True North #1

Finding Home: Livie and Jake

Rate this book
"When you're lost... True North"
The North brothers were hell on wheels-adrenaline-junky bad boys. You’d think they had a death wish – every one of them – but they didn’t really, they just got off on the thrill of pushing every limit, that gravity or any other force told them they couldn’t conquer. What they weren't prepared for were the women that would steal their hearts.

Book 1 True North Finding Home Livie and Jake

Livie Morrisey is dreading seeing Jake after his heroic homecoming from Afghanistan. She's been in love with Jake North since she was a little girl, but he was three-and-a-half years older than her and her big brother’s best friend. She was always nothing but the off-limits little sister – until the night before Jake left for the Army, when he'd given her her first kiss. They'd kept in touch for a year, but once Jake was deployed to Afghanistan, he'd cut off contact suddenly and she'd never heard from him again. For the past three years Livie has kept herself distracted with homework and her university studies, but now Jake's going to be up close and personal. And Livie can’t decide if tonight's finally the night to prove to Jake she’s all grown up or the night she should let him go forever.

The premise of the story drew me in.

The beginning was good... and then it went from NA/Adult to... pretty much YA with immature characters who should be in high school rather than a college girl and mature military man.

The character development fell so flat. I was really disappointed. The immaturity and naivety... all the screaming and jumping around and the squeals because he paid attention to you? Ugh. No, thank you.

It just didn't fit with the back story for me. When I envision a child going through some tough times in life such as neglectful or emotional abusive parents, they are more withdrawn or more mature... maybe more cautious in life? Not so naive, and not so more in line with what a dim-witted 18 year old girl would be.

Those who have seen things due to war, I would think they'd have more of a hard edge to them and not so much a "man-boy" type of image/character.

Again, those are what I envision. My perception of things. Stereotypical I would suppose so to each their own. But I am disappointed. Sad. Overall, it was okay, but was expecting better.

*** ARC given by author in exchange for review***

I Absolutely LOVED this book! There was so much in this book. It had love, drama, angst, and It touched on real life effects of PTSD. I couldn't put the book down! I was completely wrapped up in it!

Jake and Livie grew up together.  Jake was her older brothers best friend and Livie was Jake's little sisters best friend. Jake has 6 other brothers where as Livie just has one older brother. Livie has had a huge crush on Jake since she was little. When he would stay over at her house Jake would sneak in her room at night when everyone was asleep and they would stay up just talking and hanging out.  Jake and Livie had a special bond. Jake is several years older than Livie and was about to head to the army. Livie doesn't want him to go and fears the worse. Jake gives Livie a gift before he leaves and tells Livie he will miss her the most.

"Promise me you won't forget me, Livie?"

"I could never forget you."

That was 4 years ago since Livie has seen Jake and almost three since she heard from him.

Livie is heading home from college for the weekend to welcome Jake home.

Shes not sure whether to be pissed off at him, or just happy he made it home.

He shattered her heart when she stop hearing from him and was scared he would be coming home with girlfriend or wife. But the Jake that came home was not the same Jake that left!

This part of the book was just heartbreaking! You experience what a soldier does and how they feel with PTSD. It makes it even sadder because this stuff happens all the time and I can't imagine how hard it is living with it or seeing a loved one go through it. Livie was amazingly strong for Jake. She stood by him and loved him through he darkest times!

She really was Jake's saving Grace!

What I loved about this book is Livie is a strong heroine. She didn't have the best up bringing with a mother who left and an alcoholic father but she never gave up on her first love! She knew what she wanted and would fight for it! I absolutely loved Jake too! He loved Livie with his whole heart but he's so afraid he can't be the man she needs!

You just want to help him so much and see him happy!

"Today was my best day yet, because it was all about you. But Livie, you need to know - sometimes it gets really bad. I want you so much- so fucking much - but I need you to understand I'm scarred and I don't know how I will ever heal or if I ever will."

