Alexander Ranch #2

Into Thin Air

They looked as if they weren’t sure what to do with me until they looked down at their fallen comrade I was standing over. Then, it was on. I’d never fought more than one person at a time before, well, at least not outside of black belt training. But, that was just sparring. Still, I prepared myself just as I would in class. They attacked simultaneously from different sides. I side stepped while delivering a strike to one guys gut. The other did manage to catch me in the chest and, though my momentum didn’t allow him to get a good grip, it sent me sprawling.

“Into Thin Air” continues the adventure introduced in “Alexander Ranch.” In this story, set six weeks after the events of the first book, narrator Lela joins forces with members of the Alexander family to thwart a kidnapping plot undertaken by their dark and equally-powerfully adversaries.

While I enjoyed “Alexander Ranch”—a lot, in fact—I liked “Into Thin Air” even more. The novel has a nice sense of pacing, interspersing action scenes (the primary focus of the book) with the Lela’s growing feelings for Jacob, her rescuer from the first book and would-be boyfriend. Every theme introduced in the first book is developed in a pleasing way: Lela’s employment of her own, unique talents; the battle between her growing feelings for Jacob and her fear of losing control; the impact of these developments on her relationship with her brother (with whom she lives); and her relationship with the other members of the Alexander family. The conclusion satisfies the reader on all these points. Lela isn’t perfect but has a good head on her shoulders, and one can’t help but root for her as she battles physical dangers and personal/emotional demons from her past.

Once again, I started the last three-quarters of this book fairly late at night and ended up reading until the wee hours of the morning. I think one indication of a good, page-turning book is when one attempts to advance to the next page, only to discover that the book has concluded. This was certainly the case for me.

If you enjoyed “Alexander Ranch” and would like to discover what’s next in the lives of its protagonists, “Into Thin Air” delivers a fun, action-packed sequel.

I had been looking forward to the sequel of Alexander Ranch, and it didn’t disappoint. In fact, I believe Ms Josephs has outdone herself with “Into Thin Air”.

I found both novels very easy to read and when I had to leave them, found it extremely easy to pick up the story again.

This second novel in the Alexander Ranch series gets straight into the action, with the first kiss between Lela and Shane, a guy she has been admiring. A returning character Jordan, reappears in her life as Shane is kissing her, setting the scene for plenty of friction, which made me want to keep reading.

The background from the first novel Alexander Ranch is revealed early on, so it doesn’t leave you guessing – you can just get on with the story without trying to figure out what’s going on.

There is a lot of suspense with the Alexanders turning to Lela to assist them with a case. Without giving too much away, there are good reasons for Lela to not get involved, but her sense of wanting to do what’s right, has her agreeing.

This case once again puts her in close quarters with Jordan, making it hard for her to decide how she feels about him, especially when Shane is still in the picture.

Strap yourself in for this one, with the twists and turns of the case at times overshadowing Lela’s relationship with Jordan, Shane and the rest of the Alexander clan.

I bought Into Thin Air immediately after finishing the first book. And when I went on amazon to look for the third book and found out it wasn't out yet, I was pretty bummed. I love how real the characters are. The secondary characters are what makes this series, they are all great and add a lot of dynamic. They aren't just "there" for fun.

This whole book is well-written. There's really nothing more annoying than seeing error after error and poor writing. This book didn't have that at all.

I wish the "fight" scene near the end was longer. I really like that kind of suspenseful action and if Marla could have drawn that out more I would have been so pleased!

Overall, great and quick book that I didn't want to put down. Looking forward to the next one when it comes out.

•••I listened to the Audible Audio Edition of this book•••

Jamie Lamchick's performance in this series keeps getting better! As the characters' relationships become more complex and their bonds deepen you can hear their feelings in her portrayals. I really adored her first performance in this series and she keeps getting better! Definitely going to keep listening to this series!

Finally Fitting In

This series must be listened to (or read) in order. The first book is Alexander Ranch. This is the second book. I can't wait to listen to Deep In The Night!

