A Most Unsuitable Countess

Rate this book
A match most unsuitable. A love that’s undeniable.

Catherine, the widowed Lady Rosemont, is considered a most unsuitable countess by polite society. Whispers about her checkered history follow her wherever she goes. Was she once a courtesan? Is her young son really the late Earl of Rosemont’s child or a by-blow? And worst of all, is she a murderess? Despite the scandalous rumors, Catherine navigates high society’s treacherous waters with her head held high. For the sake of her beloved son, Louis, she must never sink. But when she receives threatening letters and young Louis’s life is endangered, she desperately turns to a past paramour for help…the man who once left her heartbroken. The far-too-honorable Earl of Dalton.

Adam St Clair, Lord Dalton, has always been one to adhere to family duty no matter the cost. Five years ago, he set aside his all-consuming desire for his mistress, the beautiful and mysterious Catherine Delacourt, and took a conventional ton bride. Now, newly widowed, fate decrees he should cross paths with Catherine once again. When she shares a stunning secret and implores him for protection, Adam is torn. With danger lurking around every corner, keeping Catherine and her son safe is undoubtedly the right thing to do. Nevertheless, Adam must decide whether he’ll risk his reputation—and his family’s—for the only woman he’s never been able to forget… The one woman who might just steal his heart…

Engrossing, captivating & very hard to put down. Wonderful characters, a fast paced story, electric chemistry & a mystery. I loved both Catherine & Adam & loved their second chance. There were twists & turns, steamy moments & surprises. I was drawn in from the start & several hours later finished it with a smile on my face. It ticked all the boxes for me & I highly recommend it
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

A Most Unsuitable Countess. Listen up you fantastic readers. Read this book. Take- the- time to read this book. I think that you will like it.
It has all the ear marks that any person who loves historical romance novels would want. A quick note: I think that you’re going to enjoy the steamy parts during the throws of passion between our two main characters. Say what?! Yes gels you will be treated with some delicious skin spanking or smacking. Which ever you prefer.
You know what you enjoy the most. So let’s discuss the book a little. What a fantastic job the writer did with this story. I was surprised, shocked, and amazed by the brilliantly written twist and turns that this story took me. The writing simply was amazing.
I love it when the writer gives me a book that has me completely enthralled with the book. I was not disappointed at all. The characters are terrific. Some are cunning others are sly and some are devious. Their characters are just simply well written.
Not only is it the characters that made the story so real like, but it’s the outstanding narrative that collaborates so well with the descriptive details. The characters emotions, their passion, their rage, their happiness, their vindictiveness and their love spoke volumes based around at how they were written in the story. There are scenes that had me anxious to know what’s going to happen next. Once you read the plot you will see that it’s a must read. Speaking of the plot.
Again, my opinion is that it was brilliant. I thought that it was perfect for Adam and Catherine, who just so happen to be the main characters. The plot works very well for our main characters goals towards piece and happiness. To reach these goals Adam and Catherine had to face a number of enemies, danger and life threatening obstacles. Neither new that these events would throw them together again.
Do you think that these two had help from family members? Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Some family members you cherish. Other family members you know real well. You smile, say hi or waive from a distance as you move on. Then there are some family members that have you packing heat every time they pass by your house.
Yes, this book has people lurking in the the streets at night. There are people disappearing and or murdered. Many trips to Newgate. It has spies, s-e-x, lies and backstabbers. Welcome to Genoa City everyone! Well you feel like you’re reading a script from that tv soap opera. During these times some how Adam and Catherine find ways to explore some kinky sides of love making. Now these moments in the story peaked my imagination to a whole other level. There are scenes in here that are toe curling, can’t catch your breath kind of scenes? Had enough?
Alrighty then, because there are a number of these scenes to satisfy that lovely imagination of yours. This story has so much entertainment that I found myself very pleased at the end. I look forward to more stories to come from this series. I give this book two snaps and a, Oh Adam, I like it when you touch me right there. I love it when you do me right there.
Until next time my fellow readers. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Sometimes in my reviews you will see, this is a favorite author. Well, since 2015 and over 2600 reads, I have read hundreds and hundreds of different authors but I only have 25 “favorite” authors and another dozen or so that I have read pretty much all their books, at least in my genre. I read 1 of Amy Rose Bennett's book in 2016, 1 in 2017 and then picked her up for good in Oct, 2019. This is my 16th book by her. I really love her writing and her stories. She has great characters and yummy sex scenes.