Their physical connection was hot as well! In the bedroom their body and soul connects and they were as one! Their love story will make you smile and show you how couples overcome obstacles in their relationship and NEVER give up!

It's very hard to put I to words how much I Loved this book! From romance to grab a Kleenex, the book was amazing! All the characters are so interesting and you want to know more about them as well! And we will! In this book you see other connections with characters and you get an idea of what's to come!

I can't wait! Allie Juliette Mousseau's writing was beautiful and this story captured me!

I can't wait to read more of the North Boys!!

This book touched a special place in my heart. My nephew, also named Jake, is also in the Army, and is currently over in Afghanistan. From what I know, he's on base, not out fighting like Jake was, but I have yet to meet a person in any branch of the US Military, my father was in the Marines, who came home without PTSD. It's so frustrating how we Americans, both Civilian and Military alike, treat our soldiers when they return. My Dad waited years before he got his Vet Benefits and help treating his PTSD. Like Jake, he couldn't sleep without having nightmares, and as a Vietnam Vet, never slept more than two hours straight. Something they were apparently trained to do at the time. He was in the Marines for 28 months, but suffered for what...40 years? He only had his benefits for the last 5-10 years of that.
Back to the book, I loved it. Both Jake and Livie suffered so much during this book, but their love was so strong. I can only hope that if my nephew does come back like Livie's Jake, that he finds a woman who can help him the way Livie helped Jake. The healing trip they took was amazing, but to go into too much detail would spoil the book. This is the second book I've read of Allie's, I think I loved this one more, but I've loved every book of hers that I've read, and I can't wait to read more. Especially the next book in this series. Not who I thought it would be about, but it still sounds like another book for me to love. Hopefully I'll get to read that one too, and tell you all about it in a future post!

4 Overcoming all Stars!

description

Finding Home tells the emotional and sweet story of Jake and Livie. Olivia Morrisey has loved her older brothers best friend, Jake North since she was 7 years old. Despite sharing a strong friendship over the years built on late night conversations and an ability to communicate with each other through music nothing romantic has ever actually occurred between them due to both the 3 year age gap and respect for her brother.

When Olivia is 15, a then 18 year old Jake signs up to join the military. The night before he leaves he gets Olivia alone and gives her necklace. He tells her that he has always loved her and that no matter where he is she will always have his heart. The pair share a beautiful first kiss that will be forever ingrained in both their minds and their hearts.

While Jake is deployed they remain in regular contact via letters, email and Skype for the first year but one day the communication stops all together leaving a heartbroken Livie wondering why.

After being gone for 4 years, Jake, now a town war hero returns home and the pair come face to face after 3 longs years of not speaking. From the moment their eyes meet across the crowd old sparks of desire and love re-ignite into an inferno. However, Liv soon realises that the Jake who left 4 years ago is not the same Jake that has returned home now. Plagued by demons, haunted by nightmares and carrying so much pain and disappointment Jake is falling apart. Is Livie's unconditional love enough to help him put the pieces back together and help find the man he is again?.

This was a beautiful story about first love and it's ability to transcend time and conquer all. It was sweet, emotional and thought provoking.

This book touches on the very real issue of PTSD and Mousseau manages to deliver it with emotion and sensitivity whilst still addressing some very important facts.

I really enjoyed the characters in this book, both primary and secondary. Liv was solid in her love for Jake and that love as well as her kindness and compassion radiated in everything she did.

Jake was a complex character, his love for Livie was undeniable but his pain was palpable. He carried so much emotional baggage that it was constantly threatening to drag him under. He was big, brave and strong but he also had a vulnerability you can't help but be drawn to.

The secondary characters in the book not only enhanced this story but also got under my skin enough that I am eager to read their stories, starting with Nate and Jules's story next - Finding Us .

For my first Mousseau book I was impressed and cannot wait to read more of her books!