Feeling safe thinking Kevin (the Drainer that tried to kill her multiple times) is dead Lela still is working to become better at self defence by sparring with Sean who was reccomended to her by the Alexanders. She is getting pretty good and is proud of her progress. Having friends is also helping her to feel more normal. Too bad when Sean kissess her Jordan picks that time to finally reappear! Finding out they need her help on a real case AND that Kevin is alive and well (if incarcerated) further threatens her calm. Should she help on the case? What impact will that have on the secrecy of her powers? Should she give Jordan and her a real shot? Is she ready for a relations?

Jordan wants to keep Lela safe... And yet, he wants her to share every aspect of his life. It is a conundrum of epic proportions. He knows she is it for him but how can he convince her that she needs him? That they would be good together? How can he let her use her powers to help them and yet keep her safe? Can they make it work? Can she fit into the supernatural world and survive?

Filled with growing bonds of friendship and love this book is uplifting while still filled with the edge of your seat tension of any good mystery suspense thriller! It sucks you in and keeps you enthralled while leaving you wanting more :)

***This series is suitable for adult readers who enjoy paranormal mystery action adventures with lots of intrigue and a bit of reluctant romance :)

Lela Charles is spending time with the Alexander clan out at the ranch, trying to get a handle on her special abilities and her growing attraction to Jordan Alexander. When the Alexander’s ask Lela for help she agrees, even though she’s still wary of this strange but loving family. But when Jordan asks her to give their budding romance a try, Lela shoots him down, despite the way he, and no one else makes her feel.

This, the second book in the Alexander Ranch series, has much more of a romantic element to it, but don’t worry, there’s still plenty of action and suspense as well, I have to admit, I was a little frustrated by the way Lela kept thwarting Jordan and then something would happen in the story that would make me think Jordan has every reason to be cautious, and perhaps she’s much wiser than me.

The paranormal storyline is a major focus in this book and I look forward to seeing where book three goes from here!

Jaime Lamchick continues to narrate the series and she does an even better job in this second book, which clocks in at just under six hours. Jaime has fully voiced all the characters in this audiobook and her subtle nuances in tone make it easy to follow which characters speak. The audio production quality is flawless.

This audiobook was gifted to me exchange for an unbiased review!

Reading books 1 and 2 in this series pretty much back to back, I was pleased by how book 2 picks up right where book 1 left off. There wasn't a lot of over-explaining what happened in book 1 but just enough to refresh my memory of who was who and what the big plot points were.

I liked this book more than book 1 simply because you already know these characters and can dive even deeper into who they are. Lela, Jordan, Daisy, etc. are further fleshed out and feel like real, relatable, likeable people. They aren't perfect, which gives some room for growth and interpersonal tensions, and again how they work together is the strong point of the story. Really, the "bigger" plot conflicts going on take a backseat to the love story aspects, but it works. I would've liked to see more with the kidnappers and the final fight scene, as it all just seemed to wrap up really nicely and any real danger was over very, very quickly.

Some writing goofs and hiccups are scattered throughout (sometimes the wrong name is used when a character is talking, for example), but the errors were never enough to distract me or make me stop. I'm certainly looking forward to the next one to see where things go next!

Mr. Beck disappeared Into Thin Air and the Alexander Consulting and Security was brought in to solve the case. The Alexander's are part of a group that is made up of healers and drainers with superhuman powers. Lela is a human with a gift to read minds and is able to think thoughts to others and she is asked to help with the case.

Lela had been kidnapped by a group of drainers and two attempts had been made on her life before the man responsible for the crimes against her was captured. This set the scene for a suspenseful story with a romance woven in as the Alexander group searches for Mr. Beck.

My thanks to Marla Josephs, author and Goodreads First Read Giveaway for my copy of Into Thin Air that I won.

Amazing sequel to the first book!! Into Thin Air picks up a couple of months after the first book ended. The Alexanders have been hired on a new case and want Lela to help. There are surprises and definitely some suspense and action. I was on the edge of my seat and literally could not put the book down. I wanted to know what was going to happen with the case, with Jordan and Lela, and everything. These characters and story is addicting and I am already having withdrawals.

