B.L. Marsh

B. L. Marsh has been writing and telling stories her entire life. She is a music teacher and guest lecturer. Her academic research is focused on the Dead Sea Scrolls, chant transmission in the Medieval and Renaissance, and Gnostic and Kabbalah history. Her passion for spirituality and developing her relationship with God are parts of her Rule of Life. In her reading of the Bible and other extra-biblical texts however, she daydreams about the characters, about how life was back then, and how cool it would have been to walk in the Garden with God. Her stories help create alternate story lines for the “holes of history.”

When she is not writing or teaching, she spends her days hanging out with five of the coolest boys on the planet and at night can be found doing completely ridiculous things like reading and watching the same 3 movies on TV or inventing new histories of age old characters.

BL Marsh's debut novel is unlike anything out on the market right now. It's a thought provoking tale that will pull you into a world that keeps you wanting for more. The underlying love story of Lilith and Sam is poetic and romantic. This is a genre that I am not easily sucked into but I could not put the book down and it left me wanting for more. The book is intelligent in its use of romance, fantasy, mythical and religious tales all interwoven for a magical ride.

It took me a really long time to get into this book. There are just SO MANY characters and SO MUCH story history to figure out. The book begins with a pages long character list, including connections. My mind kind of reeled. Then there’s religion, and mythology, and paranormal creatures… and you just wonder how that will all work. Then there’s current time… and the time before Lilith can remember… and the time before that. Then I lost track of how many locations or realms there are. AND for the first 20% of the book Lilith is sitting at a Starbucks. (I was on my Kindle. I kept thinking “Really? We’re past 20% and she’s still at Starbucks??? Does she ever leave? Is the whole book in her head and at Starbucks?). This book was just… a lot.

That all said… after I made it through the very long introduction (and went and got and myself a grande iced caramel macchiato) I finally found the book described in the blurb. It still took some brain power to keep track of the characters. I still found myself trying to pull bits of religion and bible stories from my brain. But, I was pulled into the story. I wanted to know Lilith. I wanted to know Sam. I wanted to shake people and get their parts of the story out of them. I couldn’t turn pages fast enough. I guess this is what happens when so many of my favorite things get merged into one novel.

And then… just when I really started to love The Lilith Scrolls… it ended. The author builds and builds and builds… and then left me with this cliff hanger. A horribly fabulous and fabulously horrible cliff hanger. I love and hate cliff hangers.

Oh… and Emerson and Emma. What is that? Can they have their own book? And Raziel. I want more of him. And Declan. And Daniel. And, and, and…. B.L. Marsh? I hope you write fast.

This book has an elaborate tale to tell. The magical world created was interesting. What brought it down for me was the back and forth of the story. To the past, then present, then past. At some points, I felt confused, others, annoyed. How long had Lilith been around? It took me a while to realize what the time frame meant. There were some explanations that got repeated too much. At points, the back story got to be long winded.

But in all, this is a wonderful fantasy romance. If you follow along it will be worth it. Dragons, Vamps, Magic, Fae and more. This book has it all. The way the author describes things, you feel as if you're seeing, feeling the items. The tale of long lost love and reuniting is layed out in a way that if you push through the long winded back story and history, is beautiful.

I had to reread this story because I forgot what had happened when I took a break from reading and had to do some school stuff.

The story is wonderful and new. I never thought much about stories similar to this but after ereading this story, it got me hooked!

The mysteries surrounding Lilith's life is what kept me going and I know readers have felt this. Fromt he start we get to join Lilith and her discovery of the life she has and when little bits and pieces are slowly revealing themselves, we together with Lilith felt the conflicting emotions.

Though at first I was confused at the story line because I was used to the old tales being told when we were little about Noah's Ark and the angels and the other magical/mythical creatures surrounding the story.

I thought this book is a stand alone so I was hoping for an ending worth while but FEAR NOT because just recently there is and will be a 2nd book to the story!

So I cannot wait for the 2nd book to come out and cannot wait to see more of Lilith and Samael's relationship go through the difficulties and victories ahead of them. :)

4.5 Stars - B.L. Marsh has created a distinctive and magical world with her debut novel, The Lilith Scroll. Sam and Lilith’s story is elegant and charming. The romantic element of their story was heart-warming and endeared them to me immediately. I quickly found myself immersed in this fantasy world and enchanted by the cast of complicated and fascinating characters. B.L. has carefully crafted a world that is intelligent, complex and bathed in historical and religious significance. The elaborate planning that went into every detail of this story blew me away. The intricately constructed moments of this journey ensure that this story is vibrant and captivating.