~*~*~Refreshing, sweet, sexy and very surprising~*~*~

Well, well, well, Allie you made my day the moment I received this book, I know I’ve been bugging you for it! ;-) Now do not take lightly what I am going to say next; a while ago Crashed (from you know who) came out and no other book could keep me interested or exited afterwards. True North on the other hand kept me up until the early hours of the morning; I finished it in one sitting! Soon as I was done I told Allie about it and she informed me that I was the first person to read the book after her editor, I felt so honored! Be ready to read Livie and Jake’s story it’ll be one hell of a thrilling ride!!!

It is not your classic girl likes older brother best friend story, NO, they share a connection that goes so much deeper! Already from a young age Livie knows that she loves Jake and without the knowing of their friends and family they form a bond that’ll bind them for life. Now, you didn’t think their journey was going to be this easy did you?! ;-) The problem is that once Jake reaches the age of 18 he gets deployed overseas in Iraq – Yeah ladies, swoon away, he is an army man! – and he takes off for the next 4 years, leaving Livie behind. Before he leaves they share a moment together that’ll make their bond infinite. On and off for the first year, they write and talk to each other every single day – that is until something happens and Jake never speaks to Livie again for the next three years.

That brings us back to the present. In the mean while Livie started college but never seemed to get over Jake. On her way back home after her first month in college her best friend (Jake’s sister btw) informs her that he is back and she is expected to attend his welcome home party… That is where sparks will ignite and their fragile relationship takes their first steps into the future. I loved that party scene! She was such a freaking badass! :D Oooh and Jakey is such a tattooed, bad boy, alpha male – Swooning much already… A catch phrase that I made up yesterday that made Allie laugh – “Jakey, Jakey, eggs and bakey” – LMFAO!!! *Rolling over the ground laughing her ass of* xD

In the next following weeks their relationship will develop – a bumpy ride for sure – and secrets will come to the surface… What all that entails, you just going to have to read that for yourself! ;-)

That ending was so incredibly beautiful! I want MORE Allie, YOU GOT IT! ;-) Oh, and make sure you listen to the songs that accompanies each chapter – might me a little loud for some – but it fits their story perfectly!

I don't even know where to begin in explaining all that went into this book to make it so damn brilliant. It radiates with emotion and drama and angst but at the same time it is so profoundly moving in dealing with the very real and devastating effects of PTSD in soldiers and the repercussions of that disorder and the fall out effect it has on those around them.

Jake is the solider in this story and Livie is his shining beacon of hope in a world filled with darkness and pain. Their love story was nothing short of beautiful to read unfolding through each page and over each and every hurdle and there are som doozy's. Jake is magnificent in this story, your heart literally aches for him, all you want to do is take his demons away for him, heal him- much like our heroine Livie wants and attempts to do. She too was a terrific character- stunning, strong, unyielding in her life-long love for Jake no matter how dark it or he got and simply just a beautiful person inside and out. Even the secondary characters add something to True North, Jules, Nate, the North brood and Livie's alcoholic dad and absentee mother. There is so much love and emotion here as well as added spice and a great chemistry between the two main protagonists. (Loved the drinking game at the homecoming party! Hawwwwt.)

I really don't want to ruin the entire story for you but at one point when I thought one thing, something completely different and gobsmacking happened and I don't know if I was the only one who didn't see it coming, but holy hell! You'll know what I'm talking about once you read the italics and don't blame me if your Max Factor waterproof mascara becomes a black Max Factor waterfall down your cheeks, I forewarned you! If you're looking for a beautiful romance that packs an unbelievable wallop of angst, epic love and emotion, buy True North.

Allie Juliette Mousseau's writing is wonderful. She knows how to bring fun and laughter to a situation (A certain concert scene 'Now it's a party') but she can bring the seriousness just as well, and manages it all with such aplomb and understanding of the topic that you take a minute at the end of the book and think 'Shit, this is real-life. This happens every day.' That makes True North all the more poignant...
Definite Book Hangover material right here. Jake has just been added to my top ten book heroes of all time, and that's a damn selective list to be on. Great story, great writing, great characters...need I say more?

