Brooke Valentine is working two crummy jobs to pay off her late grandfather's medical bills and back taxes on his house. A freak accident leads to the loss of both jobs and leaves Brooke at the mercy of her new neighbor, Travis Cooper. Brooke can't figure out why Travis is being so nice -- anyone can see he's way out of her league!
Travis Cooper sees Brooke as a little sister who needs someone to look out for her. When his friends ask what's going on between them, he assures them -- repeatedly -- that Brooke Valentine is definitely not his type. But if she's not his type, why can't he seem to stop kissing her?
Enter Brooke's new boss and friend, Jazz Valenzuela, with a scheme to make Travis jealous. But what will happen when Travis finds out it was all a fake?

Born and raised in Texas, Lisa is happily married and lives with her husband, two amazing children, Jingles Wigglebottom (the wonder dog), Cash (the Chiweenie), and Socks (the world's laziest cat). Since learning to put crayon to paper, all Lisa really ever wanted to do is write. After years of keeping her writing to herself, or sharing with family and friends, Lisa decided it was time to "put up or shut up".
In June of 2012, Lisa uploaded her first ebook, McKenna's Prayer (McKenna's Haven, Book 1); the story is one of love, friendship and above all, realizing that God's plan for us is always best. When that book was finished, Lisa felt compelled to continue the story and write the resolution to the story of one character. With each story, more characters came to life, and when the series was finished, there were five books!
Lisa is always working on something, and loves to hear from readers!
An unfortunate incident happened to Brooke the heroine and Travis at some point help her because of some guilt. The two became friends. As the friendship progressed, the two becomes oblivious to each other’s attraction. People around them knew that there is a possibility that they can be a couple but then both are fighting for it to happen, especially in Travis’ part where he blatantly told how she only see her as a sister and not his type. One day Brooke’s boss decided to take the matter into her own hand and have someone pretend and make Travis jealous. Travis learned about it and was hurt but eventually he realized how Brooke is indeed her type, her dream girl. I love how Travis win her heart back, it was genius and well thought off. Even though this book doesn’t have smut, I gave this a 5 because the push and pull kept me entertained.
OMG I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! I was severly pleasantly surprised that I would love it as much as I do!!!
I just finished this book but can say easily that I could read it again and again. I just loved how this book made me feel!!!
This book hit the spot for me, especially after reading 2 dark-ish/heartbreaking/emotional reads!!! The characters were likeable, so, so likeable and relatable and funny!!! Sweet & subborn Bunny Brooklyn Valentine - is it weird that she is my hero?!?! I absolutely adore her & love the author for bringing her to life!!! And the story was real, heartfelt, romantic but not fluffy, there was anticipation, attraction, heartbreak... I loved that I lived those moments right along with the characters. I felt all those emotions! I think that is what surprised me most about this book!!!
Though I finished this book quicker than I would have liked (I actually tried reading slower so that the story would last longer) and am a little sad to say goodbye to the characters in this story, I am left feeling happy I got to experience an amazing book. I am still giddy about the ending too! :p
What a great little read. Two neighbors brought into each others lives by an accident. Two neighbors who fight their attraction. I thought it was very well written and moved along at a great pace, I wasn't bored and never once did I want to put it down, not even to sleep. I stayed up until I finished it. There was stubbornness and drama, happiness and tears, anger and forgiveness. And of course a happy ending. I really enjoyed it!
I really liked this book. I did feel like things moved a little too quickly. There were a couple of comments made that made me fear there would be inappropriate things but I'm glad there weren't!
This was an amazing, emotional, tear-inducing romance. And it definitely lives up to the series title.
Brooke and Travis are definitely complete opposites of each other--she's chaotic and he's orderly; she's almost always in a hurry and he's totally mellow; she's so self-conscious and he's so confident--that I wondered, from the very beginning, how they could possibly fall for each other.
And, yet, they did.
This book is simply overflowing with emotions. Brooke's inability to see how beautiful she is, is made painfully evident throughout the story. Her lack of confidence in herself (as a person and as a woman worthy of a man's love) is warranted by a past that, honestly, was so damaging I couldn't help but hope and pray that she would be able to move past it by the end of the book. Travis' insistence, to anyone who cared to believe him, that he was simply being a good neighbor, a good friend, a good pseudo-big brother was genuine...but only at first. His continued denial that Brooke could possibly be more than a friend wasn't lost on anyone, and it wasn't long before I was wishing I could smack him so he could see what was right in front of him: the one woman he couldn't live without.
