Matthew and Julia have struggled with the upkeep of their farm so when they get the opportunity to join a cooperative that supplies them with volunteers who come to learn the way of the land, they are overjoyed.
The barn has become Matthew's sadistic playground. What lengths will he go to to protect his deepest desires, even from his wife.
Splatterpunk -proceed with caution, there are scenes that may make you vomit and question your life choices. Trigger Warnings - Extreme gore, Domestic Violence, child SA
“There’s something in your mouth,” she said. “No, there isn’t!” I replied, but it sounded more like “Oo, ee eeng” because I shoved the entire cupcake in my mouth when I heard her coming.
That is not something from the book, it was last night when my wife caught me having a midnight snack. Of course, that was after I read this book and was gathering my thoughts on the review. And if we can be totally honest here, it was that awesome cover by Christy Aldridge that caught my eye.
As a city boy, living on the farm is as scary as to me as it must be to shove your hand into a deep, dark hole with unknown terrors inside. Sure, there’s a 50/50 chance you might look like a brave hero who conquered his fears, but there’s also a 50/50 chance you might lose your hand and look like an idiot. So the concept of working on a farm is scary enough without adding some sadistic killer into the mix. And killing will occur in this story. Sick, psychotic, bloody murder. Did I mention this is a Splatterpunk story and it will freak you out if you aren’t into that scene?
Honest opinion – going into this there’s always the danger of reading something that is torture porn for no other reason than to try and get under your skin. While some stories are written this way for a certain audience, it just doesn’t float my boat. And I was hovering around 4.5 stars through most of the story. Then there was this one scene (can’t elaborate) that didn’t work for me – and it dropped my rating – mostly because I couldn’t figure out how it could be done. I won’t lie – I was disappointed. But then…oh man, when that story pulled together at the end, that is the reason you read this kind of story. To get to that ending, to go on this dark journey, because the destination made everything worth it.
I loved the way this story concluded – and I am overlooking that one scene to push it up to 5 stars, because extreme fans need to read this one, and I highly recommend it to that specific crowd.
OMG...fucking hell...OMG!!! This has to be one of the best books I've read this year... and Oh boy was it awesome. I just loved Matthew...and Julia...Well...what a woman...she didn't take no shit and she knew exactly what she wanted...and got it!! It was just unstoppable gorefest that flowed and gushed from every page from start to finish. The excellent ending put the cherry right on the top of a very big cream cake 🍰 This was the second book by Y.M Miller that I've read and I would most definitely recommend her books to all extreme horror fans.
3.5 stars. Well, this was certainly a splattery of punk sort of story. Tons of vulgar content, on both body horror and sexually deviant ends of the spectrum. And it was downright evil and fun. One thing that struck me as odd was how the author outright told you about events that just occurred between our lead couple, Julia and Matthew, but then spent the next portion of the book detailing it all further in real time. Felt very oddly placed and one could have sufficed without the other. Don’t get me wrong though, the really bizarre and unhealthy marital dynamics, backed by trauma, were fabulous, but, again, just the decision to double down on all that early on didn’t mesh with me. I also really felt like our primary victim, Melissa, had a lot going for her, but then none of it amounted to much. She should’ve also been a centerpiece here. Then things just felt very repetitive and incomplete after that. I dunno…I felt like this kept building awesome momentum, but then kept stomping the brakes. I feel like a solid content editor could have really molded this story into something special. The gore and extreme horror qualities were all in the right spots, but everything else felt very muddled.
A quick horror story with plenty of blood, gore, torture and totally deranged thinking and action, and all carried out down on the local farm. Get down there for some crazy goings- on, Farmer Matthew and his wife, Julia are both just dying to meet you. Temporary workers need only apply.
Really enjoyed this demented adventure, though felt that the ending just lacked that bit of magical sparkle and that little piece of something extra that would have brought the whole thing to a truly appropriate ending of pure and utter madness.
Final thought - not sure how the book title is supposed to fit closely with the actual storyline. All suggestions welcomed.