This is a bit of a moving journey for the characters in this book. Livie (Olivia) and Jake have had an attraction for years and because of the age difference they didn’t have an opportunity to explore it. I liked seeing the small glimpses into how they spent some secret time together before Jake made the decision to join the Army. Now that Jake is home, you can see that war has affected him. He is a little jumpy and his mood swings are out of character. The town is holding a welcome back party for Jake, and Livie is nervous about seeing him again. She has always kept him close to her heart, even though they haven’t had contact in some time.

I liked both the characters… Livie is a smart girl and is also very sweet. She sees the good in everyone and it was funny to see her sort her feelings out in her head only for the opposite words to come out. I think she wants to make a stand in some instances, but the opposite occurs! Jake has had it tough and is finding it hard to deal with everything that he has been through, but he knows it is a little easier with Livie around.

It was interesting to see the story unfold. It wasn’t easy for them to rekindle their relationship as it appeared Jake was giving mixed signals, but I soon came to realise he was struggling with fitting back into a normal life. I liked how Livie stepped up and helped him through the difficult times and was his back bone. But what I loved most was how Jake used music to express his feelings and I would’ve loved more of that!

There were also some great secondary characters introduced into this story. Jake’s brothers and his sister - Jules, in particular is Livie’s best friend and pushes Livie to put herself out there. Livie’s brother - Nate is great too and has always been there for Livie. These characters gave greater depth to the story and you can see how close they all are, like an extended family.

I liked how the author touched on a serious issue that effects people who serve their countries all over the world. It is astonishing to know what soldiers go through, only to be let down by their country in the end. I think she did a great job telling Jake and Livie’s story and I am keen to read more by her. Next on the plate is Nate and Jules book and I’m excited to see these two get together!!

I loved this story. It hit home for me as I have a family member that is suffering from PTSD. I have found myself smiling and crying when I was reading this book. Olivia has been in love with Jake for as long as she can remember. Jake was her older brothers best friend. And thought of her as nothing more or at least that's what she thought. Jake leaves to join the Army when Olivia is 15, and the night he leaves he kisses her for the first time. But after being going for four years and not hearing from him after three years. Olivia is dredging seeing him again at his welcome home party. Where she trys to get him to see her as a woman and not a little kid. Will she finally get to have Jake or will everything from his time in the Army be to much?

5 BEAUTIFUL & HEALING STAR THOUGHTS

Where do I even start? It has taken me a few days to gather my thoughts so I can even begin to write about how much I LOVED THIS STORY! I was captivated from the first chapter and never wanted it to end. I could personally connect with this story and that made it that much more intense. I devoured this book and finished it in one day, I just couldn't get enough! Allie has written a beautiful story and I am in love with True North!

Olivia (Livie) has always liked Jake. They have always been around each other since her older brother Nate, is Jake's best friend. And her best friend, Jules, is Jake's sister. But this isn't your typical in love with your brother's friend story. Because what everyone doesn't know is that Livie and Jake share a deep connection. They always have. But as much as Jake doesn't want to leave Livie, he feels like he has to. He just hopes she will still be here waiting for him.

"I hate leaving you, Livie, but this is something I need to do for too many reasons." ~Jake

"Remember what it means. My heart has always belonged to you. Think about me, Liv, and don't say goodbye." ~Jake

No more than a year after Jake left, he quit writing Livie. She was heartbroken and years later she is still but that is masked by anger. Although that is about to change now, because Jake North, the town hero, has returned home after 4 long years. Once she sees him, every old feeling she had comes flooding back. But she wants him to see that she has grown up. What she didn't plan for was for Jake to be so lost.

"Oh, Liv…if there was a way I could earn a place in your heart," he pleaded. "You're already in my heart," I promised. "You make me remember who I was and who I wanted to be." His mouth warmed my ear, tender but sensual. "Live, I lost that guy." "Let me help you find him."