I don't give reviews like you normally see. Sometimes a reviewer will repeat everything from the authors book description. I actually don’t even read those anymore so I am totally surprised on all aspects of the story. No hint of spoilers of any kind. I have no idea what the book is about before I start reading it. I am even reluctant to say too much in my reviews as to give any hint of what happens. I think I’m a pretty good judge of a good or bad book and those who see my reviews know what authors I read and can see how many books by that author that I’ve read. With all that being said, I do like to inform you if it’s a good read or not without giving anything away. A good book to me is one that you don’t want to put down. One that makes you feel like you’re watching a movie while reading it and actually standing in the room with them watching/reading the story take place. One that you read in one sitting and only stop for bathroom breaks. One when you finally look up from reading, it takes you a minute to realize where you are.

I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. I do have to say sometimes these Lords of the Ton can be such asses. They rely too much on what the “ton” thinks and sometimes it’s so freakin’ aggravating. I loved Catherine’s personality. She took some shit but stayed true to who she was. I freakin' love their chemistry. It was so fucking hot! Sex was super hot. This is definitely going on a June favorite read.

This is an excellent mystery with a lot of spicy scenes.
Catherine, who was Adam St. Clair, Lord Dalton's mistress goes to a ball to tell him some news only to find out that he is announcing his engagement that evening. Catherine is offered marriage by another older lord who needs an heir. After his death 4 years later, she begins receiving threatening letters and little accidents start to happen.
When she realizes that her son is in danger, she turns to Adam, who is now a widower for help.
Adam has never forgotten Catherine and when she tells him about her son, he vows to protect them at any cost.
I loved the mystery and the relationship between Catherine and Adam.
There are a lot of interesting side characters in this book that make it a fabulous read.
I gave it 5-stars.

4.5-Came-Back-to-His-Senses-Stars

This entire series is for a mature audience, not just by age, but by emotional maturity. There is nothing usual about this plot, as it colours outside the lines of well-liked tropes, pushes boundaries and makes you wonder. But true love can be found under the unlikeliest of circumstances.

- There was so much angst in this story
- The struggles and the pain felt so real
- Cathrine was a fighter and a winner
- Adam was hesitant for slightly longer than I would have liked, but understandable
- The romance was for the ages
- The mystery held it all together pretty damn well

Take a bow Amy Rose Bennett.

Kobo+ Mad About Series Challenge HRBC 2025. Tropes: Regency Romance, Mistress, Single Parent/Child, Widow(er), First Love Second Time Around, Pregnancy, Knight in Shining Armor.
MC's h. L. Catherine Forstescue (Countess of Rosemont) nee Delacourt,29, widow and mother of Louis, 4. H. L. Adam St. Clair, Earl of Dalton, 30+, widower. Catherine had been Adam's mistress for a year before he married his wife Sybil, one his mother approved of. Meanwhile Catherine was pregnant with Louis, Adam's baby and married L. Edward Fortescue, Earl of Rosemont who named Louis his heir.
Comment: This was the last book in this series. All the stories were connected through L and L Maxwell where they ended up being matchmakers for all the couples in each book. This was a mystery suspense that kept you guessing up until the last chapter. As a reader you suspect the most obvious culprits but there is someone you least suspect. This mystery was well done. The love story between the two MC's was also well done with lots of sexy love scenes. I gave this 4 stars.