I cannot tell you how much I loved this book. I am not a real fan of paranormal, but this book integrated so many of the traits that I love...suspense, intrigue, romance, angst...a little bit of everything to create an interwoven story of family, friends and lovers. This book begins 6 weeks after the first, with Lela and Shane sparring together. And by sparring, did I mean foreplay? What a scorching scene to be interrupted by Jordan. Now this is my first book of the series, and I can tell that Jordan and Lela have some history. The air between the two is electric in every scene right from the very beginning. Lela and Jordan are off to work on a case that the Alexander family is working on. This "super human" family has been tracking a group of criminals and need Lela's special talent of being able to enter the mind of others. I love this kind of thing, though I definitely would not like that talent myself! The twists and turns of this book keep you on your toes the entire time, the push and pull between Jordan and Lela have you routing for their happily ever after and do they ever solve their case? Listen to this book and you will find the answers, you will not be disappointed.

Jaime Lamchick is the narrator of this series, and she is doing and incredible job. I have heard other books by her and she always brings her best to the story. The performance brings you right into the lives of the characters and you are set right in the middle of the chaos and craziness, the love and the passion.

4.5 thrilling Stars!
This second book in the Alexander Ranch series continues to be intriguing and captivating! This story picks up 6 weeks after the first book. Lela is becoming stronger with the help of self defense sessions with Sean. Jordan and Lela developed feelings for each other in the first book. But Lela wants to be independant and not consumed by a relationship. This frustrates Jordan and causes additional problems when he feels threatened by Seans interest in her as well. The tension between the 3 of them is an under current throughout this story but it's the mystery that is especially gripping. Lela is also developing her special skills as she helps the Alexander's solve a missing persons case. Ms Josephs has a gift at developing the investigation, making us feel like we are part of the process, as they sift through clues, conduct interviews and put themselves in harrowing situations to catch the bad guy. This is a thrilling, intriguing, and addicting story with twists and turns that keep you guessing to the very end.
I really enjoyed Jaime Lamchick's narration. Her voice changes for each character are distinct, and her inflections are spot on making this story even more breathtaking as she draws you into each scene.
I can't wait to listen to more from this fun and exciting group of super sleuths!

AUDIOBOOK edition

After listening to book 1, I had to get this book too. I had to find out what else is happening at the ranch. Well... Lela and Jordan are still dancing around each other which is entertaining and frustrating at the same time, while they are working on another case alongside the team. The team recognized what a great assets she is as she is discovering more about her powers and she plays a big part in solving the current case. The secondary characters are a great addition to the story, Daisy, the annoying little sister... Shane, the almost lover... and there is a revelation about Logan and Grace's daughter that was unexpected... Ethan is my fave though, he is a lot of fun.
Ms. Josephs likes to keep the readers on their toes, that's for sure.
Ms. Lamchick delivered another great narration, enjoyed listening to her voice.

Into Thin Air

An Alexander Ranch Matter

By: Marla Josephs
Narrated by: Jaime Lamchick

Series: Alexander Ranch, Book 2

Marla Josephs is a master at creative writing. Her storylines are imaginative yet very realistic and relatable. The paranormal twist adds depth to the story and the characters. It is nice to learn more of each character, including their abilities. Would love to see this made in to a TV series, a drama, with a little bit of romance, steamy moments, crime solving, action and mystery. Sounds like a hit to me, the book sure is! Thank you Marla Josephs for another great read!!

I listened to the Audible edition, Jaime Lemchick delivered another wonderful performance. She covered all the characters, brought each to life and switched vocals back and forth effortlessly. Thank you for another great listen!

** This is a review of the book and audiobook ** This is the second book of the captivating Alexander Ranch Series. I really like this Series. The narration is very good. This is a suspense paranormal. The story of Jordan and Lela is so sweet. I love them! In fact, I love all the Alexanders. The author's writing is very good. The pace of this story is also good. The time passed so fast listening to this book! This is the kind of book you want to end fast so you know what happened, and at the same time you want to slow down the listening to not have to leave the characters. Can't wait to listen to book 3.