War has a way of changing people. And Jake has lost who he used to be. But one look at Livie and he knows that she is still his everything. The road to finding himself is not going to be easy though and sometimes along the way you hurt those you love without even realizing it. PTSD is AWFUL! The anger, frustrations, nightmares, are terrible. But the inner turmoil of feeling alone can cause you to push people away without even realizing it. Jake would never intentionally hurt Livie, but he knows he will so he tries to stay away. And ends up hurting her anyway.

"I was used to being discarded by my mom and dad, but never thought it would happen with Jake. It shattered me…again." ~Livie

When Jake realizes he can't be away from Livie anymore, she is determined to help him find himself again. No matter how hard it gets, she will stick by him.

"When everything you think about the world and the people in it spins out of control, you have a couple of choices: run away with your tail tucked between your legs or hang the f*** on. I chose the latter."

Every step in the right direction is hard, but together they know they can survive anything. But how much is too much? Did the war change Jake too much? And sometimes the disaster that could destroy you is one you never saw coming.

"Livie, there's no going back once we cross this line," he reminded. "I don't want to go back to a world without you."

AHH! SO GOOD! This is a must read! Allie this is the beginning to what promises to be an amazing series of books! We met a lot of characters during Livie & Jake's story and I can't wait to get to know them each better! Start reading this book TODAY! You won't be disappointed! Beautiful Story!

"Tell me you're mine, Livie." "I'm yours, Jake. Forever. I'm yours."

Eeekkk! I LOVE Jake North! Is it possible to fangirl over a fictional character? Well, if it is, I am seriously doing so right now! He is so damn close to perfect it hurts. Hot sexy military man covered in tattoos. YUMMY!

Livie has been in love with Jake (Her best friends brother) since she was a little girl, but those feelings were never touched throughout the years since he was a few years older than her, and also her brother Nate's best friend. When she was 15, Jake left for the military. The night before he was to leave, things between them changed.

"I will see you again. I will kiss you again," he promised, and I noticed his eyes got watery just before he shut the door.

Four years later Jake returns to town. Four years since Livie last saw him; 3 since she last heard from him. With the chemistry at an all time high, can things between them pick up where they left off? One thing is for sure, they have one hell of a bumpy ride. Jake is not the same happy go lucky guy he was before he left. He has returned back with some deep rooted emotional scars which has you praying that he will be able to overcome the past few years and find his way back to the person he once was. The story of Livie and Jake is one which every little girl dreams of having for themselves.

"Jake, I know you, the guy you are, who you were, and the man you want to be. I'm not afraid of you or that scar."

Allie Juliette Mousseau did an exceptional job of portraying the emotions and fears of those suffering from PTSD. I cannot even begin to imagine what someone in the military must go through on a daily basis, let alone when they are at war. When I was finished reading the book, I almost felt as if I knew the characters in real life. They were completely down to earth and very lovable, and extremely easy to relate to on many levels. One of my favorite things in the story was how Jake used music to convey what he wanted to say and express emotionally to Livie. I am big into music, and every time a song was mentioned I was hearing it play out in my head as I read the scenes. There is only one word to describe Allie's writing and this story and that is BRILLIANT!

I will be sitting here anxiously awaiting the day when I am able to read the next book. I am dying to know what will come of Jules and Nate! Please please PLEASE tell me they will FINALLY get together! ARGH!!!!!!