Third book in this series, it can be read as a standalone.
Catherine has finally Adam as her husband but at what price? He married her for duty and for protection… not exactly the same motivations as she.
She must guard her heart and prevent him to see her real feelings to avoid adding “pity” to his reasons for marrying her.
But is it really only duty and protection for Adam? when he’s on the verge of losing her forever he will come to terms with his real feelings.
Heartbreaking, gripping and emotional with a touch of mystery, this story has it all.

“He’d struggled to be the exact opposite of what his father had been.”

I think the best thing about this book is Catherine, which is surprising as what usually draws me to a romance novel is the hero. But Catherine hands down stole the show. She was truly extraordinary. Basically self-made she was strong, intelligent, brave and honorable. She loved with her whole heart and was completely devoted. She did what she had to do to protect herself and her child and never apologized for it.

Adam on the other hand was very disappointing for much of the book. I thought at first, despite his having ended their relationship, that he truly cared for her and would be strong, especially when his first instinct was to protect and help her when she’s falsely accused, but then he let me down. Five years later when they meet again, both having married and then widowed, I was furious when he basically treated her like she was still the courtesan he’d once known. He hurt and insulted her and I was even more disappointed with him. Yes he eventually manned up and yes he atoned and even paid penance for it but still, it shouldn’t have taken him that long. I know he had his reasons and he thought they were good ones and to be honest he hurt himself as much as he hurt her. He calls himself a self-absorbed dunderhead and he’s absolutely right. I’ll give him credit, once he committed he was true, even if he did continue to be often blind to what should have been obvious. I literally rolled my eyes when he told himself that once the danger Catherine was fighting was passed, maybe then he’d let himself fall in love. What a brainless idiot. Like anyone can really control if and when they fall in love! Fortunately love itself humbles him and teaches him a lesson. He certainly deserved it! By the end I forgave him and came to care about him. I do think Catherine forgave and forgot too quickly but I wasn’t surprised, knowing what a loving, generous woman she is. And she definitely deserved her long and hard won HEA!

The story has a substantial plot with a lot of twists and sometimes unexpected turns that I’m not going to spoil. It was fun and interesting, although the middle dragged just a bit and the final resolution of the conflict was a little too neat and pat, but there were no loose threads and the epilogue was fantastic. One thing I do wish is that we had been given a little bit more about their backstory. We know they were together a year before the book started and I really feel we missed out on seeing that original relationship. All we really got were a few references and hints. I would have liked a bit more.

The book is very steamy and open door with a number of explicit scenes but they were extremely well written and appropriate. Catherine and Adam had wonderful chemistry and not once did I feel their bed sport (I love that expression) was excessive, unnecessary or vulgar. Just the opposite. I thought they were very romantic and tasteful, not something I find very often in historical romances nowadays. The author is a very talented writer with a gift of balancing words, thoughts and action. It’s my first book by her and I’ve already purchased several more, starting with the first two books in the series, which are both couples that are mentioned in this story. I’ve also looked high and low for Helena and Phillip Latimer, the Count and Countess of Maxwell’s book but have been unable to find it. I adored the characters and would really like to read their love story. Hopefully one day I will. Until then she has over twenty others for me to enjoy.

