Many years ago, Heather threw a coin into the old fountain and made a wish. She wished that the man of her dreams would come and sweep her away, far away from the home where she’d always felt ignored and unwanted. Now, she’s grown up, and she’s learned better. You can’t count on anybody to make your future better. You can only build it yourself.
And you especially can’t count on Cole Jackman.
It’s been nearly a decade since their tumultuous high school romance, but Heather can’t quite shake the memories. And when Cole stumbles back into her life, she learns that she still can’t control herself around him. But she’s no naive little girl anymore, and now, Heather sees something she missed before: Cole’s hiding a great big whopper of a secret. Something dark. Something dangerous. Something…furry.
As Heather uncovers the truth, she finds herself caught in a centuries-old conflict that puts her on center stage. Her dual destinies - one as Cole’s mate, and one as his sworn adversary, have made her enemies on all sides. And to make matters worse, she just can’t seem to keep her hands off of him. Can she find a way to tame his wolfish nature, and bring peace to the Douglas Mountain clan before it’s too late?
Lillian Danté loves to tell stories about wild, sexy creatures who go bump in the night…among other things. As Melanie Marchande, she writes USA Today bestselling contemporary romance.
This was an ok read. There was drama and lots of sex. But I felt like there wasn't to much more. I mean there was. There was The Well mystery and the ex-boyfriend coming back after 10 years. But Heather was wishy washy about her feeling for him. One minute saying no way and the next yelling for more. It felt like there was something missing. This just didn't work out for me.
It was ok for a quick read but not much substance. Old boyfriend comes back into heroine's life after breaking her heart in high school and she wastes her time and ours saying I won't get involved with him again. Jumps right into the sack. All kinds of things thrown into the plot with little to no explanation. Heather has her secrets and of course Cole is a shifter.
Spoilers>>>> Example of things thrown in..Arthur an important man who leads another group of shifters who live in a estate called Foxwoods is played as "up to something" Maybe a bad guy" but this led's no where. A mysterious fountain you never quite find out about. An alpha who still hasn't taken over his clan. A huge war with people getting killed all over the place but no police or anyone coming looking for missing humans??? Our human heroine riding a huge Bear?? into the fray ?? swinging her sword. Some things made no sense with things said in the book.
This is a short paranormal story about Heather and Cole who were high school sweethearts. Cole leaves and Heather is heartbroken and just never really gets over Cole leaving her. Ten years later Cole returns, Heather is surprised and things go from her being extremely mad and hurt by Cole to not being able to control her attraction and need to be with Cole! We learn why Cole left and once Heather finds out do their lives become more interwoven and connected do they find themselves on a journey of survival and one of pure love if they can fight and win against those out to cause harm. Jack left due to responsibility, Heather had a absent mother and father and once he returns he turns her life upside down. Heather and Jack have some really wonderful ways they deal with one another and are both afraid to make the commitment to say they love one another. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Have to be honest, it took me a while to get into the story. It seemed like there was a lot of history between the two main characters yet we hadn't experienced it and just had bits and pieces of it. I wanted to finish it even though at times I felt like I didn't want to read anymore. It did get better but it was about half way through.
Oh so dramatic, so many secrets, so much love. I really didn't want to put this down, I was so drawn to the characters and their plight. Excellent read I hope there's more cause there's lots of interesting characters.
I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Heather has only ever had eyes for one man. Cole Jackman was the boy she fell in love with as a teenager and even after 10 years she is still waiting for him. Even if she refuses to admit it to herself. When he ran away from their hometown ten years ago he took a part of her with him. Always there in the back of her mind as she lived her life day to day. It is a complete shock to her when he is suddenly there standing in front of her.
Not being able to keep her attraction to herself their relationship immediately begins again where they left off. Only, Jack is hiding part of himself from her. Its why he ran. Jack can't stay away any longer. Having run away so long ago from the responsibility that was being thrust on his shoulders he is confused. Even after all this time away he still wants Heather and no other.
When a centuries-old war is thrust on the entire town it is up to Heather to choose which side she will fight on. If her feeling for Jack are strong enough for her to take a stand and fight or if she should run.
I loved the back and forth between Heather and Jack. Even though they both cared so deeply about eachother they were both scared to admit the depth of their feelings. With every discovery that Heather makes she is more and more confused about what is the right thing to do. I liked that she had a strong will. That when she set her mind to it she finds a fire and depth of strength within her that she surprised not only herself but those around her.
It was a short, sweet romance with paranormal aspects that drew you in immediately from the start.
Cole was destined from birth to be the next Alpha but instead of stepping into his father's shoes he ran. Leaving behind the pack who needed him and the woman who loved him.