Jake and Olivia have been crazy about each other since they were kids but never really said or did anything about that. He's @ 3 years older than her and that type of age different matters when you're 13 & 16...not so much at 19 & 22. Jake joins the Army after HS. He's looking to find himself and make his own mark on the world without relying on the family's wealth. He has no interest in taking over any portion of the family's businesses. I cannot begin to tell you how much respect I have for a man like that - even if he's a fictional character here. Liv is 15 when he leaves, but they share a special moment then and her first kiss the night before he leaves. The book starts at his welcome home party, and he's not the same person he was when he left. He's been to war and has carried home a lot of baggage with no one to help carry the load. Jake is so happy when he sees Liv, but he's having so many issues dealing with everything that he's experienced. They fight and make up. They fight again, she goes back to school and he vanishes. Of course he turns up and they talk and become the couple in life that they always were in their hearts. However, we've barely begun the book here. Let me tell you - what you will read after that is emotional, will tear you up, make you question a lot of things and make you believe that HEA's are always possible in life. There are several war scenes described. They are not full of gore to make you cringe, but they are written in a way that makes your heart bleed for every soldier involved. It's a glimpse into their day to day lives that is never discussed and would never be in the mainstream media. I admire the way the story was told and how the scenes were writtten. I have friends and family that have served in all branches at varying levels from Vietnam to Afghanistan. Allie does them all proud with the way she wrote the trials and tribulations Jake went through not only while serving, but the aftermath that ensued upon his discharge. I am honored to have read this book. Everyone should read this book - ESPECIALLY if you have loved ones that are or have served.

So there are these games Jake, Livie, and their friends play and Livie knows how to dominate that game:
"Describe the undergarments you're wearing right now." The guys in the audience whistled and the girls oohed. This one was kinda easy. "I'm not." Jake's eyes closed, and the corners of his mouth tugged up."
Jake does have some issues that he's battling with himself with but he tends to um... take his frustrations out on others, mainly Livie, "yes you are." he leaned over the table until we shared the same air, poised himself onto his fists and hissed into my face, "You're embarrassed yourself enough for one night. Don't go any further and make a spectacle of yourself." The look of anger on his face and his mocking tone hit me almost physically." I mean the next minute he's all over Livie being sweet, "eff fate." Jake twined his fingers between mine and lifted my hand to his lips." Sometimes embarrassing situations make for great conversations, "we'll talk about it late." I pushed him up a little and he deftly rolled off me and to a sitting position. He reached over me, grabbed my pillow and put it on his lap." And the boy just doesn't want birth control, "I reached over to the nightstand drawer and yanked out my little plastic case of daily birth control pills. "Eff those!" Jake smacked them out of my hand and they launched across the room. "Let's make a baby that looks just like you." I hope the next book is as entertaining as this one.

Book hangover alert right here...

What can I say about Jake and Oliver apart from wow. It's true love.

I was given a ARC to provide a honest review however after reading the first chapter I stopped. Why? Because I loved it that much I didn't want to taint my review, therefore I brought the book as soon as it was released and continued to read.

I read this book in one sitting, and I did have a hangover from this one. It made me feel lost, as I miss the feeling of being in love and going thru there story brought up these feeling for me. Allie brought these characters, to life right on the page and I felt every emotion.

This book is worth the read and I highly recommend it! 5 stars all the way!!!

Disclosure: This ebook was provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST and not necessarily positive review.

True North was a thoroughly enjoyable read. The characters were likable and most definitely easy to follow and cheer full.

The author, Allie Juliette Mousseau, is a skilled writer, who brings her story to life successfully on paper. Her writing is easy to follow and enjoy. The plot is a little similar to other reads I've inhaled over the last month, yet the author manages to bring her own personal style to True North.

Great book

Loved the story of both Olivia & Jake. Love that how even thought he went through a rough patch she never let him do it alone once they found their way to each other.

This review and many others can be found on my blog - Feed Your Fiction Addiction

Okay, I have to start by saying that this won't be a completely unbiased review and it's not going to be formatted like my typical reviews. Why? I edited this book and love the author to pieces, so it's hard for me to separate that from the book itself. In fact, normally I don't even like to review books I edit, but in this case I'm making an exception. Why? Because I think it's awesome and I want you all to read it!