Rating: 4.3 red hot stars of horrific, bucolic depravity.
Amazing horror/splatter novel by Y.M Miller. This was a fast-paced, gory, disgusting and witty read. Genuinely enjoyed the writing style and humor in this book, as well as the “rural town slasher” theme. We get a glimpse of characters histories and nice developments which conclude the story with a satisfying end.
Already got another book by this author, very excited to read:)
Out on Godless today! Out on Amazon on June 15th! Add this to your tbr and wishlists ASAP☺️
Thank you Yvonne for such a kind opportunity to be your ARC reader for this beautiful work!
I was watching a farming program recently, and whilst watching I thought to myself, “Why isn't there more horror involving farming machinery?” Because, correct me if I'm wrong, but some of that machinery is NASTY!! I thought it would make for some brilliantly brutal extreme horror. So, imagine my excitement when this beauty popped up in my newsfeed. I was originally drawn in by the blood drenched and horrific cover, which is pretty damn cool, and then I asked the question, “Is there any farming machinery involved?” The answer was a resounding “Yes!”, with an evil little chuckle echoing in the background…. I immediately added it to my cart. A week or so later, to my delight, this beauty of a story landed in my inbox and I dove right in!
This is a fast-paced, action-packed, no holds barred, brutal from the outset, fucked up ride through a quaint little farmhouse, with its quaint little farmer and his wife who has a quaint little plan to satisfy her husbands sick and twisted desires, helping to farm out all the degenerates that volunteer themselves, and keeping everyone happy….right….?
The prologue itself was a hell of an opener, and by the end of the first chapter, I knew I was in for an insane and fucked up ride, what I didnt know however, was just HOW insane and fucked up! Full of barbaric but brilliantly creative kills, with so many tools and bits of machinery used, this was totally addictive.
Matthew and Julia have a pretty unique relationship, to say the least, with Julia the definite boss of the two! They love their farm, the isolation of it is perfect for her husband's little hobby. When Julia catches her husband in the barn in a very compromising position, their relationship quickly takes a turn and she meets out what she deems as appropriate punishment. It's not the first time, and Matthew lives in fear of her kind of punishment daily.
Matthew is a deeply disturbed, violent, merciless, fucked up individual, and for him, the messier and more bloodied a kill, the better. He likes his women naked. Unclothed right to the very minimum, to the absolute bare bones. He wants to wallow in their essence, bathe in their blood, rolling around in their remains so he can taste their trauma. In his mind he is an artist, and he finds the whole thing rather erotic.
When Julia makes him a strangely tempting proposal, he can't refuse. He is terrified of her, terrified of getting punished, yet extremely excited to continue to pursue his passion in more depth, to test out some of his deeper, darker, more sadistic ideas. Win/win right? But has she just made him worse, turned him into even more of a monster? She feels trapped and angry, causing things to escalate rather quickly and somewhat unexpectedly! Resulting in a brilliantly brutal and cathartic twist.
I don't know who I found more terrifying, Matthew or his Godly wife. Both are batshit crazy in their own rights and beliefs. She is cold, calculating and all business, whereas he is insidiously insane, impulsive and a complete uncontrollable liability.
I enjoyed the flashbacks to their respective pasts too, explaining why they are the way they are, whilst never excusing their actions. The reason Julia has such a hold over Matthew was darkly humorous….Oh Deer!! 😉
YM Miller, may I suggest a merch idea? Keyrings of the wrinkled, saggy, round variety that Julia keeps in her bag! I'd buy one for sure! 😂
Splatterpunk gorefest What happens when two psychopaths marry? And live on a remote farm away from prying eyes? A lot, a lot happens. This one is Full of gore, with unique kills to boot.
The author has done it again! And I’m here for it!
YM Miller has quite the nasty and hellish surprise for us Splatterpunk fans. 😱
Matthew and Julia have devised a solid plan to help with the upkeep of their farm, while also fulfilling her husband’s morbidly grotesque desires. They bring in a slew of volunteers that are all willing to learn the life of farming and teach them the in’s and out’s.