Heather tried to find love again after Cole left her without a word but nothing and no one felt right after Cole. Over time, she found a measure of peace while sitting in the stillness of the community's mysterious fountain, but even then her badly broken heart wouldn't fully heal.
Nine and a half years later Cole comes back to town. He wants to claim the heart of the one woman he was never able to forget, but the mistrust that grew from his earlier actions now stands between them. With the past full of haunting secrets and an unsettling future on the horizon, it's possible that the opportunity for a second chance at love has passed them by.
A well written and edited adventure; Becoming His Mate offers sexual heat, dramatic storyline development, and emotionally engaging characters that are easy to love!
A copy of Becoming His Mate was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I haven't had a chance to read the other Fountain of Love books, but if they're anything like this one I have to get to them right away! In this book, the fountain seems to be a refuge for Heather and a place of connection between Her and Cole. Although Cole has to deal with being a shifter, Heather had to deal with nothing but loss all her life, including Coke's abandonment. Almost 10 years later, Cole comes home and who's the first person he sees? You got it..Heather. Their love story was really beautiful, but the timeline didn't seem to match. When I thought only a few days had passed in the story, it was really a few weeks! Plus though we did eventually get an explanation of what happened 10 years ago , it happened much later in the book than I expected. Those are the nosy reasons I didn't give this book 5 stars, but I can give the actual romance (and sweet love scenes ) 5 stars :). I also want to know more about the Douglas Mountain Shifters now, maybe a story is brewing between Arthur and Adanna? That would be something to see!
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. In this story we meet Cole and Heather. Cole and Heather dated while in high school but as graduation come Cole left town. This story starts 10 years later when Cole has returned to town and Heather is not sure why. There are things happening in this town that Heather knows nothing about and Cole doesn't know how to start a conversation about them. Cole is a wolf and Heather is an em-path as well as a mind reader. She did not realize she had these abilities in the beginning she just though animals were very comfortable around her. Cole is sure there is something special about Heather and that is just part of the reason he is attracted to her. There is so much more to tell you but I don't want to ruin the surprises that will come in this story for you. I will say this is an amazing story about finding out who you are and what you are willing to sacrifice for love. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
Apparently Cole was expecting a joyous reunion, well dream on buddy, "well, I'm sorry to disappoint you. But it's nothing juicy. Just wanted to come home." He took another step, and then a few more. "I gotta believe there's some tiny part of you that's happy to see me, Heather." Cole he's a damn animal in the bedroom, "take it, baby," he panted in my ear, his thrusts growing faster, more erratic. "Take it. You're mine." Heather that girl is full of fire when she needs to be, "what are you saying then?" I demanded, sitting up straighter. "You came back here just to...eff me a few times, and then what? We can't be together, because you're scared." I loved Cole and I how he was all for his girl when he was with his girl, "baby," he said, coming close and cupping my face in his hands. "I don't know what's going one, but I believe you. Okay? I know it was real. I can feel it." I enjoyed reading Heather and Cole's story.
Heather Anderson grew up and lived in a small town. She fell in love and had her heart broken in a small town of Alki Valley. Cole Jackman grew up and left behind someone he loved when he left town almost 10 years ago. Now he is back after searching for something but finding nothing.
This is a different kind of a shifter romance. It is filled with love, hatred, romance, betrayal and a small community of shifters coming together to save it from war with worriers. The story line and the characters were great and there was such a smooth flow from start to finish that it was a pleasure to read this book.
I could not find anything bad either with the story line or with the characters. This is a great read for any paranormal shifter romance lover out there. Some of the scenes are for mature readers because of the sexual content.
What a great story. I like shifter stories because they bring a good sense of fantasy to what you are reading and for this book the author did an amazing job.
You jump right into the story feeling like what Dante is telling you is already unfolding but you've jumped in at the right moment to learn all you need to to get the story going.
Right from the start you get a sense that something isn't normal about the people of Douglas Mountain but you aren't quite sure what it is until Cole gets to town and everything starts falling into place.
While some aspects of the story were predictable others not so much. Of course, the predictability of the love story was only because of their presence within the story. Why else would Dante bring them together if she didn't want them together and yet the circumstances, the twists and turns... all enjoyable and great.
There were plots introduced throughout the entire book that never eventuated and characters that lacked any real depth. I had a hard time getting my mind around the concept of "it just feels right" and the innate abilities the MC is able to use. Not to mention her readiness to accept even the most ludicrous of situations.