True North: Finding Home centers on Livie, a nineteen year old girl who has been in love with her older brother's best friend, Jake, for as long as she can remember. When Jake went off to join the military, she was miserable, but her misery turned to broken-heartedness when he completely cut off all contact with her a year after he left. Even though she hasn't spoken to him for three years, Livie hasn't been able to forget Jake or to let her hopes for a relationship with him die. But when Jake returns home from Afghanistan, he comes home different - harder, angrier and somehow haunted. She doesn't know if the Jake she loved exists at all any more, or if he will allow her to even get close enough to him to find out.

The thing that separates this book from the typical NA fare is Jake's PTSD and how it's handled. Mousseau does a fantastic job of portraying the anger and heartbreak that often returns home with a soldier who returns from war. Livie and Jake's family struggle to understand what he's going through and he's too ashamed to tell them everything that's going on. His pain is palpable, and you can't help but ache for him and for Livie as she tries to navigate his complex issues and to help him in whatever ways she can.

True North: Finding Home highlights the resiliency of the human spirit, even in the darkest of circumstances and shows us that love and light can truly lead us home.

If you're a fan of NA romance, then you will LOVE this book!

I like this book... I didn't love it..
But, I liked it. To me it felt like something was just missing.
It also just seemed to rushed in certain parts. There was hardly any build up...
Maybe that's what was missing for me.
This book delt with a pretty big issue. & I wanted more details...

Jake & Olivia story was not a sweet little love story. They had to over come a lot to get their happy ever after.
Jake North is the middle child in his family. He felt like he had to prove himself to his family that he could make his own way in the world. So he joined the Army.
Professing his feelings to Olivia the day before he leave to the Army. Pretty much sets Olivia up from that day forward to never really giving her heart to any other guy.

Then....
We fast forward 4 years later to Jakes coming home party.

He pretty much cut everyone off. Without telling Olivia or his family why. While he was in Afganistan.

Jake seen to much bad stuff while in Afghanistan.
Jake had to over come a lot of his demains. He went to Afghanistan & came back a different person.

I just couldn't get over how he treated Olivia. Even with everything going on with him...it's pretty hard to swallow...He was a big Ass to her. I didn't like that at all...

I did like how the author dealt with that PTSD in this book. It seems so many of our men & women are coming back with it & need so much help coming back to civilian life. It's an adjustment.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the Finding Home series.

MY REVIEW
I adore Allie Juliette Mousseau and her writing style, she brings everyone of her characters to life with such great detail. Her plots draw you in and fill you with such emotion bringing the story to another level of enjoyment.
I have fallen in love with the North family and their extended family having read The Ink and Steel Brothers books, you just cannot wait to get your hands on the next family members story.
Olivia and Jake have shared a secret attraction over many years and the small glimpses we saw of how they spent time together in secret before Jake joined the army were beautiful.
I really enjoyed how the story unfolded with Jake and Olivia trying to restart their relationship, and im really glad they had to work at it, that Allie didnt make it a easy road for them, it made it so much more interesting.
Along their up hill struggle Livie really stepped up to push Jake through the hard times to help him overcome the serious issue many service people face when trying to fit back into the civilian mould.
Jake and Livie's story is one of those that proves true love is out there, they had young love, a separation and then that love was rekindled ten fold.

Jake and Livvie's story is a testament that true love exists, and it can stand the test of time. They fell in love while still very young, and held on to that love while Jake served in the army.

This is not the first book I read about people serving the army or the navy, but I always appreciate a good story about them. I firmly believe that every once in a while, we need to be reminded, in case we have forgotten, that there are real people out there going through the most horrific experience to keep us civilians safe.

Jake may have been dealing with PTSD in this story that can be brutal and so sad, but this is also a very sweet love story, and it's full of hope.. and it inspired me to say a silent prayer for people like Jake who unselfishly served his country and deserves support, understanding and a whole lot of respect.
5 interesting and drool-worthy North brothers ( one is a professional MMA fighter, yum!), I can see more books! And I'd like to see where life takes Nate ( Liv's brother) and Jules (Jake's sister and Liv's bff) too!

