She’s modern royalty. He’s a laid-back surfer living that endless summer lifestyle. When these high school sweethearts reunite to renovate a house, it’ll get a second chance, but will they?
Dee Dee While visiting the West Coast for my cousin’s wedding, I take a detour down memory lane, arriving in the small beach town where I spent my senior year of high school. All those years ago I pretended to be the girl next door instead of a Barclay—yes, the billionaire royal family. Flash forward to now, falling asleep in the sand wasn’t part of my half-baked pit stop. Neither was waking up in the lifeguard’s strong, capable arms.
Sunny When I left for dawn patrol this morning, finding the one who got away on the beach was the last thing I expected. I’m not sure what shocks her more, the rundown state of her late grandmother’s house or that I live in the guest cottage. But I am surprised when she extends her stay and asks me to help her spruce up the place to avoid her impending arranged marriage.
As feelings heat up under the sun, we question whether our past love story was just a nostalgic page from the yearbook. Will our mismatched romance become more than a summer fling?
Book 1 in the SoCal Summer Kisses series is a second chance, snack size short read that will leave you satisfied with all the swoony kisses and a HEA but none of the steam or cliffhangers.

Synopsis: Dee Dee While visiting the West Coast for my cousin’s wedding, I take a detour down memory lane, arriving in the small beach town where I spent my senior year of high school.
My Thoughts: This is the first book in the SoCal Summer Kisses series. This was a quick, sweet second chance romance. Dee Dee lived with her grandmother while finishing out her high school years. It was the best year(s) of her life, when she had choices, and was able to be a carefree teen. Afterwards, she had to return to her mother, her royal responsibilities, where every second of her life was dictated. Where she had to leave the love of her life, Sunny. Now she is set to marry (arranged by their parents) to man she does not want to marry, who would not treat her with respect, or even be kind to her. She is currently at her cousin’s wedding when she finds out that her grandmother left her the cottage/house. She then decides to runaway, just for a little while. She then bumps into Sunny. She decides to stay there, fix up her grandmother’s place, and in the interim, she reconnects with Sunny. This follows the tropes of royalty romance, second chance romance, surfer romance, and opposites attract.
The story is narrated by our heroine protagonist, DeeDee, and our hero, Sunny, in their respective perspectives. Dee Dee is sunny, intelligent, and does not want to marry in the arranged marriage, or have every second of her day planned in royal responsibilities. Sunny is a surfer through and through. He is laid-back, caring, and absolutely swoony. He believes in endless summer, partly from the time he spent with Dee Dee before she left to return to the royal family. The connection was immediate. The characters were created with compassion, witty banter, chemistry, and were intriguing. The author’s writing style was closed door, clean, endearing, funny, swoony, and just beautiful. One of my favorite things from the story was popsicles.
This is the perfect beach read, or even a cleansing read after a heavier book. I finished in a few days. Even though it was short, it did not fall short, it was swoony, sweet, endearing, loving, and just beautiful. While this was meant to be a short novella, I could see this being a full novel, we could have seen their before and after relationship blooming. However, since they were high school sweethearts, the short timeline of reconnecting actually worked well. This is my first Ellie Hall book and now I am hooked! I would absolutely recommend this book to other readers. Available on KU.
Royal + Surfer romance!? This was the combination that I didn't know I needed--- but absolutely found myself adoring! Sunny and Dee Dee were high school sweethearts who had not seen each other since... but when she needs a moment of escape from her royal responsibilities and finds herself on the beach where he works as a lifeguard, all those old feeling seem to come rushing back... and I adored every minute of it. Their reintroduction was so fun and had me laughing, but their chemistry was really what I adored the most. This is a super quick read--- easily read in just one brief sitting. With being such a short read, having that history of being high school sweethearts really helped to make that quick timeline feel more believable. I absolutely would have loved to spend more time with these two, as they were really fun characters whom I enjoyed getting to know, but I also didn't feel like anything was missing either. This was truly the perfect short and sweet summer romance to fit into these busy summer months. This is the first book in the SoCal summer kisses series and very much has me looking forward to the rest.
We Go Together is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
“We were such opposites.” “But that didn’t stop us from becoming prom king and queen. My one shot at royalty.”
In a very short and sweet second chance story, laid-back surfer Sunny and modern royal Dee Dee get another chance at love and this is the perfect summer snack to devour on a hot afternoon. Of course, I would love more details, because that’s just how I am, but I felt satisfied and really enjoyed this fun coastal novella.
This author does it again with a sweet plot and entertaining opposites characters. Many thanks to the author for the review copy.
Content: kisses
*I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given*
For a novella, it’s good. It was more about a reunion of a relationship than the building of one.
