on his side, and she liked being emotionally abused.

I’ve seen a few reviews say he gets nice by the end. And fair. I suppose if you find someone who is unreasonably a-hole-y to an FMC until she relents and then he’s nice to her “character growth” then...go off. But I digress, because I know that this was someone’s creation and to each their own. This was just not “my own”.

I don’t even care that the MMC was legit MAD at the FMC for the condom breaking and then the thing that happened when they were teens. And sure, he was a dick to her during her pregnancy because he was “only in it for the baby” (which is an honest reason to disengage and I don’t fault him for only wanting to be a father once he came to terms with it), but in this book, his poor treatment of her and her forgiveness of it (or maybe turning a blind eye) was used as foreplay and I don’t like romanticizing that type of behavior.

But in the words of the great poet Tamara Judge “that’s my opinion!” and you are free to like whatever tropes, microtropes, genres, etc. that you like. I am truly happy for this author that there is an audience for it.

I do, however, applaud the FMC for sticking with keeping a diary since she was little, because that shows commitment and determination. I frequently forgot that I even owned a diary when I was younger, so my entries were like….every 5 years until I turned 18 and purged that shit. So, good on her!

Would I Recommend?: If you like a bully romance, you probably will like this one. If you don’t, then I would skip.

stupid as hell. their feud made NO sense and then he almost burned her alive but oh i GUESS THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY????? no, just no. no chemistry and just trauma for trauma-sake. also, that does not sound like a documseries that i would want to watch.. all those players sound like real boring losers.

ALSO, that is the ugliest and cringiest book cover i have ever seen in my LIFE.

the writing reminded me of wattpad authors. can’t finish the book even after skimming through a lot.
the main guy is so insufferable i roll my eyes every time he’s mentioned and it’s the entire thing.

main girl is so pathetic! she’s a doormat with no backbone. she let her ex bestfriend treat her like sht for years, she lets him bully her with his friends, years later she sleeps with him and because she’s prego, he had the audacity to ask if she’s some gold digger than throws money at her and gets annoyed she doesn’t trust him when all he’s done since they were kids was bully tf out of her. he gets annoyed with every interaction, sexualize her every time, still talks about sleeping around and finding other women etc.

he blames her for something that could have ruined his career in like middle school so what career? anyways he purposely plans to set her up in a game where she’s locked to teach her a lesson but backfires because he got arrested for his own actions. he set the fire and it caused the fire alarms to go off and then after getting the door open he leaves her there and STILL years later Stillllll has the audacity to blame her for everything.

the guy was the worst person ever. he sounds and is a fucking douche with no personality but being a bully with a victim complex, perhaps narcissistic personality ?

What a fantastic read!
This book was fast-paced, full of endearing
characters whose colorful history made for such a compelling story.

After their childhood friendship goes south, for a multitude of reasons, Amelia and Luke find their way back to each other in a night of kismet and chemistry.

When their careers and personal lives suddenly merge,
They’re forced to confront past wrongs, and unresolved feelings.

I loved the (eventual )emotional maturity between the two main characters, and their chemistry was off the charts. Luke was not only protective of Amelia’s physical self, but his character extended to her emotional and mental health as well, and that was so very attractive to me.
Amelia was a force and I loved her sassy attitude and refusal to accept anything less than what she deserved after failed long-term relationship/marriage.

The friendships in this book were what really solidified my love for this story. I love the “found family” aspect of any good read, and I just fell in love with the characters and how they supported one another and were there for one another, in all aspects of their fame/ personal lives.

I look forward to reading more books in this series!

Unsafe and very cringe.

It’s humiliation and cruelty p*rn from an author who hates her FMC and women in general.

Weirdo behavior to romanticize this.

This book is the ultimate „touchdown“
If you love sports romance and enemies to lovers you will love Katherine’s new book
„Beautiful Storm“.

“Amelia. Amelia. You are so goddamn beautiful it hurts.” I chuckle. “If only you weren’t always such a pain in my ass.”

The chemistry between Luke and Amelia is electric, making their tumultuous relationship both infuriating and irresistible.
As the two navigate their past and confront their feelings amidst the pressures of fame and work complications, I found myself rooting for them every step of the way.
The banter is sharp, the tension palpable, and the steam is undeniable. Katherine balances the angst with moments of humor and tenderness, making the story feel both real and relatable. “Beautiful Storm” is not just a romance; it’s a beautiful exploration of forgiveness and the power of love to heal even the deepest wounds.