DNF at 50%

So, to start off I want to make it clear that this review will be quite biased thanks to my personal reading experience of late, so I would advise you to take it with a grain of salt. That said, read on.
This past year has been dismal for me in terms of reading; I’m in the middle of a terrible book slump, especially when it comes to romance, and I’ve been unable to finish/enjoy anything I start, regardless of quality. I think a big part of why is simply that I’m tired of reading the same plot points/tropes over and over again, but I’m also incapable of getting into other types of romance (dark, RH, monster, you name it) so a big part as to why I got so bored with this particular story is because I’ve read countless others that were very similar. Despite that, in normal circumstances, I would’ve probably liked this book if the characters, chemistry and steam were slightly more memorable.
Unfortunately, I found both Catherine and Adam (mostly Adam) bland and one note. They were both fairly realistically written characters for a romance, but maybe that’s the problem you know? Most MMCs in novels such as this one tend to be rather over the top and noteworthy, instead of utterly forgettable, so I had a hard time connecting with Adam. While Catherine worked a bit better as a protagonist, she was also fairly one-dimentional, so when you couple the boring romance with the basic plot setup, you end up with something akin to a snoozefest instead of the riveting mystery-drama the author set it out to be.
Regardless, I do think Bennett is a talented author who has a particular way with words I like, so I’m more than willing to read whatever she comes up with next, if the story and characters seem like it would be worth the effort.

I loved this historical romance! Catherine was Adam's former paramour, a situation she hopes that he will regret once he finds out that she is carrying his child, only to find out that he is announcing his engagement that evening and at the same time she finds herself on suspicion of the murder of her dearest friend Louis. Adam is trying to help her but has to stay away because of his familial duty. Then an unexpected proposal makes Catherine a countess and we transfer five years later in our story finding both Catherine and Adam widowed. Treats, blackmail and nearly deadly accidents are happening against Catherine and her son and she decides to ask Adam for help and that reunion is meant to change their lives forever and give them a second chance at happiness while solving a mystery. Also, Louis was such a sweet and charming child and Adam's mother had great character development and I really sympathised with her. I loved Catherine and Adam's chermistry, their connection was amazing!

Heroine: Catherine Delacourt, 29. Widow of the Earl of Rosemont and a former courtesan.

Hero: Adam St. Clair, about 32 or 33? Earl of Dalton. A widower.

Date: 1811, 1816 (epilogue = 1821)

How they meet: Catherine and Adam met off page. She was his mistress, but he broke it off when he became engaged to a more suitable woman.

What happens: Catherine became pregnant by Adam. She seeks him out at a ball to tell him, but learns he is about to announce his betrothal. Feeling rejected, she decides not to tell him afterall. When she goes to find the gentleman who escorted her to the party, she discovers he’s been stabbed and he dies shortly after she finds him. She is then found leaning over him, covered in blood, and is accused of the murder. Adam does what he can to help her, but it is limited by the fact that his new fiancée’s father doesn’t want him involved due to Catherine’s reputation. Her name is cleared the next day and the elderly brother of the man who had been killed visits her to thank her. He deduces she is pregnant and offers to marry her. His deceased brother was his heir and he doesn’t want the title going to an inept cousin.

Verdict: I liked that the set-up for this story was unique. The drama at the beginning helped to define the characters, the heroine being a very capable survivor, making the best of a challenging situation and the hero being a bit more complex. He was determined to do the right thing by society’s definition in marrying the right kind of woman, but as a very passionate man, he was not entirely unfeeling towards his mistress even if he couldn’t fathom the idea of marrying her. After a time jump, the mystery of who was targeting the heroine and her son drove much of the storyline and brought the hero and heroine together in a marriage of convenience, complicated by the complex emotions the two were feeling. Even though this began as a lust relationship, it didn’t feel as shallow as this setup often does. The heroine's young child gets quite a bit of page time, but is very well-mannered. I believe this is the third in the series, but it read fine as a standalone.

Steam level: very steamy and explicit

Thanks to Booksprout for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.

I have the other two in my TBR pile, stored on my ebook, but just have not gotten around to reading them as yet, but it does not appear that they need to be read in order for the story to be appreciated. I was intrigued by the blurb on this one and had to read it first.

It opens up in the past to lay the background to the present day story, where Catherine Delacourt, a beautiful young courtesan tries to meet up with her previous protector, Adam, Lord Dalton, to give him the news that she was pregnant. What she did not realize when she found him, was that the ball she was crashing was to celebrate his betrothal to the daughter of a fellow peer. Catherine is heartbroken, and backs off, knowing there is no future for the two of them, keeping her news to herself. She was escorted by a close friend, but just before they can leave, he steps aside to finish some personal business for himself.