Duchess Diana is in SoCal for a wedding and ends up escaping to head to the beach, where she falls asleep. She’s awakened hours later by lifeguard, and long time ago boyfriend, Sunny. She finds out he’s been living in her Grand-meres house and the rest is love at fixer upper.
This title will make Grease stuck in my head all day. There are worse things haha
I think this is my first Ellie Hall book! Ive always admired her cute covers but ive never found time to read them. This is a great one to start with, a sweet, snack size novella, and a perfect summer read.
If you like beach bums, royalty, second chances, and popsicles, check this one out!
A heartwarming beach read with sweet romance and second chances. This is a fun easy novella with adorable characters and a cute storyline. I loved this wonderful, entertaining and well written book.
I loved this one! Dee Dee & Sunny’s second chance was such a sweet, bite-sized novella💕. Loved that Dee Dee was able to find herself and that they were able to reconnect🥰.
Dee Dee wants to give up her royal title and live a quiet life on the California coast. When she rekindles her friendship (and more) with a guy from her past, the decision becomes even easier.
We Go Together is the first book in the SoCal Summer Kisses series. At under a 100 pages, this sweet, summery romance is perfect for a single sitting read. It can be read as a stand-alone.
There’s a lot of beach read vibes packed into such a short book. The storyline is full even without extensive background material. I like that Dee Dee was already going to pass off her title at the beginning of the book rather than abandoning it to be with a man. I hope we get to see more of the MCs' story throughout the rest of the series.
We Go Together is a quick little sweet treat of a novella. I can’t wait to read the other two books in the series soon. I think I may need to make some popsicles first. IYKYK.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A short and sweet novella you can binge in a day visit to the beach or pool!
This was an endearing second chance romance between high school sweethearts — a laid-back surfer + modern royalty, thrown back together after years apart by the FMC’s Gran-mere playing matchmaker beyond the grave.
When these high school sweethearts reunite to renovate a house, it'll get a second chance, but will they?
While visiting the West Coast for her cousin's wedding, Dee Dee takes a detour down memory lane, arriving in the small beach town where she spent her senior year of high school and the same place she left her first love, Sunny, all those years ago. Exhausted and jet lagged, Dee Dee falls asleep on the beach where a lifeguard wakes her and realizes she is the one who got away.
Then, a letter given to her first love, Sunny, by Dee Dee’s late Grand-mere tells Dee Dee the rundown house that used to be her Grand-mere’s is now hers. Dee Dee’s not sure what shocks her more, the rundown state of her late grandmother's house or that her love lost is living in the guest cottage.
To avoid her impending arranged royal marriage, Dee Dee decides to stay and fix up her Grand-mere’s house with the help of Sunny.
As feelings heat up under the sun, they question whether their past love story was just a nostalgic page from the yearbook. Will their mismatched romance become more than a summer fling?
Book 1 in the SoCal Summer Kisses series is a second chance, snack size short read that will leave you satisfied with all the swoony kisses and a HEA but none of the steam or cliffhangers.
Thank you to the author for the ARC. I’m looking forward to reading the next books in the series!
Modern day royalty living incognito for a year of high school at her grandmother’s insistence, to have a ‘normal person’ experience.
A laid back surfer living an endless summer life, and content to keep it that way.
They fall in love in HS, but have a hard breakup when she goes back to her country and royal life. 10 yrs later- they have a surprise meet-up, but she’s engaged to another of her mother’s choosing, and he’s not sure he would risk his heart again. Could circumstances and close proximity soften their hearts and give them a 2nd chance?
This novella is part 1 of a 3 book series, SoCal Summer Kisses, by Ellie Hall. One will be released every other week for you to enjoy.
If you like closed door, HEA romance stories, fast paced novellas, beaches and surfing, 2nd chances at love, you’ll enjoy this quick read.
“I haven’t asked myself what I want since high school. My assistant supplies me with superficial distractions but they aren’t what I truly need.”
“Be sure and prune your life, otherwise, the outside will start to creep in and that leads to bitterness, resentment, and ugliness.” Grand-mere
“Through the window, the stars sparkling in the sky, making the ocean glitter, remind me of when Gran-mere told me the blessings we receive- often not even realizing it- are more numerous than the stars, so remember to count them and give thanks.”
– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Dee Dee (Diana) & Sunny’s points of view
– it is mentioned that Diana’s fiance is known to be unfaithful
Review:
If you need a very quick & sweet read, this book is the perfect length & story for it! I loved getting to read this second chance romance and getting to know our main characters. I was glad that Diana’s grandmother made plans to be able to help Diana realize/choose the life she wanted over the one she was being forced into. And I loved that her grandmother had the forethought to include Sunny in the plans and kept him close. These two were adorable & I can’t wait to find out what happens with their friends’ romances in the next two stories!