What happens in the barn…. stays in the barn.
Julia is the ultimate control freak that is disgusted with her husband, Matthew. She catches him in quite the predicament and offers a solution to better keep his tendencies at bay, all while under her watchful eye.
Y.M. Miller has truly outdone herself with this one cuz my god guys 😳 it is VILE, PERVERTED, IMMORAL af and filled with some of the most unhinged gore-ridden acts that will have you truly questioning your sanity. Oh and like always with her stories… a MAJOR PLOT-TWIST that will leave you audibly gasping and completely mind-blown. 🤯😱😳
I went through it with this book and to say that I was impressed would be an understatement. Miller brought all the heat with this one🔥 and I’m still not okay after finishing it. 🫣🫠
Splatterpunk fans will absolutely devour this one 😈
Pre-order is up on Amazon. Releases June 15th, 2024.
Matthew and Julia have a farm together and lately it's been a struggle to maintain and keep up. Julia is a "Godly" woman buuuuut she's got her evil side and Matthew has always been on the end of that. Matthew has always had interesting intentions and the one day he decides to act upon them, Julia catches him. She then makes him a sadistic offer he can't refuse
This was my 3rd book from Miller and I'm a huge fan! When she's writing splatter she fucking goes there and hard! This was filled with gore, cannibalism, sadist characters, and the perfect farm setting! The deaths were creative and some just fucking nasty! I enjoyed the backstory of Julia and the ending was a chefs kiss. The fucking cow scene 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
If you guys have read You're Going To Die Here by Miller, then you may have caught an Easter egg from it! It was the thing I haven't forgotten about since reading it! If you know Miller, you know her humor and to see it through the book was great! I had so much fun with this one and I definitely suggest it to anyone who loves splatterpunk! Can't wait for more!!!!
This lovely couple sure had me question my decisions in life that ended with me reading this. At one point I even whispered to myself "oh no...", as it dawned on me what was about to happen, "oh no no nononono. Brother, eughhhhhh."
Insane and absurdly violent. This book takes a turn into a world of depravity and quickly. There is no loss of brutality in this horror story. I mean one word if I could would be just SICK, almost too sick to finish and for that I gave it a nasty 5 stars. I absolutely recommend this book you won't be sorry that you read it.
I'm so glad that I went to the deer centre before I read this book or I'd have spent the whole time imagining what their bumholes are capable of. I don't think I'll look at the animals the same way again.
I won't lie, I loved Julia so much. What a boss ass bitch. This was gory and just gross at times, but I love there was still a storyline - well done way to wrap it up for the ending!
I have had the honor to beta read all of YM Miller’s extreme horror / splatterpunk books thus far and to say it has been a privilege would be an understatement.
When I read her first one, You’re Going to Die Here, I knew she was something special, and was going to do amazing things around here. I’d even be so bold to say that she’s the one female author at the moment that I wish more people were buzzing about, because she is so incredibly worthy.
There’s Something in Your Mouth has been one of the best reads I’ve had in a while. It goes hard from page one and doesn’t let up until the end. What I love so much about YM Miller is her ability to throw insane plot twists at the end. Her character development is top tier and the entire book in general is completely unhinged AF and vile. Exactly how it should be. Her kill scenes are unique as could be and well… I gagged quite a bit because she does that to her readers pretty damn good too. 🤣
The book is available for preorder now and will be available to any and everyone on June 15th.
I couldn’t put it down. I usually am a slow reader and take my time with my reads and I finished this in one sitting. First time read from this author. The story is filled with great imagery, tension, and battle to see which of our protagonists can take the award for worst person. If you like lots of gore, necrophilia, cannibalism, assault, and revenge this is a story for you!

Was so excited to open my emails to see another arc from one of the most talented authors YM Miller!