Unable to wait any longer, Catherine searches for her escort and comes upon him, injured and bleeding. As she goes to him, he is able to speak his last words to her, but before she can get help for him, she is struck unconscious by his assailant. Later, when she wakes, she is found bloodied, with the dead body of her friend, by the hosts servants, who assume the worst.

The book starts out with heartbreak, murder, a secret pregnancy, and the despairing Catherine being carted away as an accused murderess, to Newgate - pregnant, alone, having lost her man, one of her best friends, and now possibly her freedom and life.

What a gripping opening!

I fully enjoyed this story because it grabbed my attention in such dramatic fashion right from the beginning. Catherine manages to get out of her bind at Newgate obviously because the meat of the story occurs later on, when she is a widowed Countess and guardian of her child, the true child of unknowing Lord Dalton. But she and her child are the target of a dangerous conspiracy and she must find a way to keep him safe. This leads her back to Lord Dalton, also widowed.

Despite her desire to not marry again, and lead a quiet life, she is forced to find her former lover to seek his protection for their child, telling the truth of the child's birth. Adam agrees to marry Catherine to keep them safe, wanting both to know his son, and to have the passion that he and Catherine shared, after a disappointing marriage of his own.

Catherine, despite being married to the man she loves, is very aware of the scandal of their past, and endeavours to be a good wife and mother, but is fearful of having her heart broken, and tries hard to armour her heart from Adam. She is aware that he has married her because of his son, and to protect them, but not because of love. Adam, who had lived to do his duty and avoid scandal, has likewise never forgotten the happiness and passion he had shared with Catherine. But in their second chance together, and desire to build a family, they must face the censure and gossip of their own family, society, and the outside threats to their family and lives.

Exciting, steamy, passionate romance with angst, danger, conspiracy, and multiple villains, as the past haunts Catherine and Adam.

I always enjoy books by this author, and this was no exception. The first several chapters are fast moving and harrowing as Catherine, a courtesan originally from France who has just learned she is pregnant, is implicated in the murder of a close friend at a party they'd been attending. The situation only becomes more fraught from there; she has discovered she cannot marry Adam, an earl and the father of her child, due to his impending marriage, so she has little protection from those who assume the worst of her. She spends the night in Newgate before she ends up marrying the brother of her murdered friend, Lord Rosemont, in order for her child to have legitimacy.

Five years pass, and neither Adam nor Catherine have forgotten each other. But, though both are now free to be together, can a successful marriage and ultimately love exist in their future?

At this point in the book, the trope that is focused on the most is "hidden baby", but thankfully (since that's one of my least favorite tropes) it's not the focus for very long. Catherine tells Adam fairly quickly that the child is his, and they marry out of convenience, mostly because she and her son need refuge. They are becoming the targets of strange "accidents" and have been receiving threatening notes from an anonymous source. Adam steps in ostensibly to be their protector, and puts his own reputation at stake, facing censure from his mother and sisters as well as the Ton.

Although there is some emotional drama here, this is a fairly low-angst book, with the MC's primarily seeking who the culprits are behind the messages and attacks. The steam level is high, and I felt Catherine and Adam had strong chemistry. It was easy to root for Catherine, who's been through so much and is a loving mother. She has an outspoken but still true-to-the-period ladylike demeanor that you don't see a lot in HR's these days.

I wasn't quite sure about Adam, though. I felt he mainly took a backseat in the opening chapters, when he could have been a stronger character. He does chastise himself a few times for not stepping up earlier, and he has reason to be cautious, but still, he was a little too "status quo". I also wasn't crazy about the fact that he sought out Catherine again after five years merely for sex; it never occurred to him that maybe she was over being a courtesan. Of course, he has a character arc toward the end and does grovel pretty well; he's just not quite the kind of MMC I go for.