Lela is a human Telepath...Jordan is a Drainer...usually Drainers & Healers stay away from humans but the chemistry between these two is smoking! Yea, there’s a story in here, some guy was kidnapped and Lela is consulting with Alexander Agency to find him. Lela gets to really explore her gift and embrace it. While I am totally team Jordan, sometimes I want to smack Lela when she gets spastic...lol. The team was able to save the guy and now I HAVE to get the next book to see if Lela and Jordan get an HEA or HFN (happy for now.

It has been awhile since I read book one of this series, I had to go back to get a little feel of it. However I didn’t need to do that since the author did touch on it a little to bring it all back to me. With this read we learn more about each character and their powers. Lela homes in on hers as she is dealing with her feelings for Jordan. Marla writes wonderful stories of the supernatural with mystery and action. Her characters are very likeable and almost believable if you were to believe in the supernatural.

Jordan gets jealous when Shane kisses Lela and works towards making her his. Will these two ever get it worked out to where they can find a HEA? I just love Jordan he is a very sweet powerful man that doesn’t throw his weight around but is gentle. He is a drainer and could so easy hurt those around him. Really his whole families are the sweetest as they fight to keep those around them safe.

Lela finds out Kevin is a live and has to deal with this. In the last book he tried to killer her, she uses her power to turn the tables on him and work out what he knows. She is just a wonderful sweet character trying to find her way and help her friends as she tries to keep Jordan at a distances. Friends? I just do not see how these two could ever be just friends but we will see.

The ending is with a peaceful scene with a wonderful ending. I am looking forward to book 3 to find out what these two couple has in store for us. The author gives you a nice read which flows easy and keeps you interested in the story. The supernatural is a world all its own where anything can happen and usually does. It is nice to see the good over run the bad as the author gives you a wonderful story of mystery, love and danger

Good story. Picked up right where book #1 left off. I liked getting to understand and know more about the Alexanders in this book. I really like the story and characters. They seem to be people I would enjoy getting to know in real life. I think the whole family is very protective of Lela and that makes for a comfortable feeling, even when there is danger in the story. I liked the suspense and action. No longer was there a threat to Lela's safety, she was actually involved in the investigation and taken in as part of the family. I am interested in continuing this series as I want to know what happens in the relationships between many of the characters (especially Lela and ... Jordan?!).

A Hot Mystery Filled Romance with Some PNR. I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. This continuation book in the Alexander Ranch series is even hotter and more intriguing than the first in the series. The characters and situations bring you even deeper into their paranormal (PNR) world and leaves you wanting more. If you like mysteries and paranormal characters that are different than what you may be used to, you will love these not so typical PNR characters and their world that revolves around a ranch in California and their non-human elements security firm. The author did an excellent job of bringing the characters and their world to like. I look forward the listening to the next book in the series.

Thanks to Marla Josephs and Goodreads First Reads Giveaway for the copy of Into Thin Air that my daughter won and shared with me.

Into Thin Air is exciting with the Alexander Group hired to find a kidnapped victim, Mr. Beck. The characters belong to one of three groups the regular humans, healers and drainers. I liked the mystery aspect of the book mixed with the extra powers of the characters and the love story mixed into the adventure.

I love how the author makes you feel like you are right there in the story with the characters. She holds your attention from beginning to end and makes you wish the story would go on forever. One thing I didn't like was how much the main character whines so much and runs hot and cold all the time. However, it works well within the storyline. We learn a little more about the characters in this book, which makes it more interesting. Looking forward to reading book 3!

I read this book immediately after the first one since it was out. As I said, it reads more like a serial to me and this was a continuation of the first story. I'd like to know more about the parallel paranormal existence in the author's world. Obviously, there must be more as Lela, herself, is more. I am very curious about Lela's brother and look forward to more stories in this world.

A pretty good sequel

I found that the second book in the series was a lot more informative and graphic than the first. There are still some unanswered questions, but I'm hoping the third book will answer them.

The 2nd book in the Alexander Ranch series is as good as the first one. I love the story line and the characters, mixing the romance with a good mystery. Marla Joseph is a great writer and Jamie Lamchick's narration adds depth to the story. I will be looking for more by both author and narrator.