This book is following Matthew. A farmer with a secret in his barn. A secret he doesn’t want anyone to know about. Especially his over baring wife Julia. But when she walks in on him frolicking around in another womans lifeless body she knows her life is about to turn upside down.
This was fantastically written. Right from the opening chapter I knew I wanted to keep reading. I was excited from the start. It was a fantastic book with some really dark writing that had me thinking what goes on through Millers brain 😂 (if you’ve read it you’ll agree poor Adam!) Despite this being such a dark splatterpunk I actually felt for Julia’s character and loved her character development and how the story ended for her
Definitely recommend picking this one up when it’s released
This was my second book by Y.M. Miller and I can't wait to read more by her!
In this story, we follow an older couple on a farm who bring in new workers to help them with the hard labor, but they have other brutal plans with these individuals...
Starting on page one to the final page, the brutality and blood is extremely full on and does NOT hold back! It's written extremely well and guaranteed to please any splatter/extreme reader!
I love how our main characters are told, you love one and hate the other, then about halfway through the story, it completely flip-flops, making you hate the one you loved and love the one you hated.
My favorite part is probably the flashbacks, seeing our leading characters at a younger time, and explains the reasons why they are the way they are now. And the ending...OMG I did not see coming!
This is Splatterpunk at its full glory! So many depraved scenes, full of gore and blood. Torture at its finest, and a few other things I don't wanna spoil. Please check this one out asap!
4/5
I received this book from BookSirens and I am more than proud to review this for them and Y.M. Miller!
I was lucky enough to be gifted this on Audible by YM Miller 🤎
As always theirs no messing about when it comes to her books 🙌🏼 Even the narrator added an edit in about how he had to keep stopping due to gagging 🤣 (tbf that bit was absolutely gross 🤮)
The fact that the FMC carries her husbands right ball in her bag when she goes to church says it all really 🤣
And the MMC….yeah he’s absolutely past the point of unhinged, he just got more deranged as the time went on, and then came the back story with the dear 🫣🤢
It was disgustingly brilliant! 🤣 He was just craaaaazy f’d up 🤪 I enjoyed this so much 👌🏻👏🏼
There’s 2 things you should know about Y.M. Miller. 1. She’s a Pisces. 2. She has a personal vendetta against the male nipple & she won’t be happy until they are eradicated from the face of this planet. Look, I get it. I have them & they befuddle me as well. Though I would do away with them if I could, they’re stuck on pretty tight. Don’t ask me how I know this.
Male nipples: *exist* Y.M. Miller: “and I took that personally. Also, hand me that cheese grater.”
Quick synopsis: A lovely “American Gothic” lookin ass couple need help on their farm, so they start bussing in volunteers by the dozen. Why? because they keep coming up missing silly. What could be going on at that ol farm? Is someone really torturing and killing nubile young co-eds? Who would do such a thing? How are they getting away with this? More importantly, who the hell keeps leaving these pointless male nipples all over the floor??
Alright, enough tomfoolery & male nipple talk. Let’s get down to it. Y.M. Miller, as sweet as she seems, needs professional help. Grippy socks, the works. Cuz there are death scenes I can still see in my mind’s eye weeks after reading this. Deaths that I had to google what certain pieces of farm equipment were. The look on my face when I realized that THAT was being pounded through someone’s ribcage?? I clutched my inane man nipples in fear. Then, this Piscean perpetrator (she’s a March Pisces, I should known to watch her!) fucks around and gives us an insanely well executed revenge arc that pulls in elements from the backstory and leaves us with comeuppance and closure? Leave it to a fellow Pisces, I tell ya. Go get this book. Every book purchased benefits Miller’s mental health & could spare a multitude of innocent male mammaries. Think of the pencil erasers!