A couple other quibbles: you start to like Adam's mom and sisters as the book goes on, but they're strangely absent from most of the later action. I was hoping his mom in particular would be worked into the plot more, but she doesn't play a large role. Also, I thought Catherine made an outrageously silly decision toward the end, once she realizes who the culprit likely is.

Overall, though, this is enjoyable escapism with plenty of steam and a slightly twisty mystery plot. It's a great book for winding down after a long day, with a nice dose of spice.

I read an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary review. Opinions are my own. Thanks to the author for this opportunity.

This regency romance about a courtesan/widow and her former paramour is exciting, action-packed and deliciously decadent. The story open with Catherine Delacourt approaching Adam St. Claire to tell him that she’s pregnant with his child. But she doesn’t get the chance because he’s terminating their relationship to announce his engagement to a “lady”. Humiliated, Catherine seeks her elderly friend and escort, Sir Louis Fortescue, to take her home. Her search finds him stabbed and before he dies, he reveals his killer - Baron Makepeace. Since she’s found with the now dead Sir Louis, Catherine is wrongly accused for his murder and has to spend a night at Newgate until her name is cleared. The following day Sir Louis’ brother, Lord Rosemont comes to thank her and offer marriage since he’s aware of her pregnancy and would like to claim the child as his heir…effectively denying his male cousin, Benedict Fortescue, the title.

5 years later, Catherine is now a widow and her 4 y/o son, Louis Edward Adam Fortescue, has been subjected to a series of near fatal accidents. With no male relatives to whom she can turn to for protection, Catherine seeks out her son’s father - Adam St. Clair, now a widower. Read how Adam responds to the knowledge that he has a son. Will cowardice and duty rule his actions as they once had? How will his mother and his two sisters respond to his decision to protect Catherine? When will Catherine share her true feelings for Adam? The author does a stellar job of providing readers with numerous interesting characters and their role in this mystery. This is a well developed plot with many twists and turns to heighten our suspense. She also pens many sensual love scenes between the couple celebrating the passion they used to share. Readers cannot help but admire the indomitable spirit and relentless fortitude of Catherine who is constantly undermined and insulted because of her previous occupation. But they will also be disappointed with Adam’s initial response when he sees the widowed Catherine again - he thinks with his nether regions. Thankfully he redeems himself shortly after. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and will read again. I have received an ARC from Booksprout and I am leaving an unbiased review voluntarily.

Amy Rose Bennett blends passion, intrigue and drama in her enthralling and emotional Regency romance, A Most Unsuitable Countess.

Polite society has always looked down its nose at Catherine, the widowed Lady Rosemont. Rumors abound about her past and despite of the fact that gossip and scandal follow her wherever she goes, Catherine must keep her head high and not let anything and anyone get to her. She has her young son, Louis, to think about and Catherine will do her utmost to ensure that not a single hair on her boy's head is harmed. Catherine has managed to keep her head above water thus far, but when she starts receiving threatening letters that put Louis in danger, she realizes that she needs help and that the only man who could help her is the only man she had ever loved, Adam St Clair, Lord Dalton.

Adam has always put duty and his family first - even when his heart was breaking. Five years ago, he had been forced to turn his back on the woman who meant the world to him in order to marry a suitable bride; a decision he has regretted ever since. When he crosses paths with Catherine again, never forgotten feelings quickly resurface and although he knows that he should give her a wide berth, when he hears of her predicament and her worry about Louis, he vows to do whatever it takes to keep them safe - even if it means putting his heart on the line in the process.

With the stakes having never been higher, Adam and Catherine find themselves growing closer yet again. But will they grasp this second chance at happiness? Or will duty and responsibility cost them a love that could last a lifetime?

A Most Unsuitable Countess is an intense, captivating and spellbinding historical romance by Amy Rose Bennett. A terrific Regency tale that aims for the heart and does not miss, A Most Unsuitable Countess is a steamy historical tale full of danger, desire, intrigue and heart that I couldn't bear to put down.

