Natalie Lyster was once an honorable soldier, having given years of service to the Galactic Alliance. But when a government conspiracy led to the death of a loved one, she went rogue. After years on the run, she now leads a criminal organization, working for the highest bidder. That bidder is the corrupt planetary union Czar. The job has taken Lyster and her crew to the planet Salacia. Their excavate the zorbernite mineral from the slopes of the supervolcano Mount Ragnarök and deliver it to the Czar military. In their digging, they have found more than mineral… While returning from a supply run, Lyster’s ship is intercepted by a strike force led by Commander Tucker Greyson. The chase leads through the planet’s atmosphere, where it becomes an aerial assault. The pursuit goes haywire, for a swarm of giant alien wasps emerge from the mountainside and bring down the spacecrafts. Forced to travel on foot, Greyson and Lyster quickly learn the wasps are only the beginning of their problems. Man-eating raptors lurk behind every tree, ambushing everyone who gets too close; echoes of heavy footsteps reveal the presence of a larger predator hunting in the region; and heavy seismic activity from the mountainside warn of Mount Ragnarök’s impending fiery wrath. With time running out, the group must reach the main campsite and commandeer a spacecraft, or else perish in the hellish fires of Mount Ragnarök.

Non Stop Action!! The Most FUN book I read in a long time!

Wow! This story was truly non stop action! It gripped me from the very beginning and most certainly didn't let go. I stayed up until 1 am reading until I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer and had to call it quits....only to start reading again when I woke up this morning. I guess a dinosaur - giant wasp story is a very odd thing to be reading on Christmas Eve - and with a super volcano ready to blow at any moment there is not a drop of snow anywhere in sight!

So this story has lots to offer. There are military men with lots of weapons, some other military men led by a nasty woman who is the enemy. That part of the story actually reminded me of Star Wars. There was the snappy phrases from Star Wars too and calling people "kid". Of course if you ask me both of these two separate military teams have some bad brain power for having their battle right on top of a rumbling super volcano! But hey, the fate of the galaxy is at stake due to the bad guys mining some dangerous minerals. Lots of guns, explosives, running, screaming, guts getting ripped out, etc. Its non stop creature action!

Of course there are the creatures too! The wasps I think were a bigger threat in here than the dinosaurs. And yes there are raptors too. Plus a few other neat surprises I will not mention. Loads of fun! This was definitely the most fun book I read in a long time. Basically its one life threatening situation after another and you wonder how in the world they will get out of it.

My favorite character in here turned out to be one of the civilians. He is quite the coward. As he is a mechanic and good at fixing tech but battling huge man eating creatures is definitely not his thing. But I like that he takes on his fears. And changes. he definitely was the most interesting person in the story. I guess we are supposed to be rooting for the commander but truthfully he didn't interest me at all. I mean he was in his element with the battles.

There was something at the end I didn't exactly like. The one big battle. I suppose most people love it - its what they are reading for - but I just think it makes the creatures look stupid. And animals are certainly not stupid. I guess I am saying I prefer a smart creature over a stupid one. I mean what creature is going to be fighting a battle when a volcano is dumping burning lava rocks and ash from the sky?! Ummm....yeah.

Plus a towering mountain is NOT a super volcano! A super volcano looks like a huge valley or a lake. Look at Yellowstone or Camping Flegrei or Lake Tapoe. They are not giant cone shaped mountains. I guess the volcano in here is more along the lines of Vesuvius that had wiped out Pompeii so it is probably a stratovolcano. Of course I suppose it could be connected to one underground.

Great fun story!!

Review of this book.

A really good book. Good luck to our astronauts! This book had everything that I could ask for. Excellent writing. There were monsters, villains, heroes, and mayhem. Who could ask for anything more? The story kept the reader interested and wanting to read and find put how it ended. Fast paced and no grammatical errors. The perfect balance of action and the calm before the storm! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes this genre.

Mount Ragnarok

The action in this book was almost non stopping. The characters were well written. The rivalry between the two animal factions was amazing. So many twists and turns in seeing who will make it and how. The pulling of the trigger in one case was ever so doubtful, but I won't give it away. Would have given it a five except for the cursing.

Great book

I really liked this book. It was fast paced and had tons of action. Wasps, dinosaurs, and even a volcano thrown in for fun! The descriptions of everything brought life to the story. I couldn't read it fast enough, but didn't want it to end either. But end it did, with me at the edge of my seat hoping things work out. I totally recommend this book and this author!

The book has its audience, perhaps a younger crowd. It's fine, but hard to care for anyone in the story since they are not introduced. You are caught flatfooted right from the start and its difficult to find your bearings in the story. Its full on action, ADHD. Audiobook read is good.

Sent to apprehend Natalie Lyster, Commander Tucker Greyson's mission soon falls apart, as he and his team are stranded on a planet with a volcano ready to go supernova. That's the good part, it is also fall of enemy combatants, giant wasps and dinosaurs. Good book that moves at a fast pace.

Lots of action, yet the book is somehow able to make all that action boring.

I’m a huge fan of this author! I’m also a huge fan of dinosaur horror action. However, the main thing that drew me to Mount Ranarok is the audiobook’s narrator is Matt Godfrey. I love his voice work. He has such a great voice.

Matt does a great job here. He perfectly captures the gritty, harden solider. He also nails the frantic civilian caught between soldiers and the alien creatures. Matt has a great range with deep tones or higher pitches. He is believable with female voices as well. 🙂

Let’s talk plot! Rogue ex-soldier on a path of revenge, a group of soldiers out to track her down, a planet with a super volcano about to blow it’s top, and alien dinosaurs. Did you hear me? Alien. Dinosaurs. YESSSS! I am sooooo down to party with alien dinos. 😀

The dinosaurs were not the only crazy creature the humans had to deal with. There were also BIG murder wasps the size of cars! Man, these bugs are nasty! So gross. It…. was….AWESOME. 😀 Felt like a nice nod to Godzilla vs Mothra at the end when the big dino faces off against the queen wasp. What a battle!!

Mount Ragnarok is everything you could ask for in a story. The pacing is perfect. The soldiers get in, take care of business, and get out. Very brief set up. We do not dally. Throw in space dinosaurs and killer wasps and you have an epic creature feature action horror scifi showdown!

Once again this author comes through with a fun monster story. He really is currently one of the best at creature horror. 😀 Matt Godfrey is quickly becoming one of my fave. narrators and his talent helped bring these characters to life. The plot is quick and entertaining. Mount Ragnarok is an absolute joy to read. I had so much fun, I am a little bummed it isn’t a series. I totally wanted to visit this universe and these characters again. 🙂
