Jean Adamson was a British writer and illustrator of children's books. She was best known for the Topsy and Tim books, the first of which was published in 1960 and which have sold 27 million copies. Adamson's creations were also featured widely on television in 84 episodes of Topsy and Tim.
This was the 1st Book to be Adapted for the Short-Lived Cartoon Series in the 80s/90s in the UK. As in all Topsy and Tim stories it is a good simple story which children can relate to - especially when they think their buckets have been forgotten. Pictures are good too. None of this modern high energy abstract stuff.
Originally titled Topsy and Tim go to the Seaside. They wake up early, meet a real fisherman, do traditional sand digging (albeit a boat not a castle) and then get invited out by a fisherman in his boat. They catch fish which they eat for dinner. Nice book - in the original version, no life jackets or other safety gear so we added that!! Reassuring that Daddy goes on the trip too. A nice sounding holiday with friendly people at an apparently quite deserted beach. Ideal! I want to go!
I loved Topsy and Tim books when I was little and I have managed to source some for my little boy. We love reading them together and he has now started reading them to me!