I absolutely LOVED this book! This is a great story of young love where life gets in the way, but the path back to each other is bitter sweet! I love the way that Allie created a story that sucked me in from the very first page and didn't let go of me to the very last sentence. She has a way of creating beautiful imagery and I could feel all the raw emotions in this story. There are some tough emotions in this book as well that deal with PTSD, but Allie handled them really well and created really real emotions. The sexual tension is this book is amazing and you feel all those first time love butterflies right along with the characters. Allie has an amazing start to a great series here and I cannot wait to see where the North family saga goes. Allie has moved up to one of my favorite authors!!

Wow, True North: Finding Home was an amazing read!! It hooked me right from, the beginning. True North: Finding Home is Livie and Jake's story. Livie likes Jake. Jake is friends with Livie's older brother Nate. Jake goes away to the military. Four years later he comes back and they meet up again. Jake is not the same as when he left but their love for each other is still there.

This is a great read. it has a lot going on in it. There is hints that Jake did not come back the same as he left but no one really knows why. He has to go through a lot of stuff but his and Livie's love is strong. This story shows how strong love can be.

I loved all of the North siblings. They all have their own unique quirks. i can't wait to get to know them better when their boos come out. Next we will get Sam's story in True North: Finding Now.

This book touches on some very real life issues that are difficult for some to read about. I believe it is also hard to accurately depict but I was pleased with how this author came about with dealing with it. This book is a love story but it allowed us into the world of war and how it affects those who fight for our country's freedom on a daily basis.

I loved this story from the beginning. We are allowed to see the characters before the events that made them who they are today. Before war changed Jake. It was a sweet story that was at times very gritty and also very sexy!! The author allows us to form attachments with all of the family so that we will want to read more about them. Which I do. I can not wait for more of Nate & Jules! Their story is going to rock my socks!

An amazing book with lots of emotions. Must read!!

What a joy

I love love love this book. The writing is superb & the heart is beautiful. It showcases the strength of love between two strong people & the positive outcome when two people put their strength, love & faith in each other to overcome life's curves. I am so impressed by the way Allie dealt with PTSD in such a positive way. It is a real problem along with soldier suicide that I have first hand knowledge of & it was handled with Grace & sensitivity. Read this book & fall in love with the Norths. You will carry a bit of them in your heart for a long time after you have read the last word.

I love stories were the girl falls in love with the brothers best friend, and this book didn't disappoint. I love it!!! The characters are all amazing and very likable, especially the North brothers they are so sexy. Each chapter is labeled a song and the music ties in the storyline perfectly. Having a brother in the military it was great to see a book raise awareness on PTSD and how common it affects are troops when they come back from war. Livie and Jake have a truly amazing story and you can't help but root for them!

This was an awesome surprise! I was not certain if it was going to feel too young to me but, it didn't. The characters made me feel warm. The aspect of familial connect to non bio family was a beautiful silver lining.

As well, I am a sucker for education about the life of our soldiers. I am happy to support an author who educates.

As far as the writing goes I loved the fact that the author chose to share less typical scenes with us. Instead if spending 4 chapters on them getting engaged or finding their perfect happy we get to see the other shades of their story...

We loved the whole prospect and storyline of this novel.
The love, heartache and passion between liv and Jake is unmistakable.
when Jake finally comes home after 3 long Years, I'm so glad they can pick up where they left off.
but being away in the army Jake has seen some horrific things.
Will it effect him in his every day life? Can liv pull him though all these bad memories.
This story had me in tears at how badly Jake had been treated an the things he had to witness.
I look forward to starting nates story

I started reading Dare (Brothers of Ink and Steel book 1) and halfway through I noticed that it didn't seem like the first book in a series, exactly. There were stories there that had already been told there. So I hopped on goodreads and noticed this series.

I'm glad I was brought to this series because honestly, Jake and Liv are perfect for each other. They've loved each other for ages but never really acted on it. Each of them has their demons and I totally loved how they supported and loved one another.