Notes from a Decaying Millennials: I was contacted recently by the author, with the opportunity to read and review and ARC of this forthcoming book. In exchange, as always, I would provide a fair and honest review. This is not a Paid Review. - Those familiar with the writing of Y.M. Miller are already aware of the creative ways she works Scottish History and folklore into her books. With her forthcoming novella There's Something in Your Mouth , Miller takes the seed of inspiration from Sawney Bean and his *cough* tastes *cough* and presents the reader with a smashing work of Extreme-Farm-Horror. Down the often ignored country road in the Rural Scotland lies the Farm of Matthew and Julia. Longstanding members of their community, and their Church. Their farm runs on the Three C's : Cows, Crops and Cannibalism...and that's just the beginning. Fans of Miller's novella You're Going to Die Here will enjoy this Rural romp, awash with blood, bile and a whole host of nasty viscera. Yet again, Miller leads her readers into story that will gross out, shock and inevitably lead to moments of laughter that only works of absolutely bonkers, extreme horror can do.
I freakin loved this book! YM Miller, in typical fashion, did not shy away from ANYTHING!
Matthew and Julia are your typical farmhands, only Matthew has a certain insatiable proclivity. While he harbors a heavy bloodlust, his wife Julia is a woman of God, ruling her marriage with an iron fist. She decides to oblige him and cater to his carnal desires, but Matthew needs to play by her rules.
Under a ruse of needing hired hands, Matthew and Julia come to an understanding, both of their hands soaked in red.
You do NOT want to miss out on this gore fest!! Grated nipples, wood chippers and viscera, oh my!!
Miller takes her readers down on the farm, where depravity and gore are abundant. Vicious and unrelenting from cover to cover!
Matthew and Julia have the perfect marriage, safe from prying eyes and suspicions. Nothing untoward at all going on between them.
That is what Julia wants everyone to think.
And she also wants to believe that she has her husband, Matthew, under her control.
She saw the sicko he was when they were dating and so she got it into her head that if they were going to be together, things would have to go HER way. If Matthew ever got out of line, she would punish him in the most horrific way. Maybe tell everyone his terrible secret. So she tries to put on a public image that she was a decent, God-fearing woman with a perfectly normal husband.
That all spiraled out of control on the day Julia finds her husband amid the bloody remains of his murder victim. But instead of divorce, instead of punishment and instead of calling in the long arm of the law, she hatches a plan that would benefit the both of them.
The only problem is, she underestimates Matthew’s murderous side.
Marriage is hard, but reading There’s Something in Your Mouth by Y.M. Miller makes me think that it must be a freaking picnic compared to the kind of marriage which Julia and Matthew have. This gory, creepy novel of a couple trying to find some way to keep things under control when one person is just as twisted as the other was a sheer delight to read. It also made me appreciate my VERY normal and “boring” husband all the bloody more!
Julia seems to be the kind of person who is trying to make the best of things, despite the cards she is dealt. I was stunned that it never occurred to her that instead of calling the police or reporting Matthew’s latest crimes, she instead decides that she must not only stay with this monster she married but figure out how to turn it into a win-win situation for them both.
But once Julia realizes that her plan only made Matthew become unhinged does she know that she must DO something about him. He was out of control. He was being sloppy. This loosening from her grip infuriates her. "She wanted to kill him. It'd gone past wanting to maim him. A grated nipple here, a ball sack there, had evolved beyond the simple act of deforming. She hadn’t wanted to get her hands dirty, yet she was getting them filthy. The day God handed out brains was when Matthew was placed firmly at the back of the queue." (Page 106)
Most normal people would get out of a situation like that while they were ahead of the game and could STILL walk away without being thrown into the slammer, but NOT Julia! She is determined to fix this! And that right there is what makes this story all the more entertaining. Sure, I laughed over how she thought she could still retain some kind of control over Matthew, but I knew it only meant that an even better story was ahead for me to read. I was not disappointed.
This story reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite TV shows, The X-Files, in which Fox Mulder asks a devil worshiper, “Did you really think you could call up the Devil and ask him to behave?”
When it comes to Matthew, that devil is indeed called up. And behave is the very last thing that happens.
There's Something in Your Mouth by Y.M. Miller is a gory, horrific and bloodthirsty story that will leave you cringing as you turn each page.