Five years ago, on the night she means to tell Adam that she carries his child, Catherine learns that he is to marry another, witness the death of a friend, and is arrested for said friend’s murder. She does not tell Adam about the child. Shortly, Catherine receives a proposal for marriage and becomes the Countess of Rosemont. Now both she and Adam are widowed. Even still he can’t bring himself to wed his former mistress. That is until he learns that she and his son are in danger. They spend the first part of their marriage trying to fend off scandal and solve the mystery of who means harm to Catherine and Louis. This is a compelling second-chance romance with a dose of mystery and danger. There is blackmail, treason, murder, and betrayal. There is also a great reunion between Adam and Catherine, and a very steamy romance. Catherine is strong and has endured much. Adam was a bit shaky at first, but comes through for his family. His family is a bit difficult until they meet Luis. Luis is a remarkable and delightful child. He and Adam form a loving relationship as soon as they meet. There are villains, several, all with different motives. Lots of excitement, a hold-your-breath conclusion to the mystery, and a wonderful happy ending. Great read!

Catherine's Fate . . .

Society at that time is so very judgmental, they revel in gossiping and pointing the finger at anyone unfortunately enough to break their ironclad rules. So Catherine, the widowed Lady Rosemont, has been their target for some time with all the rumors about her past. She was the former courtesan of Adam St Claire, the Earl of Dalton, and had found herself pregnant. But Adam was engaged to Lord Winthorpe’s daughter, Lady Sybil. So Catherine, in turn, married the Earl of Rosemont who needed an heir to keep his second cousin’s social-climbing wife from inheriting his estate and ruining it. Marrying Catherine would make her child legitimate, and the child’s real father is already well-respected and makes the child a worthy heir.

However, now that she has become a widow, she is receiving threatening letters that could affect her young son, Louis, and she must get help. Since both she and Adam are widowed, she asks him to help her protect her son. Will a marriage of convenience work out to keep them safe? Will they find out who is threatening them? And will this become a second chance to finally claim their love?

This book by Amy Rose Bennett is definitely a great example of how well she writes historical romance. It’s swoon worthy for sure. Book three in her Scandalous Regency Widows series this one stars Catherine who as a former lady of the evening is definitely scandalous. But she’s just so nice and doesn’t deserve what is plaguing her and her young son. Adam is much more of a typical aristocratic of the time who sets Catherine aside until they meet up later when they are both single again. This would be enough for most writers of historical romance but Ms. Bennett adds on a mystery that is not easy for the characters or me as a reader to solve. This is unusual as I can usually tell who dun it fairly quickly in most books. I was on tender hooks till nearly the last page. Congratulations on another great book Ms. Bennett.

This was so good!! I have yet to read something by this author that I don't thoroughly enjoy, and this is no exception.

I picked this up because I've been reading so many non-human romances, that I needed to break it up with something completely different, like a historical. Didn't even bother reading the blurb. There isn't really any triggering content that I noticed, but it does deal with sex work.

This is a secret baby, second chance romance between an Earl and a courtesan turned Lady and widow. It deals with the pressures of society, and of course includes a strong, badass heroine that you can always expect from this author. It was swoony, smart, suspenseful, and spicy!

I followed along with the audiobook and it's definitely the way to go, and if you're interested-the series is available on Everand. Highly recommend!

I was extremely fortunate to receive an ARC of A Most Unsuitable Countess from the esteemed Amy Rose Bennett. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Adam St Clair, the Earl of Dalton, must marry a respectable lady because of his father's transgressions. He has been with his mistress for over a year but must end it now. Five years have passed and Catherine, the former mistress, is now the widowed Lady Rosemont. She and her son are possibly being targeted. The story begins mysteriously with Catherine being accused and arrested for the murder of her friend, and continues with the hunt for who is trying to hurt her and her son. I was completely intrigued in trying to figure out the whodunit. Absolutely must read fantastic story!