And I absolutely loved three specific things about this story: the depth of emotions and character personalities, the characters' devotion to Christianity, and that Christians aren't without normal reactions. Ms. Crane did a superb job of weaving in Christianity without it being overwhelming, of showing that a God-fearing man can lust after a woman, and that it is possible for that man to walk away before the situation was beyond either of their control. That Travis' brain went straight to the gutter after one of Brooke's innocent remarks made him much more real and relative for me.
After all, readers should connect with the author on some level, at some point.
Thank you, Ms. Crane, for writing such a fantastic sweet romance. This is a story I will definitely read again, share, and recommend.
This is the first novel that I've read by Lisa Crane...and I LOVED it! Brooke and Travis' dynamic kept me wanting more this entire novel, and by the end, it did NOT disappoint. The last few chapters were especially wonderful. I will admit that I sometimes got frustrated with Brooke letting herself get in the way of what could be a nice relationship, but I was equally frustrated that Travis couldn't step up and see what was right in front of him. All is well that ends well though, and I really loved the plot for this novel and the way she wrapped it in a neat bow by the end.
I especially loved some of the scenes in Babycakes, where I felt like Brooke & Travis really started to see their spark; Thanksgiving dinner at the Cooper's house, where I felt Brooke handled herself extremely well, given the circumstances; the pet names Travis had for Brooke; and obviously the end of the book. The scheming from Jazz to get under Travis' skin was hilarious. I could picture it every step of the way and is SO something a woman would do for her friend, but I also couldn't blame Travis for how he initially reacted when it blew up on Brooke. It's one of those situations that you can see played out in real life and while funny from the outside, it ends up blowing up and at least one party doesn't seem amused. Sometimes it works out in the end, but sometimes it can be fatal for relationships. It made my emotions run wild for both of them though, and I couldn't stop reading.
This one kept me up late into the night because I was so hooked. Well done, Ms. Crane. I can't wait to read the next book!
Brooke Valentine is so not Travis Cooper's type. He is disciplined (used to be in the Army), organized, drives a Hummer, and owns his own prosperous security company. Brooke's life is chaos, and is thrown into greater chaos right after they meet and she is in a motorcycle accident (which he feels responsible for). While she is in the hospital she loses both of her crummy jobs, has to drop out of school because of all the classes and tests she has missed, has her electricity turned off, and the list goes on and on....
Travis wants to help her, especially since he feels responsible for the accident. But Brooke doesn't want to be anyone's damsel in distress - besides, she knows that she is not even in the same league as Travis Cooper.
I loved the secondary characters Riley and Jazz - they had their imperfections, but they were great friends and really wanted the best for Brooke. I also loved having a heroine who didn't have everything come easily to her, but who also kept getting back up every time she was knocked down.
I enjoyed this one so much that I can't wait to read the next book in the series, Not Her Type
This wonderful book had me hooked from the beginning. Reading about Bunny (great name) and Travis fighting their attraction for each other reminds me of my own life. Its a very clean, touching story that brought tears to my eyes at the end. I'm looking forward to learning about Nick's mysterious character in the next book and going back to read Jazz and Rileys story. I love books that are connected but can stand alone.
OK, it was a bit sappy, a bit predictable, and a bit on the corny side, but I loved every minute of it! I laughed - out loud - and even got a little teary-eyed in places. As I read the last sentence, I had a goofy smile on my face and let out a little sigh of satisfied pleasure. This kind of book is why I started reading romance, in the first place. A truly perfect read, especially for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Ok. Soo I really wasn't expecting much when I started this cute fun charming book. But, I was pleasantly surprised!!! The characters were lovable, the incidents made me feel all the things you want to feel for your characters. A home run!!! Can't wait to read about one of Travis' friends next in Not her type!!! Such a refreshing read and series!!! Thanks!!!
This actually turned out better then I thought it would have been. I actually got it but then didn't read it for like month I kept putting it off. But then when I did read it I loved it its such a good story and one that could basically happen to any one I recommend :-)Not His Type
For a hopeless romantic, this thing was a wild ride from start to finish. Well written and the humor in it was greatness. You'll care for some characters and hate the ones you're supposed to hate. That is all.
This is just what I needed. This was a cute romantic story. Travis was sweet and caring. Felt bad for all heartache that Brooke went through and glad she got the dream in the end.
I discovered a happy, romantic story with just the right amount of intrigue. Will he? Will she? A good, fast read for a quiet afternoon. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
This starts by saying that it was rewritten a few times over the years as the author learned more about writing - and it worked. Great writing. Great story.
A really sweet, romance with two very likeable leads.I'm really getting burnt out on reading romances because they are all such tales of woe and ANGST,and I thought this was beginning to look the same with the heroine insecure about her physical appeal, and the hero refusing to admit to himself his attraction to her.
