Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Lara’s heart is shattered when she learns her husband, Asher, has been carrying out a deplorable affair. The once-perfect marriage is now in disrepair, as Asher carelessly tosses it away for the lure of a new relationship. Lara’s attempts to win back her husband are pathetic and go widely unnoticed by Asher, who becomes increasingly distant the more wrapped up he gets in this other woman.

What can Lara do? She will not step aside and let this repulsive tryst happen right under her nose. No, Asher has wildly underestimated Lara; he has yet to learn what she is capable of. If Lara cannot have him, neither will anyone else. Asher has made a grave mistake deceiving Lara; he’s playing with fire, and her dear old husband is about to get burned. Lara will make it her mission to see that he suffers for his sordid transgressions.

“Two Seconds Later” by Tina Griffith is an absorbing novel that delves into the perils of a strained marriage. Readers will be fully invested as the protagonist’s sanity unravels. Lara becomes increasingly unhinged as she swallows the bitter taste of her husband’s infidelity. Wavering between melancholy and fury, Lara embodies the role of a scorned wife—one that readers will root for and simultaneously loathe. Themes of love and revenge are tightly woven into the narration.

The novel is written unconventionally. Instead of applying an active voice and linear storyline, Griffith’s story consists mainly of flashbacks, particularly in the book’s first half, enabling readers to fill in the blanks and learn character backstories. The second half reads more like a thriller, remaining in the present. Griffith tackles the third-person narrative, primarily focusing on Lara, but also weaves in Asher and his mistress’s point of view for added dimension. Adding Asher’s perspective allowed readers to witness his and Linda’s relationship grow organically, which softened the edges of his harsh betrayal. At times, I felt pity for the philandering fool because he had no idea how diabolical a jealous spouse could be.

Like the scene of a train wreck, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from Lara’s plummeting sanity. The author did an excellent job illustrating the war that was raging inside the forlorn woman. She was deeply conflicted. On the one hand, the fond memories of Asher seemed to soothe her anger. On the other hand, the constant reminder of his betrayal appeared to feed the formidable beast, causing the irrationality to outwit her sense of control. Some of the scenes are graphic but deftly showcase the depths of Lara’s mental instability, which will have readers questioning how well they know their spouses.

Overall, Tina Giffith’s “Two Seconds Later” is enjoyable for readers who love romantic fiction with thrilling and psychological elements. Griffith skillfully explores the deconstruction of a seemingly perfect marriage as infidelity rears its ugly head. The lengthy novel will appeal to those who are okay with a slower pace and thrive on thorough character development, deep thoughts, and soliloquy.

Tina Griffith writes a thrilling and inviting tale with Two Seconds Later

In Two Seconds Later, the reader is introduced to Lara and Asher. Lara is an interesting character, and starts out being broken and meek. She's been married for ten years to Asher, and she just discovered he was having an affair. There starts her breaking, but then something inside her changes. I haven't read anything by this author before, and what a hidden gem. I enjoyed it so much, that I have now followed the author and look for more books to read. I look forward to reading more from this author. Tina Griffith has a grand imagination, and talent for showing the story. Lara is tired of begging for Asher to stay, and have her be the only one in her life. She thinks that she still loves him, and deep down he loves her, but she is so wrong. Asher likes humiliating her and laughs at her pleas. Lara's fury comes alive, and to the surface, and she is bent on making Asher pay, and pay, and pay. Lara is one of those characters that comes out of her shell, and becomes strong and powerful, and focused. Her focus is on one thing. This story is a wondrous trail of words. The plot is a great emotional rollercoaster. The author's technique of raw, magnetic characters and great plotlines is a gift. Whatever this author writes, I want to read. So, the question are, is Lara in the right, or wrong, or has she just snapped. Two Seconds Later is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. Oh My Gosh, I started this book at 12 noon and did not put it down until 8:30. The best book I have read in a year. I loved the characters and the story line kept you guessing. I kept thinking I would make Asher pay if I were Lara and boy did she. Linda ended up having a happy ending. So fitting what happened to Asher!! Lara gets to keep him after all.