Lady Catherine Rosemont doesn't have a sterling reputation. Following her mother as a mistress, she has her heart broken by her last protector, Adam, the Earl of Dalton. Breaking off with Catherine, he must marry a lady with a sterling reputation. The Earl of Rosemont offers marriage to save Catherine's reputation. Five years later, Adam is a widower and realizes Catherine is the only one he has always wanted. Threats and accidents to her son, forces Catherine, a widow, to go to the one man who can help. She refuses to become Adams mistress again, she will only accept marriage. A very erotic romance with a mystery. I enjoyed reading on a rainy afternoon.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this exceptional story about a love that refused to go away. Catherine faced incredible challenge in her life - she rose above it. Her love for Adam and their son was her strength. Adam didn't know he loves Catherine until he had to make a decision, become her protector and pappa to her son. I loved that Catherine wasn't the traditional heroine and that it made her a strong person and she never lost her capacity to love. The story is well written, fast paced with lots of angst, friendship, mystery, revenge, kidnapping, steamy scenes, family and family relationships. Told from dual POV reveals intimately their thoughts, feelings and emotions as they explore their relationship. There's an epilogue and a HEA. Highly recommended!

Second chance at love

Can they move on from the past? Catherine knows that she needs to tell Adam that she is pregnant but everything changes before she can. Adam is set to marry someone else as he could never marry his mistress. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't care for her. She marries another and has their son but she is alone now. Adam is also alone but when he suggests that she be his mistress again she realises that she will never be enough. She needs his help as someone wants their son dead. Will Adam give up everything for them? But will they ever be allowed to be happy?
A good read

Catherine, the widowed Lady Rosemont puts up the barbs and stings of high society for her son's sake but when things heat up Catherine turns to the one man who betrayed her love, Lord Dalton.

Adam St Claire needs to decide should he risk all and reignite the spark for the one lady he can't get out of his mind.

Bennett does it again with this wonderful Scandalous Regency Widows series. She is one of the best writers in this genre. Her characters are engaging and oh so real. Loved it. I've been reading and loving her series for years.
Such a special writer.

This book too me awhile to get into, and it really felt more like a mystery novel than a historical romance novel. Once I got into it, though, it was fast paced. I liked that there were some surprises. I thought the communication between MCs was lacking sometimes. I felt that Adam really wasn’t good enough for Catherine and that he should have groveled. The book has a nice amount of steam. Overall a solid read.

I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

I was so engaged with this story, I had a hard time putting it down. The dialog, the story, the untruths, the mystery all lead the way to an intriguing story. Amy sure knows how to write a story that makes it worth the time to read it. I was surprised during parts of the mystery. I did think that Adam should have done more groveling and Catherine was way too nice sometimes. Their love really comes through in the story and it was a beautiful thing.

I received a complimentary copy.

I love babies and kids involved in stories. I have read the other previous books in the series and this one was very anticipated. Catherine and Adam were very loveable characters. She was a courtisan and him her protector. Not your typical bluestocking. I absolutely loved it. Plenty of suspence. Plenty of steam. The only minus for me there were too many inner thoughts from the two leads through out the all book. It was sometime repetitive. A part from that I've enjoyed it.

Just WOW! Another amazing book from this author! I loved the heroine who didn’t immediately fall at the hero feet! She knew her worth! Loved the drama and the mystery as well. Plus steamy scenes beautifully written and helped move the story on with regards to the characters emotional journey. Well done.
I was given an ARC copy in return for my honest opinion.

This is a new to me author and I enjoyed the story very much. It is well written with great detail and very likable characters. The story is full of mystery, intrigue and sizzling romance. The hero and heroine finally get their happily ever after and the villains get what they deserve. I would recommend this author and would enjoy reading more of her work.
