Behind every war is a family. Behind every man, a great woman. Behind every myth is a Legend. Behind every tree, a spirit.
On the Third day of creation the Shajara Alma were born, and Ja'el, Lord of Oak, has led them ever since. From under the boughs of trees, he watched as man was created. He's seen empire's rise and civilization's fall. He has loved and lost, and seen countless generations grow old. Four hundred years ago, he watched as the Woodsmen burned in their capital, set aflame by a Hasilian Battalion bent on revenge, and taking the lives of many Shajara with them. Now the servants of a once great Empire of Wood have been forced into hiding, turning the forests that had been home into a prison. Until Ja'el hears the sound of war on the wind, and Eden, a race thought to be dead, threatens to burn the dwindling remnants of his people. In desperation he turns to the only ally of the Shajara Alma, Petra, the Blood Empress of Veveer. But Petra desires more than to help her friend. Eden threatens her power, and a threat to her is a threat to all.

Loved this book! It was a new fantasy I found on amazon and I have really enjoyed reading it. Splintered took me to a new world where different races control the elements of the earth and must fight to keep the evil king from using the elements to conquer the other races.
A Fantasy Fiction book. I really enjoyed this story. It's unique, but with what you would expect from an epic fantasy tale. There is action, adventure, sword and magic, wonderful characters and powerful scenes.
The Tree Spirit Lordship characters are so different but the author found a way to make them fit in nicely with the other characters. Braiden and Eswood were my favorites though. I really liked Braiden's bravery and honor. Plus she was a positive soul with a big heart. Eswood was brave too. He wanted to write the wrongs of his past, but he faced them knowing he would not be saved by his good deeds. He continued to try to do the right things. He had changed from a killer to a faithful friend.
All the main characters had depth and richness. The only thing I would say negative about the book is the first few chapters confused me a little. There were a lot of characters introduced and a lot of back story. Once I got to the introduction of Eswood and Braiden though, I figured it out and the rest (as they say) was smooth sailing.
I loved this story and would recommend it to anyone who loves epic fantasy but is looking for a twist, you know, something different to get your imagination juices flowing. I was completely taken into the story and wanted more.
Really interesting and original twist on the usual fantasy characters with great details to establish each culture / people as individual powers in the land.
Occasionally more gory than I necessarily want to deal with, especially when I'm reading in bed.
The story jumped straight into the thick of things with no build up and remained well-paced. The entire book felt more like a 'snapshot' of many political and historical issues coming to head at once, with flashbacks and memories to flesh out any details necessary to make sense of what was happening.
Very intriguing fantasy world, loved the descriptions of the tree spirits.