The Lilith Scroll challenged me to figure out where Sam and Lilith were headed and how the secondary characters came into play. The numerous entities of this magical universe are expertly woven together to create a multi-dimensional world that kept me enthralled. Since this book is designed as part of a series, there is still a lot of room for Sam and Lilith to grow as individuals and develop their relationship. There are plenty of remaining questions that need to be answered, but that will come with the natural progression of this story. B.L. Marsh’s did a wonderful job with her debut novel and I am eager to further discover the secrets of The Lilith Scroll throughout the rest of the series.

The Lilith Scroll is, in simplest terms, a love story. It’s the story of Lilith and Samael, the miracle of their creation, how they were torn apart from one another, and then - after 6,000 years - are finally reunited.

But, it’s also a story of good versus evil. How a being who is goodness incarnate had his name stolen and then desecrated by his own brother. Evil such as this has consequences that ripple throughout all of creation.

I had the amazing experience of working on this book as an editor. While my opinion may be biased, I do believe The Lilith Scroll is a book any reader of fantasy, romance, mystery, or suspense will find well worth their time. With elements reminiscent of JRR Tolkein and Dan Brown you're in for an amazing experience when you pick up The Lilith Scroll.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I admit I was skeptical about the premise of the story but I soon found myself unable to put down my kindle. The only issue I had with the story was there was too much time devoted to Lilith’s inner dialogue.

Other than that issue, the story flowed just fine. I really like how the secondary characters come into play and you see how everything connects to the story. I am looking forward to reading the next installment of the story.

I will definitely recommend this story to others. I give it 4/5 Platypires.

This has got to be one of the best love stories I have ever read. This story talks about the creation of these two powerful immortals. They now nothing about who they are they are all they know is that they are searching for each other. This book shows how powerful love and heartbreak is. The author has a way of bringing everything to life. I can not wait to get my hands on more of her works.

The Lillith Scroll - this is a 5 star for me - **I was given this book to review as part of a Promotional Book tour on my Blog, and this is my honest review**

The Synopsis opens with :
What if you discovered there was “time” before time began? What if everything you thought was true, was not? What if there was a beginning before “In the beginning”; another story unfolding within our time, steeped in loss, love, betrayal, and secrets. That sounds interesting, I thought...

It also continues on with:
On her twenty-third celebrated birthday, Lilith arrived in Scotland following clues she had secretly collected about her past. Everything led her to the Rosslyn Chapel and to an illustrious but mysterious professor, Dr. Asher Daniel. Well I love books that are based around legend and myth of our past. I love Dan Brown and Kate Mosse so by this point I was clicking "YES I WANT TO REVIEW' So I shuffled my "To be Reviewed list" and chose Review instead of Promo on the blog. A few late nights too but it was worth it!

The Synopsis continues...
Little did she know that going down this path would reignite one of the oldest wars of all time- The Fall. Sides would be chosen, lives would be lost, and the secret kept all this time by the Illuminati would be exposed. I was very intrigued as to how Ms Marsh would bring Lilith into the legend of 'The Fall'

Meet Sagan. A man without past and powers who rival Lilith’s. Will he be able to help her find out her past and discover his own in the process?
Mysterious Male to add to the mix

Reading this book you will Go back in time. Back to the garden. Experience the magic of the creation, the wonder of nature and the betrayal that destroyed it all. I was interested to see how the author would interpret the myth of Eden.

So what did I think, you are wondering, here are my thoughts and why it got 5 stars.

The world building really had me immersed into the story, by 25% I was ignoring anything else that was on my schedule for the day and trying to just stay in "Book World"

MY TOP TIP for this book is READ THE GLOSSARY & THE CAST OF CHARACTERS and WHAT IS FACT before beginning the story.
I did this, and even went back to it once or twice, knowing what certain words, characters were first made reading easier. And of course Kindle functions where you can highlight a word and it gives you the definition is really helpful!