The reason for the 2 star is based purely on the fact that I was able to last right up until the 70% mark before I started ranting. Ok so I did point out at the 30% line that I was confused but I carried on because I thought everything would be explained. As it turns out if I want to learn more about Douglas Mountain Shifters I may need to wait for the second installment.
However for me, this is as far as I'm willing to go with series.
Most original and entertaining I adored this story as well as the story line. Well written and extremely enjoyable to read. Such originality in the workings of the shifters and how things came to be with the added bonus of the fountain. The interplay between characters was extremely well done. Not sure if this is the beginning of a series but it could be yet it is a self contained book. Could not put done once I started to read. Kept my interest all throughout the book. Timeless love, hot sex, and all around entertaining. Loved how in the end the entire community came together for the good of all. Will be looking for more books by this author. I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of an honest review and was not compensated.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I loved meeting Heather and Cole each ran away from their feelings in different ways after high school. Then they meet up again when Cole comes back to town after several years away.
My title for this review fits very well as Cole and Heather discover more about themselves and the town they are from. Do they cope well with their discoveries? You be your own judge as I hate revealing anything that may ruin the story for anyone who hasn't read it yet.
I look forward to discovering more about the town and the fountain in the next episode of the Douglas Mountain Shifters.
I received this book for a fair and honest review free from the author.
I don't usually go into telling you what the story is about, I guess I figure that you can read that in the information. I generally tell you my thoughts on the book. I can tell you that I really liked this book. I had not read anything from this author before and I really like how she writes. The character development was good. The descriptions were great. I could actually see myself in the woods, or splayed over the table, and the sex was steamy. Put them all together and it's a hit for me. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read by Lillian Dante and it most certainly will not be my last! This was a fast moving, deeply passionate and emotional paranormal romance with a special fountain linking opposing clans in a common goal to protect their way of life! An epic battle between human and paranormal forces as well as an epic romance about second chances and soul mates makes this a wonderful romance to get lost in!! I loved it! Only negative is a little too much profanity for my taste but not too much to distract me from the story!!
What an awesome read! Ms. Dante's part in the fountain series is such an action pack read. It is the story of two lovers that come together again after 9 and half years and the sparks fly off the pages. Cole and Heather are star-crossed lovers whom just can't stay away form each other even after such a long time apart. There are secrets in the area where Heather lives and she is only just learning how she can impact the towns. I won't give away any spoilers you just have to read this story.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
I felt like I could have loved it had there been more to the story. Great premise, some interesting character set-up...
But I just don't feel like the story was developed to its full potential.
I would be interested in reading more about these clans & the town if this was ever developed into a full series, but from what I understand this is just a short story in a series put together by multiple authors, and I don't think as much effort was put into this as needed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced shifter story. It does not follow the regular "formula" storyline of most fated mates stories. I also love the fact that this a complete HEA story...no cliffhanger here!
Cole’s hiding a great big whopper of a secret. Something dark. Something dangerous. Something…furry. I can't keep away from paranormal stories I always love me some wild, sexy creatures who go bump in the night. Who can resist them? This story had me putting the kindle to my face and leaving it there until the very end
A perfect love story. I have a soft spot for love stories with babies in them and this one was just like that. Also shifters make every story better at least in my opinion and also in this story the characters were very interesting. I didn't stop reading before the end because the story kept me in its claws. I loved it. And I will try to read more from this author.
So so book; characters weren't engaging, sex was mediocre but the story could have been could. Any explanations given were so garbled as to be useless and the end fight was unbelievable. The premise of the story reminded me of "the war for the lot" not anywhere near as well written though. I won't be looking for more of this series. It wasn't awful, it just felt like a waste of time
i thought this book was very well written, i never really write reviews so ill make this very short
Heather and cole <3 *swoon* they were perfect together :) lots of factors kept them apart and alot stands in their way but i like the fact that they make it. the sex scenes ...they were well written also so overall this book was a fun read :) i read it in on sitting i couldnt put it down
This is a short story. If you don't like those then don't read it.
Heather had only wanted one man, cole. But he left right after graduation and has not been back until now. Why is he back? Can they make a relationship work, after she finds out his secret? Also, heathers father makes a reappearance and has some secrets that could destroy their relationship.
This is an incredible story. It grabs your attention right from the start and is hot and steamy. The story is so well written that you feel like you're right there with them the whole time. I can't wait to read more by this author.
I saw a lot of good reviews for this one but unfortunately for me it was simply ok. The story is a little bit confusing at times, but I have to admit the sex scenes were intense and sexy, that's the reason for the .5 on my rating.
Have loved every book in this series that I have read. The suspense makes you sit on the edge of your chair while you can't stop reading until you know what will happen next.