However, this author was able to keep me from getting too annoyed with them,so I never came close to the stopping point of reading this book. I loved both the heroine and the hero, and wanted to finish their story. Great knee-weakening kisses, too!
This book was a one-day read. There was no way I could leave this story for another day!
Thankfully, though this is tagged a 'Christian' romance, I am thankful to the reviewers who complained that it did NOT have the religious proselytizing most Christian fiction is full of,so I took a chance, and am happy to say there is none of that god-talk in this book[only two mentions of attending church],so it was great! Unfortunately I won't be reading the second book'Not Her Type' -which is Nick's romance, because the synopsis makes clear that book IS full of that annoying proselytizing. :(
So I highly recommend this sweet romance, which works fine as a 'stand-alone' book.
This could have been a good story but it is in severe need of an editor.
* Exclamation points used way to often. It was just ridiculous.
“Travis, I wish you’d stop this!” Brooke said suddenly. She appeared uncomfortable. “I can take care of myself! I’ve been doing it for a long time!”
One would think Brooke was mad and yelling when she said the aforementioned but, no, she wasn't! This is just how she speaks! And so does Travis! Which, makes him sound like a drama queen! Hell! Everyone in the book speaks in this dramatic fashion! It's really fucking annoying!
* Conversations that should have been edited out & had nothing to do with anything (ie: reading directions on a pill bottle--do we really need a page of narrative on this subject???).
* WTF was up with that conversation between Brooke's boss, Jazz & Jazz's husband Riley?? Why was that there??
* I stopped reading at the point where Brooke had just started her new job with Babycakes and was talking to her boss like they were besties who'd known each other forever.
The name and cover are definately very descriptive of this book story.
Brooke Valentine is a sweet, shy, independent girl whose life never been easy. Travis Cooper is a confident guy, yes, hot and handsome too, who has a great life, was in the military and now has his own security business.
When Brooke has an accident, he feels responsible and try to help the little girl next door, but as people start to question his intentions to help her, he keeps saying she's like a little sitdster to him, actually at some point, I was ready to punch him in the face if he said that again.
As the book progress, he starts to see Brooke in a different way, but she's not the mos confident person, always saying their both in a different league and that she's not his type.
There's sweet moments, funny moments, lots of drama, the only thing tht I missed, there were not so many moments between them as a couple.
Great story, got my attention from begining to end!... definately a worth reading book.
This is a great book by Lisa Crane. It is about Brooke who lived with her grandfather after her mother dropped her off and said "let your dad pay the bills for a while", however her dad was not there, he moved away and was married to another. She never knew her dad. When her grandfather died she had to sell some of the land to pay expenses. She went to school and worked two jobs. Her new neighbour was building a house next door and a nail caused her to have a flat tire so she pulled out the motorcycle to go to school, only to have a worker step out between 2 vehicles and caused her to crash. Her neighbour (Travis) came to her aid and took her to the hospital. This is a great story which had be in tears one minute and the next laughing. Highly recommend this book.
Bunny Brooklyn feels like she's not good enough for the nice, handsome gentleman who's just moved in next door. The feelings are very real, as he pays for her hospital bills because of an accident caused by construction on his home. It's easy for her to ignore the attraction she feels towards her neighbor because no one has ever helped her in life, making her feel like a charity case. Bunny's independence is easily relatable. Travis is a confident, successful, persistent man who just believed he was doing the right thing by paying for her hospital bills, which leads to a budding relationship with his new neighbor.
This was a "christian romance". I felt the book was absolutely wonderful. It was a sweet, simple romance without all the heavy breathing & gross bodily functions. lol
Chivalry is not dead...at least, not in this story!
Travis Cooper is not only a hunk, but he shows a sense of responsibility rarely seen, today. All of the characters in this story were well developed. I loved Travis, Brooke, everyone...except Lorna. What a piece of work! Loved the book. I have to admit, the name Allison Cooper had me laughing. I will state one word of caution for any of you who like me, are colossal wimps when it comes to medical issues. Read the ER scene QUICKLY. I'm such a wimp, I almost fainted...TWICE. Yes, I'm pretty pathetic. I highly recommend this book. Keep writing them, Lisa!
This was such a sweet enjoyable book. I loved how strong and independent Brook was throughout the book. It also broke my heart a bit at how cruel her mother was to her, her whole life. Brook had such bad self esteem and low opinion of herself, when in actuality she just didn't know how truly awesome she actually was. All she needed was some good friends and a really gorgeous and caring neighbor. Travis moved in and was building a house on land that Brook sold him. She had a motorcycle accident out front of there houses that was partly Travis's fault. This horrible accident lead to changing both their lives for the better. I'm glad I found this book, it was quite enjoyable.