Summary:
Diana is about to have every inch of her life moving forward in the direction of her mother’s plans. So when a chance comes to get away from it all, Diana runs to the one place she can remember being happy: her grand-mere’s home in Palisade Shores, California. And there, Diana finds an unexpected blast from the past in the form of Sunny, the man she never forgot…
Sunny never thought he’d see Diana again, not when it’s all over the news that she’s on her way to being the royal adjacent that she grew up as. But when she unexpectedly shows up in Palisade Shores, he finds himself hoping that this might be their chance to try again. If Diana’s willing to follow what she wants instead of fulfilling the arranged marriage her mother set up for her…
I loved everything about this story. The length of the book was short but complete. I liked that I could sit down and read it in one sitting. I loved the characters and how they got an unexpected second chance to be together. Dee Dee and Sunny were so different but they had made a deep connection when she spent a year living with her grandmother and going to HS. They wanted a happy ending to their HS romance but he knew the reality of their differences, she was modern royalty and he was a laid-back surfer. So Sunny broke up with her. But he never forgot her and she never forgot him.
When Dee Dee comes back to the area ten years later to be a bridesmaid in her cousin's wedding, she wants a release from the plans her mother has forced her into. The marriage to a man she doesn't even like and her role as a modern royal member are choking her. When she finds out that her mother never told her that her grandmother left her the house she spent that special year in, she needs to do something drastic. Stealing a car to drive to the beach, falling asleep in the sun and getting a bad sunburn and waking up to see her former boyfriend Sunny is just the start of her rebelling against her mother's plans.
Will Dee Dee fight for the love that was denied her years before or will she go along with the plans of her mother?
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
This was a cute two-bite brownie of a story. (In other words, a short novella.) It is a second chance romance based off of Grease. Full disclosure: I dislike Grease (I’ll save you from my soapbox, lol), but this story I can get behind. I really enjoyed this book. A duchess from Concordia, Diana (aka Dee Dee), returned to California for her cousin’s wedding. Dee Dee had spent a year of high school living with her grandmother in a nearby California small town. She was burdened by an upcoming arranged marriage and other expectations. “Decisions are not my own - not what I do with my time, who I spend it with, or what my day looks like.” So she escaped for a break and ended up crossing paths with her first love and high school boyfriend, Sunny. This only heightened the questions of what she wanted and what she was willing to sacrifice. The characters were fun and endearing. The romance was very sweet. This is a closed door romance with no harsh language.
Sunny and DeeDee, high school lovers, he's a surfer she's royalty, she had to leave to go be Duchess. Sounds like a fairy tale right?!? They never imagined seeing each other again living in separate worlds, until a wedding brings her back to SoCal! Through a series of events they meet and she discovers some news that changes everything for her! You will have to read to find out what and how 🥰
This was a fun, summery, beach read. It was a very quick read, perfect for an afternoon on the beach! I enjoyed the characters reconnection and the thing that rekindled their love ❤️ definetly give this novella a read if your in the mood for something beachy, happy and short!
We Go Together ~ SoCal Summer Kisses #1 by Ellie Hall
PUBLISHER DESCRIPTION She’s modern royalty. He’s a laid-back surfer living that endless summer lifestyle. When these high school sweethearts reunite to renovate a house, it’ll get a second chance, but will they?
A wonderful short story from Ellie, I found this book easy to read with wonderful likeable characters. The storyline worked well and was easy to follow. Here we have Dee Dee and Sunny they met during high school when Dee Dee came to stay with her grandmother for the year.
We Go Together is a great read and quite exciting, I couldn’t put it down, love all the characters they really jump at you from the page, fab book I'm looking forward to reading the next two in the series. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Easy-to-readEntertainingHappily Ever AfterOriginalPage-turnerRomanticRealisticWonderful characters
Sweet second chance romance story. Diane is a duchess who is given a chance to experience the common life when her grandmother invites her to live in Southern California for her senior year of high school. Diane experiences so much more because she fell in love with her high school sweetheart. But he left her so she could return to royal life in Concordia. She has now come back about ten years later to represent her family at her cousin’s wedding. Her mother has arranged a marriage for her to someone she loathes. Diana finds out some startling news and actually runs away…to experience the beach one last time. That is where Sunny finds her. When they reunite, the old memories flood back. Will they just have a sweet summer together or will they give in to the forever love they once experienced?
A perfect, short, sweet summer read. Such a fun light read that’s perfect for a busy summer. DeeDee is a duchess but life isn’t that great. She’s facing a marriage, arranged by her mother, to a man she has only met briefly twice and that was enough to know she didn’t want to marry him. And now she’s back in California, where she spent her senior year, for a cousin’s wedding. California, the place where she had been allowed to be herself and she wants that back. A quick escape and she soon finds herself in the presence of the boyfriend, Sunny, she left behind years ago. Will their attraction rekindle or will DeeDee and Sunny go their separate ways once more? I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
This was such a short and sweet beachy little rom com! I loved that it wasn't long but you got so much in such a short story!
