Wonderfully structured and comprehensive manual for self-learners, with detailed explanations on grammar and usage.

However, some crucial explanations are sometimes missing, and exercises often include vocabulary that hasn’t been taught - which is discouraging for new learners.

That said, the book provides an incredibly accessible guide to learning Bahasa Indonesia from scratch. The only major downside is that it’s quite outdated (my version was reprinted with corrections in 1996), which inevitably leads to some inaccuracies compared to current day Indonesian - a language that colloquially changes every day.

A great language resource. My favorite of the handful of Bahasa Indonesia books I've used.