This book is a must-read for anyone who loves an emotional sports romance with heart and soul. Prepare for a whirlwind of emotions that will leave you breathless and craving more!

“I never thought the alpha thing would work for me,” Amelia says, almost incredulously, before her gaze lifts to mine. “But God that was hot.” She licks her lips as I chuckle. “Thank you. I never thought I’d win you over so easily.” Her face drops as she forcefully shoves me away. “Fuck you.” “And she’s back….

This book can be read as a standalone but for the experience I would read the heartstring series as well 🥰

A new series brings us fresh faces, but it’s Luke’s love story that truly captivates the heart. As a star player for the San Francisco Storm, Luke is not just a champion on the field; he’s also a devoted big brother to Laniey, a familiar name from ASFOS. And then there’s Amelia, an aspiring director striving to carve her niche in the world of music . But here’s the twist: these two have spent years in a tangled web of animosity, once best friends turned fierce enemies.

After a decade and a half apart since high school, their paths collide once again, and the tension is palpable. Katherine takes us on a breathtaking journey as Amelia finds herself immersed in the chaotic world of the football team, while Luke yearns to escape her presence. Just when it seems like nothing can bridge the chasm between them, a shocking revelation, a baby on the way forces them to confront their tangled pasts and the unexpected emotions that arise.
As we delve deeper, we witness a softer side of Luke and a guarded Amelia, and my heart aches for both of them. Their struggles unfold amid overwhelming stress and secrets that threaten to shatter their carefully built lives. This is a story of “it’s always been you,” a beautiful exploration of love rekindled against all odds. "Beautiful Storm" stirs a tempest of emotions within, leaving you breathless. Luke, my heart is yours forever.
We’re reunited with old friends and welcomed into a tight-knit family of new ones. I can't wait to dive deeper into their lives and fall in love with each character. This is just the beginning of a remarkable series that promises to tug at your heartstrings and linger long after the last page is turned.

ARC review

God, I loved this book so much. I couldn't stop reading it. It was so good and everything I needed.
Amelia and Luke had been childhood friends until things happened and they started hating each other. Many years later, they meet again, have a one night stand and she gets pregnant.
I loved seeing them evolved from there. They each grew and matured with the help of the other. The character growth was so nicely done.
Luke was the a*shole playboy but the moment Amelia told him she was pregnant, he was all in. He wanted her and nothing would stop him from havinf her.
Amelia had been let down by people she loved her whole life, Luke included. But the new Luke was diferent. It took some time but he showed her at every turn that he was there for her and he loved her. Nothing would take him from her, unless she wanted. He just wanted her happy.
I loved how they communicated with each other and trusted the other. After all those years, they finally were together again, but not as friends, as lovers and partners, equals in every way

I honestly have no clue why so many rated this low because this book sucked me all the way in !

If you DNF a book you should not be reviewing it!

Now , onto the book. This follows Amelia who has separated from her husband who shes been with since she was 17 . She decides after months of being separated to dip her toes into getting into bed with someone else..... only she didnt think itd be her enemy and once best friend. While the sex was mind blowing she promises to never touch him again or see him.

but now shes about to direct a docuseries about a football team but not just any football team....its the team hes on ! and she has a secret she doesnt know he will be able to handle.

This has a ton of drama in it that I swear I felt like I was watching a episode of Maury lmao

I don’t know why everyone is bitching about this book being bad but it wasn’t. If you don’t like the pregnancy trope then don’t fucking read it. I even saw someone that said “He doesn’t care about the FMC. He only cares about the baby and he tells her that”. Well no shit Sherlock how can he be in love with her overnight? The only thing was that it dragged on so much it was like 400 something pages, it should’ve been 200 to 300 max.

I really liked this one and for me this was truly an enemies to lovers romance, with characters that have a very detailed history. We learn various levels of history and stages of who they were to each other in their lives. As kids they were friends. Luke as a kid made Amelia laugh and was always going to protect her. The first chapter or prologue moved very fast through the history of how they grew apart. You learn they were friends and a hint of to how they were with each other. But then they weren’t friends and you get to see their past go through quickly. So when the books starts to the present and Amelia is attempting to move on from her pending divorce you understand how Luke was absolutely the last person she wanted a one night stand with. But turns out her best friend was right, sometimes the best person is the last one you think you want. Always crave good h@te smex 😉.