Dee Dee and Sunny were meant for each other but unfortunately didn't realize it until much later. But with wisdom comes clarity and Dee Dee and Sunny were able to see where they were able to grow and mature.
Dee Dee was able to see where she wanted to be in her life away from Concordia and her mother's wants in her life. Sunny knew his mistake after she left. He just didn't know he would ever be able to right his wrong 9 years later.
I loved these two together. They were perfect together. I loved that they were willing to go the extra mile for each other that they weren't able to when they were younger!
What do a duchess and a surfer/lifeguard have in common? Nothing except one swoony summer from the past that neither one has ever forgotten.
Sunny and Dee Dee are the perfect pair, but her royal title has gotten in the way. Dee Dee is not happy with her royal duties and future husband being forced on her, so she runs away from a wedding. Instead of runway bride, she is a runaway bridesmaid.
Dee Dee is a little felonious in her escape and does not seem to care that she has on a bridesmaid dress when she goes to the beach. When Sunny rescues her, it is obvious this was divine intervention.
Sweetness is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this sweet short story and how everything came together for this sweet couple.
This is book one in the SoCal Summer Kisses series.
We Go Together is a short, sweet novella.
This is the story of a second chance romance between two high school sweethearts. Dee-Dee ( Duchess Diana) and Sunny were high school sweethearts. Dee-Dee attends her cousin’s wedding in SoCal but is unhappy about her pending marriage and royal duties. Sunny has never forgotten about her.
Dee-Dee escapes to her late Grand-mere’s house where Sunny is renting the cottage. As much as they are mismatched, will it be more than a summer fling?
This HEA is heartwarming and a perfect summer read!
Royalty Diana is feeling trapped by the wedding she’s in and the one that is arranged for when she runs and ends up having to be rescued by her lifeguard ex Sunny. Her grandmother sounds like a wonderful person who liked to create fun popsicles I wouldn’t mind trying. She left Diana a chance at a different life with the house where she spends the summer reconnecting with Sunny. There wasn’t a lot of drama except for the running away and I was surprised her mother didn’t make things more difficult for her. This was a short kisses only second chance romance.
Such a cute summery beach vibe short story! Perfect length to engage in Dee Dee and Sunny’s second chance romance. I loved Dee Dee’s daring personality and bravery as she decided it was time to stop being a pleaser and do what she wanted to do with her life. Sunny and his apology in being the reason for breaking their hearts almost ten years ago. Dee Dee’s shenanigans were hilarious and still was topped off with sweet and fitting kisses for these two! Definitely put this on your TBR list! Thank you @elliehallauthor for the arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fun story! This is Sunny and Dee Dee’s second chance story. This is a perfect summer read. The story is light, sweet and so much fun. Dee Dee is royalty and spent her senior year in SoCal where she fell in love with Sunny. He is always looking for the perfect wave and fell in love with her too, but was scared of their lifestyle differences. She is back and trying to escape her mother and the responsibility of her role as Duchess. She gets a backbone and doesn’t hold back with Sunny. She finally stands up for herself to get what she wants. It was a really great story, I loved these characters!
We Go Together by Ellie Hall is the first in a series but can be read as a standalone. If you're like me, summer is always busy and reading can get harder around this time of year so I’m loving all the novella’s that have come out this summer. This was the perfect beach read with cute characters and a perfect setting. It made me want to be at the beach. It also made me want to watch the movie Endless Summer which I don’t think I have ever seen. Sunny and Dee were so cute and it gave me the feel of an oldies movie. I just loved this cute story and can’t wait for the next one. If you like opposites attract, second chance, royal romance, cute lifeguards, & popsicles go grab yourself a copy.
Dee Dee escapes her royal duties for the California beach where she spent her senior year of high school and fell in love a decade ago. Can she find herself and the love of her life again? This book checks all the boxes: ✔️Sweet, short, summer time read ✔️The Princess Diaries and Blue Crush movie vibes ✔️Second chance, closed door romance ✔️No cliffhangers ✔️Swoony kisses and a happily ever after
Thank you to the author and @wordnerdauthorservices for an advanced copy.
This short and sweet summer romance had me wanting more and to go make home made popsicles. This is the perfect beach or poolside read for those in love with Concordia, or the princess lifestyle or rather just living in their dreams. Ellie has a great way of pulling readers in and connecting the characters that makes these sweet stories all tie together. Make sure to check out the other books in the series to keep the story going!