Thank you to the author and the publisher or publishers for all your hard work! I'm leaving this review voluntarily and happily! Take a look!
This was definitely one of the more descriptive books I've read this year. It was grotesque in some parts, and it had me looking at the walls in other parts. It definitely is going in my wtf. Did I read tags. It's sad to think something like this could happen in real life. If you're like me, i watch crime shows with my family, so something like this could happen, and it's so sick. It's horrific to even think about. There is death, gore, blood, abuse, and more triggers in this book. If you're not ok with torture or cannibalism don't read this book.
What's a man got to do to get what he wants? Listen to his wife, of course. A farm is no easy thing to take care of, and Matthew has desires that only the walls of a barn can hide. So what's got to be done about it? Well, volunteers, of course. Screams, death, blood, gore, and so much more happen on this farm. Do you have the stomach to see what all that is? Continue with Caution this is Splatterpunk.
I definitely have been going deeper into the darker parts of horror. Of course, others would still say this is still take, and yeah, I can agree, but every new book continues my journey. I did enjoy this book as the ending was very well deserved.
Alright, so I'm an avid horror and splatterpunk enjoyer. I really liked the premise of 'There's something in your mouth': the depravity, the moral ambiguity, the portrayal of the characters and the 'origin story'.
However, I'm giving it three stars because I feel like it was too slow for my taste. It does pick up a little bit about two thirds into the book. Additionally, the timeline did not seem to add up whatsoever. This left me confused and kind of ruined the immersion for me. There was also the occasional grammatical/spelling mistake and some weird expressions (but I'm not a native English speaker, so it might just be me). I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Even though I gave it three stars for the reasons mentioned above, I finished it because I was curious to see where the story would take me and I did somewhat enjoy it.
From the first two pages of this book, I knew it was going to be a wild ride, and I was determined to finish it in a single sitting, which I did. The premise of the story was somewhat classic for a dark horror tale, but the details and the creativity of the violence and gore scenes set it apart from the rest. I absolutely despised the male main character, and though I didn't particularly like his wife, I did find myself empathizing with her after getting to know more about her childhood. The characters were complex, and there was a great amount of personal background to help the reader understand them, making them feel human despite the vile and depraved acts they were committing. I thoroughly enjoyed this read, and I would recommend it to intermediate or seasoned extreme horror readers!
Farm Gore that will turn your stomach and make you heave till the cows come home.
Matthew and Julia live a miserable life on their little farm. Their marriage is a disaster, Julia loves god and her Sunday church besties more than she does her husband and Matthew....well Matthew loves putting certain parts of himself inside of dead things WAY more than he ever loved Julia. One day Matthew comes across a hitchhiker and decides he is no longer going to try and please his wife. But when Julia comes across his mess in the barn, well lest just say his other ball may well end up in her handbag as a trophy too.
The scene with the fence post knocker will never leave me. Another gory disgusting little novella, YM Miller is officially on my auto-buy author list.
This just might be my favorite offering from Miller yet! Always one to make sure the violence and gore are built around an interesting concept and storyline before she lets the blood fly, all the inventive scenes of death and torture feel justified, and hit that much harder. And that is yet another element you can rely on from a Miller tale: those imaginative death scenes. There's Something in Your Mouth raises the sick factor of You're Going To Die Here from a 10 to a 20! Mouth also has a sense of humor as well as a body count. The author has a cheeky way with words and their use of the C-word, in particular, is funny AF. This is good horror entertainment, and a bloody good read.
This is honestly the worst book I have ever read. Was it written by AI, dictated using speech-to-text, translated from another language? Tense changes even within sentences. It is full of typos, spelling mistakes, punctuation errors, incorrect choice of homophones. Some sentences are missing words, some sentences have extra irrelevant words, some sentences literally don't make sense. Substandard writing aside, the story sucks, the characters are one dimensional, the dialogue is flat and the pacing is all over the place. I wish I could give 0 stars, it has genuinely put me off reading.