Ms Marsh has studied the Dead Sea Scrolls, and other periods in history, and it is evident when you are reading this book. Ms Marsh takes the Creation Myth and adds her imagination to create a great magical tale that encompasses 6 thousand years of folklore and legend. This book has everything I love in a book, History, Legend, Myth and folklore.

There is a lot going on in this book, and the Author is laying down the base for the series, so this book concentrates on Lilith finally figuring out why she has no memory of her past and what the dreams/nightmares relate too.

The timeline of the story goes back and forth, but I found no problems with this, there are headings saying 'present day' or the characters will lead into the passage.

There are a lot of supporting characters, they all have a part to play in the mystery of Lilith's past, they all remember something about the tragedy that occurred and each character I am sure will have an important part to play in the story as it evolves.

This book is part one of a series, and although it ends with a "to be continued' I would not call it a cliff hanger, Ms Marsh has ended it with a HEA point and I was happy with that, but left with the knowledge that I will eagerly await Book 2.

I will definitely be putting Ms Marsh on my Authors to follow list, this being a debut novel, shows such promise, you can tell that there has been a lot of research and preparation, writing a book that combines so much myth and lore and that's what I loved the most about this book.

In simple terms the books about Soul mates/ true love, and the two trying to find each other after being ripped apart, but what sets it apart for me is all the back story, the mystery and the questions yet to be discovered.

Ms Marsh has a real talent at writing descriptive passages, especially the 'Scroll' passages that are written with such flair and poetic prose.

I will make time re read the story when I know the second book is due, I am sure on the second read I will find new clues and this is one of those books that I will re read a number of times.

Well done Ms Marsh, you have me hooked and I can't wait to find out more.

I really wanted to like The Lillith Scroll more than I did. The concept is fascinating. I love it when historic and factual information is combined with fantasy and romance, and the story of Lillith set in Scotland sounded like a true winner to me. I was thinking it might be something along the lines of A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.

However, this book didn't quite meet my expectations, mostly because not much happened in it. The story is incredibly heavy with back story--to the point I often felt as if I were reading a collection of legends or folklore rather than a novel. In the first third of the book, pretty much all that happens in the present day is that Lillith is sitting in a Starbucks in Scotland drinking coffee, drawing in her journal, and noticing the presence of other immortals. The rest of the page time is her starting to remember fragments of her past and those other immortals taking position around her and remembering what happened to Lillith in the past. There are also a few times where, for whatever reason, scenes are set in the past. I'm not sure why that's needed when there are already a good many characters telling us the history. Although the story may have felt more alive had this technique been used instead of putting so much of the back story into peoples' memories. The remaining two thirds of the book, unfortunately, isn't much lighter on the back story.

All this remembering from a lot of characters made it very difficult to keep track of the back story. In addition, it felt like different characters' accounts contradicted each other in small ways (although this could just be my faulty memory). I had a lot of trouble following the timeline in both the past and the present. For instance, at one point Lillith goes to sleep. The next chapter is a recounting of her dream. The chapter after that she wakes up and it's two weeks later. So did she dream for weeks one dream or was it over and over or what?

When I got to the cliffhanger end, I felt like I'd just spent hours reading something that could have been told in about one hour. I kept wishing that the story would have stayed more in Lillith's POV and that I could've just learned the back story as she remembers it.

Still, I do think the mythology and world building make this an interesting book to a point. I am willing to check out the next in the series to see if the action picks up a little more and the story line becomes easier to follow. The writing style itself is clean and approachable. There are moments the descriptions of heavenly and earthly locations are poetically beautiful. This series definitely has a lot of potential. I give it three cat kisses.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I wanted to like this book, the synopsis sounded amazing, but somewhere along the way I just ended up feeling very lost. Maybe it was the huge cast of characters that we never really get to connect with (and I was too lazy to go back to the beginning where there is a list of them and their connection to things to see why they were important) or the various different locations that Lilith is always being whisked away to, many times without allowing me to get my bearings before we were rushed off somewhere else.

I like the idea behind the story, but for me it felt like a 350 page book of secrets that shouldn't have been secrets in the first place (and those kinds of story lines really annoy me.) I never really understood why Lilith couldn't be told about her past or even why she was in such an extreme amount of pain, it just seemed over the top to me.

I never really felt a connection with any of the characters, so for me the book was just kind of meh, but it wasn't really a bad book either.

I think people that are really into the history of Christianity and other mythology would probably really enjoy this book.