What always makes a great enemies to lovers for me, especially when the two share a long history, is that you still get a hint that they care about each other. This was done very well especially with Luke. Their issues as kids and even teens had everything to do with some miscommunication they had with each other. And even though in the start it’s a flash of some of them. The key moments of their past were highlighted well and were set up beautifully for when things start to reveal themselves. Turns out there were a lot of things these two didn’t know about each other. This is also a surprise pregnancy and it was everything I love in one. Seeing the mmc truly start to fall not just for the love interest but for the baby as well. Luke for all his faults was amazing and sweet and protective. His reaction to becoming a dad made me giggle and I felt was super realistic with his internal little freak out 😆. His little nickname for his future baby was adorable and his reasoning for it makes you melt.

Amelia was a strong character for me. She had dreams but was always put In the back. She was starting to make herself a priority when in walks Luke. But with Luke he always treats her like an equal even when he felt he h@ted her.

Oh wow I don't know where to start, after A Sky Full of Stars I didn't know I needed Luke, but this man...wow 🤯 I NEED him! For me he is the best of Jay-Man's combined.

Luke Bennet is a star football player, who is know as the playboy. He doesn't date, and he doesn't do second times.

Amelia Rosenberg is a Director recently single after her not yet finalized divorce of her musician ex-Husband. She directed some of his Music Videos but now she got a new job as a director for a reality documentary.

Amelia and Luke have been best friends during junior high and some traumatic events turned them to ignore each other and compete. Having lost each other over the time, they meet again in a new bar in San Francisco, the hat turns to tension and both give into ONE night only of fun.

Well...what could have been a easy one night stand turns to a work issue and also to a pregnancy 🥳 surprise 🤣.

While I haven't been the biggest pregnancy trope fan, Katherine Jay turned me 🫶. I love a protective man, who does everything for his woman and unborn child. Enter Luke, confronted with the situation he is all in. The former playboy wants to help and be there, unfortunately Amelia is more the I can do it myself type of woman.

Seeing these two fall in love, talking like real adults and figuring out stuff from their past was so beautiful.

Thank you so much Katherine for gifting me with an ARC for an honest review, I would've read this book nonetheless. I can't wait for this new series and the next Football players to come 😍

Luke Freaking Bennett!! Katherine Jay does it again; Beautiful Storm was fabulous! It was heartfelt, emotional, funny & steamy!

The shared history and backstory helped build the tension between Luke & Amelia beautifully. You could feel every shred of animosity they felt for each other at the beginning, and the way they broke down one another’s carefully constructed walls was perfect!

As always with Katherine’s MMCs, Luke was the most delicious combination of cocky alpha, with a heart of gold. The side relationships and storyline development was excellent, and kept me intrigued with each new chapter.

The way you get to know the side characters, and their multifaceted relationships with the MCs, is so great and really just makes me want more of all of them. In keeping with that, I loved getting more of Thomas & Lainey from ASFOS!

I knew when we were introduced to Luke in The Heartstrings series that he would be special, and boy did he deliver on that. He was everything I wanted him to be and more, and Amelia really was the most perfect partner for him.

Seeing the two of them make their way back to each other, and begin to love & trust again through the trials and tribulations they faced, was amazing. As I always find with Katherine’s writing, I felt like I was right in the story and was watching it all play out in front of me.

I loved it all, and I can’t wait for more!!

Katherine is one of the few authors that i know once i open the book i will quickly become part of the story and that is no different with Beautiful Storm. First the way it was written was great who doesn't love a dual POV. It was really hard not to fly through this book as i wanted to savor the moments and really take my time to read it. It was a work of art. Luke is the reformed playboy who has secretly loved his childhood best friend. Amelia reserves some hatred towards him for the past but after having a one-night stand that led to an accidental pregnancy they are forced back in each other's life. The banter is top tier and Luke's cockiness will have you kicking your feet in the air laughing. The book takes us through a rollercoaster of emotions but in the end it's amazing to see how much they both grow and become the best version of themselves. I cannot wait to continue this series and read more of the rest of the team.

