DNF @58%...it would have been pure torture to force myself to finish this crap. I was skimming like my life depended on it. The characters are bland, the dialogue is beyond cringy, and the author repeats herself more than my mother after she's had 4 glasses of wine. If I had to read the MMC calling the FMC "my lady" after every single line, he spoke to her one more effing time, I was going to throw my Kindle at the wall. Oh, and another thing. The year is 1814 and it's London, England. No one is drinking coffee. They drink TEA. my god.
I'm so glad I only spent 99 cents on this garbage. Seriously, it reads like ChatGPT wrote it.
This was an entertaining and exciting love story. It had me hooked from the beginning, with its character's delightful and humorous interactions and incidents. I enjoyed how well written this romance is. I highly recommend reading!
This was truly a wonderful book! I love reading about scoundrels positively reformed by love. It’s dear to my heart because my scoundrel was completely reformed by our love.
Barwood charms us with wit, intelligent prose, and engaging characters in this sweet Regency romance. Both Adeline and Kit are the bane of their parents’ existence for different reasons. Adeline wants to marry for love not because a suitor is approved by the ton. She thwarts her mother’s persistence to appear the model of decorum at every opportunity, but she is the daughter of a duke, so she’s under a lot of pressure to not disappoint her parents by marrying their choice, not hers. Kit, on the other hand, is a second son with a reputation of a rake that he has been now regretting, especially after meeting Adeline. His parents have usually treated him with disdain or indifference. Read how the author steers this couple through uncertain times, wary parents, and a surprising suitor to reach their HEA. I hope there is a story regarding Adeline’s best friend, Lucy. She is refreshingly odd, but sincere. Although I have received an ARC from the author and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily, I purchased the book after the first few chapters. A purchase equates with 5 stars ✨.
Families pushing for marriage, a man brought up belittled and ignored with insecurity issues, a girl brought up not listened to and belittled, another man brought up with parents hiding his indiscretion, love found but pushed away.
Story brings a lot to deal with. Leaves a lot still unsettled mental health wise (we know it doesn't just heal fast. Nor are those types of lifestyle changes easy to quit cold turkey. Gambeling and alcoholism are addictive) still good, easy read. Made me feel for characters. Made me think a bit about how an arranged marriage would hurt. To me, though, a bit is unrealistic as written. I did like most of the twists and turns in plot though.
Debauchery, drunkenness, gambling, lasciviousness, innocence, murder?, abuse, forced marriage, love, neglect, belittled, ignored, truth revealed, deception, lies, pushed by parents.
When we meet Kit at the beginning of the book, he is a complete rake. His days are filled with drinking, gambling and womanizing.
Adeline is a beautiful albeit clumsy innocent struggling with overbearing parents determined to see her wed by the end of the season.
After a chance meeting, Kit becomes smitten with Adeline and is ready to give up his rakish ways.
However, her mother has already determined that as a duke’s daughter, Adeline, will marry a man equal of her standing and a rake does not meet her these standards.
Through various twists and turns, Kit and Adeline find their happily ever after together.
The book remains clean and only depicts a few chaste kisses, but it doesn’t shy away from Kit’s scandalous past.
This story was so well written that you were drawn in almost immediately...and stayed until the end. Loved the main characters and their banter. Both sets of parents were OTT irritating. The h's older sister was golden. The bad guy was well described and unfortunately he seduced the h's parents into supporting his actions against her feelings. The H saved the day in a spectacular way and it was a shame that the h's parents were only worried about THEIR reputations, sad. He saved her, himself and their HEA.
This clean romance is suitable for teens and adults. It is well written and follows the norms of an HEA. I found it difficult to like the two main characters. What can one expect if a person doesn't speak up for themself or think about consequences. That alone may be a good lesson as to why a young person should read the story. Harwood writes better than average romances, this one just didn't have the spark. At least one of the main characters should be very likeable. Still, it's an interesting plot.
WOW this was a great book. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down. Adeline and Lord Bertram were post to meet within and gather in her father presented. She post to be getting married and making a new life for herself but her father put some much of pressure on her to be married and have a family as a young age. Could she fall in love with him or runaway with somebody else that will find her interested. I highly recommend this book and you won't be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. Trina Jones
Both sets of parents want their children married. The hero’s father is tired of his second son’s rakish ways, but how can he reform enough for a lady to accept him. The heroine’s parents throw suitors at her, but definitely not the hero. The two main characters definitely have an instant connection. There are several twist until the HEA. I received an ARC for an honest review.
Adeline is being pressured by her parents to marry despite the fact she wants to marry only for love. She meets Kit after falling at a ball and is warned off him despite his act of kindness. As time goes on she finds her hea despite her parents and thanks to Kit interfering. Not a fan of Adeline’s parents and she gave up too fast
Quite an exciting story. He is a rake that wants to change his ways. His father has told him to change or else. She is starting another season and her mother is determined to see her married. Their journey to happy ever after is rough to say the least. Good read recommend to anyone that like Regency romances.
A wonderful story line and cast of characters. This story kept me reading until the end. Two lovers who finally get together after a mother helps her son know about the truth of the character his true love is wedding. A must read!
When you believe in true love it is impossible to settle for less. In a world of arranged marriages and marriages of convenience, A marriage of love is almost unheard of. When love strikes, it's like a lightning strike and can't be ignored.
Martha is a wonderful writer! I thoroughly enjoy her books. In this one young woman falls in love with a man that has a horrible reputation as a rake but once he met her all the other women disappeared. He only had eyes for her.
Lord Christopher Robert’s, second son, has been a rake for far too long and now must find a wife. A chance meeting with Lady Adeline has him pondering that idea. Can the ton and her family forget his rakish ways long enough to give him a chance?
A mother determined to find a husband for her second daughter.. Old or older but very respectable. But someone else slides in who is not so respectable & thinks he isn’t for the match. And thinking wakes him up at last to take what he loves!
This is a good book. The story is interesting. There are a few suitors, which kept things unpredictable. Just when it looked like no hope for love, there was some hope but then it was lost again. Such a riveting ending!
If you are a believer in love at first sight, then you will enjoy this story. For me unfortunately, there really wasn't any mystery or surprises in this story. It is a clean romantic story.