Fascinating!
Let me begin by saying that this book is very complex and required total attention. This is not a light read by any means which is just what I had been looking for. With a large cast of characters and a very detailed story line I was fully engaged. The Lilith Scrolls is an in depth look at religion, myth and the question of soul mates.
Author B.L.Marsh weaves a tale that brings about more questions than answers and poses some very fundamental questions about love and faith. I love the style and flow of this book which changes subtly to fit each character and situation. The reader is constantly teased with bits and pieces of information leaving us to discover the truth along with the characters.
This is a book for those who love a good story, but be sure to take your time to really immerse yourself in this book and you will fall in love. I can't wait for more!

Have you ever read a book that was so good it left you reeling and kind of speechless? If not you should read this book to get that feeling. I would give this book a 10 star if Amazon would let me. This book was about Lilith from the bible and a prophesy that goes back six thousand years ago. Though it is about religion, don't let it scare you away from it as it is very different turn of events then the bible. I like this turn of events better. I would recommend this book to all my friends and i can not wait until the next book comes out!!

Lilith is no child, but she is. This is six thousand years of mystery surrounding a girl created outside of what we know as time. From a hidden tomb, she's released to earth, where her guardians (dragons!) watch over her as she becomes a woman, a scholar, and something more.
No spoilers here, but this is a must read for geeks of ancient history and the unknown.

Great idea for a book. But there was just so much going on. I had to read the book twice to completely understand it. Just when you start to really get into the characters there's a freaking cliff hanger ending. There's still so much of the story to tell.

A daring and imaginative foray into realms delving into an elaboration of Genesis scripture "Let Us Make...". One book that could have been many, set as a Song of Solomon love with interwoven plots of divine deception, seduction, betrayal, defense, and conquest. Read it slowly, or read it twice to appreciate the author's creative motifs.

You can find my review here: http://fascication.blogspot.com

You know that feeling when everything it's exactly where it's supposed to be until something happens and your whole life...your beliefs changes in an instant....
Well... that's the feeling you get while reading this story.
Lilith St.Claire is just a graduent student who tries to find answers about her past. So she goes to Rosslyn Chapel to work on her dissertation with Dr. Asher Daniel, a world-renowned expert in the field of Early World Religions.
What you don't know is the fact that she knows about Illuminati. Yes, they are real in story, because they are the keepers of the world's greatest secrets, more exactly about how our world and humanity started to find their place on Earth. And scratch everything you know about God, Adam or Eve, because all will be tested in this story and nothing is as it seems...
Everything stated with Abbaddon (no...I'm not going to reveal his identity or this secrets), and everything we know was just a lie told by the greatest liar of all times....
Lilith has to now the secrets about herself, secrets that are haunting her in her dreams...and she knows that ro find them she has to get at the bottom of history (that's way she chose to do her dissertation in Early History).
But that's the moment when everything changes ... when she meets Samael/Sagan, another student who has powers that rivals Lilith's and may or may not hold the key to Lilith's answers....
That's when the adventure really begins and we are told little by little every lie we were told, every secret that was kept since the begining of the world, and we are left wanting for more...
I'm not going to lie you...it isn't an easy story to accept, but it's one of the most beautiful that I had the pleasure to read...to find more about this exclusive and somewhat secret society called Illuminati, and I was even more enchanted to find more about the tribes and the Archangels...
And the love story between our heroine, Lilith and Samael was something out of this world...I fall in love with everything that they discovered, and even if it was somewhat confusing with the jump between the past and the present...I still wouldn't have it any other way...
The naration is more impersonal, but you'll still connect with our heroine and feel her emotions, her desire to know who she is this great, unknown battle between good and evil, where the roles teams aren't know and everything is a secret or a lie greater than you, greater than even life!
Another aspect of this story that made me fall in love with it was the fact that it explore every aspect human creation, as much as on biblical aspect, but also on the fantasy and mythological aspect. Sure, we have a love story to make the journey more sweet and emotional...but we also have a dark part to explore with secret that people have died for and it reminds in some measure about Da Vinci Code...and I loved it with all my heart....

Final Decision: There are people who would risk everything to have to keep the silence about secrets that shouldn't be know by normal mortals....but what do you do when an unknown war about said secrets is about to begin? And wich side would you chose?