I absolutely adore this book. I couldn't put it down. Which I absolutely love when I can just get lost in a book 🥰

Childhood friends turned enemies. Luke and Amelia cross paths again and have a steamy night together but then quickly remember why they went their separate ways all those years ago.

These two end up having to work closely together as Amelia directs a show based around The San Francisco Storms players. Both Luke and Amelia learning to trust one another again and navigating how to make life work together since Amelia fell pregnant.

This was truly just a beautiful story and I thoroughly enjoyed it 🤍 the banter they had together 👌🏼

Definitely recommend if you love -

This is a new to me author and I can’t wait to read more from her!

Amelia and Luke were childhood friends until grown up things got in the way. Fast forward 10 years and the deep seated dislike they have for one another is strong, they decided to 1 night of fun and well bring on the consequences.

Amelia and Luke absolutely were made for one another and once they finally stopped letting the past ruin the future they realized this and boy did I eat up every single page with gusto!

Actual perfection! These two were soulmates and perfect for eachother. Despite their friendship break in the middle (who doesn't love a bit of miscommunication) they weren't to be "that" person.
Amelia was brave, strong and sassy, and I loved her so much, so likable and relatable.
Now for Luke, he was the playboy but as life goes on it's not plain sailing- but the love, care and protection he showed his loved ones was beautiful!
Congratulations on another great book Katherine

3.5⭐Beautiful Storm is the first book in the San Francisco End Game series by Katherine Jay. It's a sports romance with a dual POV, ex best friends turned enemies into lovers, a surprise pregnancy which leads to a marriage of convenience. Angsty, Football, Forced Proximity, Great Characters, Long Length Book with a HEA.

Luke Bennett and Amelia Rosenberg were once best friends then became enemies after a prank turned life threatening.

Amelia is separated from her musician husband and when Luke protects her one night at a new bar, the insulting barbs turns into clothes being torn off and a broken condom.

Luke is a playboy football player who just wants to make it to the Superbowl. He doesn't date nor does he come back for seconds after hooking up. But he is cocky and a showboat so, when Amelia shows up as a the director for a documentary on his team, he falls into the star spotlight.

Amelia wants this chance to prove herself even though it puts her in close proximity to Luke, who she would rather ignore, but when a unexpected pregnancy stops her in her tracks, she has no choice but to co-parent with the a man whose her last choice.

Luke comes up with the idea to get married to provide her and the baby with great insurance. They plan to each live in their own homes and to co-parent. But she needs a divorce and he has a secret that could change everything.

Beautiful Storm is a captivating read filled with second chances, accidental pregnancy, enemies to lovers, sports romance, and so much more.

The story follows Amelia, who ends up pregnant after a one-night stand with her ex–best friend turned enemy.

Amelia’s character is written so well. Her relationships with her father, mother, and ex-husband — and how those experiences shape the way she connects with others — add so much depth to the story.

Luke has disliked Amelia since their teenage years (even though it’s clear there are deeper feelings underneath). Watching him step up and care for Amelia, even before knowing she’s pregnant with his child, was really beautiful to read.

This is a 4-star read, and I highly recommend it!

Thank you to the author and Hambright PR for the ARC.

I really enjoyed Amelia and Luke’s story! The chemistry between them was electric, and the childhood friends to enemies to lovers dynamic kept me hooked. Their shared history added depth to the tension, making every interaction feel charged and meaningful. Amelia’s struggle to balance her past with Luke against their complicated present, especially now that he’s trying to have an actual relationship, felt so real and relatable. It has just the right mix of romance, drama, and humor, and I found myself rooting for them to find their way back to each other. This was a captivating and heartfelt romance and it's a must read!

I love some angst with my romance and this book served all sorts of angst and emotions on a silver platter. I love a childhood best friend romance, but Katherine Jay really piled on the angst by making them go through so much, going from friends to enemies to lovers. Amelia and Luke have a very rocky past and I enjoyed all the tension as they sorted through their problems. The plot was great, accidental pregnancy isn’t my favourite trope but I love the forced proximity and how they are forced to confront each other again. One thing I loved about this book was that there was no miscommunication, they were both (mostly) responsible adults and talked things out with each other. But I also don’t like the way they just gloss over lots of things, especially about their childhood traumas. Bringing me to my point about plot twists, yes some were great but they did feel a little rushed at the end, especially after a much slower bit in the middle. As for characters, I loved both Amelia and Luke’s growth and how they came together for little “Jelly Bean”. This book was adorable but also very angsty in the best way, there are some pacing issues but otherwise it’s a 4/5 from me.

A new angsty, sports romance series by my girl, Katherine Jay?! SAY👏🏻LESS👏🏻

I love Luke. He comes across as such a jerk in the beginning—okay, he is a cocky jerk—but underneath he’s actually a good guy who loves his family and friends who has been hiding the hurt of losing his best friend for years. And when he and Amelia are forced to work together after a decade of hating each other, sparks fly, secrets are revealed, and nothing will ever be the same for either of them again. The journey of Luke stepping up and being the man he was always meant to be just melted my heart.

I have say, Amelia was one of my least favourite of Katherine’s main female characters. But lovable new characters and familiar faces from her Heartstrings series made up for it!

And EASTON…if he doesn’t get his very own book, I will riot. Respectively♥️

Thank you for the ARC!

This was a first Katherine Jay read for me, and hi Katherine, hi, I'm a fan! So nice to meet you! And first impressions? Giiiiiiiirl!!! What a first impression this was. The writing is A+, the characters and setting are top notch too! The angst, you ask? Ohhh-h0-ho-ho. Santa better watch out because I can keep ho-ho-hoing in response to that question, because holy Angstville, Batman. Phew. And I don't even care that I'm mixing metaphors, or mythical men as it may be, because the angst is on fire here. This was an angst-doozy! But it was so flipping delicious. We've got enemies to lovers causing that angst too? OooOo giiiirl, the best kind! Throw in an "oops!" pregnancy, a co-working situation and a professional athlete? Mmm hmmm. I mean, it's like the trope trifecta!

So if you're into E2L, surprise pregnancy, pro sports, angst, hot and super smexy smex with phenomenal writing - this one's for you! Needless to say, I've added Katherine's entire back catalogue to my ever-growing TBR but I cannot wait to dive into it. Highly recommend!!

Fantastic read. I loved these characters and everything they brought to the story, making for a wonderful book.
All the emotion with this one.

And Luke, well Luke has my heart!!

Full Review to come
UPDATE:

What a way to start this series. Luke and Amelia are everything. I loved this story so much, it packed an emotional punch while making my heart feel so full. Their journey was absolutely beautiful; full of ups and downs, years of hurt and anger and heartbreak. But their passion is intense and unmatched when they are thrust back into eachother lives for just one night, or so they thought.

When I say these two have quite the entangled past, I mean it! It was so wonderful seeing flashbacks from their time as kids, how their friendship changed over the years and turned into the dislike they share. I loved discovering their individual sides of the story. Watching how their relationship developed throughout the book was wonderful.
These two had great communication, which made my heart happy-while mixing in all the emotion and angst of the story.

The banter between Amelia and Luke is next level, they both had me laughing many times. The level of familiarity, even when they ‘hated’ one another, was amazing. They could push buttons, flirt, laugh, call each other out on things but overall they brought out the best in one another all while working together to make focus on the priority, and then have that priority shift and expand.

Luke is next level book boyfriend material! I am here for the cockiness, the swoon and the hotness! This man is perfection. The way he sees and understands her, even after all their time apart melted my heart. He is protective and obsessed in the BEST way.
Amelia is fantastic, such a relatable character and so real with everything she is going though, her feelings and struggles. I loved watching her find herself, discover new things and live out her dreams. They just get one another and seeing them fall back into the comfort they shared as kids was so great.

Their journey to be together is both heartbreaking and sweet. They share such a deep connection, but there is also so many mixed feelings from their past, it’s a tricky situation to navigate. The attraction, chemistry and feelings between them are very evident, so I was easily sucked into their story. I wanted nothing more than to see them figure everything out and be by each other’s side! These two truly are end game, have been since kids-they just needed to figure a few things out along the way!

While this is a brand new series and one I can’t wait to return to after the introduction of the San Francisco Storm team-we also got to revisit some previous favourite characters. I highly recommend this book and the previous Heartstrings series!
